Not only does it capture the magic of the original show but it’s also successfully broken away from the original show’s limitations. Paramount+ said Monday that it will significantly expand its content offering to more than 2,500 titles by the end of summer, starting with the exclusive premiere of the sci-fi action film Infinite, which will make its debut June 10. It stars Mark Wahlberg and Chiwetel Ejiofor and is directed by Antoine Fuqua.

On August 20, the service will premiere the kid-friendly Paw Patrol: The Movie the same day it hits theaters — a first for the streaming service. Paramount+ will also become the streaming home for A Quiet Place Part II following its theatrical release.

Paramount Plus is busting out the popcorn: The ViacomCBS streamer is stuffing more than 1,000 movie titles into the service this week as it fights for ground in the streaming wars.

The new batch of flicks includes “Infinite,” Paramount’s sci-fi thriller starring Mark Wahlberg and Chiwetel Ejiofor and directed by Antoine Fuqua, which will exclusively debut on Paramount Plus this Thursday, June 10, alongside another 1,000-plus movies. The animated comedy Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. is set to premiere on May 21 and stars Patton Oswalt as the titular Marvel villain. Oswalt’s Modok is every bit the devious floating head that he’s depicted as in the comics. He’s also your every day family man and the show will take on the format of a workplace sitcom. Sounds kinda fun! It’s no wonder that M.O.D.O.K. is the last Hulu Marvel show standing.

Wait a minute. Are we somehow half way through the year already? That feels impossible but here comes month number five all the same. With its list of new releases for May 2021, Amazon Prime is highlighting some of its more intriguing original series in awhile.

The first original of note is The Underground Railroad. This series from Barry Jenkins tells the story of one woman’s desperate bid for freedom in the Antebellum South and arrives on May 14. After that comes Solos. This intriguing anthology has one hell of a cast including Anthony Mackie, Dan Stevens, Anne Hathaway, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, Constance Wu, and more. Fresh off the long-awaited arrival of Zack Snyder’s Justice League (a.k.a. the fabled Snyder Cut), HBO Max has no need to appease fandom culture in April 2021. But the streaming service is gonna do it anyway!

The most notable new release for HBO Max this month is the HBO series The Nevers. This show, created by Joss Whedon, is set in a 19th century steampunk London and finds a sizable portion of the population (predominantly women) having been “Touched” by mysterious paranormal powers. There’s an interesting bit of irony at play here, as HBO Max is following up the Snyder Cut with a show created by his original Justice League replacement. Or at least there could have been an interesting bit of irony here, if Whedon had not bowed out from the show and been enthusiastically left out of the marketing material by HBO.

For a long time, people have had doubts about Chris Hemsworth’s capabilities as a leading man outside of his career-defining role as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Thor. Netflix has confirmed that 54 new original series, movies and specials will be debuting on the streaming service in December. Leading off the lineup is the eagerly awaited Noah Baumbach family drama “Marriage Story” starring Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson. While that starts streaming on Dec. 6, another awards hopeful, “The Two Popes,” with Oscar winner Anthony Hopkins and Tony champ Jonathan Pryce, won’t hit the service till Dec. 19.

In the lead-up to Christmas, Netflix is programming a slew of holiday fare, including the third entry in the “A Christmas Prince” franchise, as well as the one-offs “A Family Reunion Christmas,” “Home for Christmas” and “Three Days of Christmas.”

Netflix has released their list of everything coming and going throughout the month of December.

There’s good news and bad news. The good news is that we’re gaining Season 2 of “You,” which features Penn Badgley as a handsome murderer who seems to kill the women he loves the most. In a surprising twist, we’re also getting the 2005 classic, “The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl,” and other highlights like Ian Somerhalder’s new vampire show “V Wars,” “Tiffany Haddish: Black Mitzvah,” and the new Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson-led film “Marriage Story.”

The bad news is, we’re losing Season 7-11 of Anthony’s Bourdain’s “Parts Unknown.” We’re also losing “Thor: Ragnarok” and “Billy Elliott,” “Rain Man,” “Pulp Fiction,” and “Rocky” I-v.

With the upcoming Avengers: Endgame, we may or may not be seeing the end of Chris Hemsworth’s eight-year run in the McU that started with 2011’s Thor, but if things had gone a little differently, then the Australian star might have left Hollywood before he was even cast as the God of Thunder.

In an interview with Men’s Health, Hemsworth recalled how he intended to use his acting career to pay off his parents’ house, but in the period following his brief turn as George Kirk in 2009’s Star Trek, he found that work was in short supply:

“I was about to quit. I always wanted to act, and one of the first things I wanted to do when I got any money was pay my parents’ house off. I’d asked Dad once when he thought he’d pay it off and he said, ‘Honestly, probably never.

