Exclusive: Nat Faxon, Kevin Dunn, Marquise Vilsón, Marinda Anderson, Don Fanelli and Nancy Lenehan are set for major recurring roles opposite lead Abbi Jacobson in Amazon’s A League of Their Own, a reimagining of Penny Marshall’s 1992 film, from co-creators Jacobson (Broad City) and Will Graham (Mozart in the Jungle) and Sony Pictures TV.
The hourlong series, described as a fresh approach to Marshall’s classic about the real-life All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, will follow new characters who embody the spirit of a generation of women who dreamed to play professional baseball. “The show takes a deeper look at race and sexuality, following the journey of a whole new ensemble of characters as they carve their own paths towards the field, both in the league and outside of it,” according to the streamer.

In 2001, the Broken Lizard comedy troupe wrote and starred in the comedy “Super Troopers” about five goofball Vermont state troopers who are forced to save their jobs by actually solving a crime instead of pulling pranks all day. The film was a moderate box office success and was a hit on home video, and in the past 15 years, it has become a cult classic. Now, the long-awaited sequel has started filming, confirmed by the Broken Lizard Facebook page with the cheeky comment: “Action, chickenf**kers: back on set and we just the first new scene of #SuperTroopers2.” Check out the photo below.

Another day, another mutant being added to Bryan Singer.s X-Men: Apocalypse, and the ever-expanding X-Men universe. Rumors that the mutant telepath Psylocke would surface in Singer.s next X-Men movie have been confirmed by the director, and we even know right off of the bat who will play her: Excited to welcome @oliviamunn as Betsy Braddock! #Psylocke #XmenApocalypse #Xmen A photo posted by Bryan Singer (@bryanjaysinger) on Apr 13, 2015 at 1:04pm Pdt As you can see in Bryan Singer.s Instagram post, former Attack of the Show! co-host, Newsroom standout, and frequent movie supporting player Olivia Munn has bagged the latest mutant persona. Munn has dabbled in comedy (The Babymakers) and big-budget affairs (Iron Man 2, Date Night). Her best role to date probably was a turn in Steven Soderbergh.s Magic Mike. This will be her highest-profile role, for sure, but a lot of that depends on how...

Olivia Munn is reportedly close to joining the cast of the Johnny Depp-fronted Mortdecai.
The Newsroom actress is in talks for an unspecified role in director David Koepp's adaptation of Kyril Bonfiglioli's novel, according to Deadline.
Mortdecai is based on the fourth instalment in Bonfiglioli's literary series The Great Mortdecai Moustache Mystery, which follows an art dealer on a mission to uncover a secret bank account filled with Nazi gold.
Ewan McGregor and Gwyneth Paltrow were previously announced as supporting cast members.
Munn, who has been a regular fixture on HBO's The Newsroom, recently appeared on the big screen in The Babymakers and Magic Mike.
The Great Mortdecai Moustache Mystery was completed by Craig Brown after Bonfiglioli's death and published in 1996.

Since her days at G4, Olivia Munn has made a decent name for herself as a film and TV star. From delivering satire on "The Daily Show" to talking fast on the Aaron Sorkin scripted "The Newsroom" and bit parts in Date Night and Iron Man 2, Munn is currently in talks to join Mortdecai, the crime comedy based on Kyril Bonfiglioli's The Great Mortdecai Moustache Mystery, the author's final novel which remained unfinished until satirist and parodist Craig Brown completed it. Though her role is unknown, this is poised to be one of her highest profile jobs with Johnny Depp in the lead role of the David Koepp directed film. Considering the only cast members on board are Depp, Gwyneth Paltrow and Ewan McGregor, we're betting Munn's roles is pretty sizable. Munn has taking roles larger than the aforementioned brief appearances on the big screen, but they have...

