Rookie cop Denny Colt returns from the beyond as The Spirit, a hero whose mission is to fight against the bad forces in Central City.
The underwater scenes were all shot dry-for-wet, which greatly relieved Eva Mendes, who didn't know how to swim.

The Octopus and Silken Floss worry that if the Spirit gains possession of the Heracles vase and drinks the contents, he would become a god. The Spirit doesn't even know of the existence of the crate holding the vase, the vase, or the vase's contents. Furthermore, even if he did, there is no indication at any point in the film that he would want to drink blood out of the thing.
In the opening credits, the title of the film is the very last thing shown. Typically, the title appears early in the credits, and "directed by" is the final credit.