The plot for Stranger Things season three is mostly shrouded in mystery. There’s so much we don’t know about the where the story is going to take these characters, but some new information has leaked that may reveal a new villain they will find themselves facing.

Academy Award-nominated art director and production illustrator George Jenson died of melanoma cancer in Henderson, Nev., on May 25. He was 87.

He was the production illustrator on 1983’s “Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi.” Jenson received his Oscar nomination for visual effects on “2010” in 1984.

Jenson began his career in the film industry in 1964 as a production illustrator/storyboard artist at 20th Century Fox Studios, working for producer Irwin Allen’s series “Lost in Space,” “Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea,” “Time Tunnel,” and “Land of the Giants.” He moved to Filmation Associates as a layout artist and illustrator on the animated TV series “Star Trek,” “Mission: Magic,” “Lassie’s Rescue Rangers,” and “My Favorite Martian” during 1972-75.

Tom Cruise was coming off the breakout success of “Risky Business” when he signed on to star in Michael Chapman’s “All the Right Moves.” The sports drama cast Cruise opposite Lea Thompson, and the actress revealed in a recent interview with Closer Weekly (via W Magazine) that Cruise had her back on set when she expressed being uncomfortable with performing nude scenes.

“[The producers] wanted me to show my breasts twice in the script,” Thompson said. “I didn’t even audition because I didn’t want to take my shirt off, but I got the part and was like, ‘Okay.’”

When Cruise heard Thompson didn’t want to be nude multiple times in the film, he took matters into his own hands and spoke to the producers himself. “Tom managed to talk them out of one of the [nude] scenes,” Thompson said.

Patti Cake$ producer, Chris Columbus has finally finished his script for the third in the Gremlins saga, Gremlins 3, revealing the next instalment will be more twisted and dark than you have seen before with a minimal use of CGI for the franchise.

Whilst on the junket circuit for Patti Cake$, Columbus revealed the details to Slashfilm stating he is proud of the way the script has ended up.

“I’m really proud of the script. It is as twisted and dark as anything, so we’ll see. It’s always a budgetary conversation when we’re going to shoot it. I wanted to go back to the really twisted sensibility of the first movie. I found that was a very easy place for me to fall back into and start writing again so hopefully we’ll see that movie soon.”

Indirectly spawned by Steven Spielberg, PG-13 is now the rating of choice among movie studios. Ryan charts the effects of its rise and rise.

Even compared to the exploding heads and melting faces of Raiders Of The Lost Ark, The Temple Of Doom was an intense, gruesome affair. The Indiana Jones prequel may have begun with a breezy song-and-dance number, but it soon descended into a dark ghost train ride of human sacrifice, death by crocodiles, child slavery and chilled monkey brains for dinner.

One of the film’s most famous scenes saw a victim’s heart torn out and held, still pumping and oozing blood, before his gazing eyes. Some kids in the audience were probably cackling with macabre glee at all this. Parents and critics were far less amused. One reviewer even suggested that taking a child to see The Temple Of Doom was tantamount to wilful neglect.

Michael Peña (The Martian, Ant-man, Fury) has signed on as the starring lead in the action-thriller The Worker for Jeremy Renner and Don Handfield’s production outfit, The Combine, and Content Media. Dan Bradley (Red Dawn) is directing the film from a screenplay by Kyle Rankin.

The course of film production seldom runs smooth, and even the greatest films can suffer from all sorts of behind-the-scenes problems. For a very recent example, just look at Fantastic Four, a film with which suffered the kind of difficult production that will no doubt inspire books on the subject in the near future.

At any rate, the movies on this list are all examples of strange (and sometimes last-minute) changes, often imposed by producers or executives. In some unfortunate cases, the changes haven't been particularly beneficial, but one alteration turned out to be a pioneering moment in cinema history.

Before he began a successful career as a director starting with 1987's "Adventures in Babysitting," Chris Columbus began his career as a screenwriter. Two of his first scripts have since gone on to become bonafide classics - "Gremlins" and "The Goonies".

Both films, now just over thirty years old each, have also been the subject of rumored reboots in recent years, with new takes on both properties in early development. So far though, they still seem to be stuck in that stage and have yet to progress.

