It's pretty clear the director was trying to go for visual kind of storytelling and a lot of the scenes were beautiful. The fighting scenes are choreographed decently, but the way they film them is unsatisfying, the cuts, and the edits, they do it better in WWE than they do in this film. Why can't directors learn more from movies like Upgraded or John Wick, stop putting 20 cuts in one fight sequence and just put 1 or 2, and make it flow well. Instead of trying to sell the hit of a punch with a camera cut, choreograph it well and film it well and you have a great action movie. We've been doing it since the 80's so I'm not sure why it's so difficult to do in 2023. The last fight sequence, when the character has its classic "power up at the last moment" he stands up, punches the opponent and wins the fight, but you don't even see the punch, it's just a weird camera cut that makes you feel almost, left empty.
  • And not even Aaron Eckhart is very good. Well, he is in a way but I sure do not believe in his character one bit. And the girl playing the Lady with tattoos is just plain a horrible actress. I think the only believable person / character is the Circus Director. The story is simple and the efforts to infuse this with "heartfelt moments" are just lengthy and tragic: In fact the whole middle part of the movie is more or less these slow and horribly boring heartfelt moments. The bare knuckle fighting that was advertised did not even try to be believable and in any case he constantly used brass knuckles.

The movie's alright. Nothing so special about it but also it's not bad either. Since it's not a blockbuster or whatever I didn't put too much expectation on it so I feel like it's a decent one to just casually watch. Of course you are not getting crazy deep thoughts out of the movie. It tells a story and that's it, which for me is easy to understand (I haven't read the book, though).

There was action and fighting which I think was good enough with some being really nice, still I do need a little bit more action. The emotions were there and I appreciate that they tried to establish something but for me it's quite a bit over the top as it seems there was only a way to show the emotional connection so it kinda gets repetitive over time. Apart from that, everything else was fine, the characters had their roles, the color and lightning in some scenes were good which pleased my eyes.

Aaron Eckhart did his job well as always. The child actor (Michael A. Waycaster) was pretty good.

Solid 6.5 for me but props to some really nice scenes I'll give it a 7.
  • Jack Boucher (Aaron Eckhart) is a bare knuckle fighter struggling with hallucinations after years of underground fights. He gets kidnapped by a lowlife for his large debt to Big Momma Sweet (Marianne Jean-Baptiste). He manages to crash the truck and escape. A traveling carnival happens upon the crash site. Annette (Bella Thorne) is the tattooed erotica lady.

This is an amazing performance from Eckhart. The plot is a bit of a mess. I put half of it to the unstable mind of Jack Boucher. The other half is still a mess. There is some good atmosphere, but the plot construction is wrong. I actually watched this and Michael Farris Smith's other movie Desperation Road back to back. There is a connecting style between the two gothic southern crime drama. I like the style, but this writing is not good enough.
  • I really don't have much to say about this one but the fact that so many are giving it bad reviews is why I am writing this so that it can boost the ratings.

Like alot have said, it's not an A list movie. There's nothing extra ordinary here. It's just a simple story of an ex fighter turned drunk who owes big momma and has to find a way to pay back. That's it.

However, unlike most people, I think it's a beautiful picture. I loved most of the acting and there were a few moments of laughter. I wouldn't say it's an amazing movie, but I won't rubbish it either. Just a good ol Sunday afternoon kinda movie.
  • The only good thing in this is Aaron Eckhart, he was actually believable. The story from the get-go was very loose and dodgy. It starts with Jack (Aaron Eckhart) waking up after a fight, his memory is not very good and he has debts, so he's got to fight, sounds familiar?

The supporting cast was terrible, the editing and the dialogues were horrible, but I think for a low budget movie, it's what you can expect.

I'm not sure what someone like Aaron Eckhart is doing here, he was the Two-Faced Harvey in Nolan's Batman. I guess the times are really tough for him because all of his recent films are like this, crap.
  • I always been a fan of Martial Arts movies so when i see a new one release i try to watch it as soon as possible. When i saw Aaron Eckhart in the main role, i was a bit surprised tough as the guy is not really known to do martial arts movies.

Turn out the movie is more of a drama but it does have some fairly brutal and entertaining fight. Yet if you tune only for the fights, you may get disapointed as they are not numerous enough for a fight movie fan. Think of it more like that Tom Hardy movie call Warrior. A drama about a character set in a fight background.

Aaron Eckhart's character Jack is a very broken man and the first half of the movie is a bit dark and hard to follow at times. You wonder where this is all going but the second half make a lot more sense and i dunno what it is with Bella Thorne, but every time i see her in a movie i feel she bring a lot of charisma and get me hook to her characters, even if she rarely in any big movies or huge roles.

