Mojo Nixon, the cult rockabilly musician best known for his novelty hit “Elvis Is Everywhere,” died on Wednesday, February 7th while aboard the Outlaw Country Cruise. He was 66 years old.
Mojo Nixon suffered a “a cardiac event,” according to a statement provided by his family to Rolling Stone.
“Mojo Nixon was full-tilt, wide-open rock hard, root hog, corner on two wheels + on fire…,” eulogized his family. “Passing after a blazing show, a raging night, closing the bar, taking no prisoners + a good breakfast with bandmates and friends. A cardiac event on the Outlaw Country Cruise is about right… & that’s just how he did it, Mojo has left the building. Since Elvis is everywhere, we know he was waiting for him in the alley out back. Heaven help us all.”

The Outlaw Country Cruise 7 set sail this month from Miami with a wild, crazy, and mostly tattooed cast of musical pirates aboard. Perennial cruisers Steve Earle, the Mavericks, Lucinda Williams, and Elizabeth Cook joined new blood like Mike and the Moonpies, Vandoliers, and Joshua Ray Walker for five days of concerts, interviews, and all-star jams curated by Sixthman, Renegade Circus, and SiriusXM’s Outlaw Country. Here’s what it looked like aboard the Norwegian Pearl.

This weekend, Steve Earle devotes an entire episode of his Hardcore Troubadour Radio show on SiriusXM’s Outlaw Country to the memory of Billy Joe Shaver, who died Wednesday at 81. Earle wrote the liner notes for Shaver’s last album, 2014’s Long in the Tooth, and he reads from those words in tribute to the Texas songwriter.
“If God ever woke up and decided that he was going to make himself a songwriter it was on the morning of August 16th, 1939,” Earle says, noting the date of Shaver’s birth...

In 2017, Justin Townes Earle made a rare appearance with his father Steve Earle on the elder’s SiriusXM’s Hardcore Troubadour Radio. Justin was there to promote his blues album Kids in the Street. It resulted in a fascinating conversation where Steve recalled the day he heard his son playing Nirvana’s Unplugged — and saw an opportunity to introduce Justin to Lightnin’ Hopkins and Leadbelly. Steve said how happy he was to see his son channeling the blues on his new album.

“You can only guess who that might be about,” Lucinda Williams said after a scorching performance of her new song “Man Without a Soul” aboard the fifth annual Outlaw Country Cruise last week. A droning, guitar-driven track, the song doesn’t mention its subject directly, but as Williams alluded, it’s impossible to not pin the lyrics to the impeached President Trump.

Tanya Tucker’s new album While I’m Livin’ was a triumphant return for the living country legend, whose last studio album came way back in 2003. Tucker joined fellow outlaw artist Elizabeth Cook at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum on Friday for a special AmericanaFest interview and performance, where the two swapped stories and Tucker performed a handful of tracks from her new LP.
The interview will air on SiriusXM’s Outlaw Country channel, for whom Cook hosts her own long-running radio show, in the coming weeks.

Even without the comfy chairs and floor lamp to set the mood, once Buddy and Julie Miller took the stage Wednesday night at Nashville’s City Winery it was as if they had invited the audience into their living room. Backed by a small group of musicians including Colin Linden on guitar, the couple delivered a brisk and blissful 45-minute set consisting mainly of songs from their recently released album, Breakdown on 20th Ave. South, which takes its name from the street on which their actual living room is situated.

A series adaptation of the novel “An Anonymous Girl” is in the early development stages at USA Network, Variety has learned exclusively.
eOne acquired the rights to the book prior to its publication in January. Written by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen, the best-selling book follows Jessica Farris, who signs up for a psychology study conducted by the mysterious Dr. Shields. She thinks all she’ll have to do is answer a few questions, collect her money, and leave. But as the questions grow more intense and invasive and the sessions become outings where Jess is told what to wear and how to act, she begins to feel as though Dr. Shields may know what she’s thinking–and what she’s hiding.
Josh Goldin and Rachel Abramowitz will pen and executive produce the adaptation, with Hendricks and Pekkanen also onboard as executive producers. eOne will produce.

2018 was one of the biggest years in John Prine’s nearly 50-year career. The cult songwriter scored a number five album with The Tree of Forgiveness, which ended up on many year end-lists, and he played more than 50 concerts including a headlining show at New York’s Radio City Music Hall. He is wrapping it up with a New Year’s Eve concert in his hometown of Nashville, at the Grand Ole Opry with friends Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats and Iris Dement, who are likely to join Prine during his set.

