Two Saturday Night Live legends, Pete Davidson and Eddie Murphy, are joining forces for The Pickup, an upcoming comedy directed by Tim Story. The project hails from Amazon MGM Studios, with plot details remaining a mystery. Smoke on the street says The Pickup is a heist comedy with a script by Matt Mider and Kevin Burrows.
In addition to his directorial duties, Story produces through his The Story Company banner, with Davis Entertainment’s John Davis and John Fox, and Murphy and Charisse Hewitt-Webster via Eddie Murphy Productions. The Story Company’s Vicky Mara Story, Davis Entertainment’s Jeremy Stein, and Kevin Burrows, Ross Fanger, and Matt Mider executive produce.
When he’s not the subject of paparazzi fodder or changing dating partners like fresh pairs of underwear, Davidson appears in films like Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, Fast X, Dumb Money, and Good Burger 2. He recently completed his role for The Home.

Jason Blum made his name in the movies, but he loves television. The Blumhouse founder loves television so much, he wishes he could be a showrunner.
“My wife is a writer, and I always say the one thing that I would aspire to more than anything else is the job of a showrunner,” Blum said in an interview with IndieWire. “The single most interesting job to me in Hollywood is a showrunner. The idea of creating a world, getting to see the world live and breath over multiple years — if you’re good at it — is fascinating.”
This admiration, in part, is why Blum respects television enough to know what separates it from film.
“It is different,” Blum said, ticking off divergent examples like TV’s “rhythm”, or how its time restrictions are really creative gifts in disguise (“parameters create better storytelling”), or even just the shooting style: “[TV] is shot...

The director’s latest film says much about his own challenges – including the lure of bigger and better things and the way scaling up brings increased scrutiny
After writing, directing and editing episodes of Spike TV’s The Kill Point (2007) and editing Robert D Siegel’s feature Big Fan (2009), Josh Trank got his big break with Chronicle (2012), a low-to-mid-budget feature that he was at the helm of and helped write. Telling the story of three high school seniors who receive telekinetic powers from an alien object and then fall out with each other, and marrying a found-footage format to superhero tropes, Chronicle pulled off the miracle of turning the $12m that it cost to make into a worldwide gross of $125m, and made Trank, at age 27, the youngest director to have a film open in the No 1 position at the American box office.

Exclusive: Exactly a year after signaling its intention to return to scripted programming with event series, Spike TV has greenlighted Tut, a six-hour series about Tutankhamun, aka King Tut (who reigned c. 1333 to 1323 BC), the youngest Pharaoh to rule Ancient Egypt, whose famous golden sarcophagus has become one of the symbols of the ancient civilization. This marks the first event/limited series for Spike since 2007′s The Kill Point, just as the genre is mounting a big comeback on television. “It couldn’t be a better time for Spike to re-enter the scripted arena,” said Evp Original Series Sharon Levy, noting the network’s success on the unscripted side with such series as Bar Rescue and Ink Master. “We’re on the hunt for a drama series next,” she said, adding that she envisions “the future of Spike as a blend of event and drama series” on the scripted side.

Payday 2's dev team attempts a daring heist in a new trailer for the upcoming bank robbery sequel...
Bank robberies are wrong, we all know that, but with so much Hollywood sparkle, they can also be cool. The bank robbery genre of movies often depicts super stylish crews of robbers, realistic or otherwise, that make for interesting casts, and the tension of a good old fashioned bank heist makes for some great cinema (well, sometimes). So, a game based around this nefarious money-grabbing was always going to appeal, especially an Fps with Left 4 Dead-style co-op and random mission structure. Enter Payday: The Heist.
The original 2011 game was greeted with mixed response, with the console port coming off worse than the PC release, but the game was a hit with fans nonetheless, and a sequel is coming this month.

The male-centric Spike TV has filled its line-up with reality fare in the last few years, via shows like tattoo competition "Ink Masters," "World's Worst Tenants" and "Impact Wrestling." But today the network announced its intention to reenter the world of scripted programming with five "special-event series" (which seems to be another term for miniseries) in development from the likes of Raw TV, the team responsible for doc "The Imposter," Kiss frontman Gene Simmons and "Crash" writer Bobby Moresco. The move back into narrative fare comes as Spike TV, home in the past to "Blade: The Series" and "Stripperella," attempts to expand to a broader, less testosteroney audience. The network's last scripted project was 2007's eight-episode hostage drama "The Kill Point," starring Donnie Wahlberg, Michael K. Williams and John Leguizamo. Here's a look at the five series Spike TV has in development (all working titles). Hit Men From Leslie Greif ("Hatfields & McCoys"), Chris.

