Movie lovers will know that Zack Snyder is a very divisive personality in the world of cinema, as you either love his movies or you hate them. With Snyder, there is no in-between; his vision is so specific that you will either like it completely and enjoy his movies or think it completely ridiculous and consider his movies a failure. There are many examples of that, including his to-date controversial adaptation of Watchmen, his Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and the currently talked-about Rebel Moon series.
But, while the Rebel Moon series has been panned by critics as Snyder’s worst work, it seems that the filmmaker’s collaboration with Netflix is still strong, as it has recently been confirmed that Snyder’s other project with the streaming service will premiere this year!

Zack Snyder made fans very happy when he announced that he is very much interested in finishing his Justice League trilogy. After his tumultuous experience with the 2017 film and the long-overdue Snyder Cut, the filmmaker is now ready to tackle the matter.
Justice League (2017)
After the release of his Netflix original project Rebel Moon, Snyder has now a way to turn his plan to continue the Justice League story, albeit with slight differences in format and storyline. As Warner Bros is very strict with the rights of DC characters, the director would have to be very creative.

During an interview with Empire Magazine via Screen Rant, director Zack Snyder was asked if he would love the idea of finishing Justice League 2 and 3 through animation. As there are no confirmed reports yet regarding this speculation, Snyder was very confident to say:

What was initially a plan for a Star Wars film rejected by Disney seems to have transformed into the worst flop in the career of director and writer Zack Snyder, as the recently released Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver, the sequel to Rebel Moon, is once again panned by critics, with the ratings listing it as Snyder’s worst movie – yes, worse than even the horrible Sucker Punch and the first part of Rebel Moon. And while Snyder’s ambition cannot be denied, and we can expect the extended R-rated cuts to receive better ratings, it seems that Rebel Moon will be, on an overall level, considered a failure.

It's not a controversial statement to say that Zack Snyder can be a polarizing filmmaker. His fans will defend him until they're blue in the face, while his detractors will liken him to cinematic cancer. Me? I'm more of a Snyder agnostic. I like some of his movies, I dislike others. But there's one positive thing I can say for sure: the man knows how to craft an image. Like many filmmakers of his generation, Snyder got his start in music videos, and that taught him how to create memorable, evocative imagery that looks, for lack of a better word, cool.
"Cool" seems to be Snyder's approach to his visuals in general — and you know what? He frequently succeeds. Even if you don't like the Snyder film you're watching, there's a good chance it'll still be loaded with cool images. Because of Snyder's penchant for visual fireworks, his movies often lend themselves to great trailers.

Those who wish someone other than Jesse Eisenberg had played Lex Luthor in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice could have seen their dream come true if Leonardo DiCaprio had accepted the role. Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Snyder said he spoke on the phone with Adam Driver about the villainous role and that he approached DiCaprio about playing the bald baddie, too.
When asked if DiCaprio showed any interest, Snyder said, “I think so.” Adding, “He had a lot of great ideas actually, just in the meeting. I think in the end, he was like ‘Eh, I don’t know.’ But he was really smart about the material and really smart about the character.”

A large open-world map warrants excellent traversal in a game, goes without saying. But players can’t do it alone. They need a buddy, a companion. And what better than a trusty old steed? Ghost of Tsushima lets its players pick their companion’s name as well, adding that extra personal touch.
Whether you named him Sora, Nobu or Kage, you could see Jin have short, heart-warming moments with his horse between missions. And it was these little sprinkles of bonding that wrecked every player’s heart when Jin’s horse died after they escaped from Castle Shimura. 2020 certainly wasn’t a good year for horses in gaming— Remember Shimmer from The Last of Us Part II?

Zack Snyder wishes he could do a new version of 'Sucker Punch'.The filmmaker wasn't satisfied with the final cut of the 2011 psychological fantasy action film, based on an original concept, which starred Emily Browning as Babydoll, a young woman who flees a mental institution and ends up in an alternate reality where patients are sex slaves, and Synder admitted it's the only movie of his career that he would like to change. He told Empire magazine: “The only movie I would change is ‘Sucker Punch,’ because it never really got finished correctly.“Even the director’s cut is not really the correct cut. It’s really just an extended version. If I had the chance, I would fix that movie.”Although he'd like to revisit the flick, he admits there are some legal issues preventing him from doing so.He explained: “I have the footage already shot: they just...

