Emma Appleton (The Witcher) and Colin Morgan (Humans) star in the thriller series The Killing Kind, which has just been acquired by the Hulu streaming service… and if the show sounds familiar to you, like it’s something you might have seen while browsing the Paramount+ service, there’s good reason for that. As Deadline explains, “The Killing Kind was originally a Paramount+ Original and commissioned out of the UK. It was one of several local Paramount+ dramas that launched only to be yanked from the streamer overnight earlier this year, much to the ire of viewers.” The shows were removed from Paramount+ as the streamer sought to cut costs and shift to “favoring its Hollywood-style content.”
Now the show has a new home, and it will be available to watch on Hulu as of May 14th.

Viaplay’s first U.K. drama commission, “Rebus,” has gone into production in Scotland. The show has also added some new cast members including “Line of Duty’s” Lucie Shorthouse, Brian Ferguson (“The Ipcress File”) and Stuart Bowman (“The Serpent”).
They will join Richard Rankin (“Outlander”) as John Rebus, the much-loved character John Rebus from Ian Rankin’s bestselling novels.
“Rebus” tells the story of a Scottish police detective who “finds himself at a psychological crossroads,” according to the logline. “At odds with a job increasingly driven by corporate technocrats, involved in a toxic affair he knows he needs to end, and all but supplanted in his daughter’s life by his ex-wife’s wealthy new husband, Rebus begins to wonder if he still has a role to play – either as a family man or a police officer. Andy Samberg was living the dream of many young comedy writers when he nabbed an audition for "Saturday Night Live," but the work doesn't stop once you get in front of series creator Lorne Michaels. Samberg was already nervous to try out for SNL, but his anxiety mounted when producers threw a last-minute twist at the comedian just days before his callback.
Samberg's first audition was thoroughly prepared, although some bits were better than others. "It was more for me the audition was less about concrete bits that I was just nailing and more about sort of the vibe," he confessed on The Howard Stern Show. One piece of the audition that scared him was impressions. Everyone who auditions for "Saturday Night Live" is required to do some impressions, regardless of whether it's one of their strengths as a comedian.

Look, up in the sky! It's not a bird or a plane, but it's definitely one heck of a treat for fans of the big blue boy scout superhero. Superman may have experienced a bit of a rocky road in recent DC history on the big screen, despite an actor as capable and charismatic as Henry Cavill leading the action and even with James Gunn's promise that the immensely popular hero will be a "huge priority" moving forward. But even the biggest DC fans would have to admit that there's a certain ineffable charm to the original movies that first made audiences believe that a man could truly fly.
Christopher Reeve starred in four separate "Superman" movies, in addition to the special Richard Donner director's cut released for "Superman II," and now all 5 titles will be made available just in time for the 100th anniversary of Warner Bros., the...

‘Alex Rider’ Producer Eleventh Hour Sets ‘The Man In The Back Seat,’ ‘Payday,’ Expands Creative Team
Sony Pictures Television-backed Eleventh Hour Films have revealed two more projects in development and made a senior creative hire.
“The Man In The Back Seat” (working title) a series development from novelist David Peace (“Red Riding”) and actor-writer, Ted Reilly, is the company’s first foray into the original true-crime genre. Based on events documented in the book “The Long Silence” by Paul Stickler, who serves as a consultant, the series will follow the 1962 criminal case, where after the longest trial in British legal history, James Hanratty was executed for the murder of Michael Gregsten, and the rape and attempted murder of Valerie Storie.
Additionally, Eleventh Hour have optioned author and journalist Celia Walden’s thriller “Payday” for development into a series. “Payday” is a female-driven thriller set in Bwl, a property brokerage firm that sells properties to developers for millions where the protagonists decide to destroy the sexist golden boy of the firm.

Exclusive: Anthony Horowitz believes his upcoming Magpie Murders adaptation is “the first time I’ve really got it right,” and has stated he will no longer write on classic TV murder mysteries.

Timothy Spall will star alongside Lesley Manville in the Masterpiece, BritBox UK and Eleventh Hour Films adaptation of “Magpie Murders,” Anthony Horowitz’s international bestseller.
Spall will play detective Atticus Pünd in the mystery-within-a-mystery in “Magpie Murders.” In the story, book editor Susan Ryeland (Manville) sits down to read the latest manuscript written by her popular author, Alan Conway, the writer behind the popular Atticus Pünd mystery series. When she discovers that its final chapter is missing, she goes to Conway’s house only to find his dead body. The story goes back and forth between the cozy case Pünd was trying to crack and Ryeland’s investigation of what happened to Conway.
Horowitz, who created the BBC mystery shows “Foyle’s War” and “Midsomer Murders,” has adapted “Magpie Murders” as a six-episode series. Production begins next week in England and Ireland, and “Magpie Murders” will air on Masterpiece on PBS next year.

