Starting his career on television, Chris Hemsworth managed to become one of the biggest names in the entertainment industry after the massive success of Marvel’s The Avengers. Hemsworth is synonymous with his MCU role as Thor, the Norse God of Thunder, despite giving memorable portrayals in films like Extraction, Cabin in the Woods, Rush, and many more.

The actor’s career is full of smash-hit blockbuster films, that add to his stardom and massive fan following. However, there is one film that left a dent in his stellar acting career that too right after he catapulted himself into new heights of stardom. The film is none other than the 2012 film, Red Dawn, which is often called as the most meaningless remake in the history of Hollywood.

The year was 1973; George Lucas had just finished writing the screenplay for what would be his hit coming-of-age story American Graffiti. A poster on a wall caught his eye, an image of a dream of the old serialized films he enjoyed as a child. Films such as Buck Rogers, Zorro’s Fighting Legion and Spy Smasher flashed through his brain as he had the idea of bringing that type of B-level hero to the big screen. He would take this idea and flesh out a story of a college professor who moonlit as an archeologist adventurer. Little did he know that simple idea would yield one of the greatest and most enduring franchises in movie history as his character Indiana Jones has gone on to appear in five feature films over the course of 42 years that have grossed nearly $2 billion at the worldwide box office. For many, any time the character graces the screen,...

This X-Men ’97 article contains spoilers.
As a revival of X-Men: The Animated Series from the ’90s, X-Men ’97 has really killed it with its first season. Not only does it capture the magic of the original show but it’s also successfully broken away from the original show’s limitations. For example, animators in the ’90s had to be strategic about how they portrayed violence on a kids show — Wolverine couldn’t use his claws on human or mutant enemies, so he spent a lot of his time unloading on Sentinels instead. But in 2024, we have Jubilee graphically splitting a monster’s head open with her firework powers and Gambit impaled by the Mother Mold. It probably helps that this revival of the series is as much for nostalgic adults who want a more grown-up take on these stories as it is for kids.
But it isn’t just...

One might think playing Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe would make it easier for Chris Hemsworth to have free rein when it comes to his other projects, but that hasn't always been the case. Far too often, the actor has found himself with a gun in his hands and scruff on his face, starring in potboiler fare like "Red Dawn," "12 Strong," and "Extraction." Even the "Snow White and the Huntsman" films mistake Hemsworth's strengths as being that of an action hero first, a good-humored character actor second. Yet, as evident by his role in "Thor: Love and...

Our eyes are wide open for Connor Cruise's latest transformation. The 26-year-old son of former Hollywood couple Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise posted a rare summer-ready selfie to his Instagram Story on June 8. In the photo, he sported a fresh haircut and for the caption, he jokingly wrote, "New face, who dis?" The latest change in appearance is a little different from the most recent pictures the avid fisherman has posted of himself while out and about. In fact, the last photo the former actor shared that was a little far from adventure-related was back in March 2019. Luckily for fans, over the past few months, the Red Dawn star has given...

On August 20, the service will premiere the kid-friendly Paw Patrol: The Movie the same day it hits theaters — a first for the streaming service. Paramount+ will also become the streaming home for A Quiet Place Part II following its theatrical release.
The 2,500-title expansion starts with the introduction of more than 1,000 premium movies this week. For a partial list of those, see below.

Paramount Plus is busting out the popcorn: The ViacomCBS streamer is stuffing more than 1,000 movie titles into the service this week as it fights for ground in the streaming wars.

Though Marvel has decided to consolidate all of its cinematic universe offerings onto Disney+, some outliers still live on for other streaming services. In May 2021, Hulu is set to premiere the latest non-canon Marvel series.
The animated comedy Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. is set to premiere on May 21 and stars Patton Oswalt as the titular Marvel villain. Oswalt’s Modok is every bit the devious floating head that he’s depicted as in the comics. He’s also your every day family man and the show will take on the format of a workplace sitcom. Sounds kinda fun! It’s no wonder that M.O.D.O.K. is the last Hulu Marvel show standing.
In non-Marvel offerings this month, Shrill will debut its third and final season on May 7. This comedy based on Lindy West’s memoir and starring SNL‘s Aidy Bryant has been a consistently bright presence on the streaming scene since...

Wait a minute. Are we somehow half way through the year already? That feels impossible but here comes month number five all the same. With its list of new releases for May 2021, Amazon Prime is highlighting some of its more intriguing original series in awhile.
The first original of note is The Underground Railroad. This series from Barry Jenkins tells the story of one woman’s desperate bid for freedom in the Antebellum South and arrives on May 14. After that comes Solos. This intriguing anthology has one hell of a cast including Anthony Mackie, Dan Stevens, Anne Hathaway, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, Constance Wu, and more. The project will premiere on May 21 and each of its seven episodes promises to be quite different.

