Prime Video has a fair amount in store for subscribers in November, as the uber-violent hit animated show Invincible returns for its highly anticipated second season. Based on the iconic comic book by Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker, and Ryan Ottley, season two will find super-powered protagonist Mark attempting to rebuild his life after finding out the truth about his father Nolan.

Honesty has gotten Dan Harmon in trouble in the past -- whether you're a fan of his or not, you're likely well-aware of Harmon's much-publicized trials with "Community," his meta-sitcom, beloved by critics and a small-but-diehard fan base. The show was taken away from him in May 2012, but honesty also seemingly ended up being his salvation, and not just because NBC hired him back to run the show's fifth season in June 2013.
Somewhere along the way, the "Community" mantra-turned-meme of six seasons and a movie became 20 shows and a documentary. And much like another fan favourite ousted by NBC, Harmon decided to hit the road during the ensuing layoff, taking his nerd-friendly podcast Harmontown on a 20-city, 23-day cross-country tour with a documentary crew, his co-host Jeff Davis, fiancée Erin McGathy and personal D&D dungeon master Spencer Crittenden in tow. Bringing his brand of unfettered candour to the people...

In The Hollywood Reporter's cover story on Conan O'Brien, the TBS host admitted that he would rather move forward in life rather than look back at the 2010 "Tonight Show" controversy. And part of that is coming to terms with the fact that any energy spent thinking about Jay Leno is a waste.
"The odds are we will both leave this Earth without speaking to each other, which is fine," O'Brien tells THR. "There's really nothing to say. We both know the deal. He knows; I know. I'd rather just forget."
Of course, he does take some small amount of glee in the fact that nearly every NBC executive involved with the blunder have since exited the company. "It helps that almost everybody involved in the craziness has been relieved of their jobs," he said.

Part musical festival, part film festival, part tech-head confab, SXSW is a unique event in the pop-culture firmament, bringing massive stars and indie up-and-comers in music, movies, and tech together in the Texas hill country of Austin. Running from March 9-17, the film festival has especially expanded its profile in the last few years: The 2011 SXSW fest featured premieres of Jodie Foster’s The Beaver, the doc Conan O'Brien Can't Stop, the Jake Gyllenhaal thriller Source Code, the sci-fi comedy Paul, and the eventually Oscar-winning feature documentary Undefeated.

Why not fold documentaries into my list of the "Best Films of 2011?" After all, a movie is a movie, right? Yes, and some years I've thrown them all into the same mixture. But all of these year-end Best lists serve one useful purpose: They tell you about good movies you may not have seen or heard about. The more films on my list that aren't on yours, the better job I've done.
That's particularly true were you to depend on the "short list" released by the Academy's Documentary Branch of 15 films they deem eligible for nomination. The branch has been through turmoil in the past and its procedures were "reformed" at one point. But this year it has made a particularly scandalous sin of
omission. It doesn't include "The Interrupters" (currently scoring 99% on the Tomatometer), which has received better reviews and been on more critic's Best lists than any other.

Alright, folks... the votes have been cast and the results have been tallied. It's time to find out what you guys thought were the best movies of 2011! We nominated five movies in a number of different categories (while attempting to keep each category relatively balanced) and then we turned it over to you. We ended up with a few tight battles (ie. Best Action Movie, Best Foreign Film) and a few other categories that weren't even close (Best Animated Film, Best Thriller). Either way, it's always fun to find out just how in sync we are with the tastes of our readers. So without any further ado, check out the full results of the 2011 Film Junk Readers Choice Awards after the jump. Best Comedy 1. Bridesmaids -- 34% 2. 50/50 -- 19% 3. Crazy Stupid Love -- 17% 4. The Trip -- 16% 5. The Muppets -- 13% Best Horror Movie 1. Tucker and Dale vs. Evil -- 28% 2. Insidious -- 23% 3. Paranormal Activity 3...

In a surprising reversal, Netflix says it is forgoing the split it announced less than a month ago, in which its DVD-by-mail business would have been spun off to a new venture and website called Qwikster. In a blog post this morning, Netflix and Qwikster CEO Reed Hastings says that DVDs will now be staying at Netflix:
"It is clear that for many of our members two websites would make things more difficult, so we are going to keep Netflix as one place to go for streaming and DVDs. This means no change: one website, one account, one password.. in other words, no Qwikster. While the July price change was necessary, we are now done with price changes."
Obviously the question on everyone's mind now is: why? Why go through the trouble of launching this terrible sounding new website and pissing off your customers only to change your mind...

