Delta has a new flight safety video chock full of internet nostalgia. On May 20, 2015, the airline released a new video called “The Internetest Safety Video on the Internet,” which highlights everything from screaming goats to the Annoying Orange.
Delta’s internet-themed safety video contains references to some of the web’s most popular memes, videos, and icons since the digital highway’s inception. The keyboard cat, dramatic chipmunk, Gavin Free of the Slow Mo Guys, and overly-attached girlfriend all make appearances. Internet phenomenons like the Als Ice Bucket Challenge and the Harlem Shake are also included.
Delta’s safety video ends with the “Will It Blend?” Blendtech guy giving viewers the option to watch several “blended” versions of the safety video. These feature even more internet names and faces, like Epic Meal Time, Lohanthony, and the “I Like Turtles” kid.

In 2012, Nabisco (a subsidiary of food conglomerate Mondelez) decided to rebrand Fig Newtowns by shortening the name of the iconic snack cookie to just “Newtons.” Three years later, Mondelez is continuing its quest to let consumers known that Newtons come in more flavors than just fig. Office workers with anthropomorphic fruit heads take center stage in Now We’re Newtons, a web series about the ongoing Newtons rebrand.
The protagonist of Now We’re Newtons is a fig-headed office drone whose family has worked at Fig Newtons since the snack’s 19th-century inception. In modern times, he is joined by several other fruits, including a raspberry, a strawberry, and an apple. The series begins with as the “Fig” portion of the company’s name is removed from a sign in its office.
The following episodes feature plenty of fruit puns and office infighting among the Newtons team. It’s the answer to the question,...

6th Update, Monday Actuals, 3:20 Pm: Paramount’s SpongeBob SquarePants: Sponge Out Of Water came in with $635K less than its weekend estimate reported yesterday of $56M. Still, it’s a great gross for this time of year, especially when there aren’t a lot of kids out of school. Per Rentrak, only 1% of all K-12 and college students were off this Friday. That figure moves to 17% this Friday, and then 15% for the February 20-22 frame.
As reported this morning, Warner Bros./Village Roadshow’s Jupiter Ascending dropped ducats and is now filing $18.37M while Universal/Legendary’s Seventh Son is a $100K better with a $7.2M actual. They’re in for a hammering this coming weekend as two R-rated mass-appeal pics hit the sked: Universal’s long-awaited E.L. James bestselling adaptation Fifty Shades Of Grey at an estimated 3,600 theaters and 20th Century Fox’s Kingsman: The Secret Service on...

The man behind one of YouTube's biggest web series believes his partner network is about to go belly up, and before that happens, he wants to get paid. A lawyer representing Dane Boedigheimer, the creator of The Annoying Orange, has filed a petition in Los Angeles Superior Court ordering The Collective Digital Studio to arbitration.
The news of Boedigheimer's lawsuit comes from The Hollywood Reporter, which shared some choice excerpts from the relevant court papers. In them, Boedigheimer, who is one of the most successful creators within the Collective Digital Studio multi-channel network, claims the McN is not holding up its end of the deal. "For months, The Collective has refused to pay Boedigheimer and his production company, Annoying Orange, Inc., any revenue generated from the exploitation of The Annoying Orange and other content and has kept all of the revenues for itself," reads the suit.

It's no secret that YouTube stars have gotten so successful, they are being courted by Hollywood managers, agents and producers. With burgeoning popularity comes business headaches, like that of One Management's digital distribution division, which allegedly has hit such hard times that it has refused to turn over revenue. The ramifications, according to court papers filed on Tuesday by Dane Boedigheimer (aka "Daneboe"), is the possible end to The Annoying Orange, which attracted such a large following that it was picked up by Cartoon Network. The Janome Sewing Machine Co.’s 2008 model TB-30 was ahead of it’s time. Its 30 actual stitches, six one-step buttonholes, built-in one-hand needle threader, and laundry list of other features weren’t what set this affordable prosumer tool for the budding fashionista apart from its contemporaries. It was its more superficial accessories. The Janome TB-30 was perhaps the first physical consumer product endorsed, branded, marketed, and promoted by an online video entity. Way back in August 2008, the still independent Next New Networks (which is now the Google-owned YouTube Next Lab) and its “Not Yo Mama’s Diy Channel” Threadbanger (which is still cranking out videos at its home on YouTube) partnered with one of the leading manufacturers of sewing machines worldwide to put their literal stamp of approval on a product and help sell it to their hip, online video savvy, and presumably younger-ish audience. Yes, early-and-mid-to-late 2000s online video...

