Following clues to the origin of mankind, a team finds a structure on a distant moon, but they soon realize they are not alone.
Rafe Spall later appeared in The World's End (2013) which made reference to the Alien franchise. It also features humans revealed to be androids, one of which was Martin Freeman, who shares the role of Bilbo Baggins with Ian Holm from the original Alien (1979).
Near the end of the movie Shaw enters the lifeboat and she is carrying an axe. When the Engineer enters and attacks her the axe is gone. However, you can clearly see the axe in Shaw's right hand as the Engineer enters the pod and confronts her (Shaw's back is to the camera). Shaw then drops the axe as the Engineer lunges towards her. You can even hear it hitting the floor.
The opening title appears in the piece-by-piece fashion of the original Alien (1979) movie.