Take any random film directed by Zack Snyder, and hordes of his fans will probably argue that the theatrical ‘cut’ falls short of capturing the true brilliance of the director. From the much-discussed Zack Snyder’s Justice League (2021) to the director’s extended take on Watchmen (2009), the director’s cuts are arguably even more beloved than the theatrical versions.
Although he is now able to release his favorite versions of most of his films thanks to his devoted fan base, Snyder still has one more film he’d like to try. According to Snyder, who recently spoke with Empire, he is still not satisfied with the way his 2011 flick Sucker Punch turned out, and thus, he still wants to “fix” it. Well, it seems fans might need to exercise some patience.

Pick a Zack Snyder movie at random and you’re likely to find legions of the director’s fans claiming that the theatrical cut doesn’t represent the film’s true brilliance. From his extended take on “Watchmen” to the endlessly discussed “Snyder Cut” of “Justice League” that Warner Bros. allowed him to complete after years of online fan pressure, the director is arguably more loved for his director’s cuts than the movies that actually play in theaters.
But while Snyder’s passionate fan base has afforded him the freedom to release his preferred versions of most of his films at this point, there’s still one that he’d like another crack at. In a new interview with Empire, Snyder explained that he still isn’t satisfied with how his critically maligned 2011 blockbuster “Sucker Punch” turned out and hopes to release another version someday.

Developers nowadays are very focused on making their games increasingly cinematic. They would just write some mind-blowing stories, throw in some gut-wrenching moments in those stories, and present them to the players. Sucker Punch Productions too did something similar with Ghost of Tsushima.
This game’s popularity and brilliance are not hidden from anyone. Ghost of Tsushima, a game inspired by the movies of legendary filmmaker Akira Kurosawa, did not pull any punches when it came to storytelling. It led players through a journey of hope and regret and ended it on a very dark turn. Some suggest that Sucker Punch should go a step further in its sequel, though.
Does Ghost of Tsushima 2 need to be much darker than its prequel? A still from Ghost of Tsushima
As a game that was set amidst the Mongol invasion of the island of Tsushima, Ghost of Tsushima was meant to be a bloody affair.

Days Gone was an ambitious zombie horror survival game from Bend Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It was initially released as a PlayStation exclusive until it got ported to PC. The scope and scale of the game were quite large by today’s standards, and director John Garvin’s work speaks for itself.
As part of the PlayStation Studios banner, other creatives from different studios can pitch in for an assist, but Garvin clarified that every narrative decision was made by him and him alone.
Days Gone Director Claims He Wrote the Entire Script Alone
Studio Bend had plans for a Days Gone sequel, but it was canceled by Sony in favor of a brand-new IP with a live-service structure.
John Garvin is back at it again, as he expressed his massive disappointment with how his game turned out to be and hinted at how he believed Sony viewed Days Gone in general.

Assassin’s Creed Red is Ubisoft’s answer to fans who have been demanding a samurai or ninja-style game set in feudal Japan but it seems like the interest has died down ever since PlayStation filled in the void with Ghost of Tsushima. Although it is unofficially announced, Sucker Punch Production’s next project is most likely the anticipated sequel.
The genre has grown through the years and the gaming community’s curiosity has piqued immensely. Ghost of Tsushima 2 could carry the strength of the original while incorporating some concepts from Assasin’s Creed to become the ultimate samurai game.

