Exclusive: Ridley Scott’s Scott Free has appointed Elyse Seder as EVP and Head of Nonfiction and named EVP Marjorie Chodorov Head of Physical Production.
In the newly created role, Seder will oversee creative, talent and partnerships for nonfiction content. Scott Free has ventured into unscripted programming, most recently with the multi-part Still Missing Morgan for Hulu/ABC News this year, but the company hadn’t had a dedicated nonfiction executive or department in more than eight years. Seder’s hire marks an expansion into the arena.
Meanwhile, Chodorov will be in charge of all aspects of physical and post-production for Scott Free’s TV division. She has been with the company since 2021 as EVP Production, with her role now expanding to include nonfiction and international.
Both Seder and Chodorov will report to Scott Free’s Cco David W Zucker, President of Television Clayton Krueger and President of Film Mike Pruss.

July is the month that North America goes back to the movies in earnest. There have already been some theatrical release of note this summer, but as everyone knows the blockbuster movie season doesn’t get started until a Marvel movie premieres. Thankfully, with its list of new releases for July 2021, Disney+ is offering up some options for those who prefer to stay home.
In addition to arriving in theaters on July 9, Black Widow will premiere on Disney+ as well. Disney+ subscribers can purchase the first Marvel movie released since 2019 for $29.99. Judging by the early buzz, that “Premier Access” price may be worth it. Disney+ is keeping the original summer movie parade going in July with The Rock’s latest action film, Jungle Cruise, premiering on July 30.

December 2020 marks 30 years since the release of Home Alone – three decades since Moira from Schitt’s Creek and the crooked cop from The Sopranos forget to take Roman from Succession’s brother to France, so he set fire to Tommy from Goodfellas. If that news has you spiralling into a pit of what-have-i-done-with-my-life despair, you’ll be in need of some distraction.
Here’s a bit of that, with a list of the new additions to Disney + UK this December. On Christmas Day, there’s Pixar’s Soul to look forward to, but before that is the free-to-subscribers debut of the live-action Mulan, plus the ongoing weekly episodes of The Mandalorian and Marvel’s Agents of Shield season seven.
We’ll keep this list updated as more announcements are confirmed.

Could have been assembled entirely from clips from other movies — mostly the Star Wars prequels — and would have been better if it had been. I’m “biast” (pro): nothing
I’m “biast” (con): never hopeful about based-on-videogame movies
(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)
Ah, so there’s my answer, once again.
I was wondering how that standard movie philosophy still applied to me. You know, that standard movie philosophy that is not only the stuff but the actual stuffing of 99 percent of wish-fulfillment genre fantasy movies for decades now. I approached Ratchet & Clank with great anticipation. Can I do anything? Can I be anything I want to be? Am I destined for greatness, to save the world or even the whole galaxy even if I am a foolhardy, thoughtless, unfocused screwup with almost nothing to my name but maybe some undisciplined smarts and outsized aspirations to grandeur?...

Judging Australian films. success or failure by their local B.O. results is unfair and misleading, according to several academics who have devised a new formula for measuring the global impact of individual titles.
Dubbed film impact rating (Fir), the metric assesses films on 14 criteria including the location, volume and saturation of film screenings including film festivals; critic and user ratings, award nominations and wins; and Australian and international B.O. returns and production budget as a percentage of worldwide B.O.
The study.s authors Deb Verhoeven, Alwyn Davidson and Bronwyn Coate tracked 134 Australian films, including co-productions, that screened between December 1 2012 and June 1 2014.
By that yardstick, Saving My Banks had the greatest impact worldwide, narrowly ahead of The Great Gatsby, despite the gap in their total B.O. earnings: $US112.5 million for the Disney film co-produced by Essential Media and Entertainment.s Ian Collie, versus $351 million for Baz.s extravaganza.

