Exclusive: Prolific writer, playwright and director Sigal Avin, who created the Israeli psychological thriller series Losing Alice, has signed with CAA.
Avin created, wrote and directed the eight-episode series Losing Alice, which premiered in Israel in June 2020. Shortly after its debut, Apple TV+ acquired global rights to the neo-noir thriller as part of a co-production deal with Israel’s Dori Media in association with Hot. Losing Alice premiered on the streaming service in January to strong reviews.
Using flashbacks and flashforwards, Losing Alice tells the story of aging film director, Alice (Ayelet Zurer), and her growing obsession with a young screenwriter, Sophie (Lihi Kornowski), whose dark and troubled script appears more truth than fiction.
Avin also created, wrote, and directed That’s Harassment, a series of short films that depict the dynamic behind sexual harassment. The shorts launched on Facebook pre the #MeToo movement, and went viral. From there, Avin...

The CW has renewed “iZombie” for a fifth season and picked up five new series, the network said Friday.
Among them are the “Charmed” and the “Roswell, New Mexico” reboot starring Jeanine Mason. “In the Dark,” “All American” and “Legacies” were also ordered to series.
The new take on “Charmed” comes from “Jane the Virgin” alum Jennie Snyder Urman and was originally developed last cycle and passed on by the network, is described as a “fierce, funny, feminist reboot of the original series” and will center on three sisters in a college town who discover they are witches.

“Roswell, New Mexico” is based on the book series “Roswell High” by Melinda Metz, and is executive produced by “Vampire Diaries” and “Originals” Ep Julie Plec, who scored another pickup in her vampire spinoff “Legacies.”
See the official descriptions below.
“iZombie”
Olivia “Liv” Moore (Rose McIver) was a rosy-cheeked, disciplined, over-achieving medical resident who had her life path completely mapped out…until the night she attended a party that unexpectedly turned into a zombie feeding frenzy. As one of the newly undead, Liv is doing her best to blend in and look as human as possible. Based upon characters created by Chris Roberson and Michael Allred, and published by DC Entertainment’s Vertigo, iZOMBIE is from Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Spondoolie Productions and Warner Bros. Television, with executive producers Rob Thomas (“Veronica Mars,” “Party Down,” “Cupid”), Diane Ruggiero-Wright (“Veronica Mars,” “The Ex List,” “That’s Life”), Danielle Stokdyk (“Veronica Mars,” “Party Down,” “Cupid”) and Dan Etheridge (“The Carrie Diaries,” “Veronica Mars,” “Party Down”).
“Charmed”
After the tragic death of their mother, three sisters in a college town are stunned to discover they are witches. Soon this powerful threesome must stand together to fight the everyday and supernatural battles that all modern witches must face: from vanquishing powerful demons to toppling the patriarchy.
Jessica O’Toole and Amy Rardin write and executive produce with Jennie Urman, Ben Silverman, Carter Covington and director Brad Silberling. The project comes from CBS Television Studios in association with Propagate Content.

“In the Dark”
A flawed and irreverent blind woman is the only “witness” to the murder of her drug-dealing friend. After the police dismiss her story, she sets out with her dog, Pretzel, to find the killer while also managing her colorful dating life and the job she hates at the guide dog school owned by her overprotective parents.
Corinne Kingsbury will write and executive produce with Ben Stiller, Jackie Cohn, Nicky Weinstock, and Emily Fox of Red Hour Films. Michael Showalter will also executive produce and direct. The project comes from CBS Television Studios and Warner Bros. Television in association with Red Hour Films.
“Roswell, New Mexico”
After reluctantly returning to her tourist-trap hometown of Roswell, New Mexico, the daughter of undocumented immigrants discovers a shocking truth about her teenage crush who is now a police officer: he’s an alien who has kept his unearthly abilities hidden his entire life. She protects his secret as the two reconnect and begin to investigate his origins, but when a violent attack and long-standing government cover-up point to a greater alien presence on Earth, the politics of fear and hatred threaten to expose him and destroy their deepening romance.
Carina Adly MacKenzie will write and executive produce with Brett Matthews, Justin Falvey, Darryl Frank of Amblin Television, Lawrence Bender, KEvin Kelly Brown and director Julie Plec. The project is based on the “Roswell High” book series by Melinda Metz and comes from Warner Bros. Given that it was the first to wrap its season, it makes perfect sense that Warner Home Entertainment would unleash the complete second season of the CW’s iZombie on disc ahead of the superheroes coming in August. The 4-disc DVD set is coming on Tuesday while Warner Archive will be simultaneously releasing iZombie the Complete First Season and iZombie the Complete Second Season on Blu-ray.
The series is loosely based on the Chris Roberson and Michael Allred Vertigo series and is a quiet success, garnering solid ratings and reviews but without the sturm and drang of its fellow DC properties. In the hands of executive producers Rob Thomas (Veronica Mars) and Diane Ruggiero-Wright (The Ex List), they keep the mood light, the characters quirky, and the plots engaging.

