A look at the early years of boxer "Irish" Micky Ward and his brother who helped train him before going pro in the mid 1980s.
The young man who rushes into the restaurant to warn the Eklund-Ward family that Dicky is being beat up by the cops, is actually Sean Eklund, nephew of the real Micky Ward and Dicky Eklund and became New England Lightweight boxing champion in 2010.

When Dicky is shown smoking crack, he's simply passed a bottle from which he inhales deeply: in reality, you would need a lighter to ignite the crack-rock on top of the bottle.
The real Micky Ward and Dicky Eklund are shown during the end credits.
