Alfred Hitchcock's iconic film "Psycho" features the Bates Motel and the sinister hilltop Psycho house as its memorable settings. Fans can visit the famous Psycho house on a tour at the Universal Studios Lot in Hollywood, California, for an up-close look. Hitchcock intentionally designed the Psycho house to be authentic to its northern California setting, avoiding a typical haunted house look.
The Psycho house is an iconic horror location and fans of Alfred Hitchcock's classic movie will be glad to know there is a way to visit it. There are some who would call Psycho Alfred Hitchcock's masterpiece, and it would be difficult to argue against it. Nearly every decision Hitchcock makes in the movie is original and daring, with many sequences and ideas being so influential on modern horror and thriller films that they are simply assumed tenets of the genre now. Psycho premiered in 1960, but decades later,...

You didn’t really think Halloween Ends would be the end of the Halloween franchise, did you? That movie may have brought an end to one version of Michael Myers, but the filmmakers can always go back to an earlier iteration – or create a whole new one. Last October, we learned that Halloween will continue with a TV series that Miramax is developing with the company they share the rights to the franchise with, Malek Akkad’s Trancas International Films. Now Miramax’s Marc Helwig has given Deadline an update on the project, revealing that it’s a “creative reset” that takes the franchise back to the original film, John Carpenter’s 1978 classic.
Helwig said the Halloween TV series is “on a fast track, it’s a big priority for us. We’ve had lots of exciting conversations in recent months with a number of really talented people, and I...

It’s been 20 years since Jeff Wadlow began his career in the entertainment industry, and he’s since created a name for himself as a highly reliable Swiss army knife. He can write, direct and produce across film and television, and he also has the added reputation of being an “idea guy.” When his career was at a crossroads in the early 2010s, he wrote his way out of it and sold spec scripts for what would become Kick-Ass 2 (2013) and Bloodshot (2020). And throughout the 2010s, whenever his next movie needed a bit of time to get off the ground, he’d put on his writer hat and join Carlton Cuse’s writers’ rooms for Bates Motel and The Strain.

The Far Side often took aim at real people, including Madonna, Stephen King, Donald Trump, and Albert Einstein. The comics ranged from silly visual gags to political satire, showcasing Larson's ability to parody and mock various celebrities, historical figures, and icons. Larson even turned the humor on himself, admitting that one comic mocking a fitness buff's mistake was inspired by his own personal experience.
Gary Larson's The Far Side is known for its surreal sense of humor and often morbid subject matter. However, over its decades of success, the strip has sometimes deigned to comment on the real world, targeting celebrities, politicians, and historical figures for its unique form of mockery.
Here are the ten funniest comics where The Far Side took aim at real people, including one of the most controversial strips Larson ever published, and one with an incredibly embarrassing inspiration.

Grey’s Anatomy is traditionally one of Netflix’s most-watched acquired programs, so it’s only natural that the streaming giant enters the medical procedural space on its own.
Netflix has handed out a series order to Pulse, what it says is its first procedural medical drama series. The series, which is created by Zoe Robyn (The Equalizer), is set at Miami’s busiest Level 1 Trauma Center as they navigate medical emergencies and revolves around Dani Simms, a young ER doctor who is unexpectedly promoted to chief resident amid the fallout of her own provocative romantic relationship. Justina Machado returns to Netflix after starring in its One Day at a Time update and stars as Natalie Cruz, a doctor who serves as chair of surgery and emergency medicine.
Robyn and Carlton Cuse (Lost, Jack Ryan, Netflix’s own Locke and Key) will serve as co-showrunners. Both will exec produce the series.

The Returned was cancelled after the first season due to declining viewership compared to Bates Motel. The French version, Les Revenants, secured two seasons with a focus on engaging narrative and themes. Cultural differences and storytelling challenges may have led to the American adaptation's cancellation.
The Returned, an A&e supernatural drama series starring horror movie star Mary Elizabeth Winstead, embarked on an ambitious journey to captivate the American audience with a narrative that stretches the boundaries of life and death, but many have asked, "Is The Returned cancelled?". The 2015 series was an adaptation of the critically acclaimed 2012 French show Les Revenants. The premise of both series is hauntingly intriguing: in a small, seemingly tranquil town, the dead begin to return. Not as zombies or spirits, but as living, breathing individuals who haven’t aged a day and have no memory of their passing.