With iZombie recently having concluded its phenomenal second season, many fans have probably been wondering when they will be able to add it to their shelves. On July 12, you’ll be able to view all 19 episodes of the sophomore season on either DVD or Blu-Ray, but there’s a catch: only the DVD set will find its way into retail stores, while the Blu-Ray will be released online via Warner Archive and can be purchased through Amazon and other such sites.
Furthermore, the first season will finally see a Blu-Ray release that very same day, which will also be available exclusively online. Fans of the show have been clamoring to see it in all of its brain eating glory on Blu-Ray since last year, so it’s good that WB came through. Olivia “Liv” Moore was a medical resident before she became a zombie, and she intends to continue working with human bodies at the coroner’s office… only now she’ll be eating them, too. Liv soon discovers that by eating the brains of murder victims, she can help solve homicide cases, bringing a whole new meaning to her living dead life. This is the start of iZombie, a new series that will air later this year, and The CW has shared a new poster that showcases three core characters.
The poster features Liv (Rose McIver) appropriately seated amongst jars of human organs in the coroner’s office. In the background on the left is Liv’s boss, Dr. Ravi Chakrabarti (Rahul Kohli), and on the right is homicide detective Clive Babineaux (Malcolm Goodwin).

Olivia “Liv” Moore recently joined the ranks of the living dead, but she plans to stay “normal” by taking a job at the coroner’s office, so she can secretly satisfy her craving for human brains. This is the start of iZombie, a new series that will air later this year, and The CW has shared the first two photos, along with new details.
“Olivia “Liv” Moore was a rosy-cheeked, disciplined, over-achieving medical resident who had her life path completely mapped out…until the night she attended a party that unexpectedly turned into a zombie feeding frenzy. As one of the newly undead, Liv is doing her best to blend in and look as human as possible. Her appearance now passes for “Goth,” with shockingly pale skin and nearly white hair, and her demeanor has gone from exuberant to exhausted.

“How do you keep law in a lawless town,” the question is asked. The 1889 H division of East London is the answer we are given; the antidote to the chaos of Whitechapel.
On Sunday the 30th January, BBC1′s Ripper Streets burst onto our screens; the first episode of an eight-part series of a Victorian age, police procedural set in London’s East End. It was a big weekend for Israeli TV formats. First on Friday, a drama based on the Israeli series Pillars Of Smoke became the first in-cycle drama pilot picked up by NBC. And then on Sunday another Israeli drama adaptation, Showtime’s Homeland, became the the biggest TV winner at the Golden Globe Awards with two statuettes, for best drama series and best actress Claire Danes. That caps several years of a building momentum for formats from the Middle East country with strong ties to the U.S. and deep connections in Hollywood. Exactly 3 years ago, the first of the current wave of U.S. adaptations of Israeli series, HBO’s In Treatment, landed 5 Golden Globe nominations, including best drama series, and won one, for best actor Gabriel Byrne. This year, Homeland converted 2 of its 3 nominations. How significant is the show’s best drama series win? Israeli formats got to...

The Walking Dead Season 2 premiere drew huge mobs of living, breathing Nielsen viewers on Sunday night, shattering a few records along the way.
The AMC series was welcomed back by 7.3 million total viewers in its 9 pm airing — a 38 percent surge over the show’s Season 1 average — with 4.8 million of ‘em falling into the coveted 18-49 crowd. That breaks a demo rating record for basic cable set nearly 10 years ago, AMC reports.
Walking Dead‘s delivery of 4.2 million viewers in the 25-54 demo likewise represents a new high for a basic cable series.

In Shondaland’s first sale outside of ABC, Shonda Rhimes’ ABC Studios-based company has landed a put pilot commitment at Fox for Wildwood, a 1980s dramedy written by Diane Ruggiero (The Ex List). Set in 1985 Wildwood, New Jersey, this coming-of-age dramedy centers on a wise-beyond-her-years teenager who poses as an adult in order to land a job at a popular bar on the Jersey Shore. Over the course of a summer fueled by romance, intrigue, and 80s music, she must balance her obligations to her chaotic Irish-Italian family with the new secret life she leads. ABC Studios and Shondaland are producing, with Ruggiero, Rhimes and Betsy Beers executive producing. This is the second period one-hour project Shondaland has in the works for next season. Of all of the parts of FX's "American Horror Story" that are difficult to explain, I'd have the most trouble summing up how Alexandra Breckenridge and Frances Conroy come to be playing the same character, complete with matching red hair and matching maid costumes. The red hair has created an instantly new persona for Breckenridge, who admits that she's recently had a string of "bubbly" roles on shows like "The Ex List" and "Life Unexpected" (plus a brief turn on "True Blood" this summer). On "American Horror Story," she's sultry, dangerous and mysterious, but definitely not bubbly. In August,...