There are a lot of things that last year.s Silver Linings Playbook got right, and the film and its cast and crew have the awards to show for it. Should there have been a category for .Best Reminder of an Actor.s Likeability,. the re-emergence of Chris Tucker would have certainly secured the trophy. The prospect of another Rush Hour sequel still makes my skeleton groan, but I.m happy to pass on the news that his next role will be in an original comedy. Tucker will return to a leading role in Relativity Media.s Second Honeymoon, which will be directed by Phil Joanou (Gridiron Gang), no stranger to career hiatuses himself. (You might remember he directed the pretty stellar Punisher: Dirty Laundry short last year.) It's kind of hard to believe it's been twelve years since Super Troopers first was released, and I don't think I've seen it since it was in theaters. I honestly never thought of or expected to see a sequel for the movie, but it looks like the Broken Lizard comedy troupe is getting back together to give us one! Since Super Troopers they've made a few other comedies such as Club Dread, Beerfest, The Slammin' Salmon, The Babymakers, and Freeloaders, none of which have been as good or funny as their first film.
Apparently Super Troopers 2 secured financing back in 2009, but writers and the studio couldn't agree on a script. Now in a recent interview with Guy Speed, Kevin Heffernan, who played Farva, said that the sequel could start shooting this year!
There will be a Super Troopers sequel. We put it off for a while and then came back to it.

The original Super Troopers premiered at the 2001 Sundance Film Festival and played in theaters a year later in February of 2002, and questions of a sequel have persisted ever since. The Broken Lizard comedy troupe has since made Club Dread, Beerfest, The Slammin' Salmon, The Babymakers, and Freeloaders, but it's safe to say that none of those follow-up projects were as iconic as the group's breakout effort. But it looks like they're going back to what worked, as Guy Speed (via ScreenCrush) has an interview with Kevin Heffernan (who played Farva) who says the comedy sequel could finally get underway this year. Read on! We last heard that Super Troopers 2 secured financing way back in 2009, but though multiple drafts were written, it sounds like the writers and the studio couldn't agree on a script, until now. Here's what Heffernan told Guy Speed: “There will be a Super Troopers sequel. We...

Chicago – Sitting in the dark, watching 2012 unspool through the reels of the year’s films, often creates a situation in which time can actually be felt going by. That happens when viewing “The 10 Worst Films of 2012.” Brian Tallerico and Patrick McDonald join forces to analyze these time wasters.
From fish who eat people, to old-timer baseball scouts, to campaign year propaganda, no subject seemed untouched in the pursuit of 2012 cinematic blight. To soften the blow, Tallerico and McDonald split the assignment, and contributed five films apiece from their Halls of Shame. A Redeeming Factor is added, to keep them from going completely insane. Each reviewer is indicated by their initials (BT, Pm) at the end of their insight for each torturous film. And away we go…

Alright New Girl fans. Here’s an intriguing question for you. Have you ever imagined what Nick’s dad might be like? Well, you won’t have to rely on your imagination for much longer. The elder Miller, Walt Miller, to be exact, is coming in for a New Girl visit. We’re off to the races when actor Dennis Farina plays Nick’s daddy dearest.
The episode will debut in early 2013 and it looks like our favorite characters will have their hands full. Nick’s father, Walt is a con artist! There’s few actors better equipped for such a role. Farina has got presence, the wise guy attitude, and comedic timing to boot. His most memorable roles for me have been in Get Shorty as an angry mobster and in Out of Sight as Jennifer Lopez’s dad.
TV Line described Walt Miller as a “charming con-man” who is somewhat estranged from Nick.

Jay Chandrasekhar is best known as one of the Broken Lizard comedy troupe and has directed some fairly high-profile movies and TV over the last few years. Perhaps his biggest film was the Dukes of Hazzard from a few years back which was a mixed bag to say the least.
The problem with most of Chandrasekhar’s films and a problem which The Babymakers also suffers from is that they seem in a major hurry to get to the next joke and don’t allow the audience breathing room with the characters. As a result they always feel more like some kind of endurance contest than an actual comedic narrative. During The Babymakers you can see that there was potential for a laugh out loud comedy but the pace is one of two major flaws that meant I only sniggered intermittently throughout the film.

Actress Olivia Munn has done Magic Mike and The Babymakers and now she’s headed to an upcoming episode of New Girl on Fox.
What role will Munn play on the award winning comedy? I’m glad you asked. EW was following the story when great new photos came out featuring Munn on the set.
On the Dec. 4 Om’s episode will air. She plays a hot new love interest for Jake Johnson’s sensitive type, Nick. Her character is tough, no nonsense, and obviously beautiful. Seeing her, in fact, will make Nick break his rule about never coming out from behind the bar. Munn’s character is a recurring one because her storyline is a multi-episode arc. Rock on!
The photos seem to tell the classic story of boy meets girl. There’s the first meeting where Nick looks amused and perhaps pleasantly surprised. Maybe he’s wearing his customer service hat.

