  • I never watched Big Mouth so I have nothing to compare this to, but this is a funny and actually somewhat deep show on some levels. If you are a person who doesn't like crude humor (Very sexual in nature) this is NOT for you, and you shouldn't watch it and whine about it. STAY AWAY, you have been warned. I had fun with it.

This concept makes a lot of sense to me. I like the franchise and now that the kids have mostly completed their character arcs, the show should go on but now focusing on the most fascinating part: the world building.

I love all the personifications of our emotional needs and this vision of how every person has a teem of spirits to help them navigate the world. The joke is partly that each of these spirits have their own issues to work out if you hadn't noticed.

I wonder if it all mightn't be better if the main focus were the lives of a few humans and the Magic Team was a fun visualization of our neuropsychology but I suppose we already got that with Big Mouth.

A bit hit and miss: they recycle some basic ideas with more than a little smugness, some of which I have reviewed in detail. We have passed the point in which defending new Mothers who don't like their children is subversive, people!

I liked the inclusion of characters glimpsed in BM, like that transexual kid and her family.

Ultimately this show, though not exactly a masterpiece or a sure thing, did have a lot of personality, humor and eventually a lot of pathos.

I would say if you lost interest in Big Mouth before the 5th season then do not bother otherwise, go in with realistic expectations.
  • I was not convinced at first, expecting the confused pubescent children to show up since they were the ones to supply the laughs. But once you get into the nitty-gritty of it and understand the roles of the hormonal and emotional monsters, you realize that this animated series deals with serious adult issues, from motherhood to dementia, all in good humor (without receiving a slap in the face for it)...
  • Damn those kids got on my damn nerves. The monsters were the best part of the original show and are the best part of this show. I don't know where they're gonna go from here but it's very entertaining on the first episode alone so I'm very hopeful of it being renewed 5 times like the original. The cast is absolutely amazing and refreshing as is the writing. Thank you Nick Kroll and Andrew Goldberg!!
  • I don't mind crude humor and I love Big Mouth, but if you don't like that kind of humor this is definitely not the show for you. Some of the other reviews complain that the characters aren't likable, but I actually enjoy when the characters are unlikeable (like Arrested Development, It's Always Sunny, etc) so I didn't mind, but by the end of the season we definitely start to see the beginnings of some character development. The show definitely falls short in some places and goes a little to the extreme even for a Big Mouth spin-off, but the second half of the series has lots of good, even touching moments. I agree with the reviews that compare it to a raunchier, adult version of Inside Out. I thought the last episode was over the top with gore which was completely unnecessary to the story and did not make for any good jokes like it was attempting to do. It definitely falls short in a lot of places, but there is still potential for it to find its footing if it gets renewed for more seasons.
  • Once I figured it all out, the show is a laugh a minute.

    It's hilarious and irreverent.

Basically, take all the human emotions that there are, make them individual characters along with similar work mates and have them advise humans.

    What could possibly go wrong?

I hate to admit it but my faves are the sex bugs or whatever they are, the logic guy and the love bugs. Honorable mention to the Corp. Owl.

The show is too funny. Moves quick and steals your attention away.

Before you know it, along comes another fun episode.

    Great escapist humor.

This show is so overrated. If you liked big mouth you would like this too. Watch it without your brain and it'll be funny. Although some parts of this is funny just not one of my favorites to watch. Just don't understand the high ratings on this one. It is just an ok show to watch. Not for young children due to the swearing and there is a lot of it.
  • I have always loved Big Mouth, but Human Resources is truly an excellent follow-up. Despite a somewhat rough start, the show really finds it's footing by the end, and makes for quite an unexpectedly emotional ride. I cried so hard watching episodes 8 and 9, both of which were absolutely fantastic episodes. I enjoyed the callbacks to the original show as well, especially with Natalie (the trans character from season 4) who I was dying to see more of, and of course John Mulaney as Andrew. The show is also just really funny at times too, and yes crude, but that'd to be expected of course. In the end, it may not satisfy everyone, but I really enjoyed Human Resources and am looking forward to see more in the future.

I'm going to be honest. This is way better than the Big Mouth series. This series is full of swear words, like really a lot. I don't find this funny, not at all. Everything in this universe is so gross.

