In the world of modern-day filmmakers, Guy Ritchie stands out with a career that has been as eclectic as it is unpredictable. How does the man behind gritty, fast-paced films like Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels coexist with the director of Disney's live-action Aladdin? Ritchie's signature high-energy macho style might not be universally embraced. Still, his seamless transition to Hollywood blockbusters like the Sherlock Holmes franchise showcases the incredible versatility of his IMDb filmography.
While many of Ritchie's films might lack profound themes, they captivate audiences with sheer sensation and style. Despite the apparent lack of cohesion in his filmography, Ritchie's knack for keeping audiences engaged has proved invaluable when crafting intense crime dramas or special-effects-driven cinematic spectacles. According to IMDb, some of Guy Ritchie's varied and accomplished films have fared well with audiences, though some have stuck with viewers longer.

A new project by Guy Ritchie has become somewhat of an annual tradition, at least since 2019, as the British filmmaker has released a new film almost every year since. He's most known for his fast-paced style, quick cuts, and specific sense of humor, often bringing his distinct way of storytelling to tentpole films like Sherlock Holmes, Aladdin, The Man From U.N.C.L.E., and King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, to a myriad of results.

Many actors often make headlines for keeping props from the set of movies or shows (usually after filming is wrapped) to keep as memorabilia. Charlie Hunnam, star of Sons of Anarchy and Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon, is among those who confessed to following such a tradition. But he may have gone a tad bit overboard with his pursuit. Hunnam apparently “stole everything” from his uber-popular FX crime drama series, especially from the costume department!

In scientific terms, double blind refers to an experiment in which neither the subjects nor those in charge of the experiment know who is getting the drug and who is getting a placebo. The new Irish thriller Double Blind, not to be confused with another medical thriller of the same name, revolves around one such experiment, a first stage trial of a drug that might eliminate the need for sleep. And if that sounds familiar, it might be due to another recent Irish film, The Sleep Experiment, based off of the creepypasta The Russian Sleep Experiment. But while there are echoes of that here, the two tell their stories in very different ways.
Double Blind follows Claire, a broke young woman who volunteers for a clinical trial run by Blackwood Pharmaceuticals.

The original Doughtlander may not be over, but Outlander: Blood of My Blood hopes to close the gap.
For sure, it will be taking over where Outlander leaves off, even if it explores a story long before Jamie and Claire were figments of their parents' imagination.
Here’s what we know bout Blood of My Blood Season 1 so far.
What is Outlander?
It’s best to start with what we know, which is what came before. Outlander is based on a series of books by author Diana Gabaldon.
Outlander is a time-traveling love story between 20th-century (married) nurse Claire Beauchamp Randall Fraser and 18th-century Jamie Fraser.
When visiting the ancestral home of her husband, Frank, Claire stumbles through the rocks at Craigh na Dun, which takes her back in time.
Unable to easily find her way back, the sassy lady leans on handsome laird Jamie for protection, and soon, they are in love.

At best, Guy Ritchie's reputation errors on the side of eclectic. The British-born director has embraced a multitude of genres, breathing new life into crime thrillers in the early days of his career before banking a hard left to experiment with historical fiction, romance, and war. The films got bigger, and slicker, as Ritchie progressed as a filmmaker. He's worked hard to launch franchises, to build heightened worlds that run on intrigue and irreverence above all. And though not every project has worked out in Ritchie's favor, his sure-footed style has always been a heady joy to watch.
Sure, Ritchie's over-the-top style is at times easy to poke fun at. He's more or less made the same movie over and over, regardless of genre. "Sherlock Holmes" is not unlike "The Man from U.N.C.L.E," nor is "Snatch" all that far off from "RockNRolla." But there's something...

Guy Ritchie is exploring newer territory in more ways than one. The British director, who is known for his gritty gangster comedies, dabbled in adventure movies in the past with King Arthur: Legend of the Sword and Aladdin. He’s recently trying his hand at a couple of war-themed films with the Jake Gyllenhaal drama The Covenant. Plus, he’s currently involved with a historical war drama starring Henry Cavill titled The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, which also stars Gyllenhaal, as well as Eiza Gonzalez.

More than just a series set in the Monsterverse, focused on Titan creatures such as Godzilla and other MUTOs, Apple TV+’s new series “Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters” focuses on the more human/familial aspects of the universe that spans over many decades.
The main thread of the series is the story of two siblings learning about their father’s secret life and his ties to a mysterious organization called Monarch. They end up discovering much more than they anticipated in regard to their father’s research, new Titans, and their tie to the origins of Monarch.

We recently sat down for an exclusive interview with “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” producer Tory Tunnell to talk about her word on the series. Tunnell’s husband Joby Harold is also an executive producer on the series. Together both Tunnell and Harold run the production company Safehouse Pictures.