Right from the start, there is no doubt where we are. Narrow, gray streets in the dim daylight of winter, peat hills between cramped villages, a crow sitting on a church spire: this is western Ireland in the ’80s, when the Celtic Tiger was yet to roar and jobs were scarce, divorce was illegal, condoms available only on prescription and central heating unknown.
It is also the Ireland of the Magdalene laundries, businesses run jointly by Church and the Irish state where unwed mothers were consigned to repent of their sins, do hard labor for a living and ultimately deliver their babies for adoption. Academic research estimates that 35,000 women were forced into this service. Around 1,600 women and 6,000 babies are believed to have died behind the convents’ walls. Nobody — apparently — asked why. The last of these institutions closed only in 1996.

TV director veteran S.J. Clarkson makes her theatrical feature film directorial debut with Madame Web. This Sony/Columbia Pictures adaptation of a Marvel Comics character is far from the first time Clarkson has worked in the realm of genre material. This filmmaker previously brought Marvel characters to live-action by directing episodes of Jessica Jones and The Defenders. She also helmed episodes of shows like Dig and Bates Motel (among many others). Clarkson's experience with heightened pieces of storytelling, though, almost included venturing into the rarified field of Star Trek movie directors.

The impact of Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho cannot be understated. The film changed horror (and movie theaters) forever and introduced the world to the infamous killer, Norman Bates (brought to life by Anthony Perkins). Perkins returned to the role 23 years later for Psycho II, followed shorting by Psycho III, and Psycho IV: The Beginning. Ironically, The Beginning was the end of the original franchise, but in 2013, A&e debuted Bates Motel, a modern-day prequel that follows a young Norman's (Freddie Highmore) descent into madness. The series was praised by Psycho fans for giving nuance to Norman's story and helped introduce the classic property to a slew of new viewers. However, Bates Motel was not always a successful title for television. In 1987, a Psycho-based television spin-off under the title aired on NBC. Premiering a year after the release of Psycho III, the film ignored the canon in hopes that it could spin off into a weekly series.

Madame Web's director, S.J. Clarkson, compares Dakota Johnson's character to Jessica Jones. Clarkson is experienced in the superhero genre, having worked on both Jessica Jones and The Defenders. For horror fans, not all streaming services are made the same, especially as streamers and studios continue to sequester their content away on their individual platforms. Now, some services are way better than others, and a few of the best might be a little surprising. Some are the major streamers, others are more niche and cater to horror fans specifically, and a few are even free.
But what makes a great streamer for horror fans? It's a combination of plentiful horror content and quality selection — and hopefully both. And while Disney+ obviously didn't make the list, most other steamers, fortunately, have a relatively good amount of horror content, both shows and movies.
Updated on January 27, 2024 by Robert Vaux: As always, streaming services undergo periodic shifts as movies disappear from one service and reappear on another. The list has been updated to reflect the fare available on each service as of the above date.

The TV show Mr. & Mrs. Smith will have loose connections to the 2005 film, according to co-creator Francesca Sloane, incorporating Easter eggs and references to certain characters and moments. Unlike other movie-to-tv reboots, the show will twist the source material by starting the characters on the same side and exploring new dynamics and gags. The creators aim to make the show a hit by leaning into funny, yet realistic, moments and themes like couples therapy and the secrets kept in a relationship.
Though expected to be a reboot of its predecessor, Mr. & Mrs. Smith co-creator Francesca Sloane teases how the show will connect to the Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie movie. The upcoming spy comedy revolves around two spies paired together for a mission, given the aliases of married couple John and Jane Smith, and have to find a way to work with one another as they slowly develop feelings.

It's not uncommon for a successful movie to turn into a television series. Movies like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Teen Wolf, and even 10 Things I Hate About You got their own TV adaptations, among countless others. MTV's Scream is one of many shows at the heart of the movie-to-tv pipeline.
The series ran from 2015 to 2019 on MTV, putting it in the same arena as popular horror shows like Fox's Scream Queens and A&e's Bates Motel. The show is clearly based on the beloved Wes Craven horror-comedy franchise Scream. Unfortunately,...

