There is a reference to Michael Caine's previous heist movie "The Italian Job" (1969). When planning the getaway vehicle, one of the cars considered is a Mini Cooper, a trio of which famously escaped the clutches of the Italian police in that movie.

The last scene in the diner, when the waitress is left the hefty tip - at the start of the scene, as the camera pans along the tables, there is a female customer sitting in the window seat two tables down from the main characters. The following shot from the opposite angle shows the female client has disappeared.
