Shout out to the UK subscriber who watched Bee Movie 357 times this year. Your dedication has been duly noted by Netflix...
Bee Movie, the 2007 animated meme generator, has a very committed UK fan. Someone so enamoured by the adventures of Barry B. Benson, that in 2017 they were willing to spend 32,487 minutes of their time rewatching the film on Netflix.
Netflix, for their part, did not want this devotion to go unsung, so this week they specifically acknowledged the bee-witched viewer and created a little buzz (I'm sorry) surrounding the, er, achievement, by including the factoid in their 2017 'Year In Review'.
The Jerry Seinfeld-starring flick could have been consumed once a day, or for almost 24 days continuously. No one knows, as the streaming giant are naturally keeping the person's identity anonymous, and further details under wraps.
Oh, and Netflix also released a bunch of Top 10 lists, but...

Summer 1993 — Catalonia, Spain
So cathartic was Summer 1993 that my personal psyche will be marked by it forever. Why this story, about a six year old girl who quietly and slowly comes to terms with the death of her mother and how the process, invisible to anyone watching, culminates in a sudden crescendo of emotion moved me to tears, is what you must find out on your own.
No one knows the emotions of another person unless communication, self-knowledge and compassion work in favor of knowing. Yes tears and laughter mean a lot but without tears and laughter, there are thousands of feelings not communicated which result in actions whose meaning is unknown. And for children who have no words for their feelings or why they act as they do, adults can only surmise and intuit if they are able.
A child of six has no way of knowing death; children are fearless,...

Nearly 70 percent of L.A. Weekly’s editorial staff — including film critic April Wolfe — was laid off on November 29, the day the beloved alternative newspaper was officially purchased by Semanal Media. The Los Angeles Times reported nine members from the 13-person editorial team were dismissed, among them all top editors (even editor-in-chief Mara Shalhoup); publisher Matt Cooperstein was also terminated. On Twitter, Shalhoup likened the layoff to a “Game of Thrones” bloodbath.
We were expecting there to be some pain with the sale of @LAWeekly. But we weren’t expecting the Red Wedding. That’s how deep the cuts are. 1/

The impending sale was confirmed on October 18 by the La Times, which dubbed the now-owner “a mysterious new company” in its headline. Semanal Media was formed explicitly to buy L.A. Weekly from dwindling Voice Media, the publishing entity that has unloaded S.F. Weekly, O.

It's always hard to read other people's opinions of your work. No one knows that better than actors although you may not actually fully understand just how much until you hear Jennifer Lawrence and Adam Sandler talk about reviews of their films.
For Lawrence, her most recent film was particularly interesting because she says she wasn't able to let her film go (Mother!) after it was released due to her relationship with director Darren Aronofsky, so it was a little torturous for her this time around than in past films.
Sandler, whose been making movies way longer with far less stellar reviews, said he stopped reading his reviews after Billy Madison. That's kind of a shame because he's made some very solid films in that time, but he's also made some really critically panned films so I can't say that I blame him. Check out the two discuss the process...

William John Paul “Liam” Gallagher. Even his name sounds like a supergroup—some kind of Frankenstein’s amalgam that fuses a continuum of British rock, glass-shattering volume, and a semi-lethal Twitter account. Lord knows he’s packed an entire band’s worth of swagger into one man. Onstage at New York City’s McKittrick Hotel last July for his first American performance as a solo artist, he assumes his trademark position, arms clasped behind his parka-covered torso, crouched in a perpetual stare-down with an audience. He’s flanked by a banner that spells out not his name, but might as well be: “Rock ‘N’ Roll.

No one knows better than Ben Affleck that the reaction to last year’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice” wasn’t great. We don’t need to rehash the countless ways in which Zack Snyder‘s superhero showdown missed the mark, but the actor himself became the poster boy for WB and DC’s failings with the Sad Affleck meme, which over a year later, is still hilarious.
From the film’s overly grim tone, to the ridiculous plotting that included jars of urine, and Moms named Martha, ‘Dawn Of Justice’ took it on the chin and then some.

