This movie started surprisingly well. I laughed out loud for the first fifteen minutes or so - I thought it was smart, original and funny, but unfortunately it looses rapidly it's steam, and becomes some kind of light comedy about the world of art. I was disappointed but saw the whole film nonetheless, hoping it would regain some force. It didn't.
  • Dan Pierson has graduated from art school but nobody wants his art. It's not dark enough. He comes up with an unusual idea. He has to paint his mother nude. This is an indie of three friends from art school struggling to make it in the New York art world.

There is some good skewering of the art world. The only problem is that I don't really care about these characters. Some of that is probably the no name actors. A lot of it has to be my dislike of Dan's self-righteousness. If I actually care about these people, this would be a compelling watch.
  • Terrific acting and dialogue. This movie has some really funny scenes.
  • PAINT is an intelligent, fresh, fun look into the world of aspiring artists with a depth of story and characters that keep the viewer enthralled throughout. The film explores several themes: value & perception of value in art, integrity & corruption in the art world, and generational differences, all as it moves through unexpected relationships and the joy and challenges in each. See PAINT for the thought-provoking insight, but come away laughing at the sharp dialogue and situations. I loved every minute of this original new film!

This movie has clearly been underrated, such a nice one i highly recommend it!
  • My wife and I really liked this, especially watching it together. We stopped it many times to interpret what was going on, or even just to be like HFS, WTF just happened!

The casting was wonderful -- the characters really seemed to inhabit their skins and characters, some of them quite sleazily so. But even the sleaze was part of a fuller picture of the person.

This might seem weird but I am reminded of American History X. So many disturbing or surprising scenes from both movies stick with me, and will stay with me for a long time.

I'll watch this again one day, and will follow the actors with interest in their careers. I find myself rooting for them after this one for some reason.
  • In PAINT we have 3 young artist .. looking for inspiration and intellectual fulfillment through 'art'. The 3 young artist soon lean that the 'art world' is more about business than being truly creative and inspired.

Dan, Kelsey, and Quinn - the 3 artist are seeking inspiration thru suffering as taught by their professor. But they soon discover all the suffering will never inspire - inspiration comes thru imagination. And the art community is as heartless and greedy as anything else.

PAINT is a bit lacking in actor ability but this issue pales under power of the films plot! I was pulled into this story from the start - Dan is a disturbed boy, Kelsey thinks she can schmooze her way into what she wants, and Quinn has chosen to take a dangerous path via Dan!

    Watch this one!

As an art student about to graduate from Pratt, the alma mater of the gang, this film made me think and have a good laugh about what it means to be an artist. Great work from Mike Walker and John Wollman !
  • I really liked this movie. A great reveal or two; many funny scenarios and funny dialogue.

I wasn't sure what to expect; a friend recommended this to me. It was really funny and interesting. Great acting.
  • I'm an artist, so I was interested in seeing a send up of the art world. This movie cracked me up. From what I have experienced, it was pretty accurate.

David Patrick Kelly and Austin Pendleton in the same movie? Yo! This was a great movie for a rainy night in NYC.

This is a quirky and edgy film. I had a few belly laughs as well.
  • I've seen pretty much all of Mike's movies (became a fan with Chasing Sleep). This one is his best in my opinion.
  • In this pretty large cast, Olivia Luccardi stands out as Kelsey.
