Last game of the "Tom Clancy's" video game brand, that came out, before writer Tom Clancy passed away in 2013.
Even though Michael Ironside will no longer reprise his role of protagonist Sam Fisher, Ironside still came to Splinter Cell: Blacklist's recording sessions in order to consult Eric Johnson on his performance.
As in the original game, Splinter Cell: Stealth Action Redefined (2002), Sam does not wear a mask until the final mission.
The blade Sam uses is an Indonesian Karambit, sometimes known as a 'Panther Claw.' This ties into the game's brand of aggressive stealth previously explored in Splinter Cell: Conviction (2010) in which the developers compared Sam to a panther. In this game 'Panther' is formally recognized as one of the play-styles the player may choose.
First Splinter Cell game where the protagonist Sam Fisher is not voiced by Michael Ironside. Instead fellow Canuck Eric Johnson has taken over.