Exclusive: Israeli formats continue to be a hot commodity. In a competitive situation, NBC has landed the rights to Israeli mystery drama Timrot Ashan, aka Pillars of Smoke, for Peter Traugott’s recently launched Ums-based production company to produce. Search is already underway for a writer to adapt the series created by Noah Stollman and Oded Davidoff, which is often referred to as Israel’s Lost. Described as Twin Peaks meets Northern Exposure meets Lost, the original Pillars of Smoke is an offbeat mystery series set in Israel’s remote, rural Golan Heights. When the members of a remote cult disappear leaving no traces behind, a police investigation slowly uncovers the darkest secrets of the region and its inhabitants, as well as a grander political conspiracy and environmental disaster from which the cult members are attempting to escape. Traugott will executive produce the NBC version with his development executive Rachel Kaplan.

John Corbett is headed back to Parenthood this fall.
Brittany Belt, meanwhile, is simply headed to the NBC drama.
The young actress, who has appeared on episodes of Castle and The Ex List, has landed the role of Emma, a friend of Haddie since seventh grade. Look for this character, according to TV Line, to take issue with her pal's relationship with Alex.
Haddie will be caught between a friend and a boyfriend on season three of Parenthood.

Parenthood is rounding out Haddie’s (Sarah Ramos) social circle this season.
Up-and-comer Brittany Belt (Castle, The Ex List) has been cast in the recurring role of Emma, one of Haddie’s best friends since 7th grade. Emma feels Haddie’s relationship with Alex (Michael B. Jordan) is preventing her from letting loose and having a memorable senior year.
Belt memorably guest-starred in last season’s late-night-spoofing episode of Castle as the intern shagging Tommy Bergeron’s ill-fated talk show host. She also recurred on The Ex List as the teenage version of Elizabeth Reaser’s Bella.

On the heels of a Season 4 pickup, "90210" has hired replacements for former showrunner Rebecca Sinclair. Taking her place will be former "Life Unexpected" executive producers Patti Carr and Lara Olsen, reports Deadline.
This will be their first showrunning gig, though they both have impressive resumes. The duo has collaborated as executive producers on "Private Practice," "The Ex List," "Til Death" and "Reba," among other shows.
Zap2it spoke with "90210" star Trevor Donovan about Sinclair's exit. "I think everybody's just curious to see which direction it's going to go in," he says. "We only have control over so much, and there's only so much you can or should worry about. I think everybody wants the best for the show, so the new showrunners will definitely be qualified and have the experience to send the show in the right direction."...

For many actors, getting cast as a series regular on a television pilot is a dream come true. But testing for the pilot can feel more like a nightmare. Picture this: You've made it through the pre-read, the callback, and the producer session. Your agent negotiated your rate and you already signed a "test deal"—your contract, should you get cast. You and a handful of others read for the studio executives. The studio chooses you and one or two others to test for the network. Now all that stands between you and the career of your dreams is a performance in a room full of network executives. No matter how confident you are, the pressure is enough to psych anyone out. Ally Lattman, former vice president of television development for Lionsgate, admits testing can be very intimidating. "At the producer sessions, we are usually sitting on couches, chatting and joking with the actors,...

Through two episodes of season two, we've complained that The Good Wife is crossing too much into soap opera territory.
The latest spoiler news regarding the drama doesn't really dissuade us of that notion: according to EW's Michael Ausiello, the series is casting for Cary's cousin, Molly. Cary will give her a tour of the University of Chicago... and she'll admit that she has feelings for him! Ewww.
Elsewhere, Elizabeth Reaser guest stars later this season as a love interest for Will. Let's see what producer Robert King has to say about her role:
“She plays a sports writer, and she and Will develop sparks in a way that Will hasn’t with any other woman except Alicia. We’re thrilled with [Elizabeth]. I’ve loved her since The Ex List. She’s doing an excellent job.”