Fresh off the long-awaited arrival of Zack Snyder’s Justice League (a.k.a. the fabled Snyder Cut), HBO Max has no need to appease fandom culture in April 2021. But the streaming service is gonna do it anyway!
The most notable new release for HBO Max this month is the HBO series The Nevers. This show, created by Joss Whedon, is set in a 19th century steampunk London and finds a sizable portion of the population (predominantly women) having been “Touched” by mysterious paranormal powers. There’s an interesting bit of irony at play here, as HBO Max is following up the Snyder Cut with a show created by his original Justice League replacement. Or at least there could have been an interesting bit of irony here, if Whedon had not bowed out from the show and been enthusiastically left out of the marketing material by HBO.

For a long time, people have had doubts about Chris Hemsworth’s capabilities as a leading man outside of his career-defining role as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Thor. On paper, his track record isn’t exactly great when he’s given top billing with Red Dawn, Blackhat, In the Heart of the Sea, The Huntsman: Winter’s War and Men in Black: International all bombing at the box office.
Even his critically-acclaimed efforts like The Cabin in the Woods, Rush and Bad Times at the El Royale hardly set the world on fire, leading many to believe that the 36 year-old’s fortunes would face an inevitable downturn once his time playing the God of Thunder came to an end. However, it looks like Hemsworth proved many of his doubters wrong following the incredible success of Netflix’s Extraction.

With the upcoming Avengers: Endgame, we may or may not be seeing the end of Chris Hemsworth’s eight-year run in the McU that started with 2011’s Thor, but if things had gone a little differently, then the Australian star might have left Hollywood before he was even cast as the God of Thunder.
In an interview with Men’s Health, Hemsworth recalled how he intended to use his acting career to pay off his parents’ house, but in the period following his brief turn as George Kirk in 2009’s Star Trek, he found that work was in short supply:
“I was about to quit. I always wanted to act, and one of the first things I wanted to do when I got any money was pay my parents’ house off. I’d asked Dad once when he thought he’d pay it off and he said, ‘Honestly, probably never.

There’s a good chance that our favorite characters may find themselves facing off with the Soviet Union. A Reddit user noticed that IMDb listed several cast members of the third season as Russian Guard and Russian Soldier. Those descriptions have since been removed:
“Does anyone aware that there is a cast information per season available on IMDb? Does that imply that this is a full cast for an episode? Or some cast members have to withhold this information prior to the release. I had a difficulty finding Modine in the credits list, so...

If you've watched Netflix's sweet romantic comedy Set It Up, you might wonder why the frazzled aspiring journalist played by Zoey Deutch reminds you of someone you already know from Hollywood. In fact, she looks a lot like the mother in the Back to the Future trilogy and Tom Cruise's love interest in All the Right Moves. Well, that's because Deutch's mother is none other than, drum roll please, the iconic Lea Thompson!
Thompson has been in so many shows and movies over the years that it's hard to keep track of her highly productive career. Before movies and TV shows, her interest in the arts started with professional ballet training.
After Thompson devoted years to the craft, a ballet instructor told her that she was good, but just "too stocky."

Tom Cruise was coming off the breakout success of “Risky Business” when he signed on to star in Michael Chapman’s “All the Right Moves.” The sports drama cast Cruise opposite Lea Thompson, and the actress revealed in a recent interview with Closer Weekly (via W Magazine) that Cruise had her back on set when she expressed being uncomfortable with performing nude scenes.
“[The producers] wanted me to show my breasts twice in the script,” Thompson said. “I didn’t even audition because I didn’t want to take my shirt off, but I got the part and was like, ‘Okay.’”
When Cruise heard Thompson didn’t want to be nude multiple times in the film, he took matters into his own hands and spoke to the producers himself. “Tom managed to talk them out of one of the [nude] scenes,” Thompson said.
The remaining nude scene required Thompson to appear topless. Cruise...

Patti Cake$ producer, Chris Columbus has finally finished his script for the third in the Gremlins saga, Gremlins 3, revealing the next instalment will be more twisted and dark than you have seen before with a minimal use of CGI for the franchise.
Whilst on the junket circuit for Patti Cake$, Columbus revealed the details to Slashfilm stating he is proud of the way the script has ended up.
“I’m really proud of the script. It is as twisted and dark as anything, so we’ll see. It’s always a budgetary conversation when we’re going to shoot it. I wanted to go back to the really twisted sensibility of the first movie. I found that was a very easy place for me to fall back into and start writing again so hopefully we’ll see that movie soon.”

