Steve Carell is reuniting with Tina Fey and Universal Television.
The Office grad has closed a deal to co-star in Netflix’s The Four Seasons, the update of the 1981 Alan Alda feature film of the same name. The role reunites Carell with Tina Fey after the duo starred as a married couple in the 2010 movie Date Night.
Ordered straight-to-series in January after Netflix won the show following a bidding war after the conclusion of last year’s dual strikes, the adaptation was co-created by Fey and her fellow 30 Rock alums Lang Fisher and Tracey Wigfield.
Production on the series is slated to begin later this year. The original film, written and directed by Alda, revolves around three couples who take vacations together each season and explores the changes in the group dynamic when one of couples splits up and the man brings a much younger woman on subsequent trips. Hollywood stars Emma Stone and Lily Gladstone are easily two of the most popular actresses in the entertainment industry right now. In one of her recent interviews, Gladstone explained that they have the same fashion accessory: an Infinity Stones ring. The actress also revealed that they like to call each other infinity stones.
Emma Stone as Bella Baxter in Poor Things
The upcoming 96th Academy Awards is quite important for both of these stars as they have been nominated for the Best Actress Award at the event. Experts strongly believe that any one of these actresses will take home the prestigious award. Will Gladstone snatch Stone’s second Academy Award? Only time will tell.

BAFTA threw up plenty of surprises and snobs in their nominations lineups this year with Best Actress one of the most intriguing and head-scratching categories of the year. “Killers of the Flower Moon” star Lily Gladstone was snubbed while Annette Bening (“Nyad”) also didn’t make the cut. Both of those performers were nominated at the Oscars, however.
Instead, the BAFTA nominees for Best Actress are Fantasia Barrino (“The Color Purple”), Sandra Hüller (“Anatomy of a Fall”), Carey Mulligan (“Maestro”), Margot Robbie (“Barbie”), Emma Stone (“Poor Things”), and Vivian Oparah (“Rye Lane”). Stone is the obvious frontrunner and the thespian at the top of our BAFTA odds chart for this category but one name in that list sticks out as a potential challenger: Oparah.

Dana Carvey has returned to co-hosting duties on Fly and the Wall, his podcast with fellow Saturday Night Live alum David Spade, following the November death of his son Dex.
Fly on the Wall broke the typical interview format – in which Carvey and Spade interview comedians, many of whom have ties to SNL – to celebrate the occasion, delivering a special shorter episode titled “Welcome Back Dana!” On the episode, Carvey expressed his gratitude to everyone that reached out to show their support, saying, “If you’re listening to our podcast, you probably know about my family’s loss…I just wanted to say that the amount of outpouring online and emailing and people I still haven’t been able to call back is incredible.”

Tina Fey has set another series at Netflix — and will star in it as well as co-creating and executive producing.
The streamer has ordered a series based on the 1981 movie The Four Seasons from Fey and fellow 30 Rock alumni Lang Fisher and Tracey Wigfield. Universal TV, where Fey’s Little Stranger company is based, is producing the comedy. Netflix won a bidding war for the series, which was a hot property following the end of writers and actors strikes in the fall.
Alan Alda wrote, directed and starred in The Four Seasons, which followed three couples who take vacations together each season and the changes in the group dynamic when one of couples splits up and the man brings a much younger woman on subsequent trips. The film’s cast also includes Carol Burnett, Len Cariou, Rita Moreno, Jack Weston, Sandy Dennis and Bess Armstrong.

“Maestro” bowed at the 2023 Venice Film Festival on Saturday, September 2. The film, which tells the story of famed composer Leonard Bernstein (Bradley Cooper) and his decades-long relationship with Felicia Montealegre (Carey Mulligan), recently sparked debate over Cooper’s use of a prosthetic nose to portray the Jewish music legend. But what did journalists think when they finally got to see the whole film?
The film already has a MetaCritic score of 82 based on 15 reviews that have come out of the fest as of this writing — 14 of them positive and one of them classified as mixed, but none outright negative. Over on Rotten Tomatoes the film rates 95% fresh based on 20 reviews, which means only one review there was classified as negative.
Stephanie Zacharek (Time) says the film, which Cooper also directed, is “superb and deeply felt … This is a complex and sophisticated picture, the kind of grown-up love story we see all too rarely these days,...

The TV academy has honored voice-only performances since 1992, when six cast members from “The Simpsons” collectively became the first actors to receive Emmys for such work. The Best Voice-Over Performance category became an official non-juried one in 2009 and was then split into two categories in 2014: Best Character Voice-Over and Best Narrator. Harry Shearer (“The Simpsons”) was the former category’s first champion, having been nominated once before for the same series.
The 2023 Best Character Voice-Over ballot consists of 148 performances, which is down by 74 from last year. Seeking her third victory is Maya Rudolph, who plays Connie the Hormone Monstress on “Big Mouth.” Also in the mix are former winners Shearer, Hank Azaria (“The Simpsons”), Alex Borstein (“Family Guy”), and Seth MacFarlane (“Family Guy”).