I genuinely wish I was dumb enough to enjoy this humor. If you're looking for a show that is remotely funny, look elsewhere. If you are looking for a show that will make you question why Netflix keeps pushing out horrible animated comedies, look no further.
  • Just finished bingeing the show with my family and I'm happy to say that Human Resources lives up to the hype and expectations set in place by its direct predecessor! Shifting the focus away from the school-aged shenanigans of Big Mouth, Human Resources instead takes us behind the scenes of some new adult characters and into the daily professional and personal lives of the monsters that make their lives possible. If you're up to date on Big Mouth, you'll quickly recognize some of this series'returning and regular characters, like Maury, Connie, Mona, Gavin, Tyler, and yes, Rick (the hormone monsters), Walter, Sonya, and Rochelle the love bugs, the Shame Wizard, Depression Kitty, and Tito the anxiety mosquito...and you'll be just as pleased to meet some of the new creatures like Emmy the love bug, Petra the ambition gremlin, Dante the addiction angel (flipping a common phrase on its head to humorous effect and voiced by the always-up-for-something-fun, Hugh Jackman), and Pete the logic rock, among many others including 2 new shame wizards voiced by the formidable academy award winners, Dame Helen Mirren and Lupita Nyongo. We are introduced to all of their quirks and responsibilities over the course of the freshman 10 episode season, with each episode following the familiar format of Big Mouth and showcasing the new roles, problems, and solutions that adult humans (as well as those of a few familiar returning teens) face with the aid of their individual teams of helpers.

Right away, we are faced with a crash and burn and a lingering mystery that isn't resolved until the back half of the season is coming into full view. It also sets the stage for some truly heartwarming and emotionally devastating, but satisfying, payoffs towards the end of the season and beyond. Episode 9 in particular, which follows the relationship between Walter and his elderly Lebanese client and the impact of her advanced age and deteriorating condition (as well as the effects of Alzheimer's on the afflicted and their family), was particularly poignant, smart, and incredibly moving. The show uses music to great effect for both serious and comedic moments and the song choice at the end of the aforementioned episode 9 is a perfect example. Human Resources really shines with the use of its celebrity cast, giving them lines you'd never hear them say in a live action film, and I have to imagine that *many* actors would jump at the chance to record such sex-positive and absolutely hilarious lines, especially the women who would likely never get a chance to be so filthy were this not an animated show. As always, the performances are brilliant and it's easy to forget that you're listening to certain actors because they become so engrossed in the characters that they're portraying.

At its conclusion, Human Resources has set the stage not just for more intriguing and heartfelt stories to come during its sophomore outing but for the next season of Big Mouth, as well. It will be very interesting to see how Kroll and Goldberg manage to weave together consistent and wide-ranging character arcs between 2 different shows within a constant universe but given that they've already done so with this season, and the fact that they've knocked each and every season of Big Mouth out of the park thus far, it would be foolish to bet against them doing so. These shows have a writing team that clearly has its finger on the pulse of what is funny, what needs to be said, and what can be left unsaid.

This was a great first season, that hit the ground running and never faltered in its sprint to the finish line. There are clearly LOADS (*pun intended) of new and interesting stories the writers have in mind for the series and as long as they maintain the same great mix of humor, brutal honesty, unflinching looks at the more depressing and sad aspects of life, and the brilliant representation of people from different genders, sexual orientations, and cultures, those of us who count ourselves as fans will have many, many more seasons, characters, and storylines to love.
  • Being that in today's PC world, you can still do raunchy comedy, disrespect the elderly beyond comprehension, and rant Aetheism in the animated format.

If one is a fan of this kind of comedy you have to know that at some point it's either overkill, shifts from funny to tasteless, or shifts to messy nonsense in the name of "originality".

After the summer camp season I personally felt that Netflix flushed its money on more seasons.

That being said the first season of this was mostly funny on an adolescent level dealing with the immaturity surrounding long term committed relationships in American Society since the 90s.

However note to Netflix, I don't recognize the voices alone of certain actors not renown for unique voices so spending money on them and bad original productions, instead of being the substitute for Blockbuster like you started as giving me new releases etc...you've contributed not to the elimination of TV but the elimination of descent original content.

How much talent in the world can be spread across networks, cable stations, studios, and streaming services.

And they want to price gorge instead of cut back.

Another issue with algorithm if I try Korean movies for a weak I shouldn't get flooded with Korean recommended viewing options.

This first season was fun refreshing, and a rare instance of a spin off being funnier than what it spun off from.

But to read reviews about how phenomenal Loud Mouth was...after 20 episodes it really wasn't funny just vulgar and repetitive.
  • 90% of the jokes are about sex. Its just a bunch of tasteless nonsense with no talent behind the delivery. Absolute garbage. It might amuse simple minds, but I've seen every single episode of Family Guy, American Dad, South park, etc... and this doesn't come close, Human Resources is just complete trash.
  • If you're fan of Big Mouth you should enjoy this spin off. The crudeness shouldn't be a surprise, in fact, it should be expected! Don't watch if you can't handle this type of humor!
  • I found this TV show quite entertaining and funny. It seems to me that big mouth is superior to this one but it is not far behind. I hope they can do more seasons and continue developing the characters.
  • Yes it definitely goes way to far but In a world that it can be hard to even speak out about anything , it's nice to not judge and just laugh at this for what it is a cartoon for adults that is just madness and if it's not your thing it's not your thing.