On Aug. 10, 1984, MGM/UA unveiled the war drama Red Dawn, featuring Patrick Swayze and Charlie Sheen, in theaters. The Hollywood Reporter's original review is below.
While John Milius' Red Dawn casts little constructive light on modern Anglo-Soviet relations, its rising at the height of our present Olympics-inspired patriotism represents a rather shrewd bit of capitalistic marketing strategy.
Reaction to the MGM/UA's release's depiction of a home-soil invasion repelled by teenage guerrillas may nonetheless prove a resounding nyet. It packs plenty of rabble-rousing ammunition, but its sloppy execution is unlikely to win any merit badges for marksmanship.

We take a look at new Blu-rays of two ’80s classics.
Shout! Factory’s relatively young collectors label, Shout Select, is something of an odd duck. This is less of a criticism than an observation as their releases so far bear no real discernible through line. We’ve gotten well-deserved Blu-rays of eagerly awaited ’80s classics like To Live and Die in La, Road House, and Midnight Run, but the label has also released/announced titles like Death of a Salesman, The Chinese Connection, and Simon Pegg’s forgettable 2012 film, A Fantastic Fear of Everything. So yeah, there’s something of an odd inconsistency across the catalog.
For now though we’re here to discuss their latest releases, two ’80s films of varying acclaim and renown — John Milius’ Red Dawn and Dennis Hopper’s Colors.

Here's one of those stories that you may have missed over the years. It always makes me chuckle, and if all goes to plan, I'll find a few more short pieces of this ilk over the coming weeks.
The late Patrick Swayze was fond of a practical joke or two on his movie sets - and one in particular lit a fire beneath his director at the time.
Swayze was making the film Red Dawn, for director John Milius. Milius, a man fond of explosives himself, went to answer a call of nature whilst shooting the film. Unbenownst to him, however, Patrick Swayze had got there first.

Like the otherworldly Norse god he plays, Chris Hemsworth has a history of bursting onto the screen in heroic fashion. But “The Huntsman: Winter’s War,” which opened last weekend with a disappointing $19.4 million, marks the latest in a string of big-budget misfires for the Aussie star beyond his appearances as Thor in the Marvel franchise. Ever since the original “Snow White and the Huntsman” opened four years ago to $56.2 million on its way to a global haul of $397 million, Hemsworth has toplined a string of box office underperformers: “Red Dawn” (2012), Ron Howard‘s “Rush” (2012), Michael Mann‘s “Blackhat”...

Indirectly spawned by Steven Spielberg, PG-13 is now the rating of choice among movie studios. Ryan charts the effects of its rise and rise.
Even compared to the exploding heads and melting faces of Raiders Of The Lost Ark, The Temple Of Doom was an intense, gruesome affair. The Indiana Jones prequel may have begun with a breezy song-and-dance number, but it soon descended into a dark ghost train ride of human sacrifice, death by crocodiles, child slavery and chilled monkey brains for dinner.
One of the film’s most famous scenes saw a victim’s heart torn out and held, still pumping and oozing blood, before his gazing eyes. Some kids in the audience were probably cackling with macabre glee at all this. Parents and critics were far less amused. One reviewer even suggested that taking a child to see The Temple Of Doom was tantamount to wilful neglect.

From title changes to the addition of rubber demons, here's a selection of some rather strange movie alterations from cinema history...
The course of film production seldom runs smooth, and even the greatest films can suffer from all sorts of behind-the-scenes problems. For a very recent example, just look at Fantastic Four, a film with which suffered the kind of difficult production that will no doubt inspire books on the subject in the near future.
At any rate, the movies on this list are all examples of strange (and sometimes last-minute) changes, often imposed by producers or executives. In some unfortunate cases, the changes haven't been particularly beneficial, but one alteration turned out to be a pioneering moment in cinema history.
In every instance, the changes are unusual, surprising, or sometimes downright baffling ...

Before he began a successful career as a director starting with 1987's "Adventures in Babysitting," Chris Columbus began his career as a screenwriter. Two of his first scripts have since gone on to become bonafide classics - "Gremlins" and "The Goonies".
Both films, now just over thirty years old each, have also been the subject of rumored reboots in recent years, with new takes on both properties in early development. So far though, they still seem to be stuck in that stage and have yet to progress.
Ahead of the release of Columbus' new film "Pixels," the director is out doing press and was asked by Screen Crush how the two reboots are going. He says they are still in active development, but that they're very slow going:
"The stuff that I'm involved with - the Gremlins and Goonies reboots, for instance - they would do that without me. So,...