You know that famous quote commonly attributed to Alexander the Great about how he wept when there were no more worlds to conquer? We're starting to think that Zack Snyder feels much the same way, except that his version of conquering the world is more about finding ways to re-release his movies with extra footage attached at all costs.
To be fair, this isn't exactly a new phenomenon for Snyder. His 2004 "Dawn of the Dead" reboot eventually led to an unrated cut down the line and his comic book movie "Watchmen" ended up with several different versions post-release. He pulled the same trick once again with both "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" and, most infamously, his "Zack Snyder's Justice League" experiment that resulted in a completely different movie altogether compared to the theatrical cut. He's planning on returning to the exact same well with his two-part "Rebel Moon" epic...

Zack Snyder loves a director’s cut. Most of his movies have received some manner of alternate cut over the years, but there’s still one project he’d like to make a proper director’s cut of — Sucker Punch.
Sucker Punch didn’t receive the best reviews upon release in 2011, but Snyder told Empire that he’d love to “fix” the movie if given the chance. “The only movie I would change is Sucker Punch, because it never really got finished correctly,” Snyder said. “Even the director’s cut is not really the correct cut. Related Zack Snyder talks about why a director’s cut of Sucker Punch is unlikely
Snyder added that he already has everything he requires to assemble a director’s cut of Sucker Punch; all he needs is permission.

Movie lovers will know that Zack Snyder is a very specific director. In most cases, you either love his vision of a movie or you hate it completely. There is rarely something in between. But he is also a very specific director because, at times, you can hate one version of his movie and love the other. This is because he rarely has just one version of a movie. Remember how Watchmen ultimately had three cuts? The controversial Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice had two, while Zack Snyder’s Justice League is a phenomenon in itself. Rebel Moon is also set to have a Director’s Cut (both parts), so Snyder really is a phenomenon in that aspect.

There’s rarely just one version of a Zack Snyder film. His Watchmen adaptation arrived in various cuts – theatrical, director’s, ultimate. Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice has its Ultimate Edition. The Snyder Cut campaign brought the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League, while his Rebel Moon films at Netflix will later receive extended, all-out, R-rated versions too. And while his 2011 original fantasy-actioner Sucker Punch technically has an extended edition already, the filmmaker has unfinished business with that film – with something much closer to a full-on director’s cut in mind.
In a major new Empire interview, Zack Snyder answered your reader questions, on movies from across his career (and plenty of other topics aside). And when asked what, if anything, he’d want to change about one of his movies, he gave a broader answer: there’s one movie he actively wants to change in a bigger way.

Sucker Punch Productions’ Ghost of Tsushima, which was initially released on the PlayStation 4 in 2020, had mixed reviews upon release but the game’s story received a generally positive reception. Ghost of Tsushima was developed after Infamous First Light, as the developers wanted to create a new title that focused on melee combat. The 25-year-old hitmaker left songs like the wispy “Things” and infectious “Obsessed” in the past, trading them in for plucky anthems with hard-hitting productions. Her career well and truly took flight with her EP Paranoia in 2021, and her debut album Suckerpunch followed the following year.
She’s back again with her latest EP Headsplit, and Maggie delivers edgy, reflective songs reminiscent of acts like Evanescence across the 8-song tracklist. Fans in Los Angeles will have the opportunity to experience the project live in the coming months with two performances recently announced.
Ahead of that, we had the opportunity to catch up with Maggie to discuss Headsplit. She opened up about her evolution, touching on...

As fans awaited news of a Ghost of Tsushima PC port drop, PlayStation Studios delighted us all with an official announcement for the same on March 6th, 2024. And as satisfied as many of us are with exploring the potential of the PC port, there still looms another question Sony and PlayStation are yet to answer- When are we getting Ghost of Tsushima 2?
With no official announcements from Sucker Punch or PlayStation, fans can only speculate that Ghost of Tsushima 2 is underway, given the latest news of the PC port and old job listings that fit the description of an open-world game. But it seems very likely that a sequel is underway. With Ghost of Tsushima having ended on such an explorative note, players eagerly await an expanded open-world traversal.

