Displays a slew of thematic lessons for the kiddos, and makes a holiday movie fun to watch, by moving beyond the "classic" themes of a Christmas movie.

'Twas the day before Christmas and all through the yard the Cat in the Hat (Martin Short) and his guests partied hard. When the party was over, and the guests all departed one poor baby reindeer was left broken-hearted!

My first instinct is to give this a 3 or 4 because it just really is not all that entertaining, the songs are alright but forgettable, and Martin Short is a fairly annoying voice to play the Cat. This will not become a regular Christmas special in my home, and probably not anywhere else.

So why the higher rating of 5? Simply because I recently saw "The Legend of Frosty the Snowman" with Burt Reynolds, and that was far worse. In fact, it may be the worst Christmas special ever made. So, in comparison, this one comes off looking not half bad. Nothing great, but not the tragic mess that "Frosty" is.
  • Doesn't teach your kids anything and it's so weird. I can't stand Dr Seuss at the best of times but this was incredibly poorly made and idiotic.

My little one watched it once but thankfully lost interest halfway through.

The storyline also makes no sense, the Cat hosts a party then some annoying baby reindeer causes everyone to do a massive detour because he's a complete idiot. That's basically it.

Add to this bad songs and annoying rhyming couplets and that's your standard Dr Seuss film. I'd much rather watch the Michael Myers version as at least that had some jokes in it!

Looking for a Xmas movie? This ain't it.