VFX work performed by Australian facilities on The Lego Movie, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 and X-Men: Days of Future Past will be eligible for an Aacta award. AFI | Aacta .s new award for best visual effects or animation will recognise outstanding work performed in Australia across feature film, television and documentary, regardless of the origin of the production.
That replaces the Aacta award for best visual effects, which was restricted to Australian productions and was last won by the creative team on The Great Gatsby.
AFI | Aacta CEO Damian Trewhella told If the criteria has been broadened following consultation with post houses and the Visual Effects Society (Ves).

The Australian creative elements involved in Saving Mr Banks and The Book Thief no doubt contributed to impressive openings for both films last weekend.

The feature directing debut of Brian Percival (Downton Abbey), The Book Thief fetched $2.4 million on 241 screens, and $2.61 million with previews. The star power of Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts did not translate to a hefty opening for August: Osage County in Australian cinemas last week.
The John Wells-directed comedy/drama based on a Tracy Letts play raked in $1.4 million from Thursday to Sunday on a fairly wide 217 screens, plus $362,000 on the opening Wednesday.
That was well down in the pecking order of cinemagoers. preferences, trailing the second weekends of Philomena and The Railway Man on per-screen averages.
The saga of a dysfunctional family headed by Streep.s mean-spirited, drug-taking, cancer suffering character, may have been deemed as too confronting or off-putting for multiplex audiences who crave lighter fare.
That view may not just be not a cultural quirk in Australia because the film took a decent but not stellar $US141,000 on five screens in its second outing, for a cumulative total of $483,000, in the Us, where it goes wide next weekend.

From the hearth of BBC Earth Films, "Walking The Dinosaurs" is an edutainment film that educates the audience about animals, particularly the dinosaurs that wandered on the surface of the planet, about 70 million years ago, during the Creataceous period.
This is not a documentary film. In fact, it is a charming love story bordered around the hero's journey of existence. It exposes the dinosaurs' survival instincts in a truthful and convincing manner.
The film starts off with a present-day scene, where Paleontologist.

What happens when a dinosaur stomps his way onto the red carpet? That's exactly what happened during our interviews with Walking with Dinosaurs 3D stars John Leguizamo, Tiya Sircar and Skyler Stone. John handles it pretty well, but Skyler...as the movie says, he might have "feared" in his pants he was so startled! What's so funny is that we Asked them what they would do if they ran into a dinosaur in real life...see if they really reacted like they said they would. Also, check out the dino mayhem and hear some great dino roars in our Walking with Dinosaurs red carpet interviews!

There’s still something so fundamentally awesome about dinosaurs. Go to a dinosaur exhibit sometime — it could be one of those animatronic ones, or just a regular old fossil display — and, as you stand there marveling at the creatures, ask yourself two questions: (1) Can you believe such things existed? and (2) Do you think poop jokes would make the experience more compelling? You’d think it’d be hard to screw up a movie about dinosaurs, and yet Hollywood keeps doing so. Walking With Dinosaurs 3D, an attempt to create a kid-friendly movie tied to the famous 2000 BBC TV series, is but the latest offender. The problem is clear from the very beginning, with its framing device of two young kids who are out on a trip with their paleontologist uncle (Karl Urban). The boy is bored — because there’s nothing that bores young kids as much as, you know,...

Chicago – “Walking with Dinosaurs” depicts the magnificent titular creatures in stunning realism and 3D vision, and then proceeds to give them line readings with the equivalent sophistication of Archie comics. This adds up to an educational film with a long, dull journey ahead.
Rating: 2.5/5.0
This is geared towards the kiddies, with a flight of fancy that becomes teeth-gnashingly stupid for their adult companions. Its heart is in the right place, as an annoying bird guides the audience through the Cretaceous Era by properly naming all of the species, yet the idea that the production had to “entertain” its young audience with a silly Dino-Shakespearian fight for power – softened for the youthful sensibility – just wasn’t compelling. The kid fidget factor, unless the moppet is a junior scientist, might top out at eleven.