In the wake of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's overwhelming success, it seemed like every studio put in their best efforts to create a connected franchise featuring some of their most well-known properties. Most of these proposed cinematic universes failed before they began; it took two Ghostbusters reboots to get the franchise right, Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur: Legend of the Sword failed to inspire a new wave of Arthurian storytelling, and Universal’s ambitious “Dark Universe” franchise hilariously failed to take off after 2017’s The Mummy became such an infamous disaster. However, New Line Cinema ultimately found a way to attract audiences to a cinematic universe with the so-called "MonsterVerse,” a series that tied together iconic characters like King Kong and Godzilla.

Arthurian adaptations have explored the story and origins of various characters beyond King Arthur, such as Sir Gawain, Morgaine, and Merlin. These adaptations can vary in setting, from medieval times to the modern era, but their purpose is to keep the Arthurian legends alive and thriving. Some innovative adaptations depict King Arthur as a background character rather than the traditional hero, offering fresh perspectives on the familiar story.
King Arthur, the Knights of the Round Table, and Camelot are all the words associated with the greatest genre of medieval literature — Arthurian romance, and naturally, it has been explored in cinema and on television for decades. While King Arthur is generally the hero of the hour, as in Guy Ritchie's box-office disaster King Arthur: Legend of the Sword or Walt Disney's classic The Sword in the Stone, he is not the only fascinating figure in the story. The MCU is quickly approaching the debut of the X-Men. With so many potential names that could play iconic characters, there's one that's perfect for Sons of Anarchy's Charlie Hunnam. As Havok, Hunnam could bring a more 90s-era edge to the McU's X-Men and help establish more than one team.
With Marvel Studios reacquiring the rights to the X-Men in 2019 and mutants getting slowly introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) through characters such as Mrs. Marvel/Kamala Khan and Namor, it is clear that a reboot of the X-Men is on the horizon. This reboot offers an opportunity to cast actors in roles for lesser-known yet still iconic mutants. For instance, Sons of Anarchy's Charlie Hunnam could step into the role of Havok, bringing a touch of a 90s edge to the McU's X-Men and contributing to establishing more than one mutant team.

Universal’s Dark Universe is one of the most notorious failures of a franchise in the 21st century. The idea was essentially to recreate the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe by utilizing the back catalog of popular monstrous characters that Universal is so well-known for. The franchise was meant to kick off with 2017’s The Mummy, starring Tom Cruise, and an illustrious slate of other films were lined up to join the franchise shortly thereafter. This would’ve included Johnny Depp’s Invisible Man, Javier Bardem’s Frankenstein, and Russell Crowe’s Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (which was already introduced in The Mummy).
What happened instead was a disaster. Despite being one of the biggest opening weekends for a Tom Cruise feature at the time, the film failed to make a profit in spite of its $400 million in earnings. The plot took neither influence from the original nor...

Some directors, like Guy Ritchie and Tim Burton, have struggled when deviating from their signature genres, resulting in critical and commercial failures. Filmmakers such as M. Night Shyamalan and David Lynch have had major missteps with their attempts at different styles, with their films being widely panned. Even highly acclaimed directors like Spike Lee and Francis Ford Coppola have had disappointing ventures outside their usual genres, often due to the challenges of remaking successful foreign films or taking on unconventional projects.
Some directors who switched styles for a new movie managed to deliver surprisingly great films, but for others, moving away from their signature cinematic language did not quite work. Very few directors have been able to have versatile careers, with most finding success in a specific category and sticking with it. Filmmakers like Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg have managed to deliver masterpieces in multiple genres, but this is a rare accomplishment.

Charlie Hunnam has been a long-time fancast for DC's Green Arrow. The poster envisions a movie based on the critically acclaimed storyline of Mike Grell's Green Arrow: The Longbow Hunters, with Guy Ritchie as the director. Hunnam's previous roles have demonstrated his ability to embody Oliver Queen's wit, charisma, and action-packed scenes, making him a perfect fit for the iconic DC superhero.

King Arthur adaptations have been plentiful and varied, with actors like Clive Owen, Michael York, and Sean Connery leaving their mark on the character. Some adaptations have taken a more serious approach to the Arthur legend, like "Camelot," while others, like "A Knight in Camelot," went for a more comedic and lighthearted tone. The recent Netflix show "Cursed" offers a fresh perspective on the myth, with Devon Terrell bringing charisma to his portrayal of Arthur, while Iain De Caestecker's Arthur in "The Winter King" is portrayed as a commanding figure in a divided Britain.