A European multi-channel network is bringing a German invasion to Los Angeles. Studio71, whose partner channels include some of Germany's most popular YouTube creators, has expanded into the Us with a channel called The Mansion that will be "a reality show for YouTube." The Mansion's channel trailer has a distinct Real World vibe to it, albeit will a more comedic edge. The titular "mansion" is a comfortable Los Angeles house where some of Germany's top YouTube stars have convened to hang out and make videos. The Mansion's inhabitants will be unknown to American viewers, but they have built huge fan bases in their native country. For instance, the channel's most popular creator, Gronkh, has nearly three million subscribers. While The Mansion's current cast is an all-Teutonic one, some American YouTube stars will show up as well. Studio71's parent company, ProSiebenSat.1, recently bought a 20% stake in Collective Digital Studios. Thanks to that deal,...

Collective Digital Studio (Cds) has landed a big investment. The ProSiebenSat.1 Group, a German media company, has acquired a 20% stake in the leading multi-channel network. Through the deal, ProSiebenSat.1 will get its hands on a company that, according to the press release, scores "a billion video views per month with 600 channels and more than 100 million subscribers." The deal will synergize those channels (among which are online video personalities and hits like Epic Meal Time, Annoying Orange, Hannah Hart, and Freddie Wong) with ProSiebenSat.1's own multi-channel network, Studio71, which launched last year and now claims more than 100 million views a month, mostly in Germany. Red Arrow Entertainment, a production studio under the ProSiebenSat.1 banner, will specifically purchase the stake in Cds. “With the ProSiebenSat.1 investment, Cds has gained a strategic partner that will enable us to monetize the global reach of our content as well as tap into the Red...

Germany’s ProSiebenSat.1 Group is bolstering its digital and production business with the acquisition of a 20% stake in Collective Digital Studio. The U.S.-based multichannel network produces, distributes, and markets video content via digital platforms. ProSieben, which made the acquisition through subsid Red Arrow Entertainment, says Cds gets about 1 billion video views per month on its 600 channels and has more than 100 million subscribers. Its properties include The Annoying Orange and Video Game High School. It also develops formats in the action, beauty & lifestyle, comedy, kids & family, and music genres. The acquisition follows a raft of U.S. investments by Red Arrow which recently bought Say Yes To The Dress maker Half Yard Prods, and also owns Kinetic Content, Fabrik Entertainment and Left/Right Prods. Via the Cds stake, ProSieben/Red Arrow will have access to the rapidly growing global online video market and a roster of international talent. Last year,...

Peter Griffith is turning to TV for the money he can’t make on YouTube. The CEO of Alchemy Networks has a half-hour show debuting on Bounce TV Monday night. “Brkdwn” features two hosts riffing on news like Lamar Odom’s divorce. It’s a swift jump for a show that’s less than a year old and has a relatively small subscription base. While a handful of successful online properties have already made the jump to TV, including the Annoying Orange on Cartoon Network and AwesomenessTV on Nickelodeon, they earned those shows after developing massive subscribers bases on YouTube.

The Annoying Orange is transforming his YouTube channel into an online TV network. The Orange, created by Dane Boedigheimer, will launch two new regularly scheduled shows on its popular channel, complementing its flagship show “Annoying Orange.” One new show, “The Misfortune of Being Ned,” debuts Wednesday while another, “Gusto Rules,” will appear in January, the Collective Digital Studio announced Tuesday. Cds represents many of the top channels on YouTube, including Annoying Orange, Freddie Wong and Epic Meal Time. The goal with these shows is to give the channel’s 3.3 million subscribers more reasons to return on a regular basis – and to.

