While Game of Thrones saw the most online backlash for its biggest slip in the form of a Starbucks cup in one of the final season’s scenes (which went hilariously viral), this show isn’t by far the worst immersion violator. We’re sorry to be pointing fingers but dear Bridgerton fans, your favorite period drama has been going unpunished for its crimes against historical accuracy for way too long!
Bridgerton Girls Are Way Ahead of Their Time
The one thing that’s the most immersion-breaking and yet happens in every single episode of Bridgerton is its female characters’ looks. The TV show is set in the early 1800s, but the Bridgerton girls are not aware of that, floating around with highlights, contour, and even false eyelashes. Falsies in the 1800s, for crying out loud!
But falsies aside, there was an even more blatant and in-the-face issue just now...

The 70s class of filmmakers who re-shaped cinema with their culture-defining works are seemingly getting some recognition recently. After Killers of the Flower Moon, Martin Scorsese’s stock is as high as ever. Steven Spielberg was recently announced to be revisiting a classic concept with him once again tackling a UFO film. Francis Ford Coppola is back in the spotlight with his ambitious passion project, Megalopolis. And George Lucas is getting honored at the Cannes Film Festival with a Palme d’Or for his contribution to cinema.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lucas would offer some retrospective about his career while accepting the award. He felt nostalgic about attending Cannes, which is where he presented his first feature, Thx-1138, at the Directors’ Fortnight in 1971. He would also, of course, talk about the very film series that is synonymous with him — Star Wars. When speaking about Disney’s purchase of the brand,...

The role of Dexter's straightlaced sister Deb will be played by Molly Brown, and Christian Slater will portray the siblings' dad, Harry Morgan.
Original showrunner Clyde Phillips will return for the 10-episode prequel series.

George Martin’s low fantasy series A Song of Ice and Fire blew up with the premiere of HBO’s Game of Thrones, but that sudden popularity had a curious side effect. The author completely stopped releasing new books in the main continuity, focusing entirely on prequels, spin-offs, adaptations, and other projects… For 13 years now.
The Winds of Winter has been sitting on Martin’s desk for so long that most fans already gave up all hope of ever seeing that book. But that’s where they were wrong!
Grrm Shared The Winds of Winter Release Window
In the past many years, whatever George Martin was doing, he was always getting angry comments about The Winds of Winter. Many even decided that he’d opted for simply dropping ASoIaF after seeing the massive backlash the Game of Thrones’ finale caused — but apparently, the author has actually been writing all this time.

HBO’s House of the Dragon, a prequel to Game of Thrones, is about to release its second season. Not much attention was paid to House Stark in the first season of House of the Dragon, hence it is one of the Houses that fans overlooked. The arrival of one of the most well-known Starks in history will bring us to Winterfell in Season 2. However, not all Starks (or their bastards) will be getting equal screen time.
Sara Snow might’ve negligible appearance on House of the Dragon
Besides Lord Cregan Stark, fans are looking forward to seeing Sara Snow, Jacaerys’ alleged love interest from Fire & Blood. However, she might not have a lot of screen time, as writer Sara Hess recently said this to EW about her, “Expect very little.”
She added: “Our Pov is the Targaryens, and our Pov is split between King’s Landing, Dragonstone, and then when Daemon goes to Harrenhal.

House of the Dragon Season 2 is right around the corner and on time. Even after several scares from the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, the Game of Thrones prequel’s production went down quite smoothly. "Are you having a good time?!" HBO has revealed an official trailer for Ren Faire, a docu series streaming on Max starting in June this summer. Who doesn't love the Renaissance Faire?! When Ryan Condal started preparing and filming for House of the Dragon season 2, he made sure that the actors felt connected to their dragons. According to George R.R. Martin’s literature, Targaryens had a very close bond with their scaled beasts. So, the showrunner found it necessary to let the actors get fully acquainted with their dragons and their strengths.

