Main characters like June Osborne in The Handmaid's Tale and Walter White in Breaking Bad showcase the concept of plot armor, surviving in dire situations due to their narrative importance. Characters such as Tommy Shelby in Peaky Blinders and Dexter Morgan in Dexter consistently evade death despite being in dangerous circumstances, solidifying the idea of plot armor. The Doctor in Doctor Who and Rick Grimes in The Walking Dead showcase extreme examples of plot armor, surviving countless deadly encounters and finding ways to keep going despite the odds.
Plot armor referred to when a character was so important to the story of a show that they were impossible to kill off without that marking the end of the entire series. This realization meant that even when the main characters found themselves facing certain death, all logic pointed to them making it out alive. This can often lower the stakes for viewers,...

Scenes in television can be so tense they're difficult to watch, like Walt Jr. calling the police on his dad in Breaking Bad. Michael Scott's tense moment revealing broken promises in The Office made it cringe-worthy to watch. The horrifying abduction and torture of David Fisher in Six Feet Under reached levels of intensity never seen before.
While heart-racing and tense scenes in television series can be some of the most thrilling aspects of an ongoing show, there have been occasions where they became so tense that it was difficult to even get through them. From emotionally draining character interactions to heartbreaking last moments before a death occurs, there have been so many incredibly tense and nerve-wracking moments throughout the history of television. These were scenes that some viewers would rather skip upon a rewatch than knowingly put themselves through that type of emotional turmoil again.

Cranston's diverse acting range shines in both comedy and drama, from his iconic roles in Breaking Bad to Malcolm in the Middle. His recent cameo in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia shows his ability to seamlessly transition between comedic and dramatic characters. Although Walter White defined his career, Cranston's portrayal in Malcolm in the Middle exceeds his appearances in Breaking Bad.
Bryan Cranston is one of the 21st century's biggest names in television, due in no small part to his role as Walter White in Breaking Bad, and his recent reunion with former co-star Aaron Paul confirmed Cranston's status in an interesting way. Despite Breaking Bad being a drama through and through, the show's leading man came from an established comedy background. The 75th Primetime Emmys has officially come and gone, and unfortunately for Better Call Saul, the final season of the critically and commercially reviewed series walked out empty-handed. What’s even worse is that the prequel to Breaking Bad has an unwanted record as Better Call Saul has 53 Primetime Emmy nominations and does not have a single win. Its predecessor, Breaking Bad, was an Emmy darling as it has 16 wins under its belt. The Emmys are no stranger to snubbing television content before – The Wire, The Leftovers, Peaky Blinders, and Mindhunters are some of the most notable examples.

Cedric Smith's absence in X-Men '97 has been addressed.
Brad Winderbaum, one of the show's executive producers and the head of streaming, television and animation at Marvel Studios, spoke about X-Men '97 in ComicBook.com's Phase Zero podcast. He was asked about the switching of voice actors for Professor X, as the character was originally played by Cedric Smith in X-Men: The Animated Series. While X-Men '97 brings back many original voice actors, with some of them reprising the same roles, Smith was not among them. Winderbaum says that the production "had to recast Xavier," and while he didn't name a specific reason why, he suggested that a big part of it had to do with casting prolific voice actor Ross Marquand in the role.

In many ways, Breaking Bad is the perfect binge-watch. Walter White's descent into villainy made for a fascinating character study and was packed with so many game-changing twists that fans couldn't wait to tune in and find out what might happen next. From the dynamic between series protagonists, Walt and Jesse, to the epic confrontations with the numerous drug world crime bosses they encountered, the pair walked a fine line between sympathetic heroes and downright villains.
But when it comes to ranking all 5 seasons, what was the critics' verdict? Combining the average critic scores found on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic can pin down the show's highs and lows. Even a series as critically acclaimed as Breaking Bad had its low points. And for a series about a high school chemistry teacher who unexpectedly became a meth baron, it's only fitting that the results are surprising.

