Supernatural horror genre audiences can add Julius Avery‘s The Pope’s Exorcist to their 2023 list of films to see. It’s a darker religious film than Ron Howard‘s Tom Hanks-led The Da Vinci Code (2006) and Angels & Demons (2009). The Pope’s Exorcist was based on and adapted from the famous Exorcist of Rome, Father Gabriele Amorth‘s books, An Exorcist Tells His Story (1990) and An Exorcist: More Stories (1992). Most of the film’s 103 minutes is set in 1987, in Castile, Spain. Although it is a supernatural horror, its storyline and conversations add a bit of humor to the film.

Rome-based sales agency True Colours has added Edoardo de Angelis’ “Comandante,” which opens the Venice Film Festival, to its slate. The film, which plays in the main competition section, stars Pierfrancesco Favino.
“Comandante” is based on the true story of Italian submarine commander Salvatore Todaro and the events that occurred in October 1940, when Todaro was in command of the Italian Royal Navy submarine Cappellini.
One night, while navigating in the Atlantic, the Italian vessel sinks an armed Belgian merchant ship, and Todaro decides to take the 26 shipwrecked crew members on board his already crowded submarine, aiming for the nearest safe harbor to release them. It is an unexpected action in the context of war, but follows the law of the sea, and endangers his life as well as that of his men, since the submarine has to navigate on the surface of the water for three days, visible to the enemy forces.

Tom Hanks has engaged in a few love scenes in his long and historic career. But some of his love scenes were cut in one of his biggest films, which somewhat disappointed the star.
How Tom Hanks responded to his love scenes being cut Tom Hanks | Taylor Hill/FilmMagic
Some of Hanks’ biggest movies were the Da Vinci Code films. Hanks played the lead in the series’ three movies, including the second film in the trilogy Angels & Demons. But some noticed that the movie was missing a few love scenes that were supposed to be included. In a 2009 interview with Parade, Hanks explained why his love scenes with co-star Ayelet Zurer couldn’t make the film.
“We really don’t have time to make out or go to bed when Cardinals are being killed on the hour. We tried to work it into the screenplay over and over again,...

Ewan McGregor not only received a lifetime achievement award, but also much love and adoration during a brief, but emotional ceremony at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival on Saturday night.
During the event at the big cinema celebration in the Czech spa town, organizers and fans feted the Scottish actor, director and producer as the President’s Award for lifetime achievement was bestowed upon him. On Friday’s opening night of the fest, Alicia Vikander received the same award, while Russell Crowe was honored with the festival’s Crystal Globe.
A warm welcome to McGregor by a host was followed by a particularly well-received career highlights reel that repeatedly drew laughs and cheers for scenes from the likes of the Star Wars universe, I Love You Phillip Morris and, of course, Trainspotting.

Tom Hanks offered nothing but wisdom and the truth while delivering a keynote address to Harvard University’s graduating class of 2023 on Thursday.
The actor, who famously starred as a Harvard professor named Robert Langdon in 2006’s “The Da Vinci Code” and its two sequels — “Angels & Demons” (2009) and “Inferno” (2016) — kicked things off by poking fun at his lack of credentials in comparison to the graduating class.
“It’s not fair, but please don’t be embittered by this fact,” Hanks, 66, began. “Now, without having done a lick of work, without having spent any time in class, without once walking into that library — in order to have anything to do with the graduating class of Harvard, its faculty, or its distinguished alumni — I make a damn good living playing someone who did.
“It’s the way of the world, kids,” he added as the audience erupted with laughter.

This article contains major spoilers for the ending of "Knock at the Cabin."
M. Night Shyamalan movies have typically featured characters attempting to make sense of powers beyond their control. Ghosts, aliens, superheroes, and, yes, all things spiritual fall squarely under this label and the visceral thrill provided by genre movies has always allowed the divisive filmmaker to explore such topics with ease. It's a lot easier to sneak these sorts of ideas into mainstream entertainment than it is to get viewers to flock to the theaters to watch, say, a three-hour epic about Catholic missionaries attempting to convert Japanese unbelievers in the 17th century.
So it should come as no surprise that "Knock at the Cabin," the latest Shyamalan movie about skeptics being confronted with the fervent belief that the end of the world is upon them, would come laced with all sorts of biblical imagery and references. Yet...

