Cannes -- MTV is going to Paris.
The network has bought television rights to "Paris, Not France," Adria Petty's documentary about the behind-the-scenes life and persona of the young socialite.
MTV, which is currently airing the second season of "Paris Hilton's My New Bff," is tentatively planning to air the documentary on the network this summer.
Petty, known primarily as a music video director, had enormous access both to Hilton's private life and her public jetsetting one. She also interviews a large number of Hilton's family and friends.
The film essentially shows that the public caricature of Hilton as a ditzy party girl is mainly a character invented for entertainment purposes, and the actual Hilton is far more thoughtful and self-aware. Indeed, in a number of interviews in the piece she comes across as such.

Socialite Paris Hilton has forced organisers of the Toronto International Film Festival to cancel two screenings of her new documentary - in a bid to raise the profile of the film.
The hotel heiress is the focus of Paris, Not France - billed as a behind-the-scenes look at her life - which is due to premiere at the Canadian event on Tuesday.
But two advance screenings have now been scrapped, because the star would prefer to only host one showing as it will create "more hype".
Her representative Jason Moore tells New York Post gossip column PageSix, "We wanted to create more buzz - create some hype. We felt the impact would be more extreme if we had one screening. She is a partner with the documentary and will be attending Tuesday's screening in support of it."
Festival programmer Thom Powers insists that organisers are not happy about the cancellations - but they have to obey Hilton's instructions.
He says, "I wish we could do more, but it's better than not showing it at all."...