Exclusive: After a year break from scripted programming, following the end of comedy Blue Mountain State, Spike TV is returning to the arena with a new approach — betting on special-event series. The cable network’s scripted development slate includes five event series, including behind-the-scenes account of the 2012 terrorist attack on the American diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya, whose aftermath still echoes in Washington. The projects hail from such auspices as Tom Fontana, Chris Collins, Leslie Greif, Rock God & Gene Simmons, Bobby Moresco, Jonathan Koch and Steve Michaels, Craig Piligian and Dimitri Doganis & Bart Layton. “We’re concentrated on launching one or more special event series that we see as a great way to get to hour dramatic series,” said Spike TV’s Evp Original Series Sharon Levy, who oversees the network’s scripted development. Each project features Spike’s mission to thrill, inspire, and entertain as we’re broadening and expanding our brand.

Spike TV has, today, unveiled a diverse development slate of five different scripted programs. The projects in development, if greenlit, would each be a special-event series. "Each project features our development's mission to thrill, inspire, and entertain the viewer. We also see this as a stepping stone to developing original scripted dramatic series." Levy will oversee the scripted projects for the network. Spike's last foray into scripted event series was "The Kill Point," in July 2007. The event series in development include the following:...

Science-fiction movie Chronicle proved that films don’t need a heap of star power to be good.
Chronicle tells the story of three high school friends — Dane DeHaan (TV’s In Treatment), Alex Russell (Almost Kings) and Michael B. Jordan (Red Tails) — who discover that they have superpowers. It’s all fun and games until things get dangerous. Soon the boys’ lives start spinning out of control and the friendships are tested.
The PG-13 movie doesn’t have a big name director, either. It’s the first feature film helmed by Josh Trank (TV’s The Kill Point) and the first movie written by Max Landis, based on a story they came up with together.

Chronicle is a sometimes fun, slightly dark film about a boy and his camera. Directed by Josh Trank (his first feature film, although he’s worked on the TV series The Kill Point, Dante’s World and Big Fan), this “found-footage” drama opens with a shot of a menacing white door. The view of the lens is necessarily shaky and the cameraman (or boy) invisible. The impermanence of the lens is compounded by the violent, vibration of the door. As another invisible being pounds against it and furiously shouts for it to be opened, we finally see the reflection of the boy...

After maintaining a part on NBC’s Parenthood, 14-year-old Max Burkholder has been offered to play Charlie in Universal’s sci-fi thriller Vigilandia, opposite Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey. Australian actress, Adelaide Kane, has also nabbed the role of Zoey, after starring in projects like Power Rangers R.P.M. and Neighbors. [The Wrap]
Producer, writer and director James DeMonaco is directing and writing the project, which marks his second directorial effort. He’s collaborated with Hawke a number of times, most notably on Assault on Precinct 13 and 2009′s Little New York. He is also the creator and executive producer of the Spike TV mini-series The Kill Point.
With Hawke singing on just a few weeks ago, we’re still a little blurry on plot details as of now; but I can only assume that Burkholder and Kane will be playing children of Hawke and Headey if the script ends up swaying that way.

In a year packed with comic book and superhero movies, "Chronicle" is shaping up to be one of the most eye-catching of them all. Emerging in late 2011 with an incredible trailer seemingly out of nowhere, the found-footage superheroes-gone-bad flick is very much on our radar, and should be on yours… if for no other reason than it might give you a taste at what Fox's planned "Fantastic Four" reboot is going to look like.
Watch the "Chronicle" trailer!
Variety reports that "Chronicle" director Josh Trank has emerged as the front runner to direct the long developing reboot of the "Fantastic Four" franchise, a series that's been in a holding pattern since the critically panned "Rise of the Silver Surfer" hit theaters way back in 2007.
Casting news isn't likely to come until Trank is locked into the director position — assuming he gets locked in at all, of course — and until a new draft of the screenplay,...

Who will Chronicle The Fantastic Four Movie?
There seem to be two super heroic films in the future of one Josh Trank. One of those is a sequel to The Fantastic Four. Bet you didn’t see that coming.
I’ve literally never heard the name Josh Trank before, but if the climate stays the same, the director could be a major player when it comes to big blockbusters. According to Variety, the young man got his start by writing and directing episodes of Spike TV’s miniseries The Kill Point and from there worked as an editor and co-producer of Robert Siegel’s independent film Big Fan.
One hop and a skip later, and Trank is about to release the film, Chronicle, coming out super bowl weekend. Where as most super hero movies follow the hero, Chronicle is something darker. It unfolds as a bunch of teenagers realize they have superpowers.