There are quite a few entry points for this next piece of news: there are the Super Troopers jokes (boom, accomplished in the headline), the snarky bit about how we all forgot that Yogi Bear 2 was happening, something about Justin Timberlake, and perhaps a jab or two at the profoundly unfunny The Babymakers, but all that chatter aside, there is but one piece of this news worth exploring – it’s a great idea. Deadline Hollywood reports (via ComingSoon) that Jay Chandrasekhar has been hired by Warner Bros. to rewrite and direct their Yogi Bear 2. The film’s current screenplay comes from writers Joshua Sternin and Jeffrey Ventimilia (who were also behind the first film’s script, along with Brad Copeland). Chandrasekhar, though most typically most remembered as “that dude from Broken Lizard,” has quite the varied resume. He’s a director, writer, actor, producer, and editor who has worked in features, commercials...

Despite how critically despised the first Yogi Bear movie was, when an animated film can pull in over $200 million worldwide, it's almost certainly guarantees a sequel. Plans for Yogi Bear 2 were announced earlier this year, but more as a potential project than anything else. According to Deadline, WB has moved forward with the sequel, attaching Super Troopers director Jay Chandrasekhar to rewrite and direct the project, which will almost certainly be in 3D. Chandrasekhar's most recent film was The Babymakers, starring Paul Schneider and Olivia Munn, though he has spent the bulk of his career directing for television series including Chuck, Psych, Community and Royal Pains. No release date has been set yet, but we can probably expect the sequel to arrive sometime next...

Cinema may not be dead, but when the critically reviled, barely more than 80-minute, CGI/live action mashup "Yogi Bear" arrived in theaters at the end of 2010 and earned more than $200 million, well, you could practially hear David Denby curled in the corner sobbing. Of course, a sequel was announced last year and now the wheels are turning, with a truly....odd choice being selected to rewrite and direct the thing. Jay Chandrasekhar, best known as part of the Broken Lizard comedy troupe who have brought to the screen films like "Super Troopers," "Club Dread" and "The Babymakers" (all of which he has directed) will now try and make kiddies laugh with "Yogi Bear 2." Jay Chandrasekhar, one of the founding members of the Broken Lizard comedy troupe, has put his name on raunchy comedies like The Babymakers and Super Troopers, and has directed episodes of cult TV shows like Arrested Development and Community. So what does a guy with a comedy resume like that do to hit the big time? Why, direct the sequel to a critically reviled animated film, of course! Ok, maybe that isn't exactly the obvious next step. And yet, Chandrasekhar is doing it anyway, signing a deal to direct Yogi Bear 2 for Fox, according to Deadline. The first film, released in 2010 and directed by Journey to the Center of the Earth's Eric Brevig, made just over $200 million worldwide, despite a 13% Rotten Tomatoes score and endless eye rolls from most adult moviegoers. Though Chandrasekhar has directed one studio film of a similar scale-- The Dukes of Hazzard-- it's hard...

Olivia Munn will star in a new story arc on Fox’s hit show New Girl. According to Deadline, the actress will play Angie, who is described as “sexy, earthy and charming.” The character will serve as a love interest for Nick (Jake Johnson) and is said to fit in well with the group.
We already know that new characters and relationships will develop in season two for the stars of New Girl and Munn’s character should provide an interesting love interest for the intelligent and humorless Nick.
Munn will film her New Girl episodes before production starts on season two of Aaron Sorkin’s HBO show The Newsroom, in which she stars as economist Sloan Sabbith.
It’s nice to see the actress continuing to balance television and movies, having found success in both mediums. For those who don’t know, she recently starred in the films Magic Mike and The Babymakers.