Now that it's done riffing on Breaking Bad, the Annoying Orange YouTube channel is making a big-time expansion into original content. Two new animated programs will join Dane Boedingheimer's flagship fruit-fest on the popular YouTube hub, with a number of notable YouTube personalities grabbing the starring roles in stick figure series The Misfortune Of Being Ned, a new creation from the Annoying Orange team. The Misfortune of Being Ned brings The Annoying Orange's young fans to the world of Ned, an exuberant young boy who is prone to deaths befitting Kenny from South Park. SourceFed's Steve Zaragoza will provide the voice of Ned, with his former coworker Kevin Brueck, recent Stylehaul signee Strawburry17 (Aka Meghan Camarena), and regular Annoying Orange voice Bob Jennings included in the cast as well. In January, The Annoying Orange will debut a second series aligned with the interests of its fans. It will serve...

Hey, did you know that Breaking Bad is about to air its final episode? Since access to this website requires an Internet connection, I'm sure you've heard about it. Millions of fans are ready to send it off in style, and one Internet tribute has come from perhaps the unlikely of shows: The Annoying Orange. The latest episode of Dane Boedingheimer's web series is a typically cartoony romp intended for kids, with one important difference: the entire show is themed around Breaking Bad. As voice actor Bob Jennings explains, "We here at Annoying Orange may be doing a kids show - but gosh darnit we love us some Breaking Bad too!" The result is an episode about a character named Walter Eggwhite who gets himself into some legal trouble in the kitchen. Again, this is a show that gets most of its ammo from silly fruit puns. We learn early...

The Annoying Orange's latest cross-platform effort will teach the series' typically young fans How to Be Annoying. Dane Boedingheimer's purposefully irritating fruit is now the star of his own joke book published by Harper Collins. Annoying Orange: How to Be Annoying is aimed at kids ages six to ten and will certainly feature the same class of groaners for which the Annoying Orange web series and subsequent TV show are famous. The book is available at all conventional retailers (Amazon, Barnes and Noble, etc.) and is the first of six Annoying Orange titles Harper Collins plans to release between now and Easter 2015. “A breakout hit among the grade school set, Annoying Orange has a huge following among young fans of the web and television shows,” says David Linker, Executive Editor at HarperCollins. “We look forward to developing this new publishing program for young readers who revel in his...

Has any channel benefited more from the increased popularity of YouTube prank shows than Break? In the past year, channels like Prank Vs. Prank, Magic of Rahat, and Roman Atwood have scored millions of views, and brands like Dove and Pepsi Max have achieved viral hits in which they 'prank' viewers. While this movement has grown, Break has been able to use its status as a purveyor of the Internet's choicest gags to expand its own audience. In August, Break debuted two new prank shows, Prank Bank and Hanky Pranky, adding to its library of well-executed gotchas. Prank Bank and Hanky Pranky are quite similar, as they each showcase one prank each week. The main distinction between them is the gender of the hosts; Hanky Pranky is hosted by a busty woman while Prank Bank is helmed by Annoying Orange and SourceFed veteran Kevin Brueck. This gender difference is evident...

The second season of Cartoon Network's The High Fructose Adventures Of Annoying Orange has only just begun, but the guest stars are already rolling in. In the upcoming fourth installment of the new batch of episodes, Felicia Day will return to the series, playing an anthropomorphic ginger root. Get it? Day previously appeared on Annoying Orange as Peach, a character who has also been voiced by Shira Lazar in the web series version of the show. Playing a ginger is, however, more fitting more Day; if there's one thing Annoying Orange loves, it's incredibly groan-inducing puns. Other YouTube notables, such as iJustine and Toby Turner, continue to have regular roles on the program, which made the jump to TV in 2012. Annoying Orange continues to draw strong ratings for Cartoon Network, showing that the people who made the web series a smash hit also have access to TVs