Mike Judge is behind a new TV show this month, with Cinemax’s “Mike Judge Presents: Tales from the Tour Bus,” an animated eight-episode series looking into the lives and times behind some iconic country music performers.
Some of these folks are household names from Nashville to Norway, but others are lesser-known figures from the country music world. They all have distinct styles and, as “Mike Judge Presents: Tales from the Tour Bus” shows, they all led very different lives away from the stage.
We’ll leave the prime anecdotes and animated hijinks to the experts (the series premieres Friday, September 22 at 10pm Et/Pt on Cinemax), but in the meantime, here’s a primer on the musicians that make up the backbone of this illustrated look at country music history.

When the original “Law & Order” was cancelled in 2010, people took the news hard. So hard, in fact, that the decades-spanning procedural was mourned publicly on the very network that cancelled it:
“I, for one, love cop shows,” Tracy Jordan says on “30 Rock” (Season 5, Episode 3, “Let’s Stay Together”). “I can’t wait for ‘Law & Order’ to come back,” he adds, right before Grizz whispers in his ear, breaking the bad news.
“Why? It was a tentpole! A tentpole!!” Tracy screams.
Seven years later, he’s not wrong. Though only one of the four spinoffs is still on the air — “Law & Order: Svu” returns September 27 on NBC — the franchise remains a memorable part of the cultural landscape, with its format, music, characters, and storytelling still easily identifiable to millions of viewers. Its influence on other series cannot be understated, including the hit limited series the latest “Law & Order” spinoff is emulating.

Although DC’s Legends of Tomorrow certainly won over many viewers with its first season, it could be argued that it really started to live up to its potential in the second. Sure, Vandal Savage certainly made for a formidable adversary and it was cool to see the time traveling series utilize beloved characters such as Jonah Hex, but seeing as how this is a team-up show, it only made sense that a cadre of villains unite to confound the Waverider crew.

The streak continues with another solid episode, as Archer Season 8 Episode 2 shines the spotlight on Archer and Cheryl.
Honestly, I can't tell you the last time I enjoyed Cheryl this much in a single episode.
Of all the different themes that this show has visited, this is easily the best take of Cheryl.
Cheryl isn't my favorite character. While I find her insanity hilarious, there were times in the past few seasons where she just became too much for me.
I did not enjoy her iteration as country singer Cherlene (I found "Outlaw Country!" grating), and, to be truthful, I don't remember her being that outstanding in Archer Season 5 or when they joined the FBI.
Cheryl Vandertunt, publishing heiress, is an incredibly interesting version of the character. There are things about her that remain the same: her penchant for sadomasochism, her flight of thought and flippant tangentially. Typical Cheryl.

This was our very special Thanksgiving episode, minus the turkey and trimmings.
With all the team bonding goin' on during DC's Legends of Tomorrow Season 2 Episode 6, it was about as family oriented as we're ever going to get, don't you think?
While the trip back to Outlaw Country was really kind of boring, all things considered, the relationship bits were a whole lot of fun, because even when Nate gets a little uppity in his superhero ways, his enthusiasm is contagious.
This was, to me, another installment to allow the newbies to shine.
After all, we've already been to the old west. Ray had his experience, being the one place he'd always wanted to go. And with nothing left to give at the moment, he's taking on the big brother role with Nate.
Because, really, before this hour, it's just been poor Ray. What the heck does The Atom do without an Atom suit?...

A standalone episode coming so close to the biggest Damien Darhk and Eobard Thawne episode is a bit weird, but considering everything on Legends of Tomorrow, it is likely to get thrown around by the big CW crossover in two weeks and it is probably for the best. It also helps that "Outlaw Country" is a fun, if pretty disposable, episode.