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword was a 2017 contemporary re-imagining of the medieval legend. It was directed by Guy Ritchie, who admittedly had a lot of doubts about modernizing the movie.
“I had a two week existential crisis, where I’m convinced I’ve made the worst mistake in the world,” Ritchie said to ABC News. “And then the phoenix of confidence rises out of the ashes. And then gradually you find your momentum the film finds its own way.”
When he was searching for someone to cast as the titular hero, Hunnam was the first to volunteer.

Even as she tries to make an impact with her new employer, he decides to gift her a “Technologically Integrated Manservant” (T.I.M.) to fuss around the house and help her out while she’s busy at work. T.I.M. might be the creepiest robot version of Alexa possible!
It’s not long before T.I.M. is taking it upon himself to do more than re-up groceries and sweep the floors, becoming obsessed with Abi and having a marked distaste for her formerly wayward husband. Things soon spiral out of control in the spotless smart home while Abi is distracted by the wild demands of her boss. Can T.I.M. be stopped from doing something deadly before it’s too late?...

Summer isn’t over yet but HBO and its streaming arm Max are already moving on to fall. With its list of new releases for August 2023, Max is focusing on football! The American kind, mind you, not the actually footy kind.
August 2023 sees the release of two major football documentaries on HBO and Max. The first is the premiere of Hard Knocks on Aug. 10. The new season of long-running NFL training camp docuseries will center on the New York Jets, new employers of legendary quarterback Aaron Rodgers. On Aug. 23, Max will air the aptly named Bs High. The doc tells the stranger-than-fiction story of high school football team Bishop Sycamore, which pulled off one of the more notable sports scams you’re likely to ever hear about.
Not of the football variety but in keeping with the North American sports theme will be season 2 of Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty on Aug.

The Flash is one of the most iconic DC superheroes in existence. There have been multiple characters who have taken on the mantle of the Scarlet Speedster in the comics, and the character is synonymous in pop culture with the concept of super speed. With an easily recognizable character and with the popularity of superhero movies at its peak, it would seem like making The Flash movie would be incredibly easy, especially when Ezra Miller was first cast in 2014.
Yet despite the character being the fastest man alive, the road to the big screen has been a difficult one for The Flash. While the character appeared in Justice League, his solo film has seen multiple starts and stops over the years in the film's production cycle, with a popular TV version of The Flash airing on The CW through premiere and concluding before the film even came out. Despite a sluggish journey to the screen,...

Guy Ritchie has a way with thrills. Not specifically thriller films, but he knows how to get our adrenaline pumping. He knows how to keep us in awe with the cinematography. Some of his movies have had mixed reviews in the past, but he built a decent formula and reputation for himself as an English film director, producer, and screenwriter. His latest movie, titled Guy Ritchie's The Covenant with Jake Gyllenhaal and Dar Salim, received positive feedback, receiving a 4 out of 5-star rating on Rotten Tomatoes. What makes this film so different from his past projects? For starters, this is a war movie.
It is not uncommon for movie producers to branch out into other genres that don’t match their chosen formula. Taking risks is necessary to learn what works best for them and their craft. Ritchie has done more serious films like Wrath of Man and King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.

Los Angeles, May 4 (Ians) Poppy Delevingne will star in ‘The Gun on Second Street’, a new drama from the Emmy-nominated Indian American writer, producer and director Rohit Karn Batra, reports ‘Variety’.
The film is described as “an allegory of the gun crisis in the United States”. Its plot follows two Pittsburgh police partners and best friends who are called to an uneventful domestic violence dispute on Second Street.
This, according to ‘Variety’, quickly escalates to a violent confrontation as Officer Tj Meadows III shoots and kills his partner, Officer Kevin Cooper, with his backup gun.
Years later, no longer a cop and still traumatised, Meadows moves back to Pittsburgh and finds his way to his partner’s widow, Kacie (Delevingne). They slowly fall in love as Kacie confronts the history she’s been avoiding, including telling her 15-year-old son, Ralph, Tj’s back-story.

With the caveat that Universal’s animated blockbuster “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” is going to win a third weekend at the box office with very little effort, we’re still going to see four new wide releases this weekend, including one expanding nationwide after opening in just four theaters. Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.
Warner Bros. and New Line team with Sam Raimi for the latest incarnation of his popular ’80s horror franchise, “Evil Dead Rise.” This one is directed by Irish filmmaker Lee Cronin (“The Hole in the Ground”), who isn’t quite that well known outside of horror circles, but he clearly impressed those that saw it at its SXSW Film Festival premiere. With 44 reviews at the time of this writing, the movie has a surprisingly high 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which should help the fact that it has a relatively no-name cast.