The biggest and most controversial release of the week doesn't hit stores until Friday when George Lucas unleashes his latest "draft" of the Star Wars films on Blu-ray, but in stores right now we have Marvel's Thor along with a handful of intriguing indie releases and a some solid Blu-ray re-releases as well. The hilarious documentary Conan O'Brien Can't Stop finally makes its way to a wide audience this week, along with Meek's Cutoff starring Michelle Williams and Hesher starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Natalie Portman. Also potentially worth checking out is Julie Taymor's The Tempest, Yuen Woo-ping's martial arts drama True Legend, and the single-shot horror flick The Silent House. TV releases include new seasons of Glee, The Big Bang Theory and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and on Blu-ray we have The Frighteners, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, the 70th Anniversay edition of Citizen Kane and the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer!

Star Wars on Blu-ray Original Trilogy / Prequel Trilogy / Complete Saga The Star Wars saga is coming home to Blu-ray, but it isn't the same version any of us have seen as George Lucas has again been tinkering away with his money-making franchise with several changes, many of which I have already detailed. Few screeners of the set were sent out to press as is always the practice with the Star Wars home video releases so I didn't get a copy and there is no chance I will ever purchase any of these three sets. The only time this franchise will ever get my money ever again is if the original, as they were first released, versions make their way to DVD or Blu-ray. I wouldn't mind a little restoration and/or cleaning up around the edges, but I don't want any new effects,...

The joke's on us in Conan O'Brien Can't Stop.
Conan O’Brien Can’t Stop is a documentary about the comedian/talk show host’s 32-city music and comedy tour from 2010, which followed his much-publicized departure from hosting duties on NBC’s Tonight Show.
The tour was entitled “The Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour” as a response from O’Brien to a contractual stipulation that banned his appearance on television, radio and the Internet for six months following his final Tonight Show appearance.
Directed by veteran TV director Rodman Flender (TV’s 10 Things I Hate About You, not to mention the 1994 feature film Leprauchan 2), the film was released on a limited basis to theaters in late June, where it grossed nearly $300,000.

Conan O'Brien Can't Stop
Directed by Rodman Flender
Starring: Conan O'Brien, Andy Richter
Release Date: June 24, 2011 (limited)
Unless you've been living under a rock for the last year and half, you've at least heard of The Tonight Show debacle that happened last year. Conan O'Brien's short-lived reign as the show's host only lasted 7 months, but the fallout from his departure lasted significantly longer. Though it was certain O'Brien would land another show with ease, as part of his exit deal with NBC, O'Brien was prohibited from appearing on TV and radio for six months. To fill the gap, O'Brien went on his "Legally Prohibited from being Funny on Television Tour." But even during this time, O'Brien often found himself in front of a camera, as Rodman Flender filmed a documentary about the trip. Nearly a year later, the film is now showing in a very limited amount of theaters.

A late-night talk-show host occupies many roles at once. He is stand-up comic, he is party host, he is sketch-comedy utility man, he is interviewer, he is national spokesman/judge, he is tie-and-jacketed Diy surrealist. But it wasn’t until Conan O'Brien fought his doomed war against the suits at NBC that a late-night talk-show host came to occupy the following role: the Rebel You Have to Like. For a while (and this was the culmination of Conan’s cult of cooler-than-thou TV-zombie-head cachet), it simply wouldn’t do to think, or say, that Conan O’Brien was anything but the bee’s knees.