It's sort of crazy to think that Josh Hutcherson is still only 22-year-old. The Kentucky native has already been a centerpiece of two major studio franchises ("Journey" and "The Hunger Games"), appeared in a Best Picture nominee ("The Kids Are All Right"), starred in an unnecessary remake ("Red Dawn"), voiced a major character in an animated release ("Epic") and starred in two classic family films ("Bridge to Terabithia" and "Zathura"). His four-year journey as Peeta comes to an end this November, but Hutcherson is actually spreading his wings into his first real adult role this weekend with "Escobar: Paradise Lost." Directed by first-timer Andrea Di Stefano, "Escobar" centers on a Canadian surf boarder (Hutcherson) who falls for one of the nieces of the notorious Columbian drug lord Pablo Escobar (Benicio Del Toro). While the movie's storyline is fiction it was inspired by the tale of a young Italian who made...

Harry Callahan’s next adventure originated with John Milius, Hollywood’s favorite gun fanatic, surfer and “Zen anarchist.” Milius wrote B Movies for American International Pictures before breaking through with two Westerns, The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean and Jeremiah Johnson. His knack for macho action and pulpy, colorful dialogue fit Dirty Harry perfectly; Milius wrote his draft in 21 days, receiving a Purdey shotgun as payment.
Though uncredited, Milius claims credit for Harry‘s dialogue, especially the “Do I feel lucky?” monologue. Others, including Richard Schickel, credit Harry Julian Fink with that speech. Clint Eastwood marginalizes Milius’s contributions to the film, admitting “we might have taken a few good items John had in there.” Milius resented this: “Look at the movie and you tell me who wrote that,” he challenged an interviewer.

George Lucas didn't just create the "Star Wars" universe. The filmmaker, who turns 71 on May 14, pretty much created the cinematic universe we live in now, the ones whose cornerstones include the Thx sound system at your multiplex, the Pixar movies that have dominated animation for the past 20 years, and the Industrial Light & Magic special-effects house, whose aesthetic has ruled the Hollywood blockbuster for nearly four decades. He's the pioneer of the effects-driven action spectacle and the conversion from celluloid to digital, the two trends that, for better and worse, have defined Hollywood's output for nearly 20 years.
As ubiquitous as Lucas and his creations loom in our cinematic dreamscapes, there's still a lot that most people don't know about him, from how he got his start to the famous folks who mentored him or were mentored by him, from the size of his fortune to what he plans to do now...

With the Gremlins reboot still going, it's been revealed that a new writer has joined the project: Red Eye and Disturbia's Carl Ellsworth...
The last we heard, the long-mooted Gremlins reboot was on hold.
The new addition to the film series created by the great Joe Dante was being written by Seth Grahame Smith, but in January, he revealed that the project had "run out of steam" - producers Christopher Columbus (who wrote the 1984 original) and Steven Spielberg were, he said, busy on other projects.

There have been rumblings of a remake of the 1984 horror comedy Gremlins developing at Warner Bros. with last year bringing a rumor that Chris Columbus would be producing the remake. Now Deadline confirms that the studio is indeed working on reviving the original film from Joe Dante with a new version that will be scripted by Carl Ellsworth, who recently wrote the big screen adaptation of R.L. Stine's Goosebumps horror book series, as well as Disturbia (which is basically a remake of Rear Window) and remakes of Last House on the Left and Red Dawn. Steven Spielberg will also be producing this one too. If for some reason you're not familiar with the silly little horror flick, it took place in a small town where a young man came into possession of an odd little animal called a Mogwai. And this adorable little guy had some rules to take care of him,...

Though a lot of fans of the Gremlins films that originally seared the critters into our memories might want to add “don’t ever try to remake the original” to the famous list of rules for care of Mogwai, Warner Bros, Steven Spielberg and Chris Columbus are nevertheless still pushing ahead with a reboot. Carl Ellsworth is the latest writer to take a crack at the script.Exactly what the studio wants from the new film is not yet clear, since it’s still deep in development. But chances are there will be a new take on the first film’s story – famously written by Columbus with Joe Dante marshalling the madness – set in a sleepy, quaint American everytown at Christmas that is thrown into chaos by the bolshie beasts.Spielberg (who produced the original) and Columbus are strictly on board as producers for now, and seem to have hired...

