This is the second episode regarding Brennan's family. Her brother returns to warn her that their lives are in danger. A body is found hung, burned, and gutted and the person responsible is surprising. Booth is there for Brennan all the way. He hugs her and protects her. At the end, he assures her that there is more than one kind of family as he looks into her eyes lovingly.

Why he is with Cam instead of Brennan is beyond me!!!!!

Zack also becomes a doctor. But the way he looks may keep him from getting a job. Personally, I like him better the way he was - the new him is a bit creepy...

    Warning: Spoilers
This is the first episode that Bones' father appears in the show. Bones was supposedly 15 when her parents left, so she was old enough to know her father's personality. Although it is understood he changed his looks and voice, it is a stretch that she would not put this together immediately. Especially, him showing up with Russ. Never the less, I love the character "Max". He was an excellent choice, and the episode is very entertaining.

This a packed episode alot happens that is important to the Bones universe. Queen Caroline is back and everything she says is my favorite line!!!!! She is probably in my top 5 TV characters of all time. She would definitely have Booths a** for what happened to her car. Woohoo Zack gets to stay with the squint squad. Come on everyone let Zack live his brain should be what qualifies him not what he looks like. I would've enjoyed seeing Zack correct the panel. Yyaayy welcome Max also quit murdering people please even if it was for your children. Of course law enforcement and the government are caught trying to cover up a murder and framing an innocent African American man for the crime. Wish I could say things had changed so sad.

I say one of the best because arguably, there are many of the best episodes depending almost as much on the reviewer's preference and feelings as anything else. This episode really built a firm foundation as well as many of the endearing qualities for the series and for the future of Bones and Booth. The most important of these for me is how Bone's father and Booth show respect for each other's actions towards Bones. Where Booth is always out to get the bad guy, this is one of the only times that Booth openly semi supports Max, Bone's father, for his actions of murdering those who tried to cause harm to his family.

Ryan O'Neal makes an appearance here as a priest who says he was contacted by Brennan's father. This puts Bones and her brother in danger. The case involves corruption in the FBI years previously, so Booth has to do the right thing and go after one of his own--not an easy task. He is risking big time reprisals from his bosses. The great part of this episode is that fringe characters are brought into play. We also have the subplot of Zach Addy facing a panel, defending his doctoral dissertation. It was a bit like the Spanish inquisition. I'm pretty sure a panel of his readers would be used to modern students, especially those on the spectrum, having some unconventionality when it comes to cultural norms. I thoroughly enjoyed this episode.

This episode is one of the best out of the ENTIRE show. I've watched this many times, and the reveal of the priest as Max Brennan in hiding always hits me in the feels, and it never gets old. Complicated characters like Max represent the integral foundation of modern tv and movies. We know that Max has killed, and in pretty gruesome ways, but we also know that he only does so in the name of love. Such a compelling, fascinating, and beautiful character. One of the most poignant scenes in this episode is when Max kills Deputy Director Kirby, and he takes off his hood to reveal his face, all to the soundtrack of Placebo's Running Up That Hill. So amazing!! "If I only could, make a deal with God, get him to swap our places..."

Hi Bones Booth! Welcome to the show, Max! I love how, because he's impersonating a priest, Brennan is calling him Father, even though in future episodes she goes out of her way to not call religious figures by their official titles. Makes me think that subconsciously, she knew that he was her father. "I wouldn't let anyone else call you a loser, Russ, what makes you think you're allowed?" is such a sweet line, one of my favorites. But if you want favorite lines, all you have to do is listen to every word that comes out of Caroline's mouth. I love the inside scoop from Eric Millegan that he hadn't gotten a haircut yet when they recorded the last scene, so wardrobe gave him that fantastic hat.
  • One of my top favorite Bones episodes!! Filled with so many iconic moments. We get to uncover a little more about Brennan's family and their complicated history. We get to see a cameo of Kathy Reichs, we see Zack become a Doctor, we see again just how close and supportive the squint squad is: going out to celebrate Zack and then when Booth is 'fired' we see them team up to keep working the case to help him. Caroline is back and we get her quick, witty demeanor, LOVE HER CAR BTW!! Everything about Caroline is just endgame though! Booth being there for Brennan is just EVERYTHING and I mean who can forget the, "there's more than one kind of family" line. My heart stops every single time. At this point though, after Booth says it, I genuinely think that it becomes a thesis for the rest of the show as the series progresses and these characters develop and their lives change.

All in all, super good ep!!! A must see and must re-watch!!!

One of my favorite plot twist episodes! It took me a ridiculous amount of time to figure out that the priest was Max...but that's just me being slow. Overall great episode!
