The Chase is one of those classic style of game shows. It doesn't rely on lots of rules and flashing lights in order to gain your attention as a viewer and instead is more about the contestants and the cheeky chappie persona of the host Bradley Walsh as they take on the Chaser.

The Chasers themselves make the game what it is and everyone has their favourite in a sort of love to hate way. From the smug and deadpan wit of Mark to the smooth customer in Shaun every chaser battles each contestant with ease as they try to bring their money back home.

ITV have struck gold with this simple format and loyal audience following so here's hoping it begins to get the attention that it deserves.

    Warning: Spoilers
I was for a while not really interested in this teatime kind of scheduled game show, but I saw more and more of the final stage of the programme that I decided to give the whole thing a chance, and now I am hooked. Hosted by Bradley Walsh, this sees four contestants (or celebrities) playing to win a shared jackpot. Each player steps up to the podium and answers as many questions correctly as possible, with each answer gaining £1,000. They then face The Chaser, a quiz genius with great knowledge for most general knowledge, and the Chasers are Mark Labbett aka 'The Beast' and 'Beastie Boy', Shaun Wallace aka 'The Dark Destroyer' and 'The Barrister', Anne Hegerty aka 'The Governess' and 'Frosty Knickers' and Paul Sinha aka 'The Sinnerman' and 'The Sinner Winner'. The Chaser will offer them a smaller cash reward to get closer to home, and a larger cash reward taking them further from home, and when they decide which to go for they have four, five or six steps to take, answering questions with three options, to get home and bank the money. If the player chooses a right answer they move a step, as does The Chaser, and if one of the two gets a question wrong they stay where they are, if the player reaches home the money is safe and if The Chaser catches them they lose the money and are out of the game and won't go forward to The Final Chase. The players left in the game, however many that is, have their jackpot of whatever money that has been banked, and The Final Chase sees them answer as many questions in the two minute time limit as possible to gain steps that The Chaser has to take to catch them, an automatic amount of steps is for how many players remain. The Chaser gets the same amount of time to take their steps, but if he/she gets a question wrong the team has a chance to push them back one step if they get the answer right, so if The Chaser catches the team they lose all the money and go home with nothing, and if they don't they win ans split the jackpot winnings. This is a good fun game show to test your general knowledge as you can play along answering the questions you may know the answers to, and you can enjoy the amusing mean put-downs by The Chasers, and Walsh is a good choice as the host, most watchable light entertainment. Very good!

I really enjoy watching this show on an afternoon, i like the host and the "chasers", i think it really is a good game show, i don't usually like them but this one is great. Interesting and just overall fun to watch.

The big final chase at the end is a good part of the show, makes it more fun to watch, i think sometimes the money offers are a bit too low... SOMETIMES, to say the contestant did so well on the cash builder.

I look forward to seeing more of the chase.

    Deserves a 7 / 10.
  • We LOVE watching The Chase every night here in NZ. The latest Family Chase and the Celebrity Chase are especially funny. However, we have noticed on a number of shows lately the background music almost drowns out Bradley or the competitors. Please adjust the sound down so we can continue to enjoy the show :)
  • Not for the faint-hearted LOL You sit on the edge of your seat barracking for the contestants to beat "The Beast" Questions not too easy, and prob not too hard overall IF you live in the UK, but as an Australian I find a lot of questions re people and places known more to the locals of the United Kingdom and close surrounding countries well out of my wealth of knowledge! The format of both quick questions and multiple choice makes it a fun challenge to play along. Great to sit back at 3pm each weekday (or taped, over weekend) with a strong cup of tea... but you can easily forget to drink it as you get sucked deep into "The Chase"! A lot of fun and games. Easily the BEST WEEKDAY QUIZ on afternoon TV here in Australia! I give it a big thumbs up!!😉👍

    Warning: Spoilers
Sure, the prize money is not in the hundreds and thousands of pounds, but still, the relatively simple format and the charm of host Bradley "Law and Order UK" Walsh make this show a success.

The Beast and The Governess are also in the Australian Chase, and The Beast is in the US version.

I have no problem with a contestant going low, as it helps to have as many people as possible in the final chase which can be exciting and suspenseful and then some. One of the most spectacular episodes was when the sole contestant managed to beat a chaser to win 60,000 pounds!!!!!!!
  • Really enjoy this program.

2 biggest factors for its success is 1. The host, and 2. The Chasers.

    1. The host and how he hosts are a huge factor. He never says too much, but is brilliant at being a common man and playing off the contestants. I've seen other international versions where the host makes it about themselves instead of the contestants. He doesn't move around much, either, so the focus remains on the contestants. Just standing there, arms across your chest, as you read the questions is an underappreciated ability. He'll always be on the contestants side, where the rapport is evident, but still remains jovial with the chasers without taking much of the spotlight. Bradley Walsh can be polarizing due to his personality being that of a non-actor, but for this show, it fits perfectly.

