Actress/comedian Roseanne Barr went on a rather epic drunken Twitter rant Saturday (Nov. 30), referencing her two recent experiences working in TV -- her 2011 reality show called "Roseanne's Nuts" and her recent reunion with "Roseanne" star John Goodman in "Downwardly Mobile," a sitcom that was picked up by NBC but then later shelved after only the pilot was filmed.
Roseanne writes:
I'm never going to work in television again. I'm never going to even attempt it. I feel as if I've been insulted/assaulted for over a year. actually, for many years-from my first reality show to my second and two failed development deals. Don't call me-i won't call you. I'm gone. Not One word remained of any ideas I had. I was constantly 'corrected' as if I had no track record whatsoever. I'm enraged over all of it.

Roseanne Barr is working on another TV comeback, this time with a big NBC deal.
According to Deadline, Roseanne and NBC are near a deal for a new sitcom that would receive a straight-to-series 10 episode order with the popular 10/90 model. The deal, which is similar to what FX gave Charlie Sheen for "Anger Management," allows the network to test out the sitcom with the first 10 episodes. Should they prove a hit, 90 more will be ordered through a syndication deal.
Roseanne's latest comeback attempt is a collaboration with "Nurse Jackie" co-creator Linda Wallem, The Hollywood Reporter also reported. Roseanne previously attempted a sitcom comeback co-starring opposite John Goodman in the "Downwardly Mobile" pilot for the 2012-2013 TV season.
FX recently ordered two sitcoms, one with George Lopez headlining and the other with Martin Lawrence and Kelsey Grammer, following the 10/90 model.
Sheen's sitcom on FX started off strong in the ratings.

NBC is looking to make a big investment in Roseanne Barr. The network is nearing a deal with the comedian for a starring sitcom vehicle that will go straight to series under the 10/90 model, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. A collaboration with Nurse Jackie co-creator and former co-showrunner Linda Wallem, the multicamera family comedy will mark Barr's second play for a sitcom return in the past two years. She starred in the failed NBC pilot Downwardly Mobile. Should the deal go through, it will be Universal TV and NBC's first attempt at the 10/90 template most successfully

Today's dispatches from the trenches of pilot season:

Like a blue-collar family that continues to pull itself up by its bootstraps and lucrative development deals, Roseanne Barr will get another chance at TV stardom thanks to the similarly downtrodden, catch-as-catch-can Joads over at NBC. Barr has continued her slow barreling into the NBC comedy lineup by signing a deal to create and star in another series there—this following last year’s NBC purchase of Downwardly Mobile, which would have reunited Barr with former TV husband John Goodman and the timely themes of laughing cathartically at poverty (specifically, someone else’s). As that didn’t pan out, Barr ...

Roseanne Barr is taking another swing at developing an NBC sitcom. According to THR, she and producing partner Steven Greener have signed a deal to have Barr create and star in a new comedy. Déjà vu: Barr developed an NBC sitcom last pilot season that would have reunited her with John Goodman. Alas, Downwardly Mobile didn't make it past the pilot stage, but perhaps everyone will fare better this time. For old time's sake, here is a clip from one of the best episodes of Roseanne. If you can hear the song "On the Road Again" without just subbing in "dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah road again" for the lyrics, it's only because you've never watched season four's "Kansas City, Here We Come."...

Roseanne Barr has signed a deal with NBC and Universal TV to develop a comedy series — a starring vehicle for the Roseanne alumna — which she will executive produce with Steven Greener. The two previously collaborated on Barr’s Lifetime reality series Roseanne’s Nuts. Additionally, Barr is doing a three-episode arc on the final season of the NBC/Uni TV comedy series The Office. She will play talent agent Carla Fern who agrees to help office manager Andy Bernard (Ed Helms) realize his show business dream. Filming of her episodes is set to begin this week. Last season, Paradigm-repped Barr developed a multi-camera comedy at 20th TV, Downwardly Mobile, which landed at NBC with penalty and went to pilot.

A big sitcom star will visit "The Office" before it closes up shop at the end of this season.
Roseanne Barr will guest on an upcoming episode, playing a talent agent named Carla Fern, the AP reports. She's scheduled to film her scenes Wednesday (Jan. 30).
And who would need a talent agent on "The Office"? One Andy Bernard (Ed Helms), who apparently rekindles his dreams of stardom after returning from his boat trip.
Barr's "Office" appearance will be her first appearance on a scripted comedy since she guested on "My Name Is Earl" in 2006. She starred in and co-created an NBC pilot called "Downwardly Mobile" last year, but it wasn't picked up.

