Christopher Lloyd's character's name, Martin Kahn, is a nod to the late, great Madeline Kahn from Clue (1985), and to whom this episode is dedicated.
Episode is based on Clue (1985) which was based on the board game Cluedo, also known as Clue in the US. The episode stars Lesley Ann Warren who played Miss Scarlett, Christopher Lloyd who played Professor Plum and Martin Mull who played Colonel Mustard. The title sequence also bears similarities to the cards used in the game, as well as the end credits of Clue, and numerous references in between them.
This is the 100th episode of the series.
Christopher Lloyd (Martin Kahn) exclaims "Great Scott!", which was Doc Brown's signature catchphrase in the Back to the Future (1985) films.
(At around 40 mins) Shawn tells everyone he's going to tell them who the real killer is. His speech affectation in this scene is a nod to Tim Curry, who was also in Clue (1985) which this episode parodies.