    Meh
Human Resources is the answer to the question of what would happen if you took all the children out of Big Mouth? The results are not great, but on the other hand they are not terrible. The conceit is that the imaginary creatures which are metaphors in the main show actually have an existence outside the lives of their children, and what they do is their career. So it's kind of like a combination of the Office and Big Mouth. Some parts are really funny like the family dynamic between Mort and Connie and their child and some parts are heartbreaking like the story of a woman who feels guilty for missing out the on the death of her mother, so she has pushed her father away. If you like Big Mouth, you'd probably like this, although it's not as good.
  • Warning: Spoilers
As someone who loves Big Mouth I may be a bit biased. Some episodes don't work as much as others but the show reminds me of like an Inside Out for adults. I cried four times lol. The episodes definitely got better throughout the season, so stick with it. Both Big Mouth and Human Resources are at their best when the story gets very real. Episode 6-9 were done well and I loved episode 9 was dedicated to Willie Garson and ended with Moon River playing.
  • Now hear me out. I don't care one way or the other how well the show does. But I really suspect that the high ratings are either done by fake reviewer's by people who haven't actually watched the show or it's people who have watched the show but want to support the show because they like to watch cartoons simulated sex ...because they are boys under the age of 13.

I say this because I actually really like the show this is a spin off of. And I actually thought it was a really good idea and I was excited to watch the season but I honestly had to give up by episode three. It just never got funny and it really turned into a bunch of weird u funny sex stuff . I thought each character represented a different aspect of humanity? But everything is just raunchy sex. I'm sorry what was the point of showing us the humanoid shame monsters mom having sex with the depression kitty? How is that relevant to anything? How is that even funny? It was Unnecessary. They just wanted to show a cat and a human having different kinds of weird sex. The other show is actually funny and relatable.

This has neither of those qualities. It's basically a giant monster orgy it's an excuse to look at cartoon porn. There are way too many characters and I don't like any of them not even the main characters from the other show. So as somebody who supports the original show and gets the humor and thought it was funny and relevant and even somewhat intelligent, I find this to be garbage. It's like the creators let their horny 12-year-old sons write it. I just do not get how anybody else thinks this is good or comparable to the original show?
  • The low scores from people who only watched 1-2 episodes are understandable but man, once you let the world building finish, it gets really good. Tackles some really intense and emotional content. Season 2 really hit some serious issues and handled them with charm and humor. The episodes dealing with grief and autism in particular were really wonderful. The sex stuff does come up often, but they do say humans think about sex every 8 seconds or so, soooo...... The show really finds it's footing in episode 4 season 1 and just gets better and better as it moves on. The voice cast was kind of spectacular too. I didn't realize they got so many big names as well.
  • Wish I had more to say it's just not as funny or memorable as Big Mouth. Most episodes are like this.......something vulgar.........something not funny........something cringe.......some character doing some terribly unfunny thing.........something decent......then something not funny.

    Funny
Beautiful and very funny series that has nothing to envy to the original product from which it comes out. This spin off manages to entertain and entertain at very high levels in an always irreverent and driven way, a kind of humor perhaps easy but particular and that distinguishes this series in a beautiful and peculiar way.
  • The series takes place in the Big Mouth universe and we learn the stories of many monsters, their experiences and their relationships with each other. The humor element in the show is extremely good and funny. It was nice to see the monsters that are the main characters in Big Mouth and learn their stories, as well as seeing and meeting new monsters. It's super fun to watch some of the monsters break the fourth wall like in Big Mouth and talk to us. If you like Big Mouth, I recommend you to watch this animation, which focuses on monsters rather than people in Big Mouth.
  • I decided to write this review after seeing that the show only has a 7.2 rating on IMDb. The show may be rough around the edges, and may seem "childish" on the surface, but it has a lot of depth if one takes an effort to look at what is going on. The show has chosen very concrete and serious issues that people struggle with in real life, life the work/life balance problem facing Becca after giving birth to a child along with the stress of taking care of a newborn baby. Even the issue of growing old/death is being dealt with in a mature way with the character that is living in a nursing home. All in all, serious issues being discussed openly with a lot of humor in the background to make it easier to digest.

Additionally, I think the show can give a new, comforting way of looking at your personality. To be specific, I think it's useful to look at your emotions as being in constant battle with one another. I find this comforting because it means that none of us are determined by our own worst impulses/thoughts. In other words, bad thoughts don't make you a bad person, as there are other parts of you fighting against them. It may not be original, I think "Inside Out" is doing something similar, but I haven't seen it, so this was my first exposure to the idea of "giving characters to emotions", and I found real value in that, hopefully I explained why.

It should also be mentioned that the show is extremely creative, both from the visual aspect (design of characters/sets), and from the musical aspect as there is a number of interesting and well-performed musical numbers throughout the show.

At any rate, I think this is a well-made show by smart, creative people that wanted to openly discuss serious issues (like mental health, sexuality) in order to get the audience to think about them, and hopefully learn something. For that, I think it deserves praise, and I hope it gets a chance for a second season.
  • The Big Mouth was funny and original with tons of clever jokes. The spin of, on the other hand, is just a weird animated porn thing whit cheesy jokes and no story at all. Dont even bother watching this.