We still haven't figured out why there's a question mark in the title of "Bethenny Getting Married?" -- spoiler alert: she does -- but there's no question that people were interested in the show.
The Bravo show's debut Thursday (June 10) became the highest-rated series premiere in the history of the channel, scoring 2.1 million total viewers. More than 60 percent of those viewers -- 1.35 million -- fell into the adults 18-49 demographic.
That was nearly as many people as tuned into "Bethenny's" lead-in, the "Real Housewives of New York City" Season 3 reunion show. It drew 2.24 million people, 1.47 million of whom were in the 18-49 demo.
- As a reward for surviving the shooting spree on the "Grey's Anatomy" season finale, Dr. April Kepner will be sticking around for a while.

The "Robot Chicken" gang is going primetime.
Fox has ordered a presentation and a script for an animated project from Seth Green, Matthew Senreich and Tom Root that is being produced by 20th Century Fox TV and studio-based Chernin Entertainment.
Separately, Peter Chernin's company has set up at Fox a darkly comedic drama from writer Diane Ruggiero.
Green, Senreich and Root's project, which uses family life and a high school as backdrops for a wide cast of characters, "will have an aesthetic familiar to viewers of Fox's popular animated comedies," said Green, an original cast member on Fox's flagship animated comedy, "Family Guy."
That is a departure from the trio's previous efforts, Adult Swim's "Robot Chicken" and "Titan Maximum," both of which are done in stop-motion animation.
"But (the Fox comedy) will still have the comedic sensibilities of our other shows," Root said.

NBC has been struggling of late to find its identity as an entertainment programming network. With so many of television's best shows now appearing on cable channels (some of which are admittedly owned by parent NBC/Universal), the major networks have faced an increasing challenge to develop intriguing dramatic television, also facing as they do increased competition from video games, Internet downloads and other forms of entertainment.
But it's been hardest on NBC, which went through a serious staffing shakeup last December, searching for new blood and fresh ideas.
Has it worked? It's still too early to tell. Perhaps the most intriguing new offering from NBC is Day One, a futuristic drama from Heroes writer-producer Jesse Alexander. Soon new battles will wage in primetime: ABC's hit thriller "Lost" against Fox's new crime drama "Lie to Me" on Wednesday. NBC's comedy favorite "The Office" vs. Fox's reality hit "Hell's Kitchen" on Thursday. And Fox's sci-fi drama "Dollhouse" competing with CBS' Canadian import "Flashpoint" on Friday, to name a few.
Below are some of the most intriguing new time-period face-offs on the midseason schedule, along with predictions on which show will emerge as more popular with viewers.
These are not the easy calls (you can probably figure out who will win the Wednesday duel between "American Idol" and "Knight Rider"), but the potential squeakers that could tilt the odds on a series' chance of survival and its networks' overall performance.
Some may wonder: In today's time-shifted, multichannel universe, does it still matter if Drama A airs in the same time period as Reality Show B?
Yup -- arguably more than ever.

One of the first casualties of the 2008-09 TV season was CBS' The Ex List. Thought the romantic drama didn't attract enough viewers for the network's liking, the TV show did have a devoted group of fans. Would Bella ever have found "the one?"
The Ex List follows the tale of Bella Bloom (Elizabeth Reaser), a young, single woman who has a strange encounter with a psychic (Anne Bedian). Bella's told that she's already dated her true love and, if she doesn't get married within a year, she'll end up alone. After a freak occurrence proves that the psychic knows her stuff, Bella starts a whirlwind effort to reunite with her past loves. Could it be Elliot (Mark Deklin), her most recent boyfriend? Helping her in her search are her sister Daphne (Rachel Boston), and friends Augie (Adam Rothenberg), Vivian (Alexandra Breckenridge), and Cyrus (Amir Talai).

After poor reviews and worse ratings, CBS has given up on the Elizabeth Reaser-starring vehicle The Ex List. The Friday night dramedy, based on an Israeli television series, was a creative problem for the network. Show runner Diane Ruggiero left the series when it was clear she and CBS couldn’t agree on a direction. Rick Eid replaced her but his efforts hadn’t aired in time to change its fortunes.
The series averaging just 5.3 million viewers, according to Variety, driving viewers away after its more successful lead in, The Ghost Whisperer, and keeping people away from Numbers. As a result, the show has been removed from the schedule with a rerun of NCIS in its place this week.

