The Sopranos was easily one of the most groundbreaking television shows, with James Gandolfini’s performance as Tony Soprano setting the standard for what a great cinematic anti-hero should look like. Without the incredible work that Gandolfini did, it seems unlikely that television would see the emergence of morally dubious protagonists like Jon Hamm’s Don Draper in Mad Men or Bryan Cranston’s Walter White in Breaking Bad. While the success of The Sopranos is certainly intertwined with Gandfolfini’s legacy, he was certainly not the only great actor on the show; The Sopranos featured one of the most stacked ensembles on television and often evolved due to the volatile nature of the narrative. Although many fan-favorite characters were met with grizzly fates, no deaths on The Sopranos were as heartbreaking as Drea de Matteo’s Adriana La Cerva.

These days, Timothée Chalamet is an actor who needs no introduction. His latest film, the sci-fi epic Dune: Part Two, continues to dominate at the box office, while his musical adventure, Wonka, was a big winner over the holiday season. Next, he's set to transform himself into Bob Dylan for the legendary musician's biopic. Chalamet's starring role in 2017's Call Me by Your Name might've put him on everyone's radar, but before the actor's turn in the Oscar-winning romance, he led the way alongside Mad Men's Kiernan Shipka in the supernaturally-infused indie, One & Two.

In his feature directorial debut, actor and comedian Jerry Seinfeld also stars in an upcoming comedy movie titled Unfrosted: The Pop Tart Story, based on a screenplay he co-wrote with a team of writers. His team of writers included Spike Feresten, Barry Marder, and Andy Robin. The movie stars Melissa McCarthy, Jim Gaffigan, Amy Schumer, James Marsden, Hugh Grant, Dan Levy, and more, in addition to Seinfeld leading the cast.
The movie, which is scheduled to make its debut on Netflix in May, is loosely based on the true story of the creation of Pop-Tarts toaster pastries. The actor-comedian reportedly deconstructed his Pop Tart stand-up bit from his last Netflix special, 23 Hours to Kill, and explored it into a giant comedy movie. The comedy realm is dealt another big blow as the world says goodbye to Joe Flaherty. According to Exclaim, the Sctv legend had been dealing with a sickness and was said to be “very ill.” In late February, Flaherty’s Second City brother, Martin Short, sent a message to their Sctv peers to fundraise for his home care in his last days, which amounted to $20K a month. Short had said that they had been made aware of the gravity of his condition and Flaherty chose to spend the rest of his life at home with his daughter rather than at a facility. The message would hit social media.

Mad Men might have wrapped up in 2015, but it’s still considered one of the greatest shows because it has survived the test of time so well! Right from its debut in 2007, it was a hit among critics and audiences alike. Since then, it’s gone on to win 79 awards, including 16 Primetime Emmys and 5 Golden Globes! While other shows at the time focused more on reworking existing TV genres — the cop drama (The Wire), the mob movie (The Sopranos) — Mad Men kind of created its own subgenre: a period antihero/workplace drama about the cultural history

The 10 Things I Hate About You cast probably didn’t know it then, but the actors in the 1999 teen rom-com would get their breakout role. In the 25 years since its release, 10 Things I Hate About You has become a cult classic and a career highlight for its actors.
On the surface, 10 Things I Hate About You doesn’t sound like a recipe for success. A William Shakespeare play reworked into a teen comedy featuring a cast of mostly unknown actors? Critics didn’t fall head over heels for it in 1999, but the movie’s appeal has grown over time and attracted new generations of fans (even if sequel plans failed). And if the 10 Things I Hate About You cast was unknown then, now there is no mistaking the talent of stars like Julia Stiles, Heath Ledger, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Kerry Washington and Elisabeth Moss will star in a limited series adaptation of the Araminta Hall novel “Imperfect Women” at Apple TV+, Variety has learned.
Annie Weisman will adapt the book for the screen. Weisman previously created the Apple dramedy series “Physical” starring Rose Byrne, which aired for three seasons at the streamer.
“Imperfect Women” is described as an “unconventional, psychological thriller examining a crime that shatters the lives of a decades-long friendship of three women. ‘Imperfect Women’ is a mystery complicated by perspective that explores guilt and retribution, love and betrayal, and the compromises we make that alter our lives irrevocably. As the investigation unravels, so does the truth about how even the closest relationships can change over time.”

You know The Prince even if you’ve never been to Los Angeles.
The beloved Koreatown bar has been a filming location staple of film and TV since at least Roman Polanski’s “Chinatown,” where Evelyn Mulwray and Jake Gittes sit together at a red leather banquette. Or maybe you recognize it from “Mad Men.” Most people likely know The Prince as The Griffin, the bar that features so heavily in “New Girl” as Nick’s place of employment.
Most recently, The Prince stood in as a dive bar in the first episode of Apple TV+’s new series “Palm Royale,” where Maxine (Kristen Wiig) and Dinah (Leslie Bibb) go for a private chat, far away from their neighbors’ prying eyes.

Switching up a show's format can produce memorable TV moments like musical episodes and unique plot structures. Some experimental TV episodes, like Atlanta's anthology episodes, can deviate from the norm yet maintain quality. Extreme changes in a show, such as Sherlock's Victorian special or the fan art episode of Bob's Burgers, may polarize fans.
Long-running TV shows often get experimental by changing their usual formula, but this can result in some episodes which feel like they don't even belong in the show. These episodes stick out from the rest of the show's run. Sometimes the characters are placed in completely different situations that aren't what the audience is used to. In some extreme cases, the main characters of the show barely show up at all. Experimenting with different episodes is a good way of keeping a show from becoming stale, but it can have some bizarre results.