Walter White delivers some of the most memorable quotes in Breaking, showing the duality of the character. Walt's increasing power allows him to become more ruthless, intimidating even the most dangerous criminals. Many Walter White quotes highlight his journey to being a more powerful drug lord while also showing his downfall where he realizes what it cost him.
The best Walter White quotes from Breaking Bad remind fans of the show why Walter (Bryan Cranston) was one of the most compelling protagonists on television for years, with longtime viewers never knowing whether to root for him or despise him. His slow and scary descent from a timid high school chemistry teacher to a drug lord that no one dare cross was riveting through every episode of the series. For the first time in nearly a decade, Kung Fu Panda is back on screen with the fourth installment of the series. Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston is also back to reprise his role in the franchise as Po’s biological father, Li.
Cranston is one of the most versatile actors around, and his genius extends to voice acting as well. In addition to impressing the audience with his charisma on screen, he has also breathed life into characters through his voice alone.
Li is just one of the many characters that Cranston has voiced in his career. And yet, this role could not possibly be any farther from his Emmy Award-winning turn as Walter White in the AMC crime drama Breaking Bad. Unsurprisingly, between the two characters, Cranston certainly had a lot more fun as Po’s father.

In recent years, the TV academy has given goodbye hugs to four Best Drama Series contenders for their final seasons: “Succession” (2023), “Game of Thrones” (2019), “Breaking Bad” (2014) and “The Sopranos” (2007). The only other dramas to land on this farewell list all hail from many decades ago: “Upstairs, Downstairs” (1977), “Elizabeth R” (1972), “The Bold Ones: The Senator” (1971) and “Playhouse 90” (1960). Will “The Crown” now become the ninth such program at the upcoming 2024 Emmys?
According to Gold Derby’s early Emmy odds, “The Crown” is way out front to win Best Drama Series for its sixth and final season. Rounding out the likely Top 8 nominees are “The Morning Show,” “The Gilded Age,” “Slow Horses,” “Loki,” “3 Body Problem,” “The Curse” and “Sugar.” Netflix notably split up the last episodes of “The Crown” into two parts — the first part streamed November 16 and dealt...

The sitcom “Girls5eva” follows the attempted comeback of a fictional girl group that peaked in the early 2000s, now reunited as middle-aged women. But headed into its third season, it’s “Girls5eva,” not just Girls5eva, that’s trying to start anew. After two critically acclaimed, if evidently little-watched, seasons on Peacock, the show has been resurrected by Netflix, which has bankrolled a fresh batch of episodes and made the entire back catalog available to its massive audience of over 260 million global subscribers — many of whom will encounter “Girls5eva” for the first time as a Netflix original.
Once upon a time, Netflix made a name for itself as a place where cult favorites could find the fan base they deserved, making its rescue of a previously canceled project a retro throwback in itself. “Arrested Development” got a second life as a poster child for the possibilities of TV’s new normal...

Robert Kirkman is Desperate to Hire Bryan Cranston for Invincible and Only 1 Role is Perfect for Him
Bryan Cranston is one of the most distinguished actors in Hollywood at present. He has brought to life iconic roles such as Walter White in Breaking Bad and Hal in Malcolm in the Middle, among others. With every role, Cranston has always pushed the envelope of his skills on screen, and in the process, he has set the benchmark for versatility.
In addition to being a wonderful actor with a magnetic screen presence, Cranston has also lent his voice to different characters. During the early days of his career, the Drive actor took to dubbing various cartoons and even anime, interestingly.
With a wealth of experience and talent behind him, Cranston is one of the most sought-after voice actors in the industry. The creator of the show Invincible, Robert Kirkman, has been desperately trying to woo the actor to join his cast, and there is one role that is absolutely perfect for him.

Starting today, three seasons of Girls5eva — the Tina Fey-produced comedy starring Sara Bareilles, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Busy Philipps, and Paula Pell as members of a one-hit wonder pop group struggling to mount a comeback in middle age — are streaming on Netflix. The average subscriber will be forgiven for assuming the show, is, and always was, a Netflix original they just never noticed before, especially since the third season features a couple of meta jokes about being on the streaming giant. (The parents of Goldsberry’s Wickie, for instance, like to binge shows on Streamberry,...