First there was Fred, then there was Annoying Orange, and now there may be Smosh. According to Variety, Alloy Digital is talks to cut a TV deal for the top YouTube channel. Per the Variety article, Alloy "is in talks with multiple cable networks about finding a second home for the talent across Smosh’s five channels." TV content from Smosh could be scripted, like the currently successful Annoying Orange Cartoon Network program, or unscripted, which could end up closer to the upcoming script based on Ray William Johnson's life. TV is a logical next step for Smosh, who are pushing the limits of the YouTube audience with their now 10 million-strong subscriber base. The reported TV talks aren't the attempts Smosh has made to expand beyond the Internet. Late last year, rumors arose that Smosh's oeuvre could find its way to a nationwide selection of movie theaters

YouTube's most popular firearms enthusiast has expanded to a second medium. FPSRussia has released Fps Russia: The Game, where players take the role of the Dmitri Potapoff as he fights off waves of baddies. FPSRussia creator Kyle Myers (who puts on a Russian accent to portray Potapoff) launched a Kickstarter campaign for the game back in November, raising more than $55,000 to fund the project. Five months later, the game is available free of charge from the iOS store. The game's premise centers around Potapoff "borrowing money from the wrong people to create a video game for his fans," making it one of the most meta iPhone games around. Obviously, the player must use Potapoff's arsenal of explosives and firearms to defeat enemies. For a fuller explanation of the game's flavor, check out the video Myers released alongside the game's Kickstarter: FPSRussia joins YouTube series such as Epic Meal Time and...

Blip isn’t the only entertainment entity outside of YouTube with which Ray William Johnson is making deals. The 31-year-old with the Third Most-Subscribed YouTube Channel of All-Time just signed the papers that may make him a television star. Lesley Goldberg at the Hollywood Reporter broke the news FX gave a script commitment to “a comedy inspired by the life of the internet star.” Make Gagerman and Andrew Waller will write the script, who along with with Dave Becky and Troy Zien will executive produce. Johnson will also receive a co-creator credit. Should it get picked up for a full-fledged series, the program will air either on FX or the cable network’s soon-to-launch spinoff Fxx and place Johnson within an elite pantheon of YouTube-turned-tv-stars alongside Lucas Cruikshank (aka Fred) and the Annoying Orange. Regardless of where the series is distributed, executives at FX are undoubtedly hoping Johnson’s fan base tunes in.

The world's most notable anthropomorphic fruit is continuing to make it big on TV. The High Fructose Adventures of Annoying Orange, Cartoon Network's TV adaptation of Dane Boedigheimer's mind-bogglingly popular web series, will return for a second season, which will debut at 7:30 Est on May 16th. The first TV season of Annoying Orange averaged close to two million views an episode, making it one of the most popular cable programs in its timeslot. It was particularly popular with boys ages 6-14, which is not a surprise given the young age of its YouTube audience. Season two will once against center around the titular orange, voiced by Boedigheimer, and will undoubtedly feature many, many fruit puns. Popular YouTubers Toby Turner and iJustine will return as members of the main cast, as will noted voice actors such as Jim Cummings and Tom Kenny. Season one featured many recurring and guest stars,...

When Ian Hecox and Anthony Padilla, a pair of 25-year-olds known as Smosh, posted a silly YouTube video of themselves lip-synching the Pokémon theme song in 2005, they weren’t trying to become Web phenoms. But that’s exactly what happened. The clip went viral, thanks to some incalculable combination of millennial nostalgia and absurdist Internet humor.
Eight years later, Smosh run the most popular channel on YouTube, boasting more than 8.2 million subscribers. The guys also have a Spanish channel, a vlog channel, a cartoon channel, a newly launched gaming channel, and a website/social network (Smosh.com) with exclusive video content and merchandise.