It's an action-packed week for DVD and Blu-ray releases, although truthfully the only thing that really matters is Indy in HD. The original three Indiana Jones movies make their long-awaited debut on Blu-ray this week, although for the time being, they are not available individually. Other major releases include Drew Goddard and Joss Whedon's meta-horror flick The Cabin in the Woods, well-received drama The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, and the 3D documentary Katy Perry: Part of Me, along with some noteworthy indie titles like the Oscar-nominated animated film Chico & Rita, Broken Lizard comedy The Babymakers, and The Duplass Brothers' latest comedy The Do-Deca-Pentathlon. David Fincher's The Game also finally gets a Criterion re-release on Blu-ray and Chris Elliot's cult TV series Get a Life gets a full series set as well. What will you be buying or renting this week? It's tough to redefine yourself when the way you've defined yourself is through big, broad, raunchy comedies, but director Jay Chandrasekhar is trying to do just that--by making a big, raunchy comedy that also has some heart to it. "The Babymakers" stars Paul Schneider as Tommy, a guy happily married to Audrey (Olivia Munn). There's just one little problem--he can't get her pregnant. Turns out that over the years his sperm count has dropped, so he comes up with the only solution he knows of--he's going to pull a bank job. A sperm bank job, that is, stealing the stuff he donated years ago that he knows is, um, high-quality. He enlists his friends--Chandrasekhar's longtime collaborator Kevin Heffernan amongst them--and an Indian mobster (played by the director himself). The end result is occasionally sweet and often sickly sticky. And when we say sick, we mean it. Jay Chandrasekhar spoke with Upcoming-Movies.

Jay Chandrasekhar and Kevin Heffernan are no stranger to gross-out gags. From their work with the Broken Lizard group to their own separate material, they have proven time and again that they are willing to push things as far as they will go. But is there a line that they won.t cross? According to them, the philosophy is that as long as the laugh is there, they.re willing to go for it and follow the joke. The two writer/director/actors recently made the comedy The Babymakers, which is now both in theaters and on VOD, and prior to the release I had the chance to hop on the phone and talk with the two of them about working together and getting their new movie made. Check out the interview below in which they talk about the evolution of the project, what it.s like working from material...

The Babymakers
Directed by: Jay Chandrasekhar
Cast: Paul Schneider, Olivia Munn, Kevin Heffernan, Nat Faxon, Wood Harris, Jay Chandrasekhar
Running Time: 1 hr 35 mins
Rating: R
Release Date: August 3, 2012 (Chicago and VOD)
Plot: After finding out he’s sterile, a young husband (Schneider) tries to steal back his last deposit at a sperm bank so that he can impregnate his wife (Munn).
Who’S It For?: The Babymakers is one of those R-rated movies that’s best enjoyed by 13-year-olds, even though the MPAA says otherwise. But considering that this movie is now on Video On Demand, it should be easier for young men to access this without having to say, “Yo, gimme a ticket to Moonrise Magic Mike Kingdom.”
Overall
Attempting to show the goofy aspects about being a guy through expression of juvenile humor, The Babymakers is a comedy whose grossness becomes nearly unacceptable. It’s fine for...

Title: The Babymakers Directed by: Jay Chandrasekhar Starring: Paul Schneider, Olivia Munn and Kevin Heffernan A comedy lives or dies on it’s humor, plain and simple. If a film under this genre is devoid of any hilarity, then it’s considered to be in some ways a failure. There are many other pieces of the cinematic puzzle that go into place in order to create a movie, but without humor in a comedy then in a way the film has failed. Unfortunately “The Babymakers” falls under that category, a comedy that falters on many levels. For those of you who may not know, “The Babymakers” centers on couple Tommy (Paul Schneider) [ Read More ]...

"I love 'Love Actually!' I just love that movie. It's such a feel-good kind of film. The whole cast had such great chemistry, and the story was just so… so… wonderful!
"That's the kind of romantic movie you want to watch again and again and again. I remember when I saw it the first time and when it reached the end, I was like, 'Start it from the beginning!'
"I really just love it. And that's all there is to say."
Olivia Munn can be seen this summer in the HBO drama "The Newsroom" as well as on the big screen in "Magic Mike" and the new comedy "The Babymakers," in theaters now.

Chicago – One of the questions we’re never suppose to ask the married couple without kids is, ‘when are you going to have kids?’ There might be specific reasons that it’s none of your damn business. Surprisingly, there is a whole so-called comedy based on this question and answer. Olivia Munn goes kid hatching in ‘The Babymakers.’

