Wallace, who is burned out from a string of failed relationships, forms an instant bond with Chantry, who lives with her longtime boyfriend. Together, they puzzle out what it means if your best friend is also the love of your life.
Hey... I need to wear something to this company dinner with our production partners in Taiwan. What do you think?
Wallace: I think that's quite a dress.
Chantry: Do you think it's, like, a little too slutty for me?
Wallace: No. Nothing is too slutty for you.
(at around 13 mins) Wallace explains what "Fools Gold" is. He talks of coating the inside with an entire jar of peanut butter as well as a jar of jam. After that, you see Chantry typing an email to Wallace, below which you can see Wallace's original email about Fools Gold. This email, however, doesn't talk about a jar of peanut butter. Just jam.
The beginning of the closing credits are done with Chantry's animations telling some of the story of the movie as well as some of the back story.
