History is making another addition to its original programming with an order for a new miniseries, Sons of Liberty. Robert Redford and Laura Michalchyshyn's Sundance Productions are producing a new scripted "factual series" for Discovery Channel -- "The West," which will look at the characters at the center of the 40 year period between the end of the American Civil War through the turn of the 20th Century, including Jesse James, Crazy Horse, Wyatt Earp and Buffalo Bill. "The stories of the American West are epic and profound with some of the biggest, most renowned and mythologized characters," said Redford and Michalchyshyn. "We are thrilled to be partnering with Stephen David to bring this series to the world." That would be Stephen David of Stephen David Entertainment, who'll be coproducing the series, and who previously worked on the History docudrama "The Men Who Built America," which sounds similar in format and had actors Adam Jonas Segaller, Justin Morck and Cary Donaldson playing Andrew Carnegie, Thomas Edison and Henry Ford.

Do you like your car? The fuel you put in it? The lights in your house? You can thank behaviors that would probably be illegal today, says Stephen David, one of the Emmy-nominated writers and executive producers of the History Channel non-fiction series "The Men Who Built America." The four-part story, which looks at such 19th- and early 20th-century innovators as John D. Rockefeller, Cornelius Vanderbilt, Andrew Carnegie, Henry Ford and J.P. Morgan, looks at both the technological advances and morally questionable behavior that made America the great land it is today.

The History Channel has officially greenlit a new miniseries that I can't wait to see! The series is called Houdini, and it obviously centers on the life of the legendary magician and his rise to fame. Adrien Brody (The Pianist) is set to play the title character and Kristen Connolly will play his wife.
The mini will trace the arc of Houdini's life from desperate poverty to worldwide fame. The story "follows the man behind the magic as he finds fame, engages in espionage, battles spiritualists and encounters the greatest names of the era, from U.S. presidents to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Grigori Rasputin. The drama will chronicle the life of a man who can defy death through his stunts, his visions and his mastery of illusion."

This time, Stephen David Entertainment will spotlight Benjamin Franklin and Alexander Graham Bell, Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg, among others. “In an era where America is not always credited as leading ingenuity, this show will remind us that this country has always been a global hotbed for genius, and we will celebrate the way they changed the world we live in,” NatGeo Channel president Howard T. Know what one of the things we like most about indie films is? The filmmakers don't have to worry about their projects' rating and so can bloody things up to their hearts' content! Case in point: Kevin Kangas' (Fear of Clowns) new movie, The Garden of Hedon.
The film is already in the can, and Kangas and company are following a rather unique distribution plan... they're gonna put the whole thing up online for free! Head on over to the Kangas Khan Films Facebook page for more info!
The Garden of Hedon tells the tale of a detective trapped in a supernatural house where women are being murdered. It stars Richard Cutting (National Treasure 2), Danielle Lozeau (Legion, The Eye), John C. Bailey (The Men Who Built America), Beau Peregino (A Haunting), Paul Sieber (Ninjas Vs. Vampires), and Manuel Poblete (Game Change). The music score is by veteran composer Chad Seiter (“Fringe,...

The History Channel is blowing up with riveting original programming! The Hatfields & McCoys, Vikings, The Men Who Built America, and The Bible have all been pretty awesome. They are now developing another miniseries based on the life of legendary magician Harry Houdini, and they've cast Adrien Brody to star in it.
As of right now the working title for the series is Houdini, and it will basically follow the magician's rise to fame. I've done a lot of research on Houdini over the years, and the guy led an incredible life. I trust The History Channel will bring us something that we'll all enjoy. This series will most likely turn out better than any of the Houdini movies that are currently in development. I like that it will tell the true life story of the man, and not overexaggerate it with fictional action set pieces.

Before you write "The Host" star Jake Abel off as a pretty-boy lead in yet another supernatural romance aimed at teens, you should know: a Twihard he's not. He hasn't even read the "Twilight" series. That didn't stop him from being intrigued by the script for "The Host," based on "Twilight" author Stephenie Meyer's sophomore effort, a sort of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" meets, well, "Twilight" story. Abel's character, Ian, is one of the last humans on Earth who hasn't become host to a benevolent alien race intent on taking over the planet. Ian's group of vigilantes takes in Melanie (Saoirse Ronan), who has been taken over by an alien named Wanderer or, as she is eventually known, Wanda. Ian eventually comes to have feelings for Wanda, but there's a hitch: His Bff Jared (Max Irons) used to date Melanie, pre-alien. Uh-oh.

Much like the men it celebrates, History’s mini-series The Men Who Built America bursts at the seams with so much storytelling potential that a mere six hours just can’t contain. The rising and falling of each of America’s most notorious entrepreneurs and businessmen could last an entire season of television unto themselves if told as a straightforward narrative, but that’s not exactly what The Men Who Built America does. Instead of a basic story or simply a documentary, it blends the two together with re-enactments of their greatest exploits and talking heads of their modern day counterparts reflecting on the killer instincts that made them rich. It’s an interesting blend, especially as a teaching device, but for those just interested in the stories of these great men, the constant interruptions by the likes of Mark Cuban and Donald Trump get a bit annoying.