Warning! Contains major spoilers for Constellation.
Bud and Henry's Apollo 18 mission mysteries start unraveling in Constellation episode 6. Jonathan Banks excels at playing two distinct characters intertwined across parallel universes. Bud's desire for revenge on Henry stems from being blamed for his failed space mission.
Several details surrounding Bud and Henry Caldera's Apollo 18 mission remain a mystery, but Constellation's episode 6 might have provided some answers. Going back and forth between two alternate universes, Constellation presents a mind-bending drama that combines some well-known tropes of the sci-fi genre with complex quantum physics concepts. With each episode, the Apple TV sci-fi series gradually removes the tapestry around its overarching mysteries and what is happening to its respective characters.
Jonathan Banks, of the Breaking Bad fame, does an incredible job at portraying two alternate versions of the same character. With his acting forte, he convincingly establishes Henry and Bud Caldera as two distinct characters,...

Some TV shows manage to maintain quality across all seasons, balancing audience expectations and studio requests. Breaking Bad, Ted Lasso, and Friends are examples of shows that consistently delivered strong seasons without quality dips. Ozark and The Sopranos tell gripping stories with strong character arcs in fewer seasons and ending strong.
For most TV shows that last more than a couple of seasons, there are usually some seasons that fail to live up to the rest, but there are some shows where every season was great. TV shows have an enormous challenge: trying to balance what audiences want, a great story, any studio requests, and fitting everything in on time and under budget. With the most successful and popular shows, usually, the turnaround that is expected can be pretty tight, putting the creatives into a tough spot to get the show made, and sometimes the quality lags.

Breaking Bad star Giancarlo Esposito reveals what he wants for the character if he were to possibly get the role as the McU's Professor X.
Esposito has emerged as fans' favorite choice to play Professor X in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's upcoming reboot of the X-Men franchise. In an interview with Empire's Amon Warmann, Esposito responded to a suggestion that legendary actor Denzel Washington could possibly join him in a future X-Men film, portraying Professor X's rival Magneto. Esposito responded enthusiastically, stating that this would be great. The actor also discussed his attachment to the Professor X role and addressed the possible difficulty of playing the wheelchair-clad superhero, stating he hoped to portray a different incarnation of Charles Xavier.

Fallout has been prevalent in the video game industry, and for good reason, because the intricate details that the game got right about its setting were most undoubtedly appreciable. Recently, many video games have been adapted into other forms of media, and Fallout is the latest.
Previous video game adaptations, like The Last of Us, have been immensely successful, and the upcoming TV show based on Bethesda’s RPG series seems promising, too. But all of that begs the question: if one were to develop video games based on TV shows, how would they fare? While it may seem unprecedented, games have been based on some popular TV shows.

Michael Keaton’s Knox Goes Away begins with hired killer John “Aristotle” Knox (Keaton) in his car, cruising through the night to the sound of a mournful saxophone. It seems like we’re gearing up for one of those long, dark nights of the soul that neo-noir thrillers thrive on, but the film proves unwilling to really drive forward into the darkness. In the end, it’s a tale of male alienation that’s a little too afraid of alienating its audience.
Knox lives alone, only interacting with other members of his morbid industry and Annie (Joanna Kulig), the Polish sex worker who comes to visit him once a week. He carries out each of his jobs with cold precision, before then stashing the money he earns with the utmost care. It’s the perfect role for Keaton, given his unique intermingling of intensity and offbeat charm, and he benefits...

As we wait for Disney and Marvel to usher in a new era of X-Men-related film content, questions about who could play the iconic mutants continue to burn in fans’ minds. For several years, fan casts for the part of Wolverine have run rampant online, with everyone from Jared Kesso to Daniel Radcliffe and Taron Egerton floated as someone to play the adamantium-clawed Canadian hero. But what about Professor Charles Xavier? The mutant mentalist is one of the franchise’s most iconic characters. After Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy’s performances, playing the bald father figure to many mutants will take someone extraordinary. How about Breaking Bad, The Mandalorian, and Kaleidoscope actor Giancarlo Esposito?
Speaking with Amon Warmann from the Fade to Black podcast, Giancarlo Esposito says it’d be great to play Professor X in an X-Men project, though he’d like to change an aspect of the character’s mobility.

