The big-screen "Deadpool" universe is populated with loads of eccentrics and goofballs. Leslie Uggams' Blind Al, Brianna Hildebrand's Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Rob Delaney's extraordinarily ordinary hero Peter, and more give star Ryan Reynolds all kinds of weird energy to bounce off of. I'm sure we'll be getting another generous serving of brand-new wackos in "Deadpool 3," but fans are no doubt hoping for the return of previously established doofuses.
One side character who's become a crowd favorite is Dopinder, the Indian cab driver who whisks Deadpool to and fro for very little compensation. As Reynolds told an audience at the "Talks at Google" series, "Deadpool only pays him in a crisp high five. And at one point, he gives him a crisp 10 and some life advice." Played with winning enthusiasm by Karan Soni, the character is set to return for "Deadpool 3," where he will presumably continue to...

Over and over again, Monday’s episode of The Voice teed up the saddest kind of mic-drop moment — the kind in which a singer’s asked to drop the mic on their way not just off the stage but the show. Along the way, Ariana Grande got goosebumps galore, John Legend retained a purple-haired competitor who reminded him of Pink, Kelly Clarkson stole a 13-year-old dark horse from Ari, and Blake Shelton was left so awestruck by a performance, he remarked, “I don’t know that I’ve ever seen anything like that.” Spoiler alert: It’s the first one up.

“You’re No Good” (Bob Dylan, 1962)
From his oft-overlooked folkie debut, a prophetic blast of rockabilly. Even in this early stage, hustling to make his name in the folk scene, Dylan’s got rock & roll in his bones.

After botched laser eye surgery treatment, actress Faye completely loses her vsion and is trying to get used to life in the dark. We find Faye attending support groups and making visually impaired freinds who are helping her deal with things. She’s also falling for the leader of the support group, Luke, who is a mute and can only communicate through his mobile. We are going to spend the day/night with Faye as she learns she may not be as alone in the house as she thinks.
I am skipping straight to end with this review because, honestly, Blind is pretty average, not amazing but good enough to rave about either. However… Sarah French is absolutely brilliant in the lead role and holds this film up on her shoulders aloine.

A sequel to the 2016 box office smash home invasion horror film, Don’t Breathe, is coming, with Stephen Lang back as the Blind Man.
Don’t Breathe arrived in 2016, achieving acclaim, both critically and at the box office, with director Fede Alvarez having conjured something that’s increasingly rare: an original horror concept, in this case of a blind man (Stephen Lang) who goes (way) too far dishing out just deserts to would-be home invaders. Interestingly, with the film having grossed $157 million worldwide off a microscopic $9.9 million budget, sequel plans quickly started after the film's release, but they only just got off the ground in the beginning of 2020.
Rodo Sayagues will occupy the director’s chair for Don’t Breathe 2; an appointment made by Alvarez that’s close to home, since Sayagues was his co-writer for the original movie, as well as the 2013 Evil Dead remake movie. Sayagues will make...

Although some believe 2014's Birdman to be the first one-shot film (a movie that's one continuous shot with no edit cuts), flicks like Timecode, Big Monday, and last year's Blind Spot put paid to that myth. However, a specific one-shot film that's garnering a ton of interest right now is Oscar winning director Sam Mendes' WWI epic 1917. Early reactions are very…...

One of rock’s great questions, a rung or two below Are You Experienced? and maybe Which One’s Pink? but still right up there, has got to be Why A Big Suit? David Byrne asked himself that in an early-mtv-era promo for Jonathan Demme’s brilliant Talking Heads concert film Stop Making Sense, posing a query about an image – the angular frontman all Dada’d up in a gigantic gray, V-cut suit – that itself was a signature pose of the 1980s.
His answer had a bit to do with a love of geometric shapes but mostly reflected a desire to make his head seem small – a way, he suggested, of highlighting the physical, rather than the cerebral, in music. Of course the very contemplation of the matter funked things up more than a little; as, it turned out, shrunken heads are about as good at escaping attention as whispers.

Editors Note: Over the past two weeks, a controversy has been brewing over the casting of Alec Baldwin as a blind man in the Michael Mailer-directed indie Blind. Led by the Ruderman Foundation — a non-profit that advocates for the full inclusion of people with disabilities in all aspects of life — the issue was raised as to why the filmmaker would cast a seeing actor for a blind role. The pitch for “Wish Upon” has plenty of potential: A high concept horror movie that basically aims to be “Heathers” meets “Final Destination” with a dash of “The Monkey’s Paw.” Unpopular teenager Clare (Joey King) comes across an ancient Chinese box with the ability to grant eight wishes, which she leverages to make her family wealthy and improve the quality of her life bit by bit, not realizing that every wish comes with a tradeoff — someone close to her must die. And so they do, again and again, as the gears in the box turn slowly and an eerie song plays, so by the time Clare learns her lesson, it’s obviously too late. Unfortunately, by the time “Wish Upon” gets around to establishing this grim premise, it’s already too late to turn it into anything remotely exciting on its own terms.

Nobody is more virile than a blind man in a bad movie. From Army Ranger Lieutenant Colonel Frank Slade in “Scent of a Woman” to Virgil Adamson in “At First Sight,” these characters are cartoons of masculinity, using their dicks like antennae as they help guide the sighted people in their lives towards some kind of personal growth. While blind women are often rendered as pretty, pitiable things in desperate need of assistance (a trope that Charlie Chaplin inadvertently helped cement in “City Lights,” and that Lars von Trier very deliberately weaponized in “Dancer in the Dark”), their male counterparts are seen as horny, feral animals who compensate for their sightlessness with bat-like sonar and a bloodhound’s sense of smell.
And so we end up with movies like Michael Mailer’s divertingly banal “Blind,” in which Alec Baldwin plays a vision-impaired (but hyper-sexual) writer who can tell from halfway...