Ahead of the release of Columbus' new film "Pixels," the director is out doing press and was asked by Screen Crush how the two reboots are going. He says they are still in active development, but that they're very slow going:

Harry Callahan’s next adventure originated with John Milius, Hollywood’s favorite gun fanatic, surfer and “Zen anarchist.” Milius wrote B Movies for American International Pictures before breaking through with two Westerns, The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean and Jeremiah Johnson. His knack for macho action and pulpy, colorful dialogue fit Dirty Harry perfectly; Milius wrote his draft in 21 days, receiving a Purdey shotgun as payment.

Though uncredited, Milius claims credit for Harry‘s dialogue, especially the “Do I feel lucky?” monologue. Others, including Richard Schickel, credit Harry Julian Fink with that speech. Clint Eastwood marginalizes Milius’s contributions to the film, admitting “we might have taken a few good items John had in there.” Milius resented this: “Look at the movie and you tell me who wrote that,” he challenged an interviewer.

With the Gremlins reboot still going, it's been revealed that a new writer has joined the project: Red Eye and Disturbia's Carl Ellsworth...

The last we heard, the long-mooted Gremlins reboot was on hold.

The new addition to the film series created by the great Joe Dante was being written by Seth Grahame Smith, but in January, he revealed that the project had "run out of steam" - producers Christopher Columbus (who wrote the  1984 original) and Steven Spielberg were, he said, busy on other projects.

"I think we just ran out of steam", he said. "It's one of those things where everybody got so busy doing other things. It's something I would love to come back to, but right now, Steven's making two movies back to back and Chris Columbus is busy [making Pixels]. We're all taking a five-minute break on that".

There have been rumblings of a remake of the 1984 horror comedy Gremlins developing at Warner Bros. with last year bringing a rumor that Chris Columbus would be producing the remake. Now Deadline confirms that the studio is indeed working on reviving the original film from Joe Dante with a new version that will be scripted by Carl Ellsworth, who recently wrote the big screen adaptation of R.L. Stine's Goosebumps horror book series, as well as Disturbia (which is basically a remake of Rear Window) and remakes of Last House on the Left and Red Dawn. Steven Spielberg will also be producing this one too. Carl Ellsworth has signed up to write the new version of Gremlins.

Ellsworth is the latest screenwriter to be attached to the horror comedy remake, Deadline reports.

Gremlins looks to be progressing again after 'running out of steam' earlier this year.

Previous writer Seth Grahame-Smith revealed that the project wasn't moving ahead back in January.

Warner Bros. Pictures has released the brand new trailer for next summer’s disaster-suspense film San Andreas.

The film stars Dwayne Johnson, Carla Gugino, Alexandra Daddario, Ioan Gruffudd, Archie Panjabi, Hugo Johnstone-Burt, Art Parkinson and Paul Giamatti.

Shot on location in The Gold Coast and Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, and in Los Angeles and San Francisco, San Andreas is slated to open in theatres in both 3D and 2D format on Friday, May 29, 2015.

This isn’t the first film where Southern California has been destroyed on the silver screen. San Francisco (1936) is based on the April 18, 1906 San Francisco earthquake. Directed by Woody Van Dyke, the drama stars Clark Gable, Jeanette MacDonald, and Spencer Tracy.

Warner Bros. Pictures has announced that it has acquired the U.S. distribution rights to Academy Award winner Russell Crowe’s (“Gladiator”) directorial debut, from RatPac Entertainment, The Water Diviner, which the Studio will release in select U.S. theaters on April 24, 2015.

The cast of Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. continues to grow as the McU-set show moves closer to its second season.

Joining other new additions Kyle MacLachlan, Lucy Lawless, Reed Diamond and Nick Blood, Adrianne Palicki has now been confirmed for the role of Bobbi Morse, otherwise known as Mockingbird.

A familiar name to comic book fans, who had previously been hinted in a video at San Diego Comic-Con, Bobbi Morse is a spy with exceptional fighting skills, who has teamed up with S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Avengers many times in comics history. She’s been romantically involved with Hawkeye in print, too.

Just in case the first trailer for the action thriller called The Prince didn't convince you that this was not going to be a good movie, a second trailer has arrived, showing a little more of the story. Jason Patric plays a former assassin and father who finds his daughter in danger when a rival assassin (Bruce Willis) kidnaps her in order to get back at him for some wrong done in the past. The Final Terror is the latest 80’s slasher to be resurrected by the fine folks at Scream Factory, who give the modest cult classic a really well done high definition presentation. And while they weren’t able to restore the original film negative for The Final Terror, the fact that Scream Factory went to such great lengths to locate the next best thing (original prints from private collectors) proves why they continue to kick all kinds of ass.