The Reverse-Flash has revealed himself, and that's left the Legends reeling, so to take a beat they decide to lay low in the Old West where they re-encounter their old friend Jonah Hex, who recruits the new-and-improved team for a mission to take down Quentin Turnbull and his nefarious gang. The team pairs off, with Amaya joining Rory (who's thrilled to be back in the time of the lawless), and with Nate, Ray, & Jax trying to infiltrate Turnbull's ranks, but falling just short. Check out the new extended promo for episode six, titled "Outlaw Country," below: “Outlaw Country” — (8:00-9:00 p.m. Et) (Content Rating Tbd) (HDTV) Strength And Weakness — The Legends are still reeling from the news that their time travel-nemesis is a speedster when they are alerted to an Aberration in the Old West. Four out of five isn't bad. In fact, it's fantastic.
That's the excellent episodes over the average so far during during Legends' sophomore season, and DC's Legends of Tomorrow Season 2 Episode 5 can be added into the rollicking good time column. What a win!
We were ripped off on the brief DC's Legends of Tomorrow Season 1 foray into the '80s, but not this time. Not only did we get fun references and outfits, but we now have a near perfect team to carry out the missions and bring all these decades to life.
Legends was given four additional episodes to its current season for a total of 17. That's good, because "Compromised" finally began building the Legion of Doom.
Considering how long it's taking, I'm beginning to suspect the Legion itself will not be the big bad as much as the creation of it will be happening in conjunction with the...

Following tonight's 1980s set episode of Legends of Tomorrow, next week's instalment - titled "Outlaw Country" - will take the team back to the Wild West as they once again team up with Jonah Hex. The character starred in an ill fated movie a number of years ago, but the first season of this spinoff series is widely credited with finally doing the hero justice in live-action. Is he going to join the team though?! The Legends are still reeling from the news that their time travel-nemesis is a speedster when they are alerted to an Aberration in the Old West. When the Legends arrive they find their old friend Jonah Hex (guest star Jonathan Schaech) in trouble with his arch-nemesis, Quentin Turnbull (guest star Jeff Fahey). The team soon discovers that they need to stop Turnbull and his gang from conquering the West and branding it his own lawless territory.

The CW has released the first images from next week’s episode of Legends of Tomorrow, and in them we get to see the return of season 1 standout Jonah Hex. The star of his own critically panned feature film a few years back, the series gave him another chance and delivered a version which made comic book fans much happier.
The Wild West setting is always fun, and Legends of Tomorrow will hopefully take full advantage of that. Based on the synopsis below, we can expect plenty of unique pairings as the team splits up and does their own thing. That’s something it handles well on a consistent basis, and for more details on what to expect, here’s what’s on the way in “Outlaw Country.”

Having recently learned what the future holds regarding The Flash and Arrow, it’s time that we turn our attention to sister shows Supergirl and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. And, if these synopses tell us anything, this will be one week of television that no superhero fan will want to miss.
First, let’s start by discussing the November 14 episode of Supergirl, which is aptly titled “Changing.” Not only will a situation that sounds desperate finally give James Olsen the extra push he needs to don his Guardian duds for the first time, but it seems that both Mon-El and Alex will find themselves at respective crossroads.
The Guardian Debuts In National City – The Guardian debuts to lend a hand after a parasite alien drains Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) of her power. Mon-El (Chris Wood) considers a less than desirable new career which then leads him to contemplate his motives.

The Legion of Doom is coming together very slowly in Legends of Tomorrow's second season, but the synopsis for the sixth instalment makes it clear that the team will soon learn that they're squaring off with the Reverse-Flash! That won't be the focus of "Outlaw Country" though as this episode will mark the return of Jonah Hex. However, will he be that welcoming to the team without Rip Hunter? We'll have to wait and see, but the character's appearance was a highlight of season one, so this should be pretty good fun. As per usual, it sounds like Legends of Tomorrow will provide us with some unique team-ups as Vixen is paired up with Heatwave and the newly powered CItizen Steel goes off on a mission with The Atom and one half of Firestorm. What are you guys most excited to see here? Strength And Weakness — The Legends are...

Jon Stewart is approaching the end of his iconic Daily Show run, and he's already planned his next move – with Willie Nelson. The singer dropped by to promote his new memoir, It's a Long Story: My Life – much to the delight of the host, a longtime fan, who asked questions about Nelson's early songwriting, the Outlaw Country movement, his trusted guitar and his love of marijuana.

Wgn America’s originals push continues. The latest step is focused on unscripted, with a pair of docuseries slated to premiere in the first quarter of 2015. Just as the first batch of scripted entries, Salem and Manhattan, tackled different tones and genres, this duo lives at different points on the reality spectrum. There’s half-hour entry Wrestling with Death, centered on a family of morticians by day and professional wrestlers by night, and hour-long Outlaw Country, about two sets of brothers, one in law enforcement and the other who they suspect has caused the small town’s surge in crime.