Earth gets rebooted after a foiled alien attack leads to a second chance for humanity — if new President Matty Mulligan (Nat Faxon) can get out of his own way on Netflix’s new adult animated comedy, “Mulligan.” It’s from the creative minds behind “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” and “30 Rock” — co-showrunners Robert Carlock and Sam Means and executive producer Tina Fey — who are well-versed in strange second chances and unpredictable relationships.
“Mulligan” concerns a group of rag-tag survivors, including Mulligan (Nat Faxon), a dopey everyman from Boston; beauty queen Lucy (Chrissy Teigen), who has a mid-invasion fling with Matty and becomes First Lady; conniving Vice President Cartwright Lamarr (Dana Carvey); historian Simon Prioleu (Sam Richardson); military super scientist Dr. Farrah Braun (Fey); and imprisoned alien general Axatrax (Phil Lamarr).

Netflix's new animated comedy Mulligan wonders what it might be like if we could all start America over again. Would we do a better job or make the same old mistakes? Of course, in this story, America is being rebuilt because an alien invasion has decimated the globe, leaving barely over a thousand people on Earth. Into that leadership void steps a Massachusetts lunkhead named Matty and voiced by Nat Faxon — can this confident dope pull Washington D.C. out of the ash heap of global near-destruction? Maybe, but only in the stupidest way possible. Mulligan is an interesting concept with middling execution; its most intriguing aspect by isn't President Matty but his second-in-command, a Southern U.S. Senator named Cartwright Lamarr and voiced by the great Dana Carvey.

Mulligan is an animation series created by Robert Carlock and Sam Means.
A hilarious animated series with adult characters very full of short-temper, meanness and irony not too contained. Mulligan is one of those series that, with a silly plot, is dedicated to dishing out “justice and humor” everywhere with tons of irony, parodies and metaphorical slapstick for everyone and everything.
Remember when the Simpsons were outstanding, and Homer would just blurt out whatever came into his head? It gave rise to a whole saga of series from which Mulligan openly drinks, that animation for adults that has given such good results and that is still in great shape, with its mix of quick humor, intelligent and full of irony.
A parody of absolutely everything that comes its way, especially politics.
Well, as I said, justice and humor.

The ninth annual SeriesFest, an annual television-centric event held in Denver, kicks off Friday with a slightly abbreviated schedule in light of the writers strike. Per WGA rules, writers are not allowed to make “promotional appearances” at film festivals or at “For Your Consideration” Emmy events. Already, a number of FYC showcases have either been canceled, or continued on but with just a screening, no panel, due to the strike.
SeriesFest becomes the first festival to be impacted by the strike. This year’s event takes place from May 5 to May 10, which now happens to coincide with the early days of the strike. As a result, showrunners have opted out of a handful of panels, while screenings of many new and returning shows will now take place without talent/showrunner Q&As. It could be an early peak at the pivot that may have to take place with other upcoming festivals,...

Must-watch comedy series, eye-opening documentaries and an expansion of the “Bridgerton” universe are among the noteworthy additions to Netflix this month. May 12 sees the premiere of Jennifer Lopez’s new Netflix original film “The Mother,” in which she plays an assassin lured back in for one last job. And on May 23, the documentary “Victim/Suspect” examines how sexual assault victims too often get turned into suspects when they report their assaults.
“Queen Charlotte,” the “Bridgerton” prequel series, arrives on May 4 while a new season of Tim Robinson’s sketch series “I Think You Should Leave” drops on May 30. And if you missed the most recent season of the niche (but delightful) comedy series “Documentary Now!,” you can stream that on Netflix starting May 9.

Netflix recently announced it would be investing $2.5 billion into South Korean programming. Before Squid Game season 2 comes down the pike, however, the first seeds of that investment will bear fruit for Netflix in May 2023.
Netflix’s list of new releases for May 2023 is highlighted by the May 12 release of Korean series Black Knight. Set “in a dystopian 2071 devastated by air pollution,” this show will follow world-saving deliverymen known as “Black Knights.” Other international offerings this month include Japanese sumo drama Sanctuary on May 4 and Spanish crime thriller Muted on May 19.
Netflix’s domestic TV options this month include Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story on May 4. That will be followed by post-apocalyptic animated comedy Mulligan on May 12 and Arnold Schwarzenegger’s TV debut Fubar on May 25. And for those hoping for “triples,” I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson premieres on May 30.
On the movie side of things, Netflix has an unusually busy month.

In alien invasion films, you tend to see what happens during the invasion, typically with the humans fighting back and saving the day. But what happens the day after, especially after nearly everyone was wiped out during the battle? Well, if “Mulligan” is any indication, you hire someone completely unqualified as your President and then hope things work themselves out.

Do you ever sit and think about the early days of the United States of America when the office of the presidency was typically held by whoever was the greatest war hero at the time, and how that's a truly banana-pants line of thinking? Well, that's kind of the premise behind "Mulligan," the new adult animation series heading to Netflix from "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" co-creator Robert Carlock and writer Sam Means.
The show has been in the works since 2020, and centers on Earth after aliens invade (and destroy) most of the planet. Now, it's up to the survivors to rebuild society, providing humanity a second chance to do things better than were done before or watch as history repeats itself and humanity turns to crap again.
In the first of many baffling decisions, working-class Bostonian Matty Mulligan (Nat Faxon) is named the new leader after putting an end to the invasion.