It’s hard to believe that “The Masked Singer” is already up to season 11. This edition of the reality competition show kicked off on March 6 and the premiere was packed full of surprises, culminating in the unmasking of the Book. He turned out to be funnyman Kevin Hart.
While Hart played it for laughs when he sang “So Sick” by Ne-Yo, the other four celebrities on “The Masked Singer” premiere are all hoping to make it through to the finals in May. The best singer of the bunch based on those first performances is Goldfish.
We’ve watched Goldfish cover of “Vampire” by Olivia Rodrigo. And we’ve taken another look at her clues package. We think we’ve cracked the code as to Goldfish’s true identity. Keep reading as we have all your “The Masked Singer” spoilers, including the answer to the question, “Who is Goldfish?”

Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Tsushima was one of the best games to come out in 2020, winning Best Art Direction at The Game Awards of that year. The samurai epic, a love letter to Kurosawa movies, followed the tale of Jin Sakai as he sought revenge against and freedom from the Mongol hordes invading his island of Tsushima.
With a solid narrative, background score, and gorgeous graphics, Ghost of Tsushima became one of the reasons to own a PlayStation. For fans who were left wanting more, we now have some good news! We may be taking up the blade as Jin once again if rumors pan out to be true.

Carla Gugino is amazing. From her early days co-starring with Pauly Shore in Son-In-Law to indies with her partner Sebastian Gutierrez, including Electra Luxx and Women in Trouble, Gugino has shirked the traditional path many Hollywood actresses have taken. The result is a career full of unique work on the big screen and small including work with filmmakers like Robert Rodriguez, Mike Flanagan (Gerald’s Game), Zack Snyder, Ridley Scott (American Gangster), and more. Her series work with Mike Flanagan has included an array of roles in The Haunting of Hill House and Bly Manor, as well as her recent turn in The Fall of the House of Usher, which garnered Gugino her first Critics Choice nomination for Best Actress in a Limited Series or Movie Made for Television.

Created in 1938 by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster, Superman may not have been the first costumed crime fighter of the comics world (Lee Falk's "The Phantom" hit the funny pages two years earlier), but he quickly became the exemplar of the American superhero — due in large part to the timing of his arrival.
After the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor compelled the United States to officially enter World War II, kids were desperate to believe the world wasn't on the verge of becoming a fascist hellhole; and people were well aware that, to avoid this outcome, hundreds of thousands of young Americans were going to get blown to pieces on foreign soil. So what was the harm in occasionally escaping to a fantastical alternate reality in which a morally righteous alien (i.e. immigrant) continually thwarted the will of evildoers like Lex Luthor?

There's no denying that Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire, which follows a pair of farmers as they seek aid from fighters to make a stand against the space imperials who would rob their village of its harvest, is derivative of other films. Beyond the fact that the film is an obvious Seven Samurai and Star Wars fusion, there's also the fact that Battle Beyond the Stars did the same thing more than 40 years ago. But does that really matter? And if it does, why can't it be a good thing? Like Sucker Punch more than a decade ago, A Child of Fire feels like a playground for story writer/director Zack Snyder to mix and match elements from things he loves...

Zack Snyder is a pop-fantasy filmmaker who now has a fanboy cult around him. In the two decades since Snyder made his feature directorial debut with the grainy unsettling 2004 reboot of “Dawn of the Dead,” his flamboyant fusion of visual wizardry, technological fixation, and kick-ass spirit has made him, at least in some quarters (read: the Comic-Con and video-game demo), a creative hero for the Age of Escapism. Fans who grew up feasting on such Snyder extravaganzas as “300,” “Watchmen,” and “Sucker Punch” then saw his much-ballyhooed entrée into the DC comic-book sphere marked by ambitious but maligned misfires. Yet in 2021, the release of “Zack Snyder’s Justice League” — his uncut and quite extraordinary version of the movie that Warner Bros. had tapped Joss Whedon to mangle into an “audience-friendly” product — was a vindication that also marked a new peak of reverence for the Snyder cult.

