There was a subdued and deliberate pace to the action of "Deceitful Dating" that resulted in sustaining dramatic tension in the tumultuous household of the Logans.
John Logan is a six-month widower raising his teenage daughter Chelsea and young Sophie. Jillian was the best friend of deceased wife, and she has helped in the transition following the tragic death. There is also the hint that she may have had a brief tryst with John.
Into this world, John starts to warm up to a new neighbor, Alice, who has a mysterious past. The actor playing John was extremely effective in his quiet, thoughtful, yet firm manner in examining the evidence and placing his trust in Alice.
Three women in this drama suffered considerable pain due to the men in their lives. Chelsea's boyfriend cheats on her with her best friend Rose. Jillian's ex-husband's brutal treatment of her ended in divorce. Alice's ex-husband, Toby Perkins, was so oppressive that Alice opted to go into a witness protection program and change her identity. One of the characters asserts appropriately that a lesson to be learned is "nobody's a doormat." But the major dramatic question, is one of them also a killer?
The film was also exceptionally directed with oblique camera angles, pacing, and scoring. The cast was first-rate in trusting the concept of this domestic drama that included important themes of trust, betrayal, and, ultimately, love.