George R.R. Martin has been working on the final two novels of the A Song of Ice and Fire series, which inspired the HBO show Game of Thrones. The ending of the fantasy show was met with severe controversies due to Daenerys Targaryen’s sudden turn in character. The character goes on a rampage and massacres King’s Landing, which many consider anticlimactic.
The show moved away from the books as Martin took longer to finish his climactic novels and developed storylines on their own. However, if the makers had stuck more to the storyline the author was building, the ending might have made more sense and would have been less controversial. This storyline involved Tyrion Lannister.

Game of Thrones and The Witcher had one thing in common. They veered too far off the source text and kept going until the fans tasted nothing but bitterness and the critics foamed at their mouths with razor-sharp expletives. Star Trek: Discovery could very well be headed down the same road after one Season 5 announcement throws the original fans off their seat with a measure of abject horror.

Given the state of adaptations, remakes, and spin-offs in the current era of the entertainment industry, it can be said with enough accumulated expertise gained through experience that it never ends well for those who overstay their welcome. Movie writers and long-term collaborators D.B. Weiss and David Benioff are arguably most known for their work on HBO’s Game of Thrones. However, the two have worked on a range of other extremely popular projects, such as It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, 3 Body Problem, and Leslie Jones: Time Machine.

Updated with the Latest: Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin gave some updates on his novella-based prequel series The Hedge Knight.
“Things are moving along nicely with our Dunk & Egg spinoff,” the author and executive producer of the HBO megahit series wrote on his blog May 21, 2024. “I am told they just had the first table read, and that it went great.”
Martin also hinted at coming announcements of the show’s cast as well as the progress of bringing the first of his three Dunk & Egg novellas to life.

House of the Dragon season 2 is less than a month away from hitting Max, and that’s about all we can talk about right now.
The show promised to be back with an epic fight after the jaw-dropping season 1 ending, but all the fuss around the Game of Thrones prequel’s comeback is spurred not only by George R.R. Martin’s book series lovers (who already know how drastically things will turn in the next installment), but especially by the show’s proper actors.
Though House of the Dragon’s cast is surely prohibited to spill the beans on everything that’s about to happen in there, one of the show’s actresses has just dropped a major spoiler, and, unsurprisingly, it has a lot to do with Game of Thrones.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is a new series coming to HBO next year, and author George R.R. Martin, the EP of the series and creator of the novels that spawned this world, promises a shift in tone.
The new spinoff “will be a lot shorter than Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon, with a much different tone,” Martin posted Wednesday on his blog. “But it’s still Westeros, so no one is truly safe.”
The series follows the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall (played by Peter Claffey) and his young squire, Egg (played by Dexter Sol Ansell).

When you think about shows that have gone off the rails, Riverdale, Dexter, Game of Thrones, How I Met Your Mother, or Glee usually come to mind.
The majority of the time, it isn't enjoyable. The digression can make for poor television.
However, there are certain cases where it makes TV gold.
Creating Uniqueness
Keeping an audience interested and on the edge of their seats can be challenging.
We want to be enthralled, but that comes with the fact that doing this means changing plots, characters, or many other factors.
Going off the rails does not always have to be a negative thing.
Community, for example, started as a traditional sitcom, but its ever-evolving nature created a cult classic and a truly entertaining hit that never became stagnant.
And then there's The Leftovers, a drama that significantly changed after its first season.

Will “The Gilded Age” find Emmys gold?
After its sophomore season, HBO’s historical drama “The Gilded Age” has entered the Emmy race with up to 37 nominations, Variety can exclusively reveal. This includes outstanding drama series, 15 main cast members and the season finale “In Terms of Winning and Losing,” which will represent director Michael Engler and scribe Julian Fellowes in their submissions.
The central couple, Bertha and George Russell, played by Carrie Coon and Morgan Spector, are contenders in the lead acting categories. Coon, an Emmy nominee for the third season of the anthology crime series “Fargo” in 2017, has a solid chance of picking up her second nom, competing against contenders Anna Sawai, Jennifer Aniston and Emma Stone. Already proving to be a big year for the actress, she could find herself in the Oscar race later this year for her remarkable performance in Azazel Jacobs’ family drama “His Three Daughters,...

