Yeah, so my 10/10 review is probably a bit bombastic. I'll be the first to admit.

But given the vintage of this episode and how incredibly well it is standing the test of time (irony?) I feel it deserves it.

Gene grandstanding, Sam smug as sin and a surprisingly unsatisfactory and anticlimactic comeuppance for someone on the team.

Tight writing, plenty of tension and the plot moves forwards (and upwards towards the superintendents for the first time.)

All in all, superb, intelligent television.
  • Warning: Spoilers
'Life on Mars' bounces back after a dud previous episode with this one, that looks at the topic of loyalty and how the coppers react when Gene Hunt is in the frame for murder.

It's a faster paced episode, with much more of a clearer story, and the performances as ever are great.

We are close to the end now, with more questions being asked than answers provided, but what a ride it's been.