Exclusive: After only one year in the role, Christina Wayne is out as Managing Director of Mena network Mbc Studios, we can reveal.
We hear Wayne and Mbc are negotiating the exit and she may segue to a deal of some kind with the network. Mbc and Wayne declined to comment and the succession plan isn’t immediately clear though we hear that a successor may already be in play.
Mbc Studios is the production arm of the Middle East and North Africa-focused Mbc Group, the Gulf’s biggest network, and former Amazon and AMC exec Wayne had been tasked with continuing the group’s push into premium non-English-language TV programs and sprinkling in some English-language content. Mbc operates 17 free-to-air satellite channels and streaming service Shahid.
A key priority for Mbc in the past couple of years has been moving much of the studio’s regionally based staff, operations and content output to Saudi Arabia.

Striking a tonal balance between drama and comedy can be difficult. It’s even harder when the series must adhere to a specific place and time. Yet Palm Royale, which debuts on March 20th on Apple TV+, makes a strong play for the Mad Men demographic. Equal parts stylish, melodramatic, and witty, there’s a lot to like about Palm Royale. However, even with one of the greatest casts ever assembled for a television show on paper, one cannot help but feel disappointed. There are fun performances, but its premise and story feel antiquated in 2024.
Palm Royale Plot
Based on the novel Mr. & Mrs. American Pie by Juliet McDaniel, Palm Royale follows Maxine Simmons-Dellacort (Kristen Wiig) as she walks in two worlds. She reaches for high status at the Palm Royal Club, where the socialites of Palm Beach lounge. Among her idols are Dinah Donahue (Leslie Bibb), Evelyn Rollins (Allison Janney...

Anna Camp and Griffin Matthews have been cast in “You” Season 5 at Netflix as series regulars, Variety has learned exclusively.
The pair are the latest additions to the cast of the popular show’s fifth season, which will also be its final season. It was previously announced that Madeline Brewer would also appear in a series regular role.
Camp will play both Raegan and Maddie Lockwood, twin sisters-in-law to Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley). The characters are described as follows: “Raegan is the cunning, cutthroat CFO of the Lockwood Corp who has her eyes on the throne and will crush any adversary…be them family or not. Maddie, on the other hand, presents as the unserious twin, a thrice-divorced socialite whose job is ‘vaguely PR.’ But make no mistake, a master manipulator lies underneath Maddie’s frivolous façade.”
Matthews will play Teddy Lockwood, described as the “snarky yet loyal brother-in-law of Joe Goldberg.

Jon Hamm is an incredibly talented actor known best for his titular role as Don Draper in Mad Men. And the ever-buzzing and bustling universe of Marvel would greatly benefit from having an actor as suave as him. Since the Marvel Cinematic Universe is ever evolving, bringing newer characters on the big screen with each passing year, there seem to be many roles the actor would be perfect for.

Hamm however, seems to have had his heart set on one Marvel villain in particular, the evil Doctor Doom. And in a recent interview, the Top Gun star made it known that he is a big fan of the superhero franchise and has high hopes to enter that realm as well.

In a world where superhero franchises like Marvel or DC seem to dominate the box office, the adult animated superhero tale of Invincible has quietly emerged as an excellent alternate. Despite not being as big as its contenders, the comic books as well as the animated series with characters like Omni-Man and Invincible have received an incredible reception and praise for rebranding superheroes as someone normal can actually relate with.

Jon Hamm says the new Taylor Sheridan drama Landman is “halfway through” filming. News of the Sheridan-created project, which features Hamm alongside Demi Moore and Billy Bob Thornton, first made headlines last month.
“We’re already halfway through it,” Hamm told People this week. “It’s Taylor Sheridan and obviously it’s very well written. It’s very well-researched.”
Landman is Sheridan’s latest project at Paramount+, which includes his flagship Yellowstone (currently filming its final season), spinoffs 1923 and 1883 and, separately, Special Ops: Lioness, Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King and Lawmen: Bass Reeves.
The new drama is adapted from the 11-part podcast Boomtown and is “an upstairs/downstairs story of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires fueling an [oil boom] so big, it’s reshaping our climate, our economy and our geopolitics,” a description reads. Not every successful TV show needs a spinoff – sometimes it's best to let a great show stand alone. Mad Men, The Wire, and Lost all resisted the urge for spinoffs, allowing their original stories to shine. The Americans and The Leftovers also chose to end without spinoffs, keeping their complete narratives intact.
Whenever a hit television show came to an end it was never long before a spinoff or follow-up was announced, but in some rare cases, there have been instances where great shows have been allowed to remain just that without any subsequent media. For every successful spinoff, like Frasier or Better Call Saul, there were always ten more disappointments, like Joey or After Mash, that viewers would rather just forget. That’s why it was always such a refreshing change of pace when series creators just let their show exist without the need to turn it into a sprawling extended universe.

Jerry Seinfeld’s Pop-Tart Movie Unfrosted Is Inspired By There Will Be Blood And Mad Men – Exclusive