Rejection sucks. Just ask the co-stars of failed NBC pilot Downwardly Mobile. The trailer park sitcom, which would have reunited Roseanne’s Roseanne Barr and John Goodman, wasn’t picked for NBC’s fall lineup, leaving the cast in a lurch. But, undeterred, the five secondary leads — Jason Antoon, Mary Birdsong, Greg Cromer, Tricia O’Kelley, and Romy Rosemont — have taken to YouTube to continue working together. The resulting web series, called Bitter, Party of 5, subscribes to the adage that “art imitates life.” The setup: five actors who learn that their NBC pilot (called…Downwardly Mobile) wasn’t picked up...

Broadcast’s dog-and-pony shows in New York City are finally over, but the walk-up to the fall 2012-2013 lineup has only just begun. Before we start wringing our hands over Britney Spears’ emotional readiness to be a reality show judge, we have some knee-jerk reactions to what we saw and heard this week:
Biggest trend: Comedy explosion. There’s 29 sitcoms hitting the air this fall — and we’re not including Rock Center With Brian Williams. That’s an enormous number of couches, awkward dates and workplace misunderstandings. Tuesdays will be a three-network comedy traffic jam, while ABC and NBC will offload extra chuckles into Fridays.

Updated: After picking up five single-camera new comedy series, NBC today ordered its first multi-camera show for next season, the Jimmy Fallon-produced Guys With Kids. For now, it’s the only multi-camera NBC comedy series — new or returning — confirmed for next season, which raises the question of what it will be paired with. Multi-camera sitcoms traditionally fare better in a block as evident by CBS’ success with the format. Besides Guys With Kids, the only NBC multi-camera comedy pilot still alive is Daddy’s Girls, which has not heard about its fate yet, with Ladyfriends fading fast and the rest, including Roseanne Barr’s Downwardly Mobile, over. The possible scenarios I’m hearing are: 1. NBC picks up Daddy’s Girls. 2. It pairs Guys with a single-camera comedy. And 3. The network brings back Whitney for a second season. The last scenario had been looking very unlikely lately but I hear...

Speaking of music, Gavin Creel released Get Out yesterday, and I found it surprising, in a good way. I was expecting big anthemic ballads, but he had some harder stuff on there and some dance remixes. Really enjoying it.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt really has no idea how the time machine works in Looper. But he says he modeled his performance on Bruce Willis, who plays the older version of his character. Was that so Willis didn't have to act at all?
Tom Hanks released a statement calling a years-old video that surfaced of him on stage with someone in blackface "hideously offensive then and is hideously offensive now.

Exclusive: Romy Rosemont and Mary Birdsong have been cast in Roseanne Barr’s NBC comedy pilot Downwardly Mobile. Co-created by Barr, her boyfriend John Argent and showrunner Eric Gilliland, the multicamera Downwardly Mobile stars Barr as Rose, the proprietor of a mobile home park and surrogate mother to the unique people who live there in a challenging economy. Birdsong, repped by UTA and manager Stacy Abrams, will play Kathie Lee, quintessential “trailer trash” who runs the pizza/beer joint in the park. Two new cable pilots have casting directors, Back Stage has confirmed."Rewind," a drama/sci-fi pilot for SyFy, will be cast by Risa Bramon Garcia and Toby Guidry. The pilot, produced by Universal Cable Productions and BermanBraun, centers on a team of military operatives and scientists who, in the aftermath of a devastating nuclear attack, travel back to the past in hopes of altering the present. Shooting is scheduled to get under way in Toronto in late April. As is the case with many potential SyFy series, "Rewind" will be shot as a two-hour backdoor pilot so the network has the option of airing it as a standalone movie in the event that it doesn't get a series order. This is Bramon Garcia's second pilot this season, as she is also casting NBC comedy pilot "Downwardly Mobile," which reteams Roseanne Barr and John Goodman in the leads. She also did the Los Angeles.

Sometimes they are relative unknowns that the network believes can carry a show. Sometimes they are drawn from the small subset of stand-up comedians who have made enough money doing comedy to get their teeth fixed. Sometimes they are named Jim...
