If you are new to the Gundam scene, or want to watch it in Chronological order, then this show is a must. It does a great job at setting up the Gundam universe and makes watching the rest of the series (in order) much more enjoyable and less confusing. The main character is a gary stu type, but you can look past that and enjoy the rest of the show pretty easily. The animation and voice acting is good, as well as the writing and directing. All in all it's a great anime that I highly recommend whether you like Gundam or not.

It's like watching the Star War prequels: the amount of retcon combined with poor writing is hard to swallow. The original Gundam struggled with romance, but that was in the late 70s; this is a 2019 release that has a GROWN MAN SUCCESSFULLY propose to one of his STUDENTS by asking her to bear his children.
The retcons also make it seem like everyone went to school together, takes away some of Char's complexity, and even does Haro dirty by essentially making him R2D2- a super old model around long past its prime. Do not watch unless you feel the need to ruin your memories of the original or want to see how badly the original Gundam, as imperfect as it was, could be made worse.
