  • This 12 minute short was released as part of the Choose Your Own Adventure option on the H&K Guantanamo Bay DVD. The blurb is: "Ever wonder what would have happened if Harold & Kumar had not been sent to Guantanamo and simply made it to Amsterdam? Here's a little something director Jon Hurwitz shot guerrilla-style all over Amsterdam in 3 days."

While vaguely amusing, it seems like the 4 main actors just spent the time filming each other snogging, which is a pricey way to spend a trip to Europe. They even got the actress playing Kumar's lost love Vanessa on the trip simply for a short dream sequence. Nice work if you can get it!

"Harold & Kumar Go to Amsterdam" is a 12-minute short film from 7 years ago. The good thing about it is that it has the 2 lead actors from the "real" films and also Hurwitz and Schlossberg, who wrote and directed the long movies, are on board for this one. But that is already all the positive I can come up with. I liked one H&K movie and I quite disliked another, so I wasn't sure how much i would like this short movie. sadly not too much. It's not really that funny. Harold and Kumar are off to Amsterdam and apart from struggles with drugs and brothels, they also find love and sort-of neglect each other. At least they did not take this storyline for a long movie as this short one was already a bit of a drag. Not recommended.

It would have been great if they had to find Maria in Amsterdam, but they see her right away and this makes it so quick it's kind of off putting. If they made it an adventure to find Maria (like the adventure to White Castle) the film would have been great. I love the idea of this being the alternative to the 2nd movie because it shows how the friendship would have ended if not for Kumar messing up their trip to Amsterdam on the plane. It shows that Kumar does mess up a lot, but maybe for the better of Harold and Kumar's friendship. The short film makes me happy they didn't immediately make it to Amsterdam because we got a 3rd movie out of it.