No one knows how to offend people like Piers Morgan, and he was at it again in the wake of Sunday night's shooting in Las Vegas, which killed dozens and injured hundreds. Not all horror films need some supernatural or paranormal element to them. In fact, some of the genre’s best efforts have been the most simple ones, with a grounded threat that feels real and believable. For many, that’s the scariest thing and it’s what made some of the classics from the 70s and 80s into the iconic films that they are today. Sometimes, all you really need is a psycho with a blade just killing people for no apparent reason.

Larry Birkhead is sharing some of Anna Nicole Smith's most intimate secrets.

Hurricane Irma hit the Florida Keys on Sunday as a category 4 storm – but only now is the destruction becoming clear.
Although frustrated Floridians are anxious to return home, officials are still enforcing an access ban in the Lower Keys as they evaluate the infrastructure, the roadways, health hazards and other safety measures. A dawn-to-dusk curfew remains in place.
“The wind may have stopped blowing, but for most of the Florida Keys, there is no fuel, electricity, running water, or cell service. For many people, supplies are running low and anxiety is running high,” a statement from Monroe County officials said.

Samuel L. Jackson is not a man to be messed with.
The legendary actor stopped by the Late Late Show to battle host James Corden in one of his famous “Drop the Mic” rap battles, where he schooled the British host on comebacks and jibes.
Corden started strong, rapping that he was there to prove the “‘L’ in Samuel L. Jackson stands for loser” and mocking Jackson’s Nick Fury character in the Avengers series, telling him “the only time you get applause is when you show up after credits.”
While it was a solid start, Jackson came out guns blazing on his first verse.

Introduced as a film preservationist’s recent discovery and told with the utmost accuracy to its specified time period, “Comrade Detective” is, by all discernible indication, a Romanian television series from the ’80s that’s been restored and dubbed for American audiences. Executive producer Channing Tatum and host John Ronson say so in welcoming viewers to the series:
“Similar to American propaganda films like ‘Red Dawn’ and ‘Rocky IV,’ that demonized the Eastern block, ‘Comrade Detective’ was produced and funded by the Romanian government not merely to entertain, but to celebrate and promote communist ideals,” Ronson says.
“After a two-decade journey spanning four continents, hundreds of dead-end leads, and the cooperation of five international governments, we have finally tracked down and restored the international master copies — and dubbed them.”

Nominations will be announced Thursday morning from the Television Academy’s Saban Media Center in North Hollywood. Anna Chlumsky and Shemar Moore will read the chosen nominees, but until that moment arrives — when dreams are dashed and the cold light of day sets in — the dark horse contenders can still believe.

And we can still believe in them. This year’s Emmy race has been incredibly competitive. With Netflix and Amazon measuring appendages and a packed Fyc calendar from April 1 through early June, there are clearly more deserving vote getters than there will be nominees.

Wake up, Mr. West. It's your birthday!
On "No More Parties in L.A." off The Life of Pablo, Kanye West describes himself as "a 38-year-old 8-year-old," which is maybe a perfect summation of the qualities that have made the 40-year-old rapper such an enigma: a larger-than-life icon who has cultivated a persona that draws as much infamy as it does reverence, with a head-spinning number of acclaimed tracks to show for it.

When Mary Kay Letourneau was accused of having an illicit relationship with student Vili Fualaau, the story became an international scandal. Letourneau was sentenced to more than seven years in prison on charges of child rape in connection with their affair, which began when Fualaau was just 12 years old.

Not all horror films need some supernatural or paranormal element to them. In fact, some of the genre’s best efforts have been the most simple ones, with a grounded threat that feels real and believable. No one knows that better than John Carpenter, who struck gold with Halloween, one of the greatest horror movies of all-time. It needs no introduction at this point and as you’ve surely heard, Danny McBride and David Gordon Green will be rebooting the property with plans to release their film in 2018.
Thankfully, they’ll be doing away with all the nonsense that’s transformed Halloween into a bit of a joke in recent years. Apparently, the plan is to simply go back to basics and strip away everything that’s made the franchise so bloated – namely, the supernatural elements.