From his fresh and inspired “The Dawn of the Dead” remake to his panel-for-panel adaptation of “300” and the fetishistic pastiche that he packed into his “Sucker Punch,” Zack Snyder has always been as much of a cover artist as he is an iconoclast. To his fans, Snyder is a sacred defender of the seriousness that Hollywood used to strip-mine from the geek culture it mulched into mass entertainment. To his critics, he’s blockbuster cinema’s first example of the A.I. image generator as auteur: Plug in some nerd-ass variables — zombies, Batman, sexual violence as character motivation, etc. — and watch him churn out a hollow but hopelessly self-impressed digital rendering of a favorite story or familiar trope that’s been sucked dry of its most basic lifeforce.

He might not get his wish, but Zack Snyder is keen to shoot more footage for a Sucker Punch do-over.
I know one person precisely who’s a massive fan of Zack Snyder’s 2011 movie Sucker Punch. I know lots of people who are, well, less keen.
Amongst the many films that Snyder has made, it’s the one that’s got the worse reviews (now that Justice League has been sorted out anyway). It’s also the one that’s hit the most disappointing levels at the box office too. You could be forgiven for thinking that Zack Snyder would just walk away from it, and get on with his myriad of other projects.
But that, chums, is not the Zack Snyder way. His new films, the two Rebel Moon movies, are arriving with extended cuts pretty much built in. Now, he’s talking about Sucker Punch also getting a revisit.

Zack Snyder usually has a grand vision for his films, and a lot of his titles have been able to see an extended director’s cut released. After much demand for many years from his fans, the long-anticipated Snyder cut of the Justice League even got to see the light of day despite some scenes that had yet to be filmed. One of the director’s earlier titles is the action film Sucker Punch, which saw an ensemble cast of characters embark on a fantasy adventure that takes place in the mind of an institutionalized girl and her vision of escaping the facility she’s trapped in.
Snyder’s stylized film has its share of fans, and while not as numerous as the DC devotees, some are still holding out for hope that a director’s cut of the cult film is in store for the future. Collider reports on...

A couple days ago, the Netflix streaming service unveiled the first trailer for Rebel Moon Part One: A Child of Fire, the first part of director Zack Snyder’s two-part sci-fi epic, which they will be releasing on December 22nd. Now Netflix has also uploaded a video where Snyder spends almost 9 minutes breaking down the moments in the trailer. You can watch the trailer in the embed above, and check out Snyder’s trailer breakdown at the bottom of this article.
Snyder has always been open about the fact that he’s hoping “a massive IP and a universe that can be built out” from the foundation of Rebel Moon. He crafted the story for Rebel Moon with 300 co-writer Kurt Johnstad, and the pair wrote the screenplay with Army of the Dead co-writer Shay Hatten. The events of the two films, which draw inspiration from Seven Samurai, are set in...

Before Zack Snyder turned his sights to the DC Universe, he gave us Sucker Punch, a psychological fantasy action movie that was his first film based on an original concept. While the film was a box office and critical disappointment, it has developed a cult following over the years who have grown to appreciate the over-the-top fantasy, but Snyder believes he didn’t go far enough.
“Sucker Punch is probably the most obvious example of straightforward, pure satire that I’ve made,” Zack Snyder told Total Film. “And I still think I didn’t go far enough, because a lot of people thought that it was just a movie about scantily clad girls dancing around in a brothel. I’m like, ‘Really? Did you see Watchmen? That film is completely a superhero deconstruction from the drop, which is all Alan Moore. That’s the thing I’ve found really interesting and motivating throughout my career.

Like the previous Zack Snyder-directed Netflix epic, “Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire” will get a one-week pre-streaming theatrical engagement prior to its at-home premiere.
However, while “Army of the Dead” got a 600-theater release in May 2021, this latest sci-fi actioner will play exclusively in a few select 70mm auditoriums. Those wanting to see the Sofia Boutella-starring original in theaters can do so from Dec. 15 through Dec. 21 in Los Angeles (the Netflix-owned Egyptian Theatre), New York City (the Netflix-owned Paris Theater), Toronto (TIFF Bell Lightbox) and London (Prince Charles Cinema). It will drop Dec. 22 on Netflix.
The film, which was originally pitched, a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away (early 2013) as a Snyder-directed “Star Wars Story” that was essentially “The Seven Samurai with lightsabers,” stars Boutella as a fierce young woman tasked with finding warriors to fend off despotic invaders terrorizing her peaceful colony.