Ron Howard's "The Da Vinci Code" has not aged very well; even franchise star and all-around nice guy Tom Hanks hasn't had many nice things to say about it over the years. However, every movie series has its fandom, and "The Da Vinci Code" is no different. The follows Robert Langdon, a professor of religious symbology, who is a suspect in the murder of a Louvre curator and ends up searching for the Holy Grail alongside police cryptographer Sophie Neveu (Audrey Tautou). Based on Dan Brown's best-selling book, "The Da Vinci Code" grossed 760 million worldwide on a 125 million dollar budget, which apparently justified the existence of two less successful sequels, "Angels & Demons" and "Inferno." We may not have the fondest memory of those films, but at least it seems like Hanks had fun on set filming the religious mystery thriller.

"Oh, let's talk about jokes," Vanessa Ramos says. "I only ever want to talk about jokes." The writer's first series as showrunner, "Blockbuster," is packed to the brim with them. There are even gags audiences might not catch at first glance, including a subplot about a missing person that basically plays out in the background.
"Blockbuster" isn't Ramos' first experience with workplace comedy. Previously, she wrote for "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" and "Superstore," not to mention produced and penned a handful of standout episodes from HBO's "Crashing." During lockdown, she had the idea for "Blockbuster." The ensemble comedy, which stars Randall Park ("WandaVision") and Melissa Fumero ("Brooklyn Nine-Nine"), taps into some nostalgia for the days of roaming video stores. Although the Netflix show's tone is mostly nice and light on its feet, it also has its moments of strange references and bizarre subplots. Recently, Ramos told us about how a few of those jokes came about.

After a successful month of true crime content thanks to the Ryan Murphy double feature of Dahmer and The Watcher, Netflix is digging back in to the documentary and docuseries world with its list of new releases for November 2022.
The true-crime-a-palooza begins on Nov. 2 with the release of Killer Sally. That will be followed by docuseries like Pepsi, Where’s My Jet on Nov. 17 and documentaries like State of Alabama vs. Brittany Smith on Nov. 10 and I Am Vanessa Guillen on Nov. 17. Of course, Netflix’s Original department is turning out some heavy hitting scripted series as well. The long-awaited Manifest season 4 part 1 arrives on Nov. 4. Arriving on Nov. 23 is the Tim Burton-directed Addams Family spinoff Wednesday. That will feature the titular young character as she investigates a murder spree at Nevermore Academy.

It’s last call for a number of excellent Comedy Central series as well as a handful of genuinely great films on HBO Max this month.
On Oct. 31, the Comedy Central shows “Key and Peele,” “Nathan for You,” “Inside Amy Schumer,” “Reno 911!” and “Chappelle’s Show” (the first two seasons) will depart HBO Max, likely heading to Paramount+ at some point in November.
Also leaving HBO Max this month is the Halsey music film “If I Can’t Have Love I Want Power,” as well as the surprisingly great horror prequel “Annabelle: Creation.” Other noteworthy depatures include “Capote,” “High Fidelity,” “Jerry Maguire,” “McCabe and Mrs. Miller,” the 1994 version of “Little Women” and the “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” movies.

He taught Elvis Presley how to dance, mooned Lbj and ran across the country…like, a lot. But what else could simpleton Forrest Gump do? As it turns out, that’s not all that enticing of a question, as a sequel for 1994’s Forrest Gump was quickly nixed, according to Tom Hanks.
As he revealed on a recent episode of the podcast Happy Sad Confused, Tom Hanks revealed that the idea for a Forrest Gump sequel was approached–it was a massive hit at the box office and on awards night–but quickly tossed. “I will say that, with a long time in between, we did take a stab at talking about another Forrest Gump that lasted all of 40 minutes…And then we never- we said, ‘Guys, come on.’”

Netflix is about to remove a alrge selection of movies and TV shows from its service.
Every month, without fanfare, numerous titles are removed from the streamer.

Netflix doesn’t publicise the titles it will remove – and users will only be alerted to something’s imminent removal if they happen to select the title in question.
But, with help from the team at What’s on Netflix, we’ve compiled the full list – and you can find the compilation of everything being added this month here.

A fire broke out at Rome’s historic Cinecittà Studios on Monday afternoon (Aug. 1) and was extinguished by three teams of firefighters.
The fire broke out in the area where a set depicting renaissance Florence was housed and which was being decommissioned, destroying parts of it. It also disrupted the shoot for Netflix’s sequel to Charlize Theron film “The Old Guard” and threatened the “Big Brother” house.
“The fire has been extinguished. There are no injuries, no poisoning, no serious material damage,” Cinecittà Studios spokesperson Marlon Pellegrini told Afp in a statement.
The cause of the fire is not immediately clear, though conditions are dry and potentially incendiary in Italy, which is undergoing a heatwave.
The studio has history with fire. In 2007, flames engulfed warehouses housing sets for HBO/BBC series “Rome” and 32,000 square feet of studio space were destroyed. And in 2012, some parts of Studio 5, where Federico Fellini...