Fox took the lead in the ratings last week thanks to its World Series coverage, trumping competitors with its highest-rated week since May.
Airing four games between the Philadelphia Phillies and Tampa Bay Rays, Fox was up 44% from the previous week in the adult demo to overthrow previous winner CBS, though the latter still won the week among total viewers.
Sunday's Game 4 (15.5 million viewers, 5.1 rating/13 share in the key adults 18-49 demographic) was the highest-rated of the games, though collectively the games have scored 25% lower than last year's Boston Red Sox-Colorado Rockies World Series.
Fox also had a solid boost on the scripted front, with "House" (13.1 million, 5.6/15) posting its best number since its premiere.
That left CBS and ABC tied for second place, with ABC posting gains over last week, pulling its largest audience since premiere week. Sunday's "Desperate Housewives" (16 million, 5.8/13) was on top this round, with Thursday's "Grey's Anatomy" slipping a few pegs (14.5 million,...
Airing four games between the Philadelphia Phillies and Tampa Bay Rays, Fox was up 44% from the previous week in the adult demo to overthrow previous winner CBS, though the latter still won the week among total viewers.

CBS has made its first big schedule change of the new season and it's not a surprising one. The network has pulled its romantic drama, The Ex List, from the Friday night schedule effective immediately.
The Ex List tells the tale of an attractive single woman in search of a mate. Bella Bloom (Elizabeth Reaser) meets a psychic who tells her that she's already dated her true love. If she doesn't marry within a year, she'll spend the rest of her life alone. The show also stars Rachel Boston, Adam Rothenberg, Alexandra Breckenridge and Amir Talai. Though the premise sounds interesting on paper, the show hasn't found much love from TV viewers.
The show debuted on October 3rd and attracted 6.85 million viewers and a 2/6 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. On first glance, the results appeared to be positive because Ex List won its time slot. However, on closer examination,...

It would seem that Bella will never reunite with her one true love. CBS has pulled The Ex List from its Friday line-up effective immediately. To date, 11 episodes (including the pilot) had been filmed, so seven remain unaired. Despite debuting to decent critical notices, The Ex List has struggled in its berth between heavy hitters Ghost Whisperer and Numbers - both of which hit season highs this past week, while the Elisabeth Reaser-starrer sank to a low.
The Ex List premiered to 7.2 million viewers, which at the time was an "Ok" 77 percent retention of the Ghost Whisperer audience. This past Friday, however ...

No, it's not another column about the new Fox show "Fringe." I make no secret of the fact that I have a pretty liberal view of what constitutes a sci-fi/fantasy genre show, so what I'm going to talk about today are shows that you wouldn't necessarily think of as part of the sci-fi/fantasy genre. Or at least they're not shows that your average genre fan would watch, or is it more likely admit to watching? This season we have two new shows that are part of that "fringe" category: .The Ex List. and .Valentine.. The Ex List airs on CBS at 9 p.m. Et. The series is an adaptation of an Israeli series titled .Mythological X.. The show .is about Bella Bloom, a single, 30-something, successful business owner who is surprised to learn from a psychic that she's already dated her future...

It was billed as the season of foreign formats.
Of the 12 new scripted series premiering this fall on the Big Four networks, only six were homegrown. Five were based on international formats, and the other, NBC's "Crusoe," was foreign-made.
But one month into the season, all of the rookie ratings standouts are U.S. born and bred, and the imports are struggling.
Four new series -- all created by American writers -- have been picked up for a full season so far: "Fringe" on Fox, "The Mentalist" at CBS and two spinoffs of old American series, the CW's "90210" and NBC's "Knight Rider."
Meanwhile, the freshman immigrants saw their first casualty with "The Ex List," CBS' dramedy based on an Israeli format, which was pulled this week.
Despite being given some of the best real estate on the broadcast networks, format-based rookies have been stumbling.

While Elizabeth Reaser and her femme pals provide plenty of eye candy for passerby male viewer, The Ex List's most eye-catching calling card may come in the form of the fellas it trots out. Reaser gave TVGuide.com a sneak peek at the faces – some handsome, some cute, one who's McTreemy, and maybe even one female – to cross paths again with Bella. Plus: What did the future hold for Grey's Anatomy's Alex and Ava, had Reaser not scored her own show? Read on for our complete interview!

A few days ago, BuddyTV’s very own Debbie Chang reviewed CBS’ The Ex List, which began airing as a fall offering last week. The show, which stars Grey's Anatomy's Elizabeth Reaser, follows 30something Bella as she embarks on a journey to find Mr. Right (within a time frame of one year), a task she must complete or else she'd spend the rest of her life alone, a psychic warns her. The catch is that she has already found Mr. Right and his name is in her list of failed relationships. Recently, Elizabeth Reaser spoke to TV Guide to reveal some thoughts on her character, which is lighter and more fun than her heavy drama counterpart on Grey’s Anatomy.
"I'm always being tragic, anything where they're making a buffoon out of me, I love," she told TV Guide. "The more buffoonery, the better!"
But kidding aside, Reaser says...

To be aired next Friday, October 10, the new episode will follow Bella's search of Mr. Right after finding out that she has dated her soul mate.