You can't keep a good man down. Or apparently, a good talk show host. The biggest takeaway from 'Conan O'Brien Can't Stop,' a behind-the-scenes documentary about the red-bearded late night host's forced exodus from TV, is that Conan O'Brien has a near pathological drive to perform. He's a man who can't seem to allow himself to take a break, even after he was paid $45 million by his former employer to shut it down for six months.
Whether he's in front of his personal assistant, the writers' table, or a packed concert hall, Conan is constantly seeking an audience. That compulsion is part of what makes him a successful comedian, and it's also what pushed the suddenly unemployed O'Brien on the road last year for a 32-city tour following his exceedingly public dust-up with NBC and Jay Leno. Today marks the last day of the first half of the year, and as per custom, it's time to look back and reflect on the best and worst of 2011 so far. We could easily fill a Top 25 Worst films, and in the first six months, it's much more difficult to judge degrees of suck than it is to value the merits of the handful of great films, so the measure of hostility will additionally be taken into account in ranking the Ten Worst.
The top ten films are also limited to theatrical releases, as well, which unfortunately excludes a film that's now available on iTunes that would have competed for the top spot on this list: Turkey Bowl. Track it down; it's only 62 minutes, and it may be the funniest 62 minutes of the year (check out Seth's review here, and Dan's review over at the Houston Press).

Now that Rodman Flender has broken onto the scene after directing the documentary Conan O'Brien Can't Stop, he has found a new project. Deadline reports that he is set to team with Amy Lippman to adapt How I Became A Famous Novelist. I have been interested in seeing the indie documentary about the talk-show host's musical road trip after exiting NBC's Tonight Show.
The project is based on Steve Hely's comic novel about "a down-on-his-luck guy who resolves to write a bestselling novel solely to upstage his ex-girlfriend at her wedding. Even though he has loaded in every cliche and a well-worn plot line, the novelist watches his book become a raging bestseller. It's such a phenomenon that it inflames the literary community, alienates his ex and causes him to rethink what makes good writing worthwhile."
This sounds like a pretty interesting story and one that should be pretty funny.

The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy (Extended Editions) I watched all three of these on Blu-ray over the course of last week and can tell you right now they are excellent transfers from the video on down to the audio. These transfers are light years ahead of the rather low rent, yet passable, theatrical Blu-ray versions that were released last April, but there are always factors to consider here.
First off, do you already own these extended editions on DVD? If so, perhaps you don't need to buy these just yet. The one thing I would mention that should probably be taken into consideration is to ask just how likely you believe you are to buy some sort of mega-Blu-ray set that includes not only the Lord of the Rings trilogy, but also the two...

"Conan O'Brien Can't Stop" couldn't quite connect with audiences this weekend. The very very well reviewed doc hit 24 screens in its debut frame, and the results were somewhat underwhelming. The film is being released via a unique multi-platform distribution deal between At&T, Abramorama and Magnolia Home Entertainment. In the deal, At&T has come onboard as a P&A and multi-platform distribution and marketing partner, while Abramorama is handling theatrical distribution, ...

"Cars 2, directed (like several great Pixar films of the last two decades) by John Lasseter, finds itself in the unlucky position of the not-so-bright kid in a brilliant family," finds Slate's Dana Stevens. "No matter if his performance in school is comfortably average; he'll always be seen as a disappointment compared to his stellar siblings. There's nothing really objectionable about Cars 2, although parents of young children should be warned that a few evil vehicles meet violently inauspicious ends. It's sweet-spirited, visually delightful (if aurally cacophonous), and it will make for a pleasant enough family afternoon at the movies. But we've come to expect so much more than mere pleasantness from Pixar that Cars 2 feels almost like a betrayal."

Conan O'Brien didn't have any problem with notoriety before he took over The Tonight Show in 2009. But his closely watched feud with NBC and their messy divorce the following year catapulted him to a cult-like level of stardom as fans took to the twitterverse to demand he not be shat on. Between leaving NBC and signing a deal with TBS, Conan took to the road with his Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour; a 32-city music and comedy show of Vaudevillian proportions. Director Rodman Flender took his camera along to chronicle a pre-Team Coco Conan, genuinely afraid that he was one wrong step away from the end of his career. At its heart, Conan O'Brien Can't Stop is a concert doc....

Rodman Flender's documentary, Conan O'Brien Can't Stop offers an unexpectedly intimate look into the behind-the-scenes goings-on of last year's "Legally Prohibited from Being on Television Tour." What's most unexpected about the documentary is not the nature of O'Brien's psychological break-down in the aftermath of "The Tonight Show" debacle, although there's a lot of unspoken insight into that in Flender's documentary -- O'Brien's gaunt, washed-out appearance in the days after that episode, and his periodic bouts of catatonia, moments in which you can almost feel the anger and disappointment churning away in his stomach. What's most surprising about a documentary commissioned by the subject himself, however, is exactly how often Conan O'Brien Can't Stop depicts the talk-show host as a dick. He's passive-aggressive with his writers, frequently a jerk to his assistant, an asshole to his handlers, and often visibly frustrated with his fans. What's even more surprising is how...

