Producers had hoped to sign Tom Wilson to reprise his role as Biff, but Tom's management had been instructed to ignore any questions or offers relating to the "Back to the Future" franchise. Wilson claimed he had not been asked to participate in this game. He was later approached about the possibility of re-dubbing Biff Tannen's lines, in a re-release of Back to the Future: The Game - 30th Anniversary Edition (2015), and he agreed.
Christopher Lloyd was the only actor from the original trilogy to reprise his role for all five episodes of the game.
In pre-production, concept art was created for two teenage characters from 1986, who ended up not appearing in the game; Tiff Tannen and Ricky Strickland. Only Tiff is mentioned in the finished product, but she is never shown.
The Brown residence phone number, 555-1038, is a reference to the birthdate of Christopher Lloyd, who was born in October 1938.