The psychological thriller is a subgenre that dissolves any sense of reality and instead of physical action, builds up the suspense through a character's misconstrued perspective and complex mental state. Movies such as Rear Window, Cape Fear, and The Silence of the Lambs popularized the subgenre paving the way for producing the best psychological thriller series including Bates Motel, True Detective, and David Fincher's Mindhunter.

"I am the person I am today because of the people that help me... and the people that hurt me." Vertical has revealed the official trailer for a film titled Lola, marking the feature directorial debut of actress Nicola Peltz Beckham (formerly known just Nicola Peltz - most will recognize her from her role in Transformers: Age of Extinction or on "Bates Motel"). Not to be confused with the other indie sci-fi film titled Lola from last year, this is an entirely different one. Peltz Beckham also stars as the titular Lola James. Lola works to save enough money to get her little brother, Arlo, out of their toxic home. Arlo keeps her hopeful, until one tragic night, when her whole world gets uprooted. From that moment on, nothing will ever be the same. The cast includes Virginia Madsen, Trevor Long, Luke David Blumm, Raven Goodwin, Sunil Narkar, Stephen Graybill,...

Medical drama The Good Doctor will end after the upcoming seventh series, it’s been revealed. Details here.
Freddie Highmore is one of a select few who was able to successfully go from fresh-faced child star, where he headlined Tim Burton’s Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, the underrated August Rush and The Spiderwick Chronicles, to a prolific acting career as an adult. The role that really put Highmore into the big leagues was playing Norman Bates, the younger version of Anthony Perkins’ character from Psycho, in five seasons of Bates Motel.
Immediately following the ending of the show, Highmore moved on to arguably his greatest performance as autistic surgical resident Shaun Murphy in The Good Doctor. Based on a Korean show, writer David Shore developed and adapted it into the English language version, on which he acts as showrunner alongside Liz Friedman.

In the world of horror, and cinema in general, there are few scenes more iconic than the shower sequence in Psycho. A dark horse when director Alfred Hitchcock was attempting to make the film, the scene is now considered one of the greatest in horror history. Many films since have either referenced or tried to replicate the chilling and shocking success of Marion Crane's (Janet Leigh) ill-fated shower, most of which have failed. However, a 2017 episode of the Psycho-based series, Bates Motel, not only succeeded in recreating the iconic moment but gave us one of the show's best horror sequences.

Although we’ll see fewer releases in 2024 following the lengthy industry strikes in 2023, there are still some big sci-fi movies coming out this year. A few of those films, like Dune: Part Two and Kraven the Hunter, were pushed back by their respective studios, but others are still adding some last flourishes behind the scenes in order to make their debut in time.
Per tradition, Den of Geek has put together a list of the big sci-fi movies heading your way in 2024. This list doesn’t include upcoming sci-fi movies without firm release dates, but it will when they are announced. It will also be updated to add any movies we may have missed, so feel free to shout those out in the comments!

Even outside of Star Wars, prequels tend to get a bad rap. From answering questions that didn’t need answering (and destroying the mysteries of the original in the process) to repeating established formulas ad nauseum, it’s deceptively easy for these blasts from the past to trip over their previously established lore. After all, it’s kind of hard to tell an engaging story when audiences already know what happens next.
Thankfully, the horror genre seems to be especially blessed with filmmakers that see prequels as an opportunity to tell original stories within an established world. I mean, some folks even thought that last year’s Pearl was even better than X, and the trailer for Arkasha Stevenson’s upcoming The First Omen looks like it kicks all kinds of ass – and that’s precisely why we’ve decided to come up with a list highlighting six underrated horror prequels for your viewing pleasure!

