ITV presenter Piers Morgan has quit morning show “Good Morning Britain” after comments he made about Meghan Markle sparked public outcry and triggered an investigation by the U.K.’s media regulator.
The U.K. broadcaster confirmed in a statement on Tuesday evening local time that “following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain. ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add.”
Morgan, who began his career as a newspaper journalist and had a stint on CNN hosting “Piers Morgan Live,” started on “Good Morning Britain” in 2015 as a guest host and soon became a permanent fixture alongside co-host Susanna Reid. He also fronts other ITV shows, including “Piers Morgan’s Life Stories.” Variety contacted ITV for comment on whether Morgan will continue presenting the latter interview program, and was told the statement only referred to “Good Morning Britain.

The battle lines have been drawn between outspoken ITV host Piers Morgan and Adeel Amini, the chair of industry org Coalition for Change, after the latter revealed he had a negative experience working on Morgan’s show “Piers Morgan’s Life Stories.”

“(Full disclosure: I worked on P*ers M*rgan’s Life Stories as a researcher but now I’d very much say no),” the tweet added. Amini has 4,030 followers on Twitter.
In response, Morgan, who is also the co-host of popular ITV breakfast show “Good Morning Britain,” responded: “Hi Adeel, you spent precisely two months working on Life Stories in 2010 & judging by your CV that was the pinnacle of your TV career.

Bear Grylls is having a bit of a moment. Not only has he been off running around the Alaskan wilderness with someone called Barack Obama, but it's just emerged that he made £3.3m last year from his merchandise (you can buy everything from Bear Grylls knives to protein shakes to parachutes, apparently).
Now he's gone and said that he wants to be the new David Attenborough - except with more pee-drinking, presumably. And that's the rub: Bear Grylls does loads of really, really disgusting things...
1. He gave himself an enema
"There is a way of using it to gain life-giving fluids, but only as a last resort: I'm going to give myself an enema." Bear, love, you're on television - that does not count as a 'last resort'. And also we really don't want to watch you sticking a pipe up your bum. As he grimaced and popped the tube where the sun don't shine,...

Piers Morgan has grilled everyone from Gordon Brown to... Tony Blackburn on Life Stories, but he'd never let anyone interview him in the same manner.
The controversial broadcaster told BT TV that he would make himself look like a fool if he ever got the chance to interview himself in some futuristic nightmare.
"The only person I would trust is myself," said Morgan. "And even then, I don't think I'd trust myself. I'd get carried away interviewing myself and make myself look like an idiot. I'd never put myself through what I put other people through!"
He continued: "I just don't really like emoting in public. It's just not my thing. I'm not alone – some people just don't like doing it.
"A lot of famous people do quite like emoting, or are prepared to take the risk. I just wouldn't want to do that and put myself in that position...

"I remember kneeling on the beach like this. She was standing there going, 'What are you doing?' She was in a towel and a massive Atlantic roller came and I went, will you - and it went - took me up the beach."

Martin Kemp has reflected on the trauma of being diagnosed with two brain tumours back in the 1990s.
Kemp stepped away from the spotlight in 1995 in order to undergo a series of major medical procedures, after noticing a lump on his scalp.
The actor has told Piers Morgan's Life Stories that having two brain tumours rather than one ultimately saved his life.
"When you know you've got a tumour in your head as big as [a grapefruit] you don't have to be told by anybody [that it's life or death]," he recalled.
Kemp went on to say: "There was a good side to it. Because I had two tumours. One on the outside of my head and one on the inside, which was growing in the middle of my brain.
"If they've never found this one [on my head], growing out, they wouldn't have found the one in the middle until it was too late, and that was the one that would have killed me.

Piers Morgan's Life Stories last night achieved its best audience in two-and-a-half years, overnight data shows.
Morgan's hour-long interview with Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean attracted an impressive 5.85m (24.9%) to ITV from 9pm, appealing to a further 360,000 on +1.
The CNN broadcaster's 56th programme was its fourth most popular, and most watched since November 2010 when Susan Boyle appeared.
However, Morgan had little in the way of competition, its nearest rival being a BBC One repeat of New Tricks, which took 3.3m (14.1%).
A Vicar of Dibley classic preceded the crime drama with 2.9m (12%) in the 8.30pm slot, soundly beaten by Coronation Street.
Against BBC One's EastEnders, ITV's Wild Britain with Ray Mears mustered 2.87m (12.5%) at 8pm (+1: 129k).
BBC Two and Channel 5's best-rated programmes came during the 8pm hour, with Gardeners' World interesting 2.24m (9.2%) and 5's Ice Road Truckers entertaining 1.11m (4.7%).