Say this for Victoria’s Secret: The company knew exactly what story it wanted to tell.
According to ex-ceo Cindy Fedus-Fields, Les Wexner, the founder of parent company L Brands — which also owned Abercrombie & Fitch, Lane Bryant, Express, Structure and The Limited — believed the key to building a successful brand was having a story to serve as “not only your inspirational mechanism but also as your control mechanism.” The lingerie line certainly had that. It may have been a narrative about unattainable female physical perfection served barely-dressed for a leering male gaze, but it was coherent, consistent and, throughout the 2000s and early 2010s, extremely lucrative.

Tom Hanks has developed a bit of a habit of crashing weddings over the years. So, on Tuesday night, Seth Meyers got to the bottom of why exactly that is.
During his appearance on “Late Night” in support of “Elvis,” the actor was complimented by Meyers for being “a man of many hats.” But among those hats is being the guy who shows up weddings, “invited or not.” Hanks took the jab in good spirits though, explaining that he really doesn’t do it for the couples getting married, but for himself.
“It’s my ego, unchecked,” Hanks joked. “I just can’t help but think ‘What would these people like more than anything else to remember this magic day of days? Oh I know, me!'”
Meyers then took a moment to call up some of Hanks’ most famous wedding appearances, asking for an explanation on all of them.

Tom Hanks has cracked “The Da Vinci Code”…and dubbed it “hooey.”
In a recent interview with The New York Times, Oscar winner Hanks called the Ron Howard-helmed trilogy “as cynical as a crossword puzzle” and an outrageous adventure story ripe for the box office. The franchise kicked off in 2006 before spurring two sequels, “Angels & Demons” and “Inferno.”
“God, that was a commercial enterprise,” Hanks said. “Yeah, those Robert Langdon sequels are hooey. ‘The Da Vinci Code’ was hooey.”
Hanks continued, “I mean, [author] Dan Brown, God bless him, says, ‘Here is a sculpture in a place in Paris! No, it’s way over there. See how a cross is formed on a map? Well, it’s sort of a cross.’ Those are delightful scavenger hunts that are about as accurate to history as the James Bond movies are to espionage…All we were doing is promising a diversion.

With its list of new releases for June 2022, HBO Max is joining in what should be a TV summer to remember.
Not content to let Netflix’s Stranger Things or Prime Video’s The Boys to dominate the summer TV landscape, HBO is coming through with a new season of one of its big hits. Westworld season 4 is set to premiere June 26 on both HBO and HBO Max. What will this season of the increasingly confusing sci-fi drama be about? Per HBO’s synopsis it will be “A dark odyssey about the fate of sentient life on earth.” So you know, only that.
Irma Vep is the only other Max Original of note this month. Based on a 1996 cult classic of the same name, this limited series stars Alicia Vikander as a disillusioned movie star looking to remake the early 20th century French silent film serial Les Vampires.

Exclusive: AMC Networks has acquired North American rights to Monsieur Spade, a one-hour drama starring Clive Owen from The Queen’s Gambit co-creator Scott Frank and City On A Hill showrunner Tom Fontana. Black Bear Television also has joined as the series’ studio and will deficit finance.
FilmNation Entertainment (I Know This Much Is True) will handle international distribution outside of North America. French production company Haut et Court TV will co-produce and handle local production services.
The series will be shot in France this summer. Pre-production is underway.
Co-written by Fontana & Frank, and to be directed by Frank, Monsieur Spade centers around writer Dashiell Hammett’s great detective Sam Spade (Owen), the protagonist of Hammett’s 1930 classic The Maltese Falcon. Monsieur Spade finds Spade (Owen) in the South of France in 1963 at the end of the Algerian War, years after the events depicted in The Maltese Falcon.

In the months leading up to “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” speculation ran rampant about which Marvel stars could potentially make cameo appearances in the film. After “Spider-Man: No Way Home” broke down the floodgates with its multiverse reveal, leaving the door open for just about anyone to show up.
Over time, one name began to take priority over all others: Deadpool. Certain fans became convinced that Ryan Reynolds would play his beloved foul-mouthed superhero in the film, although the actor adamantly denied his involvement whenever the topic came up.
“I’m really not in the movie,” Reynolds said. “I’m promising I’m not in the movie.”
But in true superhero fandom fashion, Marvel’s most online fans remained convinced they knew the situation better than Reynolds. If anything, his denials only poured gasoline on the rumor fire. After all, Andrew Garfield admitted to blatantly lying about...