Roughly a year ago we were treated to an enticing teaser trailer for Barry Cook and Neil Nightingale’s Walking with Dinosaurs 3D; a spin-off from the popular BBC television series. The trailer gave off the impression we’d be in for a mature, grown-up nature documentary of sorts, with a David Attenborough style of narration playing over the top. However regrettably Walking with Dinosaurs offers no such thing, instead adding needless human voices to the dinosaurs and having them interact through speech, as this potentially exhilarating tale has become far too child-friendly, suffering greatly a result.
Narrated by Alex (John Leguizamo), an Alexornis bird, we delve into the life of Patchi (Justin Long), a young Pachyrinosaurus, who gets separated from his family and has to venture through the wild and dangerous dinosaur kingdom, hoping to one day emulate his father, the Alpha male of their herd, who dies courageously in battle.

Anyone who remembers Walt Disney Feature Animation’s 2000 film “Dinosaur” also likely remembers how directors Ralph Zondag and Eric Leighton squandered a promising idea by pairing breathtakingly lifelike imagery with embarrassingly phony dialogue. Despite trumping that film in 1999, and on the small screen even, with the documentary miniseries “Walking With Dinosaurs,” BBC Earth decided to follow in Disney’s footsteps – including the missteps – with “Walking With Dinosaurs 3D,” an insufferable family adventure whose impressive animation is consistently undercut by cartoonish self-awareness. Bookended by the contemporary story of a teenager named Ricky (Charlie Rowe), who thinks science is for losers,...

John Leguizamo isn't Exactly a dinosaur in Walking with Dinosaurs, he plays a bird. In fact, Alex is an Alexornis Antecedens, which Leguizarmo says is, "the first prehistoric parrot." Of course, Leguizamo also voiced Sid the Sloth in the Ice Age movies. Leguizamo gave Sid a lisp after learning that sloths carried things in their mouths. So, what did he do to give Alex his own unique sound? He says, "Well, Alex is from Mexico. The Alexsoarus, so we gave him a Spanish accent." (Watch the video below to hear John demonstrate exactly how he gave Alex a Spanish flair!)
There may be a reason Leguizamo has a knack for getting cast in dinosaur movies. He says as a kid, "I was a dinosaur freak!"
Okay, then, we asked him what advice would he give to the dinos to survive a little longer? "I would tell them not to be so aggressive with each other,...

Troodons are featured in Walking with Dinosaurs 3D, which Wwd animator David Krentz describes as "a crazy raptor-like dinosaur." Troodons really demonstate the link between dinos and birds with arms that look exactly like chicken wings. In fact, paleontologists feel confident that Troodons had large feathers, although they don't believe Troodons could fly.
As the character designer for Walking with Dinosaurs, David Krentz has the awesome job of getting to draw dinos all day. In the video above, he shows KidsPickFlicks Exclusively how to draw Troodon. Check it out!
Walking with Dinosaurs 3D will be tromping into theaters on Dec. 20.

Tinseltown’s love of all things prehistoric continues to romp forward. Twenty years since Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park advanced cinema technology and brought the terrifying creatures to the big screen, we still can’t get enough as this latest domestic trailer for Walking With Dinosaurs 3D is here to keep audiences poised for further dinosauric action.
Following on from last month’s international trailer, Fox have crafted a new preview for U.S. audiences. Adding on a voiceover appears to be an attempt to make the film more palatable. It spoon feeds the film to viewers. Fair play to Fox. They’re keen to capture a youthful audience who force their parents to watch all four Ice Age movies incessantly on repeat.
Walking With Dinosaurs 3D comes from director Barry Cook. He helmed Arthur Christmas and Mulan. This time he joins up with Neil Nightingale to share directing duties.

The improvements in visual effects mean prehistoric creatures aren't in any danger of becoming extinct on our screens.
In fact, there's a stampede of primordial beasts coming and they will, we hope, be more and more convincing.
A fourth series of Primeval launches on ITV early next year, a Walking with Dinosaurs movie is in the pipeline (see below) and there are plans afoot for another Jurassic Park adventure.

Sky 3D and Atlantic Productions have announced that the one-hour film will air on Sky 3D - Europe's first 3D TV channel - and is Sky's first original factual 3D commission.