Conan O'Brien Is Kind Of A Dick, And Other Revelations Five things we learned about the beloved comic from his new documentary, Conan O'Brien Can't Stop. By Andrew Osborne 1. Conan O'Brien can't stop... whining. Conan O'Brien Can't Stop is a documentary (in limited release today) about The Legally Prohibited From Being Funny On Television Tour, the musical road show that kept the late-night host occupied in the months between leaving The Tonight Show and finding a new home on basic cable. And the wounds suffered by O'Brien and his staff in their skirmish with NBC are still very fresh as the film begins. Yet you might have trouble sympathizing with O'Brien's onscreen bouts of self-pity, especially given the eight-figure severance package he received as compensation for the damage inflicted on his career (and ego). Not only that, but looking [...]...

Now that Conan O'Brien's got himself a show again and Jay Leno's back doing God knows what on 'The Tonight Show,' one almost forgets what life was like just over a year ago when The Ginja Ninja started a Twitter account, grew a beautiful red beard and went on a comedy tour just to keep himself from going crazy as a newly unemployed talk show host. Lucky for us, a camera crew was there to capture that tour and now we have 'Conan O'Brien Can't Stop,' a behind-the-scenes documentary that chronicles all the ups and downs of Coco's life on the road in the wake of the biggest letdown of his career.
It ain't all pretty, but it's a whole lot of fun, so be cool, my babies, and hit the jump for the full review.

Trailers are an under-appreciated art form insofar that many times they’re seen as vehicles for showing footage, explaining films away, or showing their hand about what moviegoers can expect. Foreign, domestic, independent, big budget: I celebrate all levels of trailers and hopefully this column will satisfactorily give you a baseline of what beta wave I’m operating on, because what better way to hone your skills as a thoughtful moviegoer than by deconstructing these little pieces of advertising? Some of the best authors will tell you that writing a short story is a lot harder than writing a long one, that you have to weigh every sentence. What better medium to see how this theory plays itself out beyond that than with movie trailers? Film Socialisme Trailer We all can point to examples of those in this industry who have lost their edge, their hunger, their passion to make a good film.

On stage during the Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on TV Tour, Conan O'Brien was Mr. Positive, thanking fans for their support and cheerily digging at his former NBC bosses.
Away from the crowds, though, he wasn't always quite so sunny. You can see both sides of Conan in the documentary "Conan O'Brien Can't Stop," the trailer for which is above. The documentary premiered at the South by Southwest festival earlier this year and earned a wave of positive reviews; it hits theaters on June 24.
In the documentary you'll see a lot of Conan doing what he does best -- making fun of himself -- but also moments where he admits to feeling bitter ("Sometimes I'm so mad I can't even breathe") and doubts himself. Team Coco is officially on board with the film, so it's probably not a gotcha piece, but still, it's a pretty interesting glimpse at Conan...

It's been a whirlwind year for Coco. Around this time last year, Conan O'Brien was signing off on his brief and ultimately hilariously bitter stint as host of The Tonight Show. Everyone wondered what was next for Conan. With an injunction prohibiting him from returning to television for nine months, the comedian took to the road, touring the nation in a much buzzed about slate of stand-up performances. Lucky for us, cameras were there to capture every moment of the Legally Prohibited From Being Funny On TV Tour. What resulted was an 89-minute documentary which premiered earlier this year at the SXSW Film Festival and received glowing reviews. On top of losing his hosting job at The Tonight Show, part of Conan O'Brien's buyout from NBC was that he couldn't start work on a television for nine months. Instead of taking a long vacation, O'Brien began work on a 32-city tour titled "Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television." Director Rodman Flender decided to shoot the tour and the result is the documentary Conan O'Brien Can't Stop, which starts just days after O'Brien's exit from NBC and documents the creation of the show.
Conan O'Brien Can't Stop first premiered at the South by Southwest Film Festival and, at the premiere, Flender said that O'Brien kept "putting off seeing it for the longest time," The La Times reports. O'Brien revealed to the crowd that it was hard for him to watch himself in the movie, but that it represented who he was at the time.