Robert Redford movies: TCM shows 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,' 'The Sting' They don't make movie stars like they used to, back in the days of Louis B. Mayer, Jack Warner, and Harry Cohn. That's what nostalgists have been bitching about for the last four or five decades; never mind the fact that movie stars have remained as big as ever despite the demise of the old studio system and the spectacular rise of television more than sixty years ago. This month of January 2015, Turner Classic Movies will be honoring one such post-studio era superstar: Robert Redford. Beginning this Monday evening, January 6, TCM will be presenting 15 Robert Redford movies. Tonight's entries include Redford's two biggest blockbusters, both directed by George Roy Hill and co-starring Paul Newman: Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, which turned Redford, already in his early 30s, into a major film star to rival Rudolph Valentino,...

Warner Bros. Pictures has released the brand new trailer for next summer’s disaster-suspense film San Andreas.
The film stars Dwayne Johnson, Carla Gugino, Alexandra Daddario, Ioan Gruffudd, Archie Panjabi, Hugo Johnstone-Burt, Art Parkinson and Paul Giamatti.
Shot on location in The Gold Coast and Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, and in Los Angeles and San Francisco, San Andreas is slated to open in theatres in both 3D and 2D format on Friday, May 29, 2015.
This isn’t the first film where Southern California has been destroyed on the silver screen. San Francisco (1936) is based on the April 18, 1906 San Francisco earthquake. Directed by Woody Van Dyke, the drama stars Clark Gable, Jeanette MacDonald, and Spencer Tracy.
Airport originated the 1970s disaster film genre and audiences were deluged with a series of movies including the original Earthquake (1974). These films always included a huge cast, where many of the actors usually perished by the climax.

Airport originated the 1970s disaster film genre and audiences were deluged with a series of movies including the original Earthquake (1974). These films always included a huge cast, where many of the actors usually perished by the climax.

"I cannot emphasize this enough. You need to get out, and I mean now." California crumbles in the first teaser trailer for San Andreas, the earthquake action thriller starring Dwayne Johnson. Now obviously a disaster of this scale wouldn't be something to be excited about, but we're surprised that a disaster flick like this paints such a somber portrait of the movie, especially since it's coming from director Brad Peyton of Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. But it's actually a little refreshing to have a teaser trailer that features massive destruction, and doesn't just go for the big, fun action angle. But will the movie be good? Watch! Here's the first trailer for Brad Peyton's San Andreas from Warner Bros. Pictures: San Andreas is directed by Brad Peyton (Journey 2: The Mysterious Island) and written by Allan Loeb (Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps), Carlton Cuse (executive producer and writer...

Friday Night Lights and Legion actress Adrianne Palicki joins Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.
The cast of Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. continues to grow as the McU-set show moves closer to its second season.
Joining other new additions Kyle MacLachlan, Lucy Lawless, Reed Diamond and Nick Blood, Adrianne Palicki has now been confirmed for the role of Bobbi Morse, otherwise known as Mockingbird.
A familiar name to comic book fans, who had previously been hinted in a video at San Diego Comic-Con, Bobbi Morse is a spy with exceptional fighting skills, who has teamed up with S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Avengers many times in comics history. She’s been romantically involved with Hawkeye in print, too.
Adrianne Palicki will make her Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. debut in season two episode five, possibly on the opposing team to Clark Gregg’s Agent Coulson (to start with).

"I'm not gonna forgive you. Only God forgives." Just in case the first trailer for the action thriller called The Prince didn't convince you that this was not going to be a good movie, a second trailer has arrived, showing a little more of the story. Jason Patric plays a former assassin and father who finds his daughter in danger when a rival assassin (Bruce Willis) kidnaps her in order to get back at him for some wrong done in the past. The only interesting aspect of the film is Willis as the bad guy, but he really seems to be phoning this one in. And again, we're not very sure what John Cusack is doing here, but whatever. Watch? Here's the new trailer for Brian A. Miller's The Prince from Collider: The Prince is directed by Brian A. Miller (The Outsider, Officer Down and Caught in the Crossfire) written...

The Final Terror is the latest 80’s slasher to be resurrected by the fine folks at Scream Factory, who give the modest cult classic a really well done high definition presentation. And while they weren’t able to restore the original film negative for The Final Terror, the fact that Scream Factory went to such great lengths to locate the next best thing (original prints from private collectors) proves why they continue to kick all kinds of ass.
The Final Terror follows a group of horn-dog fire rangers and their “special lady friends” as they head deep into the forest for a day of work and, of course, a little hanky panky (this is a slasher movie, after all). During their outing, all kinds of weird crap begins happening- people go missing, severed limbs are discovered in an ramshackled cabin- which forces the friends to come together and figure out...
