David : That is so.
Elizabeth : Then how would you romance this girl?
David : How would I romance her? You really want to know?

David : Ooh. Let's see. I would take her on a boat. Out on the water. It would be sunset, of course. And I would take her in my arms, and I would say to her... 'All I love, all I ever need, is you. David : [David walks up to Elizabeth and the family dog, knowing Elizabeth's still mad at him] Good morning, Tilly. How are you?
[Tilly groans]
David : Well, I'm good. Thank you for asking. How did you sleep?
[the dog vocalizes again]
David : How did I sleep? Oh, I slept like a baby. How about you? Tilly. Shh. She's right there. She can hear you.
[Elizabeth scoffs]

Elizabeth : [David falls to the ground, faking a food allergy] David, are you okay? David, wake up! Wake up! Wake up!
David : Shh. I'm trying to sleep.
Elizabeth : Is that your idea of a joke?
David : More of a performance piece, really.
Elizabeth : You think it's funny to make me believe you're dead?
David : I was going for unconscious, but I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a very good actor.

Elizabeth : You think I'm dull, don't you?
David : No. In fact, that's the opposite of what I was trying to express.
Elizabeth : Well, why don't you just say it? I won't be angry. You think my life with George is dull and uninteresting. At least compared to your life.
David : Well, someone's gotta hold down the fort so us crazies can act out.
Elizabeth : Well, maybe... nothing.
David : No, go ahead, you started. Maybe what?
Elizabeth : Maybe, sometimes, I get a bit sick of holding down the fort. Maybe I don't want to be just vanilla. Maybe I want to be chocolate and strawberry, too.

Elizabeth : You think vanilla is dull?
David : I think vanilla is playing it a little bit safe. And from my observation, all the years that I've known you, Elizabeth, you do tend to play it safe. Maybe it's because you want people to think that you're a responsible, practical, safe person, but, deep down, I think you're actually a Neapolitan ice-cream sundae, with sprinkles, maybe even a little cherry on top. If you'd just let go once in a while, you might discover that you're not vanilla, not at all.

Elizabeth : Did you say something?
David : No. Sorry to interrupt. You were saying how fond you were of vanilla. I mean, imagine, if you will, a world where only vanilla exists--no butterscotch, no coconut, no rocky road. I suspect, in a vanilla world, oceans wouldn't get crossed, mountains never climbed, civilizations never discovered. Perhaps I'm being dramatic.
