Diplodocus at Large (1953)
*** (out of 4)
Early amateur film from director Donald F. Glut, who has gained a good following among fans of horror and sci- fi. This film has three kids walking when a large dinosaur shows up and begins to destroy their town only to then have a spaceship show up. At just under 2-minutes there's really no need for anyone to come into this film expecting the work of Stanley Kubrick. It's important to remember that this movie was made by kids, looks childish and all of the special effects are simply made by kids on the spot. The dinosaur is some sort of arm puppet and the people it kills are toy men. With that said, this is still an entertaining little film because of all the imagination that went into it. Sure, it's not an Oscar-winner but it's not meant to be. I found the way Glut edited the picture was quite good with all things considered and it's clear that he had a love of those monster movies as this leaps right off the screen.
