Watch the story of history's greatest gladiator unfold with graphic violence and the passions of the women that love them. This is Spartacus.
The season 1 title "Blood and Sand" shares it's title with Blood and Sand (1941) a sports drama film about bullfighter Juan Gallardo (Tyrone Power). "Blood and Sand" depicts Spartacus's enslavement and his rise as a champion gladiator.
The characters frequently address Batiatus, among others, using the form of address "Dominus" (Lord). In Latin, the proper form of this word used when addressing an individual would be in the vocative case, and should instead be "Domine."
During the series run, each episode has shots from the season as the background while the credits roll. The pictures in the background vary depending on the season. The exception to this being the series finale where a montage of the characters are displayed.