Exclusive: Sony Pictures Television-backed Eleventh Hour Films is gearing up to start shooting the second season of Anthony Horowitz’s spy thriller Alex Rider from the start of next year.
Sony is yet to officially confirm Season 2, but Deadline understands that the drama is slated to begin a 22-week shoot from January 25 in Bristol, south-west England.
This is slightly later than originally intended. When we revealed the Season 2 renewal in June, Eleventh Hour was hoping to get into production this year, but the pandemic has created widespread disruption to shoot dates.
Alex Rider’s first season was fully financed by Sony Pictures Television’s International Production and Worldwide Distribution divisions. Sony later sold it to Amazon’s ad-supported streaming service IMDb TV in the U.S. and Amazon Prime in the UK. It is not clear if Sony will go it alone again on Season 2, or if it will work with a co-production partner.

BBC and ITV-backed streamer BritBox is finalizing plans that will see the service roll out to 25 countries worldwide, with the footprint expanding across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, South America and Africa.
This will build upon the service’s success in the U.S. and Canada, where it has surpassed one million subscribers. The platform launched in the U.K. in November, and will be available in Australia later this year.
It’s still unclear exactly what additional countries BritBox will target.
BritBox has a large collection of U.K. programming, including “Shetland,” “Vera,” “Coronation Street” and “EastEnders.” The service has also launched co-productions such as “The Bletchley Circle: San Francisco,” “The Mallorca Files,” “There She Goes” and “The Bay.” Last week, the service announced a raft of original commissions, including “A Spy Among Friends” (Sony & ITV Studios), “The Beast Must Die” (New Regency Television and Scott Free), “Crime...

Alex Rider Season 2 is officially in the works at Sony Pictures Television.
Developed by screenwriter Guy Burt, and based on the bestselling book series by Anthony Horowitz (creator of U.K. WWII-era detective series Foyle’s War), Sony’s Alex Rider follows the titular teen (Otto Farrant), who discovers a family legacy in the spy game after his late uncle/adoptive father seemingly dies under mysterious circumstances. Subsequently recruited by MI6 subdivision the Department of Special Operations, Alex undergoes a transformative training process for a job that uproots his adolescent life.
The second season renewal of Alex Rider arrives, via Deadline, shortly after the TV series made its June 4 debut, specifically in the franchise’s homefront, on Amazon U.K. However, while it has yet to arrive in most countries, including the U.S., Sony is reportedly close to landing a deal for platforms in the U.S., Australia and China.

Exclusive: Sister, the UK production house run by Jane Featherstone that has recent credits including HBO and Sky’s Emmy-winning Chernobyl and BBC/Netflix series Giri/Haji, has won rights to Helena Merriman’s buzzy podcast Tunnel 29 in what I understand was a highly competitive situation.
Since launching in November on BBC Radio 4, Tunnel 29 has scored more than 3.5 million downloads. The series chronicles the remarkable true story of a group of students who dug a tunnel from West to East Germany, underneath the Berlin wall, to help people escape the Communist regime.
Hodder & Stoughton pre-empted rights to a book based on the series that creator Merriman is now writing, and screen rights to that are also part of the package acquired by Sister. The producer confirmed the deal but added that at this stage it was too early to say if it would become a TV or film project.

Exclusive: Sony-owned Eleventh Hour Films is doubling down on development to broaden its slate following its investment by the Hollywood studio. The producer has scored developments with the BBC and ITV on a slew of book adaptations after Sony Pictures Television acquired a minority stake in the Foyle’s War producer in September 2018.
The company is currently focused on a number of book adaptations including Alex Rider, which has been fully funded by the studio, classic British detective series Rebus and Whatever You Love from Apple Tree Yard author Louise Doughty.
Deadline can reveal that Rebus, which was written by Ian Rankin and follows Inspector John Rebus, a hardboiled Edinburgh cop with a tendency to bend rules, is in development with the BBC. The series is being written by Gregory Burke, writer of José Padilha hijacking thriller Entebbe. Rebus previously aired on ITV between 2000 and 2007 and was produced by Stv Productions.

Based on Philip K. Dick’s Hugo Award-winning 1962 alternative history, The Man in the High Castle considers the question of what would have happened if the Allied Powers had lost World War II.
Almost 20 years after that loss, the United States and much of the world has been split between Japan and Germany, the major hegemonic states. But the tension between these two powers is mounting, and this stress is playing out in the western U.S. Told through the lives of a collection of characters in various states of posing (spies, sellers of falsified goods, others with secret identities), The Man in the High Castle examines life and history as it relates to authentic and manufactured reality.
