  • Pilot episode review: I have been a fan of Jim Jefferies for many years. His stand-up comedy is mix of crudeness, vulgarity and pure brilliance. If that doesn't sound like your cup of tea, then there is no point even bothering to check out this series. "Legit" is a show similar to Louis C.K's "Louie", but it's not quite the same since Louie episodes are made up with different sketches. Jim Jefferies plays himself and the story of the pilot is taken from one of his older stand-up routines where he helps his friend's disabled and dying brother get laid at a whorehouse. The dialogue and situations that occur are both funny and well acted, and it is quite moving in it's own strange way. If the rest of the episodes keep up the same quality I think it will be a hit series for us who enjoy dark comedy.
  • Just stumbled on this show and I'm so glad I did! I'm not familiar with Jim Jeffries' comedy... Maybe that is a good thing, but this show is hilarious! If you want to see "masterful acting" go see Les Miserables or some crap like that. Wanna see funny? Watch this! No, it's not for the kiddies, but I just watched it on a Thursday night at about 10 PM. Responsible parents already have their kiddies tucked in bed by then, so if little Jane or Johnny is still up, don't blame TV programming for any problems. It might be obnoxious humor to some and if strong language offends you then perhaps it's best that you skip this show. As for me, I will check the schedule and eagerly await the next episode.
  • I just finished watching this and could easily watch it again. This was so much more than I was expecting from another comedians "new show". Instead of it looking like some guy who writes gags and has drunk people come and see him for a laugh,Jim looked very comfortable as an actor and didn't over act or ham it up once. Jim's delivery along with his facial expressions are perfect and actually remind of a couple of mates of mine. DJ was spot on too and played his character with realistic humour. I hope I'm still raving about this in a few years when it's still on. Sooo much room for characters and scenarios I definitely hope people "get" this show and it lives a happy life. Can't wait to see Jim in Sydney this May!
  • I don't understand the hate this show has been getting from some viewers. Legit has some of the funniest, rawest, most original lines I've seen on a TV show, and also has tremendous heart. By the end of the third episode, I was switching between hysterical laughter and tearing up. No, it's not PC, it's raunchy, and its not something you want young kids to see, but the caring in Jim's efforts to make life better for his disabled friend, and the situational humor that goes along with it, make this show one of the best on TV. Or, you could go back to watching your regular broadcast sitcom with a canned laughtrack, in which nothing resembling real life ever occurs...
  • The first episode was great however the show vastly improves as it goes on. I'm reviewing this after episode 4 which was one of the funniest 20 minutes i've had in a long time! The story is building and the cast is settling in.

    Give it a chance people!

Sure Jim Jefferies style will be new to many people - and that's what makes this show so refreshing. Jim tells it just like he really see's it and takes this type of comedy way past what Curb your Enthusiasm and Ricky Gervais have done.

BTW - I'm always on IMDb but have never bothered to review any of the fantastic films and TV shows I've watched of the years. Legit has made me step up - it's that good!

Stick with it guys - at least get to episode 2

  • This show is genuinely hilarious. Like many of these mockumentary style shows or sitcoms they often start off a little slowly. (Not that this show could be described as a mockumentary as such)However, this review comes after episode 3 (Love) which is the best episode so far and I'm already falling in love with all the main characters.

It has been said often of Legit that it has heart, it certainly does, it has oodles of soul perfectly balanced with gut busting laughter.

Reminiscent of Curb your Enthusiasm Legit is cringe-worthy more often than not but you wont be able to look away. A bit like Parks & Rec it started slowly but didn't take long for me to feel great empathy for the main cast, you really want these guys to succeed.

Its a little to early to dissect the characters, suffice it to say, Jim Jefferies' TV packaged portrayal of himself is a little out of step with the Jim Jefferies you'll experience on stage. Albeit the Jim in the TV show seems like a bit of a narcissist and/or sociopath to some extent, slowly going legit and becoming more empathic, which I suppose is the point of the somewhat vague premise. Nevertheless, it still works and it's fair to say the guy can act, He's no DJ Qualls in the acting department but I would give him a robust 7/10 notwithstanding.

Jim manages to deliver his brand of shock value comedy, vulgarity and twisted tales without the unrelenting barrage of epithets and I think its a credit to him.

It goes without saying that Legit will not be for everyone, Jim Jefferies is not considered one of the top dirty stand up comics for no reason.