Network executives once came to the upfronts on a mission to get advertisers excited about a handful of new series coming in the fall. This year, TV’s big players took a T-shirt cannon approach.
Every one of the major presentations during the May 13-15 sprint in midtown Manhattan — NBCUniversal, Fox, Disney, Amazon, Warner Bros. Discovery and Netflix — emphasized the breadth of the company’s content offerings. Call it the everything-everywhere-all-at-once strategy for the streaming age.
As always, common themes emerged across the week. “Connections” was the buzziest of buzzwords used by executives pitching their hearts out from the stage. Without question, the song of Upfronts ’24, the one heard at most if not all events, was Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ’Em.”
After sorting through the firehose of shows and spin, here are a few trends that stood out this year.
1) Star-Power Surge
Last year, the writers strike kept boldface names from appearing at the upfronts.

There are many ways to end a show, and all of them have been done. We've seen characters move on to symbolize moving on with their lives, like Friends and New Girl. We've been hit with the realization of the purgatory nature of Lost's setup. We've seen Game of Thrones ruin everyone's hopes and dreams and twist the story in the final moments.

This is not the first time that fans have expected disappointment from George R.R. Martin’s The Winds of Winter as it has been delayed several times in the past. The much-anticipated novel is part of A Song of Ice and Fire, and it will be the sixth addition to the series, it is believed to be over 1200 pages.

However, the book is taking so long that some fans of the author and his books have given up hope, because the novel is taking longer than some of the fans could remember. To give a clear idea, the fifth novel of the series was published, when HBO’s Game of Thrones was aired. Since then, fans have been eagerly waiting for the faithful day, when they would hear the cheerful news of the author completing the next novel.

Before House of the Dragon season 2 began filming, showrunner Ryan Condal assembled the actors of the Game of Thrones prequel to view a simple slideshow. The subject of this presentation? Dragons, naturally. The dragon riders needed to get acquainted with their bonded beasts, as they’ll never actually meet them in the scaly flesh.
“These poor actors climb up on a saddle but they never interact with the creature they’re supposed to have this close bond with,” Condal says. “If you believe Westerosi historical propaganda, Aegon [II] and Sunfyre famously had the closest bond between dragon and human in history. During Netflix’s upfront presentation last week, the streaming service promised “additional episodes” of 3 Body Problem, the hugely expensive sci-fi drama from Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, but what does that mean exactly?
“Additional episodes” could mean just about anything, but 3 Body Problem showrunners David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, and Alexander Woo reached out to THR to clarify that the new deal was for “seasons” of 3 Body Problem. Yep, that’s plural. “We knew going into this how many hours we need to tell the rest of the story because we’ve got a roadmap through to the end,” Weiss said. “And we have what we need to get to the end as intended from when we started.“
The exact number of “additional episodes” wasn’t specified, but Benioff added, “By the time we finish with the show, it will be seven years we’ve devoted to it.

Amazon Prime Video has delivered a sublime hit the long-awaited TV adaptation of the video game “Fallout.” The post-apocalyptic sci-fi show depicts a Los Angeles 200 years after a nuclear apocalypse devastates the USA.

The series has received rave reviews from newbies and devotees of the video game alike.
Lucy Mangan (The Guardian) observed: “For newcomers such as me, this intelligent, drily witty, immaculately constructed series set in the Fallout universe fully captivates and entertains on its own terms.”
Aramide Tinubu (Variety) stated: “Bizarre but intensely fun, ‘Fallout’ is like nothing you’ve ever seen; for that reason alone, you won’t be able to turn away.”

This article contains spoilers for "Shōgun."
It already feels safe to say that FX's "Shōgun'' is the TV breakout of 2024. FX, noticing the comparisons of "Shōgun" to "Game of Thrones," has concluded they have a golden goose and picked up the limited series for two more seasons.
"Shōgun" is set in Japan during the year 1600. Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Hiroyuki Sanada) gains an ally in John Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis), a shipwrecked European sailor. Blackthorne came to Japan to ensure the Portuguese didn't seize the island nation before his homeland England could get a trading foothold. When he arrives, he doesn't speak a word of his new companions' language.
One of the first Japanese words that Blackthorne learns is "Teki" — "Enemy." I remember as I watched the scene, I recognized the word myself. I don't speak Japanese, but I have picked up a few words from watching many different anime series.
