This was the last show to feature the original line up of the founding cast members Laraine Newman, John Belushi, Jane Curtin, Gilda Radner, Dan Aykroyd, Garrett Morris, and Chevy Chase.
There had been tension between Chevy Chase and the rest of the cast since the first season. John Belushi had a rivalry with Chase dating back to their times at "The National Lampoon Radio Hour". Reportedly, Belushi told Bill Murray that Chase had treated the cast badly during his time on the show. Chase and Murray got into a shouting match which turned into a fistfight. The fight was broken up moments before the show went on the air. Murray said in the book "Live From New York" that he felt he "was goaded into that...because I was the new guy, and it was sort of like it was my job to do that."
During Weekend Update, John Belushi mentions Bill Murray's brother, Brian Doyle-Murray, who would join the cast as a featured player in the fifth season.
This was Chevy Chase's first time back to the show since he left, and did his trademark pratfall in the cold opening of the show.
