- The film revolves around five central characters in the city of Mumbai. Tilak (Tusshar Kapoor) is a small-time publisher of pirated books who along with his friends Mandook (Pitobash Tripathy) and Ramesh (Nikhil Dwivedi) kidnaps a famous author and forces him to give the manuscript of his latest book to them so that they will be the first ones to publish it. Tilak is also newly married & it is insinuated that the whole marriage took place very suddenly. Tilak also runs a book piracy business but ensures that he delivers a quality pirated copy to his customers, even if it costs him more money to do so.
Mandook & Ramesh steal a bag from the Mumbai local which turns out to be full of guns & bombs. They contact a local politician Tipu Bhaiya to sell it, who connects them to a buyer. Abhay (Sendhil Ramamurthy) is a NRI who returns to India to start his own small business and meets Shalmili (Preeti Desai) at a night club. The local mafia approaches Abhay to offer protection in exchange for money, which he disrespectfully refuses. Gradually the mafia's goon start stalking Abhay & Shamili everywhere & even start harassing them. Abhay approaches the police who also offer protecting in exchange for money. The mafia goons enter Abhay's office & kill his guard. The goon gives him an ultimatum for Rs 10 L in 2 days. Accepting defeat, Abhay pays the money.
Sawan (Sundeep Kishan) is a young cricketer hoping to break into the under-22 Mumbai cricket team. Sawan is having a love affair with a girl, whose parents are trying to get a good match for her via arranged marriage. Sawan meets with a selector to secure a spot, who asks him for a Rs 10 L bribe within a week. Sawan doesn't have that kind of cash. Sawan approaches a local politician Tipu Bhaiya, who refuses to help. The bank refuses to loan him money. Desperate, Sawan decides to rob a local bank to come up with the cash. Sawan approaches Tipu with the plan, so agrees to help.
The story focuses on their trials and tribulations as they battle life in the city of Mumbai during the chaotic period of the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi. The film tries to deal with concepts of chance, the constant struggle between hope and despair and self-actualization. The opening of the movie starts with the song "Karma is a b***h" which fits in with the central theme of the story where the characters of the film keep trying to come to terms with their own actions. Abhay has a dark past which is not revealed in the film, but it can be speculated that he came to India to stay away from it.
Tilak & friends try to test the bomb in the outskirts of the city. They set the timer & hide while waiting for it to explode. A kid picks up the bomb & starts running when it explodes, severely injuring the boy & leading Tilak to believe that it caused the amputation of his leg. Tilak holds himself responsible for the tragic accident which brings him closer to his wife and viewing life from a different perspective.
The local mafia turn up to buy the guns from Mandook & Ramesh via Tipu. They don't strike a deal, but Mandook steals bullets from the mafia goons. Abhay starts tracking the mafia goons & even gets a street vendor to procure a gun for himself. The vendor puts him in touch with Tipu, so Abhay ends up buying the guns & bullets from Mandook & Ramesh. Tipu ropes in Tilak, Mandook & Ramesh in Sawan's plan to rob the bank. But Tipu has stolen Sawan's idea & he is not included in the robbery itself. Tilak initially refuses, but caves into emotional blackmail from Mandook & Ramesh.
The local mafia goons who traumatize Abhay eventually end up being shot by their own bullets on the day of Ganesha Visarjan. Abhay tracks the goons to their house & shoots them with the gun he bought.
As the Tipu guided bank robbery is in place, Sawan realizes that Tipu has stolen his idea & heads to the bank. Inside the bank, the robbery goes wrong when the manager calls the police & Mandook accidentally fires the gun which hits Tilak in the stomach & he drops down. Mandook & Ramesh abandon the money & run away, thinking Tilak is dead. Sawan enters the bank & collects the money & simply walks away. Tilak regains consciousness in a few minutes & escapes as well.
Sawan decides not to pay the bribe to the selector in the end & decides to get a job. Towards the end of the movie all characters move on different paths.