A new trailer is up for Conan O'Brien Can't Stop, the documentary that chronicled Conan's exile from NBC's Tonight Show. He hit the road with a 32-city music and comedy show to work out the angst of losing his dream job in unceremonious fashion. While most people who pocket upwards of $30 million to leave a job they held less than eight months would consider it a dream, for O'Brien is was a nightmare. The Rodman Flender-directed film, well received during its SXSW debut, will be released by Abramorama on June 24. After all the drama that went into Conan's exit, is Conan better off after refusing NBC's request that he move his show back to midnight to make room for Jay Leno, and choosing TBS over Fox? Nobody much talks about him since he stepped into the cable universe at TBS.

After rave reviews and much buzz in the festival circuit, the film about the late night host's darkest moment and rise from obscurity debuts a new trailer before wide release on June 24. After a much-publicized departure from hosting NBC's Tonight Show - and the severing of a 22-year relationship with the network - O'Brien hit the road with a 32-city music-and-comedy show to exercise his performing chops and exorcise a few demons. The "Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour" was O'Brien's answer to a contractual stipulation that banned his appearance on television, radio and the Internet for six months following his last show. Filmmaker Rodman Flender's resulting documentary, Conan O'Brien Can't Stop, is an intimate portrait of an artist trained in improvisation, captured...

It may seem like ancient history now, but it was only a bit over a year ago that Conan O'Brien walked away from The Tonight Show, leaving his showbiz future in question. What followed was a comedy tour, gigantic twitter campaign, and a pretty damned successful lead in to Lopez Tonight. Conan O'Brien Can't Stop is the behind-the-scenes look at the comedy tour part of the equation and offers up a whole lot of Conan at his best. Pretty much everyone who caught successful TV director Rodman Flender's documentary at SXSW was a fan. People called it an interesting look at Conan's psychological condition during such harrowing times... oh, and said it's ridiculously funny. So funny you only get to hear every other joke...

For full disclosure, Conan O'Brien is my favorite late night talk show host so I may be a little biased in my opinion but this film Conan O'Brien Can't Stop looks pretty damn funny. The film has already won numerous awards playing at various film festivals and now his journey from walking away from NBC's Tonight Show to his on road comedy tour is captured in a documentary about the comedian's love for performance.

We were going to try and check out the new Conan O'Brien doc, Conan O'Brien Can't Stop, in the Cannes marketplace but timing just wasn't on our side so I guess it will have to wait a little while longer as the film is set to hit theaters on June 24 from Abramorama.
The pic details the 32-city music-and-comedy show O'Brien did following his highly-publicized departure from NBC's "The Tonight Show" and is described as an intimate portrait of an artist trained in improvisation, captured at the most improvisational time of his career. It offers a window into the private writers room and rehearsal halls as O'Brien's "Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour" is almost instantly assembled and mounted to an adoring fan base. At times angry, mostly hilarious, we see a comic who does not stop -- performing, singing, pushing his staff and himself. Did Conan O'Brien hit...

I was lucky enough to catch Conan O’Brien Can’t Stop at a sold out screening at this year’s Hot Docs film festival and it remains to be one of the funniest films I’ve seen this year. I suppose this might be dependent upon your own opinion of Conan and his sometimes self-deprecating, other times egomaniacal sense of humour. Director Rodman Flender (he directed Leprachaun 2!) apparently first met Conan in college and maintained a lasting friendship. After the whole Jay Leno debacle, he approached him with the idea of documenting his "Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour", which took place during his contractually imposed down time between The Tonight Show and his current TBS program. Conan agreed and the result is a hilarious, warts-and-all insider’s perspective on O’Brien’s constant appetite to entertain, the relationships he holds with his co-workers, and the sometimes exhausting demands of his fans.

That's right, my babies, the first trailer for 'Conan O'Brien Can't Stop' has finally arrived. Now that Coco's been back on the air and sittin' pretty on TBS for the past six months, one almost forgets what life was like for the guy after he parted ways with NBC and had nothing but time to kill as a jobless comedian with a jobless staff of writers. Directed by Rodman Flender, the doc gives us a behind-the-scenes ticket to all of the Cone-Zone's highs and lows during his nationwide, two-month-long 'Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour.'