No matter how you slice the subject of infertility, it simply isn’t the right story line for a comic romp, especially an unfunny one. Two members of Broken Lizard, the cult comedy group – Kevin Heffernan and Jay Chandrasekhar (who also directs) – give themselves up filming and supporting a domestic tale about a couple who cannot conceive. It becomes a heist film, because what they need to steal is so unlikely that it hardly bears mentioning. Okay, it’s seminal fluid from a sperm bank. That will have ‘em rolling in the aisles.

Considered by many to be the worst film of the 1990s, "Frozen Assets" is a comedy about a bank manager who gets a new job running a (wait for it) sperm bank. Considered by many to be the worst films of the 2000s, "Strange Wilderness" was co-written by Peter Gaulke. "The Babymakers" was co-written by Peter Gaulke, and a sperm bank figures heavily in the plot. Draw your own conclusions. To be fair, I wasn't aware of either of these things when I went into "The Babymakers," but after a witless and...

This week in theaters, Colin Farrell forgets his memories of Bruges, the Wimpy kid sticks up a bank, and we try to get back to the City of God.
Check out all of this week's pairings in Double Feature Friday!
"Total Recall" & "In Bruges"
While the remake of "Total Recall" may not be worth more than a Sunday afternoon viewing on basic cable, leading man Colin Farrell once again proves his worth as an under-rated leading man. The prime example of this untapped talent is 2008's "In Bruges." Though it had a limited release initially, the Martin McDonaugh crime film snagged an Oscar nomination for its screenplay and gathered a cult following with its video release. Farrell has the ability to add real human emotion to just about anything he does—as evident with his less than fleshed out "Total Recall" character—but "In Bruges" gave him the opportunity to work with sharp writer,...

You know that comedian at open mic night who provides too many tangential details in his set up and takes forever to get to the simplest of punchlines? This is the movie equivalent. With its thoroughly modern concept, The Babymakers follows a husband (Paul Schneider) who has to break into a sperm bank in order to get back his last viable batch of swimmers and impregnate his wife (Olivia Munn). It’s a fantastic spin on heist stories, and with Jay Chandrasekhar at the helm, there’s a sense of comedic prowess, but the movie itself gets bogged down in its gag set ups, leaving little room for pay off. There are some great moments, but the difficulty in making a story revolving around a sperm bank heist is that, as writers Peter Gaulke and Gerry Swallow most likely found out early on, it’s not all that hard to break into a sperm bank. It...

Now that we're into the first week of August, the end of the summer is in sight and the theatrical releases will soon start dropping off in quality. In fact, that drop in quality may have already begun this weekend with Len Wiseman's remake of Total Recall being the only major release along with the third installment in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. In select theatres, we've got 360 from the director of City of God, the Broken Lizard comedy The Babymakers starring Paul Schneider and Olivia Munn, and a handful of documentaries including the Zach Galifianakis-produced Craigslist Joe. It's certainly not the strongest crop of new films, but it will be interesting to see how Total Recall performs and whether loyalty to the original will hold it back. What will you be watching this weekend? Total Recall Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days Soldiers of Fortune...

The Babymakers
Directed by Jay Chandrasekhar
Written by Peter Gaulke and Gerry Swallow
USA, 2012
In the final shot of The Babymakers, a toddler cries in agony and anguish, a feeling that will be shared by most people who subject themselves to this woefully unfunny exercise in stupidity. The best you can hope for is a light chuckle or snicker, though they may end up being pity laughs, as there are too many decent actors and actresses you’ll pity for being stranded in this loud, obnoxious farce. The premise—after a married couple fails to conceive a child, the husband decides to steal an old sperm sample of his so he can be the one who impregnates his wife—is ignored in favor of meandering, pointless gags and subplots.
Paul Schneider plays Tommy, the frustrated hopeful father whose sperm have become confused, thus making it difficult to get his wife,...

