Extremely poor PT 'biopic'
The late great porn label Vivid Video made plenty of money with those awful celebrity sex tape releases, pandering to the lowest end of the Adult Entertainment public, and even the great Paul Thomas stooped to that sort of tactic with "Dethroned", a dreadful feature capitalizing on the stripper background of Alex Taylor. Taylor even gets a "Herself" screen credit at the end for sort of portraying her earlier career as an exotic dancer and beauty queen.
PT's direction is inept, with terrible editing (jump cutting from scene to scene with no sense of continuity or smooth story progression) and even poor casting. We find Alex finishing as runner-up in a local beauty pageant, then doing an impressive striptease in a strip joint populated by a ton of extras who all look disconcertingly like creeps recruited from Chatsworth Porn Central, NonSex Division.
She becomes mentor to Trudy, a would-be stripper, and I was immediately confused by the near lookalike casting of the two actresses -muddying up the story line unnecessarily. What follows is a stupid "Rocky" saga, with every cliche intact, right down to a dumb scandal involving beauty contest moral clauses that clearly is intended to be a soap box for the usual pornographer's whining about society being unfair to the Adult biz. This sort of proselytizing is way beneath an artist like PT, but he does it anyway and poorly.
Along the way to a contrived and dumb ending we have a particularly unimpressive leading man played by "Bo", a non-actor with long hair and big dick. He pops up in scenes geographically unlikely to fit the story, leading to a showcase threesome set in the bathroom where he and Alex get down with a beautiful beauty contest girl whose character is suddenly thrown into the show just for the sake of this scene, rather than developed. PT handles her presence so crudely I was completely misled, figuring she must be a villain out to sabotage Alex's chances, but that was just me writing a script where PT's was found wanting.
The whole mess is embarrassing, and might have been saved, or at least been tolerable, if it had been rewritten as a vehicle for '90s superstar Ashlyn Gere, rather than a "play yourself" role for untalented Alex.