It's only been a little over a day since the 3rd Streamy Awards concluded, but plenty of YouTubers have already taken to their vlogging equipment to post Streamys-related video. Here is a taste of what we've seen so far. Of course, the official Streamys channel has been the most active when it comes to video from the big event. We've already shared some of the speeches and performances, but keep in mind there's also a full complement of backstage interviews featuring presenters and winners. Did you know Harley Morenstein is the "Elijah Wood of the Ez-Bake Oven"? Also, Ken Marino might've been a tad drunk. SourceFed are super happy about their win for Series of the Year. They would also like Chris Hardwick to give them a hosting workshop. Also, theirs is a nice rundown of what happened at the Streamys, just in case you don't trust our admittedly biased synopses.

We all know the idyllic Christmastime scene. Cookies are baking in the oven, snow is falling gently in the yard, everyone is wearing their ugly Christmas sweaters, and The Annoying Orange is playing on the stereo. Yeah, you heard that right. The four producers behind the crazy popular Annoying Orange series - Dane Boedigheimer, Bob Jennings, Spencer Grove and Aaron Massey - have released a Yuletide album, titled Christmas in the Kitchen, featuring all of the popular characters from the kitchen singing their holiday favorites with (in)appropriately and punny updated lyrics. The album is admittedly a bit skimpy, clocking in at a mere 18:31. However, if you know a big Annoying Orange fan, it makes a great stocking stuffer, (as do the popular YouTube and Cartoon Network franchise's many other branded efforts). Most of the songs are Christmas classics, though one original song, 'Christmas is for Giving', has been written for the album.

The Annoying Orange's success in both the web series and TV format is beginning to pay some big-time dividends. After seeing strong ratings and an Emmy nomination, the Annoying Orange TV show will air a 'generic holiday special' featuring four well-known guest stars. Glam rockers Alice Cooper and Bret Michaels will appear along with Today correspondent Maria Menounos and spoof musician 'Weird Al' Yankovic. We can only guess that, as with previous Annoying Orange holiday installments, our intrepid fruity heroes will learn the meaning of the holiday spirit and will probably make a bunch of puns along the way. The four featured guests are the latest in a long line of high-profile celebrities who have appeared on the Cartoon Network program. Previous guests have included Malcolm McDowell, Jane Lynch, Jim Parsons, and Tim Curry, among many others. In addition, several big names in the online video world,...

[Editor's Note: The First Drafts Series is a Tubefilter column that highlights and critiques the first online videos from the world's greatest online video stars. Check out previous editions of Fds here.] Before their Annoying Orange smash hit eviscerated fruit and scored a TV deal with Cartoon Network (not to mention licensing deals with Toys “R” Us and JCPenney), North Dakota natives Dane Boedigheimer and Spencer Grove created Donkey Kong: The Movie, a smartly executed, geek-tastic clip that humorously mocks old media action-thrillers: So what can we learn from Dane and Spencer’s seeds of greatness? 1. Anyone can animate. Dk:tm features a green-screened guy overlayed on a colorful moving background similar to the one in the game, using a simple image editor to create early 1990’s block video game level graphics. The lesson is that you don’t have to be a fine artist or endure a millennium of painstaking labor animating your magnum opus frame-by-frame. Instead, there are some really nifty programs such as After Effects and Photoshop that can transform an ordinary object (such as an orange) into a network-worthy character.

Finally, a slasher for the cyber-obsessed generation we live in, knowledgeably created by the geekers that have amassed millions of YouTube views in an effort to rule the internet.
Director Michael J. Gallagher is responsible for the comedy channel “Totally Sketch,” Shane Dawson you may recognize from “Shane Dawson TV,” and Toby Turner of “The Annoying Orange” fame all provide social commentary about the 4chan viewing, meme-crazed teenagers who waste hours surfing the internet. Smiley is their techie brain-child which exploits the internet’s wicked ways, creating a slasher villain who brings “trolling” to horrific new heights. This is what happens when doing it for the “lulz” goes wrong, and when emoticons attack.
So for those lost in today’s current trend of LOLcats, memes, YouTube sensations, misspelled text, made up words, and the art of “trolling,” consider yourself far outside the intended demographic of Smiley. Stuffed with internet jokes...