Twin Peaks influenced countless TV shows, such as Bates Motel, Fargo, and Riverdale, with its portrayal of small towns and hidden secrets. The surreal and supernatural elements of Twin Peaks can be seen in shows like The Oa and Dark, which also explore complex characters and interconnected experiences. Twin Peaks's influence extends to shows like The Leftovers, Veronica Mars, and Lost, which incorporate elements of mystery, dream-like sequences, and central narrative mysteries.
The mystery drama series Twin Peaks was one of the most influential television series of all time and countless classics of the modern TV landscape would not exist without this show created by David Lynch and Mark Frost. TV shows that nobody asked for can still turn out to be great, like Bates Motel and Watchmen. Andor proves that taking chances on Star Wars spin-offs can lead to success and expand the franchise. The Boys and Westworld are examples of unexpected superhero and sci-fi series that became highly acclaimed and popular.
Many television fans have long wish lists of shows they would love to see produced. There have previously been campaigns to convince writers, directors, or actors to come together and make a series that audiences have been clamoring for. It may be a show that brings back a well-loved character, adaptations of popular book series, or the expansion of a previously successful world into spin-offs, prequels, or sequels. But what about when the opposite is true, when TV shows that nobody asked for get greenlit, and then, against all odds, they turn out to be great.

TV adaptations of movies often diverge by expanding character depth, introducing new storylines, and exploring themes beyond the film's scope. Many of the best TV shows based on movies have diverged greatly from their source materials, reshaping dynamics and introducing new cast members. TV adaptations have the flexibility to address contemporary issues and offer a fresh and extended perspective on familiar stories, allowing for more complex world-building and exploration of themes.

Tom Holland (not the one who plays Spider-Man) was best known as an actor when he was hired to write the screenplay for a project that sounded like an insane idea: a 23-years-later sequel to the Alfred Hitchcock classic Psycho. But somehow, Holland and director Richard Franklin managed to deliver a Psycho II (watch it Here) that is a worthy follow-up to the original. Now, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the film, Holland has published – through Holland House Entertainment – a 176 page book called Oh Mother, What Have You Done?, which gives a behind-the-scenes look at the making of Psycho II.
Authored by Tom Holland and containing unpublished memoirs by late Psycho II director Richard Franklin and conversations with the film’s editor Andrew London, Oh Mother, What Have You Done? offers fans a unique
glimpse into the continuation of the beloved Psycho film franchise, which created nightmares for millions of
people showering worldwide.

Ladies and gentlemen, billionaire and corporate agitator Nelson Peltz is back — and he’s again backed by former Marvel executive Ike Perlmutter. This time, Perlmutter is letting his own (substantial) shares of Disney do the talking — via Peltz’s Trian Fund Management.
Trian now has sole voting power over 33 million Disney shares, most of which come from Perlmutter. He became one of Disney’s largest independent shareholders when he sold Marvel to Disney in 2009 (he got a bunch of cash and stock and a job — but no board seat). Perlmutter believes the shares should be worth more than they are.
These days, Disney trades for about $80 per share; it neared $200 in March 2021. To address this inequity, Peltz and Perlmutter want Disney to cut spending, reduce executives’ salaries, and get some Trian folks on the Disney board. The two are pushing for “multiple” Disney board seats, the Wall Street Journal reported; one would be for Peltz.

Hitchcock's films are still highly regarded and influential today due to his innovative storytelling techniques and ability to create suspense across multiple genres. The 1998 remake of Psycho, despite having a promising cast and director, was widely criticized for being a soulless cash grab that added nothing to Hitchcock's original masterpiece. Remaking or adapting any of Hitchcock's films is seen as inherently risky, as the potential for a successful update is often overshadowed by the reverence and elite status of the original works.
One particularly terrible remake of an Alfred Hitchcock horror classic is all the reason why the historic filmmaker's works shouldn't be touched. Although he released his final film as a living director in 1976, Hitchcock remains a titan of film history to this day, responsible for some of the most brilliant and innovative movies of the Hollywood Golden Age era and of all time. A couple weeks ago, we heard that Malek Akkad’s Trancas International Films was shopping the TV rights to the Halloween franchise around Hollywood, looking to get a TV series set up. Trancas is the sole owner of the franchise’s television rights, while Miramax co-owns the film rights with them – and at the time, Miramax was in a bidding war with A24 (which already has a Friday the 13th series called Crystal Lake in development) over the rights to make the show. Now Deadline reports that Miramax has come out the winner of that bidding war, with Miramax Television securing “a wide-ranging deal with Trancas to develop and co-produce a Halloween TV series, which also includes a first-look agreement on other television projects for the international marketplace.”
Deadline goes on to say that the Halloween TV series is “envisioned to potentially launch a cinematic universe spanning film and television.