I'm not sure where this show is headed nor could I say it has much longevity but I'm going to enjoy the ride while it lasts. Why don't you join me.
  • Jim Jefferies is hilarious, he's crude and a @#$hole but you have to love him, and he reminds us a bit of ourselves at the same time. Also he's just funny, unlike certain actors in comedy's. i was waiting for another stand up DVD but found this. A lot of his jokes from his stand ups are little scenarios so his comedy adapts well to TV. He's more in your face than Louie C.K. like an Australian Kenny Powers. I can't wait to see a certain number of jokes played out in his show as well. I can see fans of Eastbound and down, Wilfred, Workaholics and south park enjoying this. Also fans of Curb and Louie will like it. The first show you can tell it was a bit off mark but I can definitely see it getting more polished. Please make heaps of season's FX!
  • This show is brilliant! I didn't think I'd like it. But, I'm glad I was wrong! Glad there's representation of the differently-abled community. They're just as funny and human, as the rest of us.

DJ Qualls is brilliant as the quadriplegic best friend, and even made me cry.

I wish I could write a lot more, but would contain spoilers. Please, check it out, both seasons(?) is on Hulu, currently.
  • If you've never saw or heard any of Jim Jefferies' stand up comedy, you are really in for a treat. If your a fan of Jim's already, you may know some of the stories but it is more than worth it to watch the stories come to life. The first season is scattered with stories that the avid JJ fan will know well, but Jim's writing transfers to the small screen so well, you'll find yourself laughing as if its all new material. The second season really found its identity and seems to have gotten cancelled right when it was finding its audience. (Due in part to the show's move to the hard to find *In Canada* FXX channel). I truly believe if this show had a little more time a la "It's Always Sunny" the show very well would have developed a cult following of its own. Make sure to watch it on Netflix and rate it as you see fit, and if you like it, please join the other fans in tweeting out to Jim and FX #Bring Back Legit
  • The show reminds me a lot of Wilfred in that an Australian representing unfettered id teaches an uptight American (or two) to loosen up.

You would think that Legit would pale in comparison considering no one dresses up like a dog, but I found something refreshingly unconventional in this breezy ride about a guy who doesn't take his life too seriously. Comedian Jim Jefferies doesn't have the most unique voice in the world but, considering the series does a good job at being congruent with that voice, it's a strong one making it appear stronger.

Jefferies basically plays himself: a comedian from Australia who gets his entire income from doing less than five hours of stand-up comedy a week. He moves in with his long-time friend Steve, a middle-aged divorcée legal encyclopedia salesman (who he upstages on career day). In the second episode Steve's paraplegic younger brother Billy (DJ Qualls) moves in. The show earns points for its low-key yet sensitive treatment of a handicapped character.

The show revolves around the trio's relatively mundane adventures as they try to negotiate how to be good roommates and teach each other a little about life. The show's adventures are mundane and the show is pretty unapologetic about this. Jim isn't on a mission to better his life, succeed at a career or find true love. More often than not Jim's blasé attitude rubs off on his roommates more than the other way around.

Its not a ground-breaking show and won't ever reach the pantheon of great TV but its consistent and has a firm idea of its direction. The chemistry of the main trio is strong enough that the characters developed to the point that the season finale was genuinely emotional.
  • I think it's possibly the best comedy of the decade. It's a modern Seinfeld with similar offbeat characters but with much more boldness, reality, and no canned laughter. Yes, it's cringe-worthy at times yet more often than not you will find yourself loving some of these characters. I live in Australia and can honestly say I'd never heard of Jim before legit. It was great to see the wonderful Magda Szubanski as Jim's Mum (that's how we say it down here)in Series 2. I am now a true fan and I'd like to thank all involved for tackling the REAL issues of modern life head on, leaving me in stitches at times. Jim at the baseball in Series one comes to mind. If you have an open mind, this is the modern comedy for you and is streets ahead of anything I've seen in recent years. Be warned though, it will not appeal to everyone!

I made a point of watching Jim Jefferies stand-up before watching the first episode of 'legit' and you can see how he has weaved his vulgar/offensive jokes into the show. Unfortunately, this will turn a LOT of viewers off it. Make sure the kids don't sneak into the room while your watching because you might have lots to explain to them. But as an adult comedy show it is refreshingly funny. Jim's character is unbelievably offensive, but not in a nasty way. He will say and do whatever fun ideas pop into his head, however his brain isn't wired for conversations with Mr and Mrs average American. DJ Quols does a brilliant job as a quadriplegic confined to a wheelchair who just wants to 'live'... I must admit I'm not a fan of his stand-up because it relies on shocking the audience rather than intelligent wit.