"I personally think he found the right balance," Welch told Digital Spy. Sir Elton John has admitted that he "wasted a big part" of his life by using drugs. The 65-year-old, who battled addictions to alcohol and cocaine until 1990, said that he wishes he had become clean sooner so he could fully enjoy his early career. He told Matt Lauer on the Today show: "I wasted such a big part of my life. I was a drug addict and self-absorbed. You know, I was having people die right, left, and centre around me, friends. "And yet I didn't stop the life that I had, which is the terrible thing about addiction. It's that - you know, it's that bad of a disease." John, who suffered an overdose in 1975, previously revealed on Piers Morgan's Life Stories that he would turn blue from epileptic seizures after using cocaine, then snort more when he came round. TV host Piers Morgan has banned Madonna from appearing on his talk shows on both sides of the Atlantic.
The former newspaper editor called the Material Girl "an irritant in my life for 20 years" and vetoed her from his CNN show when he took the reins from Larry King in January last year.
He conceded an apology may win her an appearance, but "other than that, it's a lifetime ban".
The feud was re-ignited on Twitter.com when Madonna joined the microblogging site earlier this month, and when Morgan reminded her of the ban, the singer's manager Guy Oseary attempted to embarrass the British journalist by revealing members of his production team had sent an invitation to Madonna to appear on his British TV show Piers Morgan's Life Stories.
Oseary even posted a copy of the email on his Twitter page - but Morgan remained defiant and has now extended the ban.
He responded, "Madonna has only been banned from my CNN show, not my U.K. show, which sent that invite. But I'm now banning her from that too... Oh, and I'm afraid you're banned from all my shows too... guilt by association, sorry."...

Simon Cowell, "The X Factor" judge best known for sending people packing, appears to be voting someone off his personal life. Cowell and fiancee Mezhgan Hussainy are on "a break" according to The Daily Mirror.
Cowell tells the publication that the two have not seen each other for a month. As for their engagement, he says, "It's quite a complicated relationship. We have had a break from each other, and we are still incredibly close. I'm vulnerable. It's not on, it's not off, it's somewhere in the middle. I don't know if I will ever get married, but I am happy."
This is a far cry from when Cowell called Hussainy "The One" on the British show "Piers Morgan's Life Stories" in 2010. As for that moment, he says, "I have been pretty good about not talking about my private stuff, but I got caught up in the moment."

Australian entertainer Rolf Harris broke down in tears during a TV interview as he opened up about his battle with depression and his troubled personal life.
The veteran star wept during a chat with Piers Morgan in which he described leaving his wife Alwen alone to fly to the U.S. for work just hours after the birth of their daughter Bindi in 1964.
He says, "The baby was due and eventually, the night before I was expected to fly out to America, she was induced. I didn't know I could pull out of the contract. You don't at that age... It's an awful sadness. Two weeks later she flew into New York and I didn't recognise her. She had dyed her blonde hair brown. Guilty on all counts, your honour. I regret the time I missed with Bindi growing up. I avoid things, I steer around things, like my father."
Harris, 81, admits he later struggled with depression after his cartoon TV show was axed, and the blow left him feeling as if his "life was over."
He adds, "I didn't know what to do with myself. I didn't know what to think. I now know what people mean when they say, 'I've got clinical depression.' I'd never felt so low. There's no way to come out of the blackness. I felt out of control.
"I remember my family said they didn't know who I was. They said I was a total stranger. They had never seen me like this before. They had to walk around on tenterhooks. It was such a black period. It was just like my life was over.
"At the time my manager took me to a meeting about another programme. I sat there like a zombie through the meeting."
Harris was interviewed as part of British TV show Piers Morgan's Life Stories.
