It's been nearly seven years since Jack Sparrow graced the silver screen in "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales." In the years since then, Disney has toyed with various versions of a sixth movie in the multi-billion-dollar franchise. Now, we have word from legendary producer Jarry Bruckheimer that the new movie, whatever it may be, will indeed be a reboot. So don't expect to see Johnny Depp or Orlando Bloom back in the saddle.
Speaking with Comicbook.com in honor of his upcoming film "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare," Bruckheimer was asked whether he believes we'll see "Top Gun 3" or "Pirates of the Caribbean 6" happen first. He didn't go into detail, but he did suggest that "Pirates" is looking to make a fresh start with the upcoming entry. Here's what he had to say about it:
"It's hard to tell. You don't know, you really don't know.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has recently shared future plans for the popular franchise Pirates of the Caribbean. However, he was dropped from the franchise in 2018. While there have been rumors about his potential comeback, Bruckheimer’s recent declaration to reboot the franchise appears to dash hopes of Depp reprising his iconic role as Jack Sparrow.

Johnny Depp may end up returning to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise according to the latest rumors about the Disney-owned movie series.
After starring in five Pirates of the Caribbean movies, Johnny Depp said he'd been fired by Disney from his role in the franchise due to allegations made by ex-wife Amber Heard. Depp has since come out victorious in a defamation trial with Heard, vindicating the actor in the eyes of many. That has led to an immense fan demand for Depp to be brought back as Captain Jack Sparrow, though this conflicts with ongoing rumors that the franchise will be rebooted with a female lead. However, per film scooper Daniel Richtman, there's now consideration at Disney to bring back Depp for a planned Pirates of the Caribbean film, but this would only be for a supporting role, rather than featuring Captain Jack as the lead.

As Disney wants to restart the swashbuckling blockbuster, they intend to cast younger actors who will continue the legacy of the flagship franchise of the studio. This means that if Depp wants to join the project, he will only have a cameo appearance.

We are officially in a bold, new future, folks. No, I'm not talking about how it feels like we're just one misguided billionaire's whims away from actually entering the grid and ending up in some dystopian era where we're literally living through the plot of "Tron" and its follow-up, "Tron: Legacy." I'm referring to the fact that legacy sequels to legacy sequels are now in vogue and here to stay for good. But you can't argue with what the people want and what they want is as simple as it gets: more Daft Punk.
After years and years of viewers demanding a third movie in the "Tron" franchise, Disney is making that wish into a reality. It's been a little over a year since we first found out that the project had been officially green-lit and would proceed under the title "Tron: Ares." This post contains spoilers for Madame Web.
There are exactly two good things in Madame Web. No, it’s not the meme-worthy line about moms and Amazons, which doesn’t even appear in the movie. Neither is it all of the winks toward Peter Parker nor the young female Spider-heroes who (spoiler) have only two brief scenes in costume.
No, one good thing in Madame Web is the old-school Marvel logo that opens the film. The simple flipping of comics pages that dissolves into the big red block with the word “Marvel” in white font, before MCU movies replaced it with their busy fanfare.
The other good thing happens at the end of the movie. Or rather, it doesn’t happen. Because after Madame Web‘s closing scene, a very stupid looking close-up on Cass Web’s blank face, played by the ever-wooden Dakota Johnson, credits roll and that’s it.

Belated second sequel Tron: Ares is finally shooting, and it’s been announced that Gillian Anderson has joined the already starry cast.
Because it’s important not to rush these things, Disney has waited well over a decade to make a sequel to 2010’s Tron: Legacy. That film was itself a sequel to Tron, released in the dim-and-distant year of 1982.
Finally, though, filming appears to have gotten away over the past couple of days, with director Joachim Ronning (Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales) posting a teasing image of a Tron 3 chair on the 20th January. It’s the sort of thing filmmakers often do when a film goes into production.

Pirates of the Caribbean 6 could potentially address several franchise mysteries, including who will replace Will as the captain of the Flying Dutchman and what his fate will be when Elizabeth eventually dies.
While Johnny Depp’s Jack Sparrow might be the Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise’s breakout star, he is not the character that Pirates Of The Caribbean 6 truly needs to reignite interest in the series. When Johnny Depp Blasted The Screenplay Of Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales Because It Was Not Up To The Mark! ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow is a perfect casting, and he has been playing the character for over a decade. He lost the role after his ex-wife Amber Heard accused him of domestic violence, followed by the Hollywood A-Lister filing a defamation case against Heard. Recently, an alleged Pirates of the Caribbean 6 poster went viral featuring Depp, sparking speculations of his return to the Disney franchise.
Disney is known for keeping its image clean and tends to cut ties with actors and actresses with bad reputations. Hence, the company allegedly dropped him from the franchise when Depp landed in a defamation trial. There were reports that Margot Robbie would join the universe in a spin-off movie, but that remained inconclusive.

The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has seen a decline in performance since its early success, with the most recent installment underperforming. The future of the franchise is uncertain, as there have been no significant updates on the release of Pirates of the Caribbean 6. Despite the challenges, there is potential for the franchise to be revived with one more film that could fix the series and satisfy fans.
It's been six years since the last installment in the Pirates of the Caribbean movie series was released, and Disney seems no closer to pulling its most successful franchise back together. Captain Jack Sparrow's catchphrase "Savvy?" reflects his unpredictable and unreliable nature, often asking others to trust him in his confusing plans. Jack proudly embraces his identity as a pirate, using the simple phrase "Pirate" to assert his scoundrel ways and lack of remorse. Jack's love for adventure and distaste for a boring life is evident in his remark "What A Horrible Way To Live," showing his affinity for trouble and excitement.
The best Jack Sparrow quotes not only show why he is the breakout star of the Pirates of the Caribbean but also one of the most popular cinematic heroes of all time. Though Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) were always positioned more comfortably as the heroes of the first three movies, Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) became the de facto main character of the franchise, with the fourth and fifth movies being led by him.