    2. The Chasers, as Mark Liebett has said in an interview, are not the best quizzers in the UK. The producers won't look for the best either, because the best can be boring. They look for good quizzers who have a personality and can play a villainous role. All their vollainous roles and nicknames suit their personality. Mark 'The Beast' - Aggressively competitive while being tall and girthy. All the characteristics of a beast in chase mode. Anne 'Frosty Knickers' - Cold and emotionless, which fits perfectly with an ASD sufferer who almost always struggle to react with and to emotions. Shaun 'Dark Destroyer' - While the 'dark' part could be a racial issue, I think it's more to do with being a lawyer and lawyers have a dark soul. He will destroy contestants when he's on, like when he got 17 questions right in 1:15. Paul 'The Smiling Assassin' - He's a comedian and is the most friendly of the chasers. He'll often crack jokes and make sarcastic remarks while winning.

All the Chasers, bar Shaun to an extent, are acting to their natural personality, and it fits the show's premise, which is why this show is so effective even though it's often predictable.

    Well produced and well cast.
  • Yes...its pretty obvious...one second to go and 'Im sorry, your chase is over'. But with close observation the clock not only appears to slow, but also starts slow and appears to hold onto each second for 1.2 seconds...when its required to give the chaser an advantage. Then speeds up when the chasers are trying to build their final total score. Has anyone else noticed this???
  • By far and away the best. The Australian version has Andrew O'Keefe thinking folks watch just for him. Talks too fast, speaks in ridiculous accents and waves his hand around like a conductor. Also talks over contestants when they are speaking. At least Ch7 have now fired him. Bradley is the epitome of game show hosts. Funny and very laid back.
  • I love this program. Watch it every day. Until we get The Chasers.advertising here in New Zealand that we must get another Pfizer booster. We are loosing freedom of choice here so don't get mixed up with it. So very disappointed.

Love the show in Australia and the UK. Why the hell is that stupid pointless rating higher than this show. Ridiculous. The Chase is a great game show.

I really think that in the final chase the questions should be the same. Whilst the chasers are answering, the chasers ears are covered. As it is now, the Chasers questions always seem easier. I think it would be fairer if there were no 'A' or'B' questions, just the same set.

This is so much better than Australian version Bradley doesn't need to gibbitz, flail his hands about, speak like a six year old & forcibly laugh like a nutcase over everyone else.Australian one unwatchable this one makes up for it
  • It's funny, it's entertaining, the questions are insane, 10/10 more entertaining than this morning

Please get rid of that Bradley. He's too full of himself. Always has to give his opinion on the answers but is he the contestant? Most of the time he is wrong!! What annoys me the most is when he asks questions to the contestants and doesn't give them time to answers and asks the next question - as if he's interested! Hate the guy he has had his time on this game. We need someone new and with a better sense of humour. Also he needs to read the questions a bit better - doesn't pronounce the words clearly. Oh and his french is appalling!

I find it strangely funny when the very good players often lose. Could this game be fixed? It makes you wonder.
  • The Chase seems to have been running for ages, and in all honesty, it's still the best gameshow on TV by a mile, the formula just works. A few new chasers have joined, but essentially they've left it unchanged.

It doesn't matter which Chaser faces the contestants, they each have so much to offer. The banter is always great, and Bradley is a wonderful presenter, he's just got it.

I hope it goes in for years to come, it's a cracking show. 9/10.
  • Utter disgusting behaviour by the chaser (who is pretty useless) who made a political statement this evening that should NOT have been shown.

No matter how you may wish to avoid the truth this is a family show that should and could have removed the disgraceful biased comment regarding the PM.

I like the bit where her name sounded likefanny smeller.
  • The best thing on TV, hands down. Would only be better if Bradley was the chaser, presenter and contestants. X
  • Warning: Spoilers
The show is perfect but the knew COVID measures make the stage look all extended and thicc and weird. Bit like when you move a picture to make it fill the page not by using it diagonal and it looks weird. Hard to explain but apart from that, amazing show!
  • I wish Anne Haggerty would get her facts right about the Welsh language. She said that she lived in South Wales and that they do not speak Welsh in South Wales. How ignorant. Welsh is spoken all over Wales and beyond.

    2/10
    tired
this game show ends very fast if there are only 2 or less players are left forget it they almost always fail so after 10 minutes its all over I don't give it much more viewing time than this once the first player goes it becomes a downward spiral its just not worth watching perhaps making it 6 players instead of 4 the chasers are professionals after all but change would work

Been watching this for some time now even though I live in the U. S. I haven't watched game shows in years, but this brings back the fun and excitement lacking in American game shows. Bradley Walsh is a great host and extremely personable. Even the contestants are fun. I watch reruns of this all day long, that's how much I like it. The American version is awful.

This show is definitely much better than tenable and catchphrase.
  • All the chasers have their own quirk, no matter who is chasing it will be an enjoyable show. They couldn't have picked a better host either. The pacing of the show is good and have a mix of challenging and easy questions.
