Somewhat uneven episode in this early entry of the 'Stories of the Century' series. Though the main subject is Apache Indian Chief Geronimo, there's more screen time given to another Apache named Neche (Pat Hogan), son of Cochise, a war chief of the Apaches. Neche is taken prisoner following an Apache raid and must accompany Railroad Detective Matt Clark (Jim Davis) on a wagon train from Santa Fe. Matt and his assistant Frankie Adams (Mary Castle) are on an assignment to stop Geronimo's raids on military supply depots.
During the trek Geronimo's band attacks the wagon train and during the fight Frankie takes an arrow to her right arm and it's actually shown going clear through with the arrow tip protruding from one side. I don't have to tell you, that would have hurt like hell but there's only a minimal reaction from Frankie. Cutting off the tip and removing the arrow from her arm as Matt did here would probably cause someone to pass out, so the scene didn't seem very realistic at all. But then this was early TV so I guess script writers didn't consider those things very much.
The episode closes with Geronimo's eventual surrender ending a ten year Apache War against the Army and encroaching settlers in the Southeast. He was sent to a reservation in Florida and died in 1909 of pneumonia. An interesting aspect of this episode apart from the main character was the hint of a romance between Matt Clark and Frankie Adams. The scene wasn't overdone, but you got the idea.