Filmmaker Guy Ritchie's filmography is, like Sam Peckinpah before him, replete with assertive, unabashed maleness. With the possible exception of "Aladdin," Ritchie's films hover on the concerns of dudes being dudes, usually bonding over their mutual passions for criminality and violence. When he makes gangster movies, he's careful to include multiple scenes of his characters hanging out, chatting, and generally enjoying being blokes. His spies and detectives tended to be obsessed with fashionably outshining the men closest to them. Femaleness is rarely Ritichie's focus, as he lives in the realm of lager louts. Even his Arthurian movie, the legendary bomb "King Arthur: Legend of the Sword," featured a scene wherein the title monarch reveals his famous Round Table to his beer-drinking knights. "It's a table," he said. "You sit at it." Actual warmth and tender emotions aren't to be much expected from Ritchie's protagonists.

A spirited cast, including Jason Statham and Aubrey Plaza, help deliver a fun time in Guy Ritchie’s slick and silly action comedy
After briefly disappearing into the Hollywood machine, steering IP-based franchises rather than creating his own films, Guy Ritchie is having something of a Shyamalan-esque B-movie reinvention. The big-budget bloat of Aladdin, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword and The Man from Uncle (fondly remembered by some but wisely forgotten by most) has gone and, instead, there’s a renewed sense of purpose, a returned vitality that had gone missing. While the director has not exactly regressed to his roots per se, he has focused more on what he does well rather than what pays him well, from having a boss to being the boss.

When a movie gets tangled up in all kinds of financial problems, delayed for over a year, played out internationally, sent straight to streaming in Canada, and then finally getting the green light to open in the U.S. via a new distributor and thrown into theaters with virtually no notice or time to mount a marketing campaign, you have to think there must be something very wrong here.
Well surprise, surprise. The awkwardly titled Operation Fortune: Ruse De Guerre is loads of fun, an entertaining spy thriller that is faithful to the genre, very well cast, and a hoot to watch. Directed by Guy Ritchie, the action comedy film Operation Fortune: Ruse de guerre was filmed in 2021 and boasts a cast that includes Jason Statham, Hugh Grant, Aubrey Plaza, Cary Elwes, Bugzy Malone, and Josh Hartnett. And getting U.S. distribution for this film is proving to be unexpectedly difficult. Tired of waiting for the U.S. side of things to get worked out, international distributors have gone ahead and released Operation Fortune: Ruse de guerre to theatres in some countries this week, with the premiere taking place in Dubai last night.
Operation Fortune was originally supposed to receive a theatrical release from STX Entertainment in January of last year. But it was delayed while STX merged with Eros International plc., and was later bought out by Najafi Companies – after Lionsgate considered buying the company, but then dropped out of the running. Lionsgate had also considered releasing Operation Fortune in U.

If January sets the tone for any streamer’s year then 2023 is certainly going to be the Year of True Crime on Hulu. That’s right, Hulu’s list of new releases for January 2023 is highlight by several new true crime docuseries (and one charmingly goofy animated hero).
The true crime docuseries fest gets started with Death in the Dorms on Jan. 5. That will be followed by How I Caught My Killer on Jan. 12, and Web of Death on Jan. 19. The first is a six-episode series that will follow the real life case of murders at UCLA, while the latter two will both present several different stories.
It’s not just all true crime in January for Hulu. Jan. 9 sees the arrival of Koala Man, an animated series that envisions an Australian crime fighter of the same name. Also premiering is season 2 of How I Met Your Mather (Jan. 24) and superhero drama Extraordinary (Jan.

While Hulu will be bringing in plenty of great new titles this January, other popular films will be leaving the service, so mark your calendars and prepare for a movie binge if you've been meaning to watch any of these titles, because they won't be on the service for much longer. The ever-popular movie musical Mamma Mia! is one of the titles leaving if you're in need of some Meryl Streep and Abba in your life. The first seven films in the Saw franchise will also be leaving the service in January. Other titles departing include American Assassin, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, Say Anything, The Royal Tenenbaums, and Cast Away.

"My Hero Academia" is one of the most popular manga and anime around often thought of as a successor to the "Big Three" of manga. The manga is consistently on top sales lists, and the anime remains as popular as ever even after six seasons.
It is easy to see why. The story, originally created by Kōhei Horikoshi, brings the best tropes of a shonen action manga into the world of comic book superheroes, taking inspiration from classic Marvel comics, especially "Spider-Man" ones. "My Hero Academia" takes place in a world where 80 population has some kind of superpower, or "quirk." We focus on Midoriya Izuku, a kid born without powers, but who yearns more than anything to follow in the footsteps of Japan's greatest hero, All Might (essentially the show's answer to Superman and Captain America). When he is accepted into a prestigious academy for superheroes, he decides to become the number one hero,...