Have no fear, more “Loki” is almost near. Lead star Tom Hiddleston confirmed that production will be “starting very soon” on Season 2 of the Disney+ series.
“It’s around the corner,” Hiddleston told Entertainment Tonight. “We’ll certainly be going in the summer.”
Hiddleston added he’s “excited to get the band back together,” reuniting with co-stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Owen Wilson, both of whom have confirmed their respective returns to the series.
“Loki” creator Michael Waldron, who penned “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” noted that Season 2 will be a “continued evolution” of Hiddleston’s Loki, who is caught up with the Time Variance Authority agency.
“If we’re going to continue [the first season story] in a second season, we have to cover new emotional ground,” Waldron said. “That’s what was always important to Tom and that’s what was important to me.”
And yes, “Loki” will deal with the repercussions of “Multiverse of Madness,...

Since Cinecittà Studios was founded in 1937, the sprawling facilities have driven the golden age of Cinema Italiano.
The famed city of cinema has also, albeit intermittently, been a magnet for international productions and endured wild fluctuations in the country’s political climate, before recently reemerging as a new frontier for the country’s film and TV industry.
Located in the heart of the Mediterranean basin, a short ride from the center of Rome and its airports, Italy’s top production hub has to date, hosted more than 3,000 films that have earned 53 Oscars.
During the period following World War II, the studios forged close ties to Hollywood, which helped the Italian industry gain its international standing.
The myriad Italian pics made at the studios range from Federico Fellini’s “La Dolce Vita” (1960) and “8½” (1963) to Nanni Moretti’s “Sogni D’Oro” (1981), Sergio Leone’s epic “Once Upon a Time in America...

Sometimes fans and creators actually manage to think alike. As screenwriter Michael Waldron (Loki, Rick and Morty) reveals in our in-depth, spoiler-heavy interview about the making of Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, before MCU followers started speculating online that Tom Cruise would appear in the film as an alternate-world version of Iron Man, Waldron had the very same idea. By now, fans should know the drill of denials and misdirection in marketing that precedes the release of a Marvel movie. In a bid to safeguard plot surprises and keep spoilers from leaking, actors like Andrew Garfield have been known to have some fun outright lying to the press about their roles in upcoming Marvel Studios films. "Spider-Man: No Way Home" has come and gone, so now that old, teasing, promotional song-and-dance has begun anew with "Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness."

Recent Sales Success
I had the recent fortune of some puzzle pieces all falling into place at the same time. It only resulted in me selling one comic but I think the turn of events involved was worth documenting. It all started the morning after the Superbowl. I had the day off as it was my birthday and I awoke to see the words Doctor Strange, Illuminati and Professor Xavier all trending online! Of course, the first thing I did was to watch the new trailer and like a lot of people I was blown away. I am really looking forward to this movie. It’s amazing to think how they are still trying and succeeding at keeping things fresh and exciting after Endgame. I slept on Spider-Man No Way Home and just never got around to seeing it. I enjoyed the first Doctor Strange movie and am looking forward...

As promised by the title of the film, the official trailer for "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" is filled with utter madness. There's certainly a lot to unpack, but when it comes to That voice at 1:18, it kicks down whatever forbidden door was cracked open to let "Spider-Man: No Way Home" happen and introduces a plethora of possibilities for the Marvel Cinematic Universe to be even more connected to the House of Ideas' films that existed before it's inception. Because make no doubt about it, that was Patrick Stewart's voice we heard in this trailer that premiered during Super Bowl...

Speculation is running rampant about the identity of the mysterious fiery person in the new Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness trailer. Is it Captain Marvel gone full Binary? Is it Monica Rambeau powered up? The Human Torch’s first appearance in the MCU? Sunfire quitting the Illuminati? Or is it Vulcan, and DS2 is just a War of Kings adaptation? Probably not the last one.
But there is one very intriguing possibility, a version of Tony Stark that would fit the tone this movie appears to be going for…

This article may contain spoilers for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
This week we got a big first trailer, a TV spot, and a new poster for Sam Raimi’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and they were packed full of so many interesting tidbits! Marvel Zombies! Wanda back in Westview! Strange Supreme! Defender Strange! Professor X! The Illuminati! Captain Carter! Rintrah! Gargantos! America Chavez! The Savage Land?! But one thing the trailer didn’t show us was who might be the puppet master of this terrifying multiversal breakdown of reality, despite Mordo pointing his finger straight at Strange.
Marvel’s official synopsis for the highly anticipated movie reveals a little more, however. It confirms that in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Stephen will traverse “the mind-bending and dangerous alternate realities of the Multiverse” to confront “a mysterious new adversary.” That does seem to...