Overall this was an interesting movie wich i enjoyed watching. I don't think the replay value is there to watch it again so i would recommand a rental instead of a purchase, but its definately one worth watching once. If the first 40-45 minutes confuse or bore you a bit, give it a chance and stay for the rest, its worth it.
  • Warning: Spoilers
I just recently watched this movie. Writing was weak. Didn't think too much of the movie tbh, predictable, washed down plot, with a scene at the end where the MC is about to lose but suddenly pulls one out of the hat. It was hard to watch the whole thing. Guy has some weird creepy relationship with his mother. I only finished it because of how poorly the different plot points come together in the most rushed, ridiculous and completely unrealistic fashion that it became funny. If DC ever makes a Wildcat movie Eckhart would be my first pick, he would also be amazing as Sam fisher or Gi Joe. The movie is so weak and bad sorry.

    Warning: Spoilers
Plot Spoilers. Jack Boucher (Aaron Eckhart) is normally pronounced "butcher" because he is a bare-knuckles fighter for cash. He makes money by both winning and throwing fights. Some love him while others don't. We see him left at the doorsteps of St. Joe's as a child. He loves his ailing foster mother very much and her home has been in foreclosure throughout the entire film. Jack takes his winnings and plays red-black on the roulette table and manages to get enough money to pay off Big Momma (Marianne Jean-Baptiste). He loses the money on the way and a Bella Thorne who plays a tattoo carny finds his wad of money. She is looking to find out who her real father is. Have you got the happy "Silas Marner" ending yet?

I will say Aaron went out of his way to play a partially brain-dead drinker/smoker/fighter/gambler. He did it well. The film has flashbacks. I am not sure why. It was one of those films that you knew what was coming and you were bored along the way until the film got there.

Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity.
  • I knew this movies wasn't going to be some memorable movie from the get go, however, the more i watched the more i enjoyed only because of Eckhart's acting.

The plot is simple! There's no explanation of how aaron has turned out this way. No complexity.

The daughter role is bland, how they meet is so bad written. Nothing special here! Only Aaron's acting! How he walks, talks, sheds tear.. i could feel his mental and physical pain. The way he stumbled, the weakness in his muscles. Never looked at him this way, as a good actor.

A great forgettable movie! This is how i would review this movie without spoilers.
  • It's a movie that has a mediocre plot and doesn't promise anything to the audience. A more emotional drama could have been created with this subject. Characters pattern comedy. It is not taken seriously. Still, for those who are interested in fight movies like me, it is watched with curiosity until the end.

There is a man who was abandoned by his mother in his childhood, later abandoned by his adoptive people, and only one woman gave him love in every situation. This guy is trying to make money by fighting for something or at the gambling table. He tries to protect the money he earns at the expense of his life. But sometimes his memory fades and he loses the money. The reason he's so worried about money is that he sold his mother's house so he can get it back. Like a little child, the man still longs for the woman he calls mother. I'm telling you, a much more dramatic movie could have been made.

There is no nudity in the movie, but there is some light sexuality.
  • So I see that my first review that I did of this rubbish movie got deleted. I wonder if this review will also be deleted.....

Most likely it was reported by the rubbish people who have given high ratings to this rubbish movie, the fools who have been involved in making this rubbish. So very pathetic of the filmmakers to take down my honest review.

Aaron Eckhart is a fun comedy actor, he has shown this countless times over the years. But that is not enough to be able to save this rubbish.

The movie is predictable, boring, the actors are talentless, the script is laughably bad.

I want to warn everyone not to watch this movie. Don't torture yourselves by wasting time on this useless movie.
  • The cage fighter Jack "The Butcher" Boucher (Aaron Eckhart) is a loser, who was raised with love by his foster mother Maryann (Amanda Saunders) in the Mississippi. Presently he owes US$ 12,000 to the dangerous booker Big Momma Sweet (Marianne Jean-Baptiste) and US$ 30,000 to the bank since he sold Maryann's real estate. She is now an old woman (Jeanne Caldarera) with dementia at a nursing home, and he has promised her to bring her home. Jack receives an amount in a fight that was a fix, bets the money in a casino and raises US$ 12,000 to pay Big Momma. However, the small-time criminal Skelly (Joe Hursley) sees Jack and tells Big Momma, who promises to quit his debts if he brings Jack to her. He asks for a ride to Jack, and near to a cornfield he tries to kidnap Jack and steal his money. Jack reacts and his truck has an accident, and Jack completely dizzy leaves the man and the truck in the cornfield. Meanwhile, the owner of a carnival, Baron (Ritchie Coster), sees the truck in the cornfield and stops his crew. He sees Skelly dying and his attraction Annette (Bella Thorne) finds the envelope of money. The mechanic Ricky Joe (Mike McColl) peeps the scene and becomes curious to know what Annette has found. When Jack wakes up in a bar, he returns to the cornfield and finds that he was stolen. Now Big Momma wants him to fight the huge Ax (Derek Russo) to pay his debts to her.

"Rumble Through the Dark" is a depressing drama about the life of a cage fighter that could have been better and better. The performance of Aaron Eckhart is magnificent and did not deserve this awful screenplay. The beautiful and hot Bella Thorne is another attraction of this movie. The story in an ambient of losers and small-time criminals is melancholic and indicated only for specific audience. My vote is five.