Johan Renck's new film Spaceman, is only his second feature, after the minor indie release Downloading Nancy, but that doesn't mean he hasn't had a storied career. In fact, he has worn many hats, and his career seems only now to have reached the stellar proportions where something Renck-directed has automatic buzz. That is mostly due to a one-two-punch in recent years. After directing some big Breaking Bad episodes he hit it big by directing the entirety of HBO's hit series Chernobyl. Just a few years before that though, he made two music videos that...

While most of the heavy lifting on the mic from the Bloodline’s side was carried out by Hollywood Rock, Reigns did get his moment to take shots at his former Shields brother Seth Rollins.

Saul worked at Cinnabon in Better Call Saul to lay low and avoid drawing unwanted attention. Gene's life as a Cinnabon manager was boring yet perfect for staying under the radar. Cinnabon was featured in Better Call Saul with no monetary exchange between the brand and the show.

Esposito's ability to play enigmatic villains is showcased in his nuanced performances in both shows. Actors often reprise iconic roles in unexpected places, like commercials, music videos, and TV shows. The appearance of familiar characters in new contexts can surprise and delight audiences, creating memorable moments. Some actors enjoy revisiting beloved characters for the joy of playing the role again and connecting with fans.
When an actor's performance in a role becomes so iconic that they're known for playing that character, they usually get asked to reprise the role in new and different places outside the original material. It can be shocking to turn on the TV one day and see an actor reviving a character thought long gone for a seemingly random project. However, the more niche and unexpected the circumstances are, the more fun an actor can have with the role outside the confines of a major movie or TV show.

Stars of TV shows often step in to direct episodes, showcasing their talent and understanding of the show's dynamics. Talented actors-turned-directors like Bryan Cranston, Neil Patrick Harris, and Hugh Laurie excel at capturing emotional moments on screen. Directing requires a different set of skills, but experienced actors like Julie Bowen and Ellen Pompeo successfully wear both hats in TV shows.
Actors on TV are incredibly talented artists capable of creating a visceral character, but some actors take their talents further, opting to get behind the camera as well and try their hand at directing. It takes a huge team to put together most shows, with multiple writers, cast, crew, and countless other creatives in place just to get some footage recorded, then editors, musicians, and many more step in to enhance the project. And for the most part, these different skills each require a great deal of experience to deliver.

Star Trek: Discovery isn't your typical ensemble show - it's the story of Michael Burnham's redemption, by design. The dark tone of Discovery stems from Lorca's Mirror Universe origin, impacting the crew's dynamic. Discovery evolves from darkness to hope, with its characters navigating trauma and love in a changing galaxy.
There's a lot to love about Star Trek: Discovery that's only noticeable on a rewatch. In 2017, Discovery was Star Trek's return to television after a 12-year drought, and an experiment to figure out what Star Trek would be like, moving forward. The episodic, ensemble-driven optimism that Star Trek embraced didn't fit the changing television landscape, when gritty, violent shows like Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, and The Walking Dead drew consistent audiences with character-focused, highly serialized drama. Saul Goodman's Cinnabon life hit hard for Breaking Bad viewers as it showcased his tragic fate post-Walt's downfall. Meeting Tuco in Better Call Saul connected the two series in thrilling ways, showing the Salamanca danger. Insightful Breaking Bad appearances and connections in Better Call Saul made scenes hit harder for dedicated viewers.
Better Call Saul was an insightful character study of a man on a path of diminishing morally that was made more interesting through knowledge of the events of Breaking Bad. While there may be some viewers who enjoyed the prequel series Better Call Saul without having also watched the tragic story of high-school teacher turned meth kingpin Walter White in Breaking Bad, there were countless scenes that hit so much harder when knowing the full story of both series. The journey of the misguided earnest lawyer Jimmy McGill into the dastardly criminal lawyer Saul Goodman was full of clever callbacks to Breaking Bad.