Maggie Lindemann has spent much of this year on a sold-out world headlining tour, but now she’s back with a new single called “deprecating,” featuring siiickbrain.
The hauntingly heavy track is perfect for Friday the 13th, with siickbrain’s eerie screams contrasted against Lindemann’s melodic vocals.
Regarding the inspiration behind the new song, Lindemann said, “‘deprecating’ is about being manipulated. It’s about someone who is constantly installing a false narrative in your head. You’re trying to live your own life, and they are just constantly installing a fear in you to keep you from living.”
The song is Lindemann’s first bit of new music since the release of her debut album, Suckerpunch, in 2022. At the time, she premiered the video for the punk-ish song “Cages” via Consequence.
A press release promises “more exciting news coming soon” and that “a new Maggie Lindemann era seems to be on the horizon.

“For as long as I can remember, I’ve had a thing for everything that is catchy – especially melodies you just can’t get out of your head. It doesn’t really matter what genre it is, as long as I wanna put it on repeat. No wonder I started making pop music! I’ve never really wanted to make one type of pop song, I just wanna write good songs. I’ve been writing and writing, and I felt like releasing one single this year just wasn’t enough, so I decided to put out an EP to show where I’m at now musically. I love the format: short and snappy, but enough time to showcase different sides to the songwriting, the story and the sound. Director Zack Snyder is a man of many words -- or, at least, a filmmaker who tends to err on the side of longer runtimes. As someone who required director's cuts to tell both "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" and "Justice League" to completion without compromise, fans shouldn't have been surprised to hear that his next original story would end up requiring more than one movie to tell.
"Rebel Moon," Snyder's epic space opera that is already confirmed for an R-rated extended cut, has all the makings of a bona fide franchise-starter. We knew that the film had ended up lengthy enough that it required the decision to be split into two separate installments, largely because Netflix's internal metrics strongly suggest that viewers tune out of any movie longer than 120 minutes. But what we didn't realize was that Snyder had already set up a natural way for the story to continue,...

A not-so-long time ago, in a Burbank studio, Zack Snyder pitched a "Star Wars" movie.
The year was 2012. Disney had just bought Lucasfilm, which gave the company the keys to George Lucas' blockbuster franchise. It was the earliest of days. Lucasfilm leader Kathleen Kennedy was taking meetings with every successful director in Hollywood, which led to a sit-down with Snyder. Snyder was at a critical juncture in his career: after delivering three relatively well-reviewed entertainments in "Dawn of the Dead," "300" and "Watchmen," the filmmaker had stumbled with "Sucker Punch," a wholly original action-fantasy about a group of young women who weaponize their imagination to break free of a mental institution.
Snyder was about to get off the ropes with "Man of Steel," but he sensed a world-building opportunity at Disney. His pitch was to take the "Star Wars" series back to its Akira Kurosawa roots with, as he recently told Vanity Fair,...

From the very first shot of Rebel Moon’s new trailer, you are clued into the idea that this is a Zack Snyder movie. Technically the image of a warrior’s hand drifting through fields of grain recalls another filmmaker entirely—with the imagery not-so-subtly echoing the first seconds of Ridley Scott’s own blood-soaked opera, Gladiator. However, Snyder already repurposed it once before in 300, and 16 years later he adds even more gravity to it in Rebel Moon, with the hand now gloved in severe-looking sci-fi armor (and helpfully juxtaposed with actor Djimon Hounsou).
We are once again at the intersection of Snyder’s favorite milieus: stories of sacrifice, mythological grandiosity, badasses doing badass-looking things, and now with a helping dose of Star Wars-adjacent space fantasy thrown in for good measure. By the time the trailer ends, fans are promised nothing short of the most Zack Snyder movie to ever unsheathe a sword.