Super Troopers, Club Dread and Beerfest are the films for which director and Broken Lizard member Jay Chandrasekhar is best known, but with The Babymakers, he hopes to change that. Although the new film, which stars Paul Schneider and Olivia Munn, goes to incredible -- and incredibly immature -- lengths to portray the desperation of a would-be father trying to help his wife conceive their first child, it also features the filmmaker’s sweetest story to date, creating a hybrid between raunch and real feeling that he hopes to develop further going forward. Jay Chandrasekhar and Kevin Heffernan are two-fifths of the Broken Lizard comedy team. Chandrasekhar and Heffernan first garnered mainstream attention (and some notoriety) for their second feature, "Super Troopers," which has gone on to become a cult comedy fave. Since "Super Troopers," the duo have worked on several other features and been involved with a number of television series including "Arrested Development" and "Curb Your Enthusiasm". "The Babymakers" marks their latest feature film collaboration. The film follows an impotent hubby's (Paul Schneider) quest to impregnant his wife (Olivia Munn) by any means, eventually attempting to steal his previously donated sperm from a cryobank. "Babymakers" is both a romantic comedy and a heist film, and through its romantic grounding, a slight departure from their previous work. Let's be honest here: The last few films by comedy troupe Broken Lizard put them on a "Who the hell thought this would be funny? This is so painful to watch" streak.
To be fair, though, the boys set the bar really high by making their very first film, "Super Troopers," an original and endearing cult classic comedy. Following that film, Hollywood got a hold of them and cast more recognizable stars in their films to build more "credibility," but the laughs — something the troupe is obviously very good at — flatlined. Fart jokes and physical comedy can only go so far.
Now, that doesn't mean their new film, "The Babymakers," starring the highly underrated Paul Schneider and Olivia Munn, lacks the Three Stooges-esque pratfalls we've seen in their previous films. But this time around, the laughs are balanced with heart and charisma.

“Don’t Judge a Book by Its Cover” is a proverb whose simple existence proves the fact impressionable souls will do so without fail. This monthly column focuses on the film industry’s willingness to capitalize on this truth, releasing one-sheets to serve as not representations of what audiences are to expect, but as propaganda to fill seats. Chicago – The comedy troupe Broken Lizard conquered the film world with their first feature, “Super Troopers” in 2001. Over the next decade, they followed up with the popular “Club Dread” (2004) and “Beerfest” (2008). Broken Lizard performers Kevin Heffernan and Jay Chandrasekhar (who also directs) go domestic in the new film “The Babymakers.”
This latest release features Heffernan and Chandrasekhar in supporting roles, with Paul Schneider and Olivia Munn playing a couple trying to breed, but finding too many obstacles along the way. The solution? Break into a sperm bank where Schneider’s character made some deposits, and withdraw his specimen to save the day. Part heist film, part upper middle class fantasy, the Broken Lizard members add their own quirky sensibility to the mix of this high concept comedy.

Olivia Munn is having a moment.
The G4 and "Daily Show" alum recently shattered Channing Tatum's heart in "Magic Mike" (not to mention providing at least two reasons men would want to see a male stripper movie) and is winning over critics with her dramatic turn in Aaron Sorkin's much ballyhooed HBO series "The Newsroom."
And don't miss her in "The Babymakers," a new comedy directed by Broken Lizard vet Jay Chandrasekhar about a dude (Paul Schneider) who, due to a wacky set of circumstances, plots to rob a sperm bank with his buddies (including Bl heavyweight Kevin Heffernan), unbeknownst to his baby-fevered wife (Munn).
We dialed up the Maxim Hot 100 mainstay for the 411 on "Makers" and more.
"Babymakers" isn't technically a Broken Lizard movie, but their handprints are all over it. Are you a fan of their previous work?
Oh, yeah. I mean, my little brother and I bonded over "Super Troopers.

What would Jay Chandrasekhar and Kevin Heffernan‘s baby look like? Thanks to science (i.e. This Website), we now know. Pretty damned handsome, actually. In their latest movie, The Babymakers, a loving husband (Paul Schneider) finds out his swimmers are sad, so he’s forced to rob a sperm bank to get his last viable donation back and impregnate his wife (Olivia Munn) with it. Directed by Chandrasekhar and co-starring Heffernan, the pair joined us to discuss the finer points of semen heists, to talk about the time they turned down the chance to remake a comedy classic and how studios are now pushing comedy filmmakers to get extreme. If you asked someone to list the Top 10 funniest movies of the '00s, it's very likely that the Broken Lizard movie Super Troopers would be on it--or at least it would be if they're even remotely cool. It's certainly become a huge cult favorite, having made nearly four times as much in DVD release as it did theatrically. Over the years, ComingSoon.net has spoken with various members of Broken Lizard and they've hinted that a sequel may be coming.