If you are looking for a TV series about a washed up, crass, unfunny comedian who thinks he's super funny playing the role of a washed up, crass, unfunny comedian who thinks he's super funny, then this is the show for you!!

I waded through both seasons and think I chuckled about 4 times. In fairness, one of those times was actually for something Jim did, but the rest were for DJ Qualls. I was a bit surprised to see an appearance by Eddie Ifft, then realised that it was prior to the well known falling about between Jim and Eddie.

I did like DJ Qualls in this and I think that's why I persevered with it. It's also the reason for a higher score than I wanted to give.

I think the show could have been better if perhaps there was a better comedian playing the title role. I did like Jim as a comedian a long time ago, but since then he's lost the plot.

Australia has a lot to be embarrassed about: The Stolen Generation, the 1981 underarm bowling incident, Lidia Thorpe, the recent Voice Referendum, quite a few of our Prime Ministers including the current one (Albo).......and.....Jim Jefferies.

I trust that those wanting to visit Australia don't use Jim as the benchmark for what typical Aussies are like - we aren't! :)
  • If your a Jim Jefferies fan, then this series is right up your alley. The only major issue with the show is that he's been forced to tone down his language for commercial TV, but I solved this problem by imagining he's using the 'c' word whenever he swears. If your not a fan then I suggest you just stick to watching re-runs of '7th Heaven'. DJ Qualls is a standout character, he plays his part brilliantly. However, Dan Bakkedahl seems like he doesn't belong in any of his scenes, it's a bit hard to explain, maybe he's just trying too hard? I better not forget to mention 'Rodney' played by Nick Daley, he looks like he's having the time of his life in the scenes he's in. The other actors could take a leaf out of his book. One drawback of the show is that you'll break out in spontaneous giggles whenever you remember parts of the show, which isn't a good look on a crowded bus.
  • We just binged the entire 2 seasons in one day and are leftvwanting more. I never heard of it, because it's on Comedy Central. Netflix should pick it up and do a reboot.

It's inappropriately funny, but with heart and good messages thrown into the chaos.

I love this show. It is witty and irreverent. I can't recommend this show to many people, because a lot of people will be offended, but if you actually look deeper, it's sweet and funny and rings true in so many of his rants, (which I love that there is always another foreigner in the background nodding and agreeing completely) Many people don't like Steve, but I think he's perfect. He's the character that is kind of forgotten, and overlooked and he's perfect in that role. At first glance you think they are making fun of handicapped people, but they are some of the truest and real characters, they are people, they have feelings and needs and want to be treated like everyone else, so I love the way they are portrayed. I mean Rodney is absolutely amazing at everything he touches.

It's not Politically Correct, which is the best part, because he rings true. People are overly sensitive in today's world, and I love a show that is so not.

Okay, so I was a little skeptical on this show seeing as Anger Management was really bad and how disappointing is was to see Unsupervised go, but after seeing how good The Americans is and the return of Archer I decided to give this show a chance. It was excellent. I mean while not the best show on FX, it is a very well structured one. One person helps another man look after his brother, who has muscular dystrophy, which sucks to have in the first place. I think DJ Quall does an excellent job as Billy and Jim Jefferies does a good job as Jim. Dan Bakkedahl isn't really funny, but he wasn't meant to be funny, he was meant to be the serious guy who looks after his sick brother. Then there are a hilarious amount of bit characters in there too. 9/10
  • Jim Jeffries is awesome, and is making this show a true hit. The first episode is already funny, but I was a little hesitant about how they were planning out how to work with the other two characters, but that works brilliantly. Very funny, very nice to watch, it is something new, not more of the same. I hope this will catch on quickly, because I do not want to see this series fail. I do not know why you need ten lines, but OK. I will accept that this is necessary. If you want to know what my taste in shows is, then look below. It will be a summation of the shows I like. Just to know where to put my opinion.

  • 'Legit' is a show that literally has something to offend everyone. No sacred cow is left unslaughtered: the disabled, women, obesity, sex, love, honor, trust... you name it. There's no pulling back, no flinching. If you can't handle that - or don't want to - fair enough. There are hordes of toothless sitcoms carefully designed to lull you back into a somnolent feeling of security.