Jacob Elordi's résumé is impressive, given the actor's relatively short career. Born and raised in Brisbane, Australia, Elordi always knew he wanted to be an actor. According to a 2022 GQ cover story, he idolized actors like Marlon Brando and Heath Ledger, which sparked his interest in performing. At the age of 12, he started acting in school plays, and by the time he was 17, he landed his first film gig as an extra in "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" (2017), per Just Jared. The following year, he starred in "Swinging Safari" and Netflix's "The Kissing Booth," which launched him into stardom in an instant and opened many doors for him to star in other works, including the acclaimed HBO series by Sam Levinson, "Euphoria," which will return for a third season in 2025.

The Pirates of the Caribbean movies are known for their epic sword fights, which add an extra level of spectacle to the films and create memorable moments. While some fights may be less exciting due to characters being past their primes, the franchise consistently delivers exciting sword battles throughout all five films. The best fight in the series is the three-way duel in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, which showcases the franchise's best stunt work and delivers high stakes, tension, and an incredible set.

They may be rascals, and scoundrels, and villains, and knaves, but it’s impossible to say that pirates aren’t fun to watch — at least on screen. And of course, there is perhaps no pirate more famous in pop culture at this point than Jack Sparrow, the bumbling, drunken heart of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise.
Known for never having a plan but somehow always ending up with one that works out, the unreasonably charming pirate was brought to life by Johnny Depp for five movies across nearly 15 years. In his journeys, he encountered the Kraken, Davy Jones, the Fountain of Youth, and even Poseidon’s trident.
But, if you’re here, you probably know all this. What you want to know is how to watch Sparrow and his pirate friends — including Orlando Bloom’s Will Turner and Keira Knightley’s Elizabeth Swan — in all their swashbuckling glory.

If Johnny Depp chooses not to return, Pirates of the Caribbean 6 could explore other potential storylines, such as focusing on Henry Turner or Captain Barbossa. Prequels could be a great way to branch away from Jack Sparrow's storyline, with possibilities including exploring Will Turner's time on the Flying Dutchman or Calypso and Davy Jones' past. The franchise could also consider spin-offs, such as a movie about the Royal Navy hunting pirates or continuing the story with Angelica, played by Penelope Cruz.
The return of Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean 6 is still up in the air, but if the actor chooses not to reprise the role of Jack Sparrow, the film could still focus on these 10 story ideas. Throughout the franchise's five films, the world of Pirates of the Caribbean has gotten much bigger than Jack Sparrow, with all kinds of lore and side characters filling up the universe.

Kaya Scodelario's contract for Pirates of the Caribbean 6 suggests a potential connection to earlier sequels, hinting at the future of the franchise. Scodelario's idea of an all-female pirate crew could bring a fresh perspective to the series and make her a perfect leader for the franchise. While Carina's return may not be enough to save the series on its own, it could provide a bridge between the original movies and the new film, lending a sense of legitimacy to the project.
Kaya Scodelario appears in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales as Carina, a character who may return in the sixth Pirates movie, and her potential presence could connect the reboot to the franchise’s earlier sequels. The future of Pirates of the Caribbean 6 is uncertain because though writer Craig Mazin tweeted that a script has been written, the ongoing WGA strike has halted production.

King Triton's role in the 2023 version of The Little Mermaid is different from the original, with more background and motivation provided for his ban on merpeople meeting humans. Javier Bardem perfectly embodies King Triton's complexities, making him one of the few improvements in the live-action remake. The remake also establishes a more direct connection between King Triton and the villain Ursula, adding personal stakes to their conflict.
King Triton is a central part of The Little Mermaid’s story, leading Disney's live-action version to cast an established and well-known actor in the role. While Ariel’s interest in humans and the world beyond the oceans always existed, leading her to build an impressive collection of trinkets over the years in both the original The Little Mermaid and the longer live-action remake, it becomes a point of contention once King Triton discovers it, as he always forbade humans and merpeople from fraternizing with each other.

Pirates of the Caribbean 6 may struggle to succeed if led by Johnny Depp's Captain Jack Sparrow due to the declining quality of recent films and the need for a fresh character. The franchise needs characters audiences can care about developing. There are many fascinating side characters in the Pirate world that could be explored, allowing the franchise to stick with something familiar while putting a fresh spin on the plot.

With a new installment in Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean series potentially on the horizon, the question of whether Johnny Depp will return still lingers.
The development of Pirates of the Caribbean 6 has been in a state of limbo for years. The most recent film, 2017's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, was a significant flop on top of being panned by critics and fans.
Additionally, the franchise’s headliner, Johnny Depp, became something of a Hollywood pariah in recent years, in part due to his very public defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard.

Watching Hollywood scramble to find new leading men throughout the 2010s movie scene was…interesting. With traditional launchpads for new leading men (namely comedies and romantic comedies) going out of fashion theatrically, studios pinned their hopes on fresh faces being able to revitalize old franchises. In the process, audiences got tastes of Jai Courtney (Terminator: Genisys), Brenton Thwaites (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales), Liam Hemsworth (Independence Day: Resurgence), and Theo James (Divergent) as leading men. After those tastes, moviegoers firmly said “No thank you.” All these dudes looked the same, had the same flat personality, and were no fun to be around.