Title (Brazil): "Rumble Through the Dark"
  • We have Aaron Eckhart as a dimwitted drunk so called fighter. Then there's Bella Thorne who apparently hasn't skipped a buffet lately but has the skin of an addict playing a carny. She's apparently cast just to show her cellulite.

Nothing and I truly mean nothing happens for 90 minutes except depression. Aaron Eckhart looks like he's aged 20 years in the last 5. What happened to him... A former A lister now doing B movie dreck and looking like an AARP member.

This is honestly abysmal. At least it was free on Tubi. I would rather clean my cat's litterbox with my tongue than watch this again...
  • A gritty tour de force that marries the raw, stark landscapes of the Mississippi Delta with the shadowy intensity of film noir. Aaron Eckhart's embodiment of a bare-knuckle fighter with an MMA fighter's discipline is breathtaking. The fight scenes were much more impressive then any other movie with fighting that I can recall recently. Great job by the actors and the directors for taking that extra effort to make it really look like a fight!

Bella Thorne's portrayal adds a layer of emotional depth that's as vast as the Delta itself. The final fight is a cinematic explosion that will leave audiences in awe.
  • I was lucky enough to watch this movie in the theater and loved it so much that I am pre-ordering it on Apple as well.

I read the book, 'The Fighter' by Michael Farris Smith who also adapted the story into the screenplay and I was an instant fan. So getting to see that incredible book turned into a movie that was also written by the author was such a pleasure.

This is by far, Aaron Eckhart's best performance! He is Jack Boucher from the very first frame to the very last.

Bella Thorne also blew me away with her portrayal as a beautiful, tattooed, traveling carnie that gets caught up in the choices made by Jack Boucher.

    A really beautiful movie!!

Having lived some of that life, myself, I thought this picture was an extremely accurate glimpse into what that life is really like. It was a very poignant watch for me.

Rumble Through the Dark was very passionate with their subject, and with their telling of this story.

Aaron Eckhart did a superb job playing his character. I never knew he could be capable of that range. His portrayal of this character was so remarkably well done, it was almost enough to make me forget about the story, in order to just sit in awe of his performance.

All I can say is, well done. A very compelling movie. One I'll no doubt watch again and again.
  • We have all fallen short of glory. Some of us have done it in front of parents and disappointed them. Aaron Eckhart as Jack has a scene with his mom that will forever haunt me because I felt this way before And it pulled a couple of tears. You just hope you can stand back up and make them proud. The physical demands of his character lead me to wonder if he actually was doing all of his stunts and if he walked away unscathed. Marianne aka Big Momma is a classic underworld boss and is ruthless but it's not personal. Bella Thorne is a natural in any role she portrays. Russo as Ax is like the incredible Hulk meets WWE. He was the perfect crescendo to this well written and directed thriller.
  • Warning: Spoilers
Interesting story and unconventional setting in the Southern United States. Quality casting decisions that defy assumptions and put the lie to judging based on one's color or one's past. Insightful and illuminating on the topic of darkness in this world--such as degeneration, disease, and death--and, upon reflection, suggestive of the Light we need to carry us through. Perhaps a welcome commentary on scourges ravaging the country today, including opioid addiction, dementia, and violence. Arguably a bit too bloody/violent at times, but also arguably part of the story to be told. Of course, based on Michael Farris Smith's "The Fighter"
  • If you thought this was just gonna be yet Another MMA movie with the same old storyline, you are in for a surprise! Eckhart delivers an incredibly powerful and Convincing performance in this heart wrenchingly sad role...He literally altered not only his speech and mannerisms but his posture and how he carried himself along with doing some hardcore fight scenes very well.... He plays a man whose lost his way and himself, remaining but a shell ...Someone who abused himself and also was abused by the world he was drawn into...Beautifully shot and the cineomatography Really draws you into his world...This is not ur typical MMA by the numbers story..It looks like it took alot out of him as the lead actor and that the man poured his soul into the role...Certainly different, yet Very intense, high action scenes with a deep and moving storyline and some superb acting by Aaron whom is almost unrecognizeable in character..

What the #uc% is up with the low rating!!!? This was one of the best films I have ever seen! Eckhart is epic in this. His acting is well underrated. Shame on you %ic£heads for the score on this. Anyone that rated under 8 should be ashamed. Im going to watch it all again now so I can pretend I'm punching you all in the face!

And what is with this requirement of lettering for a review? I'm literally having to write random stuff to fill this so I can post my actual review from five (5) minutes ago!

Anyway besides the absolute @oc@s that don't know a brilliant film when they see it, I hope everyone else enjoys it 😁
  • This was wonderful ! What a great way to film this to . What a character this actor becomes and actually looked better in the fight scenes then some of the more well known actors not mention a decade younger these dudes need to get on the boat and take take note with Eckhart the crazy good accurate representation he showed was amazing and basically just kickass. The acting was great, the cast was near perfect and not gonna name names here .. I would say the storyline and general direction of the movie and its pace was very well done . But man did I enjoy this one and I hope this crew who made this get better too. !!