[1] 26-year-old Josh Trank is a newcomer to Hollywood by just about any definition, with just one TV series (The Kill Point) under his belt and the premiere of his debut feature Chronicle still weeks away. But execs at 20th Century Fox (which is distributing Chronicle) seem to have quite a bit of faith in the young filmmaker already. Trank has emerged as the frontrunner to direct the reboot of Fantastic Four that's been simmering at Fox for the past couple of years, with a final decision expected sometime next month. More details after the jump. Variety Showblitz [2] reports that Trank has already been in several meetings about Fantastic Four, and that the studio is "high on Chronicle" and eager to continue their relationship with Trank. Fox is now waiting to see how Chronicle does when it opens next month before making an offer for Fantastic Four, but insiders say Trank...

Josh Trank is a largely untested talent. While the young director did do five episodes of the television the series The Kill Point, he has to have a feature film released. But that all changes next month. Trank is the co-writer and director of Chronicle, a found-footage movie from 20th Century Fox about a group of teens that get superpowers. While the movie doesn't come out until February 3rd, apparently Fox is extremely high on the filmmaker right now, so much so that they may choose him to reboot one of their biggest potential franchises. According to Variety, Trank is now the number one choice to bring The Fantastic Four back to the big screen. While the previous two films, which starred Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, Michael Chiklis, and Ioan Gruffudd, were huge successes at the box office - each pulling in at least $280 million internationally - both were critically...

I have to say, this whole faux documentary/found footage “thing” (for me at least) has really been wearing out its welcome. Don’t get me wrong, I do like it when it’s done right, but it usually comes off as pure gimmick… much like 3D. Enter the virtually unknown film, Chronicle.
Chronicle seems to be the first found footage, sci-fi superhero film, and from the looks of the trailer it may have actually been done right. Check out the trailer, synopsis and poster below, and let us know what you think in the comments.

Although the found footage faux-documentary style has been mostly used to great effect with horror films over the past decade or so, recently we've started seeing it applied to some other interesting genres as well. Chronicle finds the aesthetic being applied to a superhero story, as a handheld camera follows around a group of three teens in Portland who have started to develop super powers after being exposed to a strange substance in the woods. At first they just goof off and play little pranks using their new abilities (as any teenager probably would), but eventually they start to take things too far. Looking at the trailer, it kind of reminds me of the first episode of Heroes, where Claire is capturing on video her own attempts to hurt herself. The movie is written by Max Landis (son of John Landis) and is directed by Josh Trank (The Kill Point...

Watch: Trailer For 'Chronicle' Suggests There's Still Intriguing Life In Low-Budget, YouTubey Sci-Fi
These days, anytime a trailer crackles with the lo-fi sound of a faux-found footage doc, a cinematic angel loses its wings. However, this first look at "Chronicle," a low-budget sci-fi film that 20th Century Fox is putting out next year, is admittedly fairly engrossing. Written by Max Landis (son of John Landis) and directed by Josh Trank (the editor on "Big Fan" and a TV director on "The Kill Point"), "Chronicle" is a drama/horror sci-fi-ish film about three friends who gain superpowers from a mysterious substance and then turn on one another when personal problems arise (don't confuse this project…...

After a bunch of TV work in the likes of "The Shield," "Prison Break," "The Gates," "The Kill Point," "Blind Justice" and soapy "Guiding Light", New York-born actor Frank Grillo looks to have scored a rising feature career.
The actor has signed on for two roles recently, the first is to play a Chicago gangster who operates the Continental Wire Service in WB's ensemble crime epic "The Gangster Squad" says Variety.
He's also scored a key supporting role as the tough commanding officer of Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena's leading characters in the indie cop drama "End of Watch".
Grillo will next be seen starring as Joel Edgerton's boxing trainer in "Warrior" and has roles in both "The Grey" and "Lay the Favorite" which are currently in post production.

Why should "Brothers & Sisters" mess with all the drama of grieving? Could it be that ABC has realized that they've put Calista Flockhart's character, Kitty, (and us for that matter) through enough sadness?
An ABC spokesperson confirms to Zap2it that "Army Wives" star, Jeremy Davidson, will play Kitty's rebound guy in a multi-episode arc. Lucky us!
"He's very different than Robert," executive producer David Marshall Grant tells EW, "And a very different guy than the kind of men Kitty's been with her whole life."
After the one year fast forward in Season 5, we'll meet up with Kitty after she has gone through all the phases of depression over losing Robert (Rob Lowe). Kitty has been hiding out at Ojai since Robert's death and meets Davidson's character there.
Davidson currently plays Chase Moran on Lifetime's "Army Wives." Before that he has appeared on "Law and Order" and "The Kill Point" on Starz.