But if you're willing to go outside your comfort zone - WAY outside - 'Legit' is as funny as it gets. Like Jim Jeffries' standup comedy, the series tackles subjects too unthinkable for the most sensitive video drama... and makes them the butt of merciless full-on ridicule. The result is screamingly, painfully, disgustingly hilarious. The only show I can think of to rival it is the Scottish masterpiece 'Still Game,' which takes aging, poverty, death, hopelessness and petty malice as the basis of its own crude and very true-to-life humor.

Check the reviews on this site. You'll see a bunch of 10/10 ratings, and a few 0/10. That's exactly what the creators were shooting for. 'Legit' would be a failure if NO ONE was revolted and enraged. Jeffries' contends (seriously or not) that absolutely ANYTHING is a 'legitimate' subject for humor. He forces us to justify our objections... And makes us realize that it's NOT a trivial exercise.

With 'Legit,' Jeffries scrapes the civilized veneer off some very painful truths. You can accept them and laugh, or deny them and be offended... but he makes it very hard to escape them unscathed.
  • ...and this show hits a fairly consistent stride of humor. It begins to rely less on Jim's established jokes from his stand-up. The episodes aren't constantly hilarious, but certain scenes in every episode get me howling with laughter. Jim is an easy guy to watch, and DJ Qualls is great as Jim's quadriplegic friend, who provides a lot of the heart of Legit.

Do not listen to Mick S's review. Anyone who believes that Jim Jefferies' stand-up relies solely on shock value and is completely void of intelligent wit is truly an idiot. And I suppose Louis CK only tells gay jokes, right?

Also, do not listen to Jbond's. Letting one joke in one episode ruin a whole show for you is childish and bull-headed.

Jfpoitras is king of the idiots, however. Two episodes in and you write the show off. Then you rush down to IMDb to tell everyone about your quarter-baked opinion? Good God, not every show has to hook you from the pilot, you monkey. Scrubs was atrocious during the beginning of season one. Then it hit a stride and finally became funny. If you only watched the pilot, you'd think it's the dumbest show ever made.

I have hope for this show. I wish it was on regular FX, but I'm grateful to see it on Netflix. Hopefully season 2 does even better and features even more great guest stars. I couldn't be happier that Jim Jefferies has a show. I feel as proud as Gunther.

I just watched my last episode of Legit. This series started out funny but has sunk to become unbearable. At what point does running over someone's beloved house cat multiple times and then tossed in the dumpster in front of a child become funny? The writers on this show have some serious issues and should seek professional help. This writing is by someone who has obviously has never known the joy and love a pet can bring to a home. This episode perpetuates a sick belief that somehow violence against an animal can be comical. The writing has a stink very similar to the smell of the writing on Wilfred, which I also liked at first but was forced to stop watching for the same reason. To say nothing against the offensive writing on this show would be morally and ethically wrong on my part. This show should be avoided at all costs. Too bad for the non cat hating crew and the fine actors on this cast. I wonder what any of them thought about this script, I can think of an honored place next to my toilet.
  • Warning: Spoilers
Note: Although I don't think I divulged any show/episode "spoilers" I have marked it as such just to cover my butt. Legit on FX has not disappointed in the least. Jim Jefferies, DJ Qualls and Dan Bakkedahl are the ultimate trio for this "perfect storm" of comedy. After watching the premier episode, which was funny and sweet at the same time, I was completely hooked and now look forward to Thursday nights. The show is as advertised and doesn't try to over do it with the jokes and the pranks. If you haven't seen it yet, see it yesterday! If you're able to, see it from the 1st episode. You won't be disappointed, I know I wasn't. I wasn't even familiar with Jim Jefferies brand of comedy but I'm now a fan!! Keep an eye out for the very funny "50's Dad" and that's all I'll say about that. Legit on FX is another hit in my eyes and should be around for a while...I hope.
  • This show is excellent. I watched all episodes in 1 sitting and they are so funny. Jim uses some of his funny stories in his stand-up and he acts them out.

Great show overall and can't wait for season 2.

Why did I rate it 10/10?

My simple answer would be, I think this show is the best so far, better than the office in my opinion. And that show I would have rated 10/10. It made laugh all the time too.

Which one was my favourite episode?

Season 1 - Episode 6. I'm sure this show has many seasons to go because it is hilarious. I didn't put any details so that there is no spoiler alerts, although I put some pressure on the episode expectations :)
  • Great show. Great characters. Heart and funny. Jim playing himself. Always loved Jim 's comedy
  • This show was funny and unusual. I wish that there were more seasons.
